thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

DONT USE!
September 10, 2023

This company is a rip off! They get your nice things and give you a FRACTION of the money they make. It is severely unbalanced! You will better off selling your items on another platform. Contacting them is out.
Beware before use this company.

My first three orders were so so. Some items were better than they appeared and others like the pants appeared to be dress pants; however, when they arrived they looked more like joggers. I'm very disappointed in my last order because I chose to bundle two orders totalling over 150 dollars and FedEx lost the package last week. They told me to contact thredup for a refund and thredup chat keeps showing not available after waiting for a representative for almost an hour. Not terribly impressed at the moment.

I suggest not using this site for selling. Poshmark is much better. The time out on fall clothing before fall starts, to cash out your money there is a fee from their partner (Stripe), other fees are very high.

Don't sell to them!
September 5, 2023

Horrible!
I use to sell to thredUP years ago, around 10, and enjoyed it. They didn't pay great but it wasn't bad. I stopped probably 4-5 years ago and couldn't remember why. Well now I remember!

They take MONTHS to go through your things unless you pay extra for rush. They charge you $18 for you to send in your things, which wouldn't be bad if they also didn't keep 80%+ typically for how much YOUR clothing sells for. Right now I've got $150ish dollars worth of clothing sold and my payout is around $8.

Never again.

Slow in processing
September 4, 2023

As of the writing of this review they are taking two months (or more) to process items received for sale. I was told that as of right now they are processing items that they received in the beginning of June. We are now int September. They ask for seasonal clothing, but my items won't likely be processed for another month so maybe send your summer items in around February, and fall items in June.

Do Not Use they don't pay
September 4, 2023

They sent me an email after the items I sent in were received saying they couldn't use the items sent. All new and name brand. Then I see they are selling the dress I sent in size 18 plus Onyx Nite. They didn't accept this according to the email but can not mail back. But here it is. Rip off.

Not worth it
September 4, 2023

I sent a bag of some clothes that I barely used or were new, all laundered. Some items were maybe 2 years old, so not very in season but good brand names. If you want the item back you have to pay $5.99 to retrieve the item. Not doing this again, I rather gift it to Goodwill.

You pay service fee of $15.00 yet 85%of clothes you send disappear and never go up for sell. The 4-6 that do go up for sale? You make a $1 on a dress sold $25, so it is a greedy money loser! In the beginning you made $20 to $35 per bag. NOW NO REASON TO SEND.Go to a consignment shop.

ThredUP used to be a great deal. Now they charge you $3.99 for each item you return, on top of the shipping fee! They also just instituted a new $5.99 per item to receive your old clothing back that didn't sell in the allotted time. These new fees are totally discouraging people to shop, and DEFINITELY to sell, on ThredUP.
A really poor overall business decision. I'm taking my clothing to local used clothing shops from now on.

NO STARS. THIEVES.
September 1, 2023

I promise you will do better selling garments at any other establishment or via any other Avenue. They WILL sell your clothing and keep all of the proceeds. They MAY send your garments back to you if they deem them unfit. They WILL charge you to "claim" your items that don't sell, and you will not make more than $1-5 per garment after they've taken their 99% cut.

I regret ever sending them a thing, (and I sent bags of 1000s of dollars worth of clothing that I've still yet to see any payout from) Legitimately only send them what you 1. Do not wish to make profit from and 2. Do not want. That is the only way to make this worthwhile in any capacity and if that be your criteria, I would absolutely go to the church donation box down the street instead.

Attached you'll see a $200 free people jumpsuit, a Kut Jacket (retails around $100) along with 7 other things sold, with a $5.32 profit. Thieves. *******% regret. And the only way now to get my things back is to pay them more money for them to send them back (even though I already opted to pay more for returning my items back in the ordering of the delivery bags. LOL. But not actually funny.)

Sure, send me a 'clean out' bag, fill it, ship it to them for free...sounds nice, they will photo and list for you, sounds awesome! Now, for selling your item, they take $14.99, now the average percentage YOU get of a selling price is 3%-5%, SERIOUSLY, I was not paid out more than $9 for each of my items, SUNDANCE, SPANX, LAURA ASHLEY, LANE BRYANT, JJILL & Micheal Kors...all in excellent or like new condition, yet my payout is a whoopping $35.54, for 28 name brand like new pcs. Now, trying to cash out to PayPal costs.25, and all of the sudden there's a glitch, so I guess I will wait, yet another day and try again...LESSON LEARNED

SCAM
September 1, 2023

Total scam. They take AT LEAST 80% of the profit. Then they charge fees on top that eat what little money you may get. They price them WAY too high, about retail, and you still get pennies. They only list your items for a couple of weeks, then take them down. After that, they give you a week to BUY back your items for $6 EACH. After that, they become property of threadup. They re-list them for cheaper and take 100%. Don't do it, it's easier and cheaper to just donate your clothes. Complete scam.

Fees more than earnings
September 1, 2023

You won't earn any money as fees are more than $30 per box you send them. This has give up significantly in the past year. You're better off donating the items and writing the value off your taxes rather than supporting this company and getting nothing in return.

Total ripoff
August 26, 2023

They haven't acknowledged getting two of their bags full of quality clothing and say fedex must have list them somewhere in Houston.

And now they want to charge $14.99 for each bag? So we're paying to donate our clothes?

Ripoff.

I used to like thred up. Now they charge mailing and processing fees. My last 3 bags of items have sold items but they net out to zero dollars bc of processing fees. So I am mailing them
Bags of clothes to make zero dollars. Shouldn't processing fees be part of their business? So we are mailing them
Clothes for them to make money.

Dont send clothes in
August 23, 2023

They take tons of clothes, make you pay to return or re-buy your stuff. If you get 50 cents for an item they take it as fees so all you are is literally giving them free clothes to do whatever with. You are better sending to local charity or Once Upon a Child
