We monitor reviews for authenticity
Notified the the website of shoes that were fake, a color that has never been made by the brand, still not taken down. People should probably be really careful when shopping here as they seem to be uneducated about some products.
My question is why can' t they described the item in detail. Like in Yoogies closet. All the items are described as in good condition. No serial no, no description of where the tear and wear are located and most of all very few pictures. That's why I'm hesitant to buy from you. There is also no return policy, very suspicious.
I purchased 3 high end items. The first a Herve Lager dress, which is authentic per Neiman Marcus. My sencond purchase was a ysl downtown bag-authenticated by local consignment pro. And i just received my third purchase, a pair of Prada sneakers, again no issues. I dont know or cant comment on negative posts regarding the boxes being opened or damaged, all i can say is withall my purchases, items were packaged exquisitely. I give it AAA+, also all my shipments came from New Jersey warehouse, maybe that makes a difference. Another thing i want to mention, theyre highly endorsed by Neiman Marcus. I doubt Neiman would taint their reputation endorsing a bogus business.
Thanks for the feedback Adriana!

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY EVER!
As a first time customer I ordered two handbags and they both turned out to be fakes. I should have known that they were not authentic because the prices were really cheap. Even though the handbags were marked as a final sale I did call customer service to explain to them that the two bags were not authentic and they did issue me an RMA label for both bags because they stated I was a first time buyer. I was issued my refund for the full purchased amount thankfully! I should have read the reviews for this site first before making my purchases because had I read the reviews I would have never purchased anything from this site. If you decide to purchase anything from TheReal.com consider yourself warned!
I recently learned about TRR and was happy to read about their authentication process. It made me comfortable enough to want to buy and sell with them. I sent 12 items in for sale. All were accepted. I have to question the people who are reviewing and authenticating items. I sent in 2 pairs of Jimmy choo shoes. One worn and one never worn. Both were listed as "very good condition". Weird right? Even weirder- the worn shoes were priced over $100 more then the brand new shoes in the box. When I questioned this, they said there was residual glue (from a sale sticker) on the bottom sole. The BOTTOM SOLE! Where you walk on. For this reason my $500 pair of shoes were listed for $95. I'm confused and extremely disappointed. So I lost money there. Onto a purchase with them- I bought a Chanel bag listed in "very good" condition. I was very excited to receive it. Upon opening the package I immediately noticed an old lady perfume scent. This was NOT disclosed in the description. Also there was extreme grime on the interior which they called "very faint wear". Um no. Gross. And no returns on handbags. So I'm stuck with a very expensive dirty smelly purse. These 2 experiences have left a bad taste in my mouth and would strongly caution anyone who decides to do business with the company to beware. I really don't think there are professionals authenticating these products. It's really a shame because I was so excited to start using this company. I'm sure this consignment will be my last.
I have both consigned and purchased items from TheRealReal.
As a consignor, they accepted each of my pieces (DVF, Akris) that I sent. They were either in pristine or NWT condition. They priced them each under $100, but it was better than just donating the items.
As a purchaser, I have mixed feelings. The sizing is all over the place. Bust 32 to 48 are all XL. The descriptions are very poorly standardized. Shoes I purchased were obviously damaged which I got from a wish list, meaning the original purchase returned the item. I would not purchase any shoes without enlarging all of the photos and looking at the items in detail. Gucci flats which are well worn and Manolos that are nearly new are both labeled the same in terms of condition. As to clothes, unless the measurements are perfect for you, do not buy. TRR does not show photos of the tags so it is hard to tell if the L in Akris is their L or a L by TRR's measurements. Careful with the return policies. They are clear so read them first. Customer Service has been 5 star so far for my returns.
Over all, I do follow TRR but am not exclusively loyal to them for my high end purchases.
I am extremely upset about a recent interaction I've had with this company. My items accepted and I was later emailed and told that the company would not be taking them after all and they were mailed back to my apartment. I just had time to open the package tonight to find that they were not at all wrapped. They were all thrown into a cardboard box without any kind of wrapping. Nothing at all for 30+ heavy bracelets covered in metal studs. Needless to say, they did not travel well and a ton of them are damaged beyond repair. After they were quoted at a value of $75-195 this is a huge loss for me financially. At least 11 of the bracelets are damaged. This is hundreds of dollars. I cannot believe the complete lack of care throughout this entire process and now the cost of not just my time but of the items. I haven't heard anything back.
Have consigned with them a few times, every time I consign, they find a reason not to accept a item and then charge an enormous amount of money to ship it back and if you ask for an invoice (to see what they actually paid), they say they they can't provide one. I feel it is a scam to compensate for all the free consignment shipping they do.
Received a counterfeit item, do not trust their authentication process!
I just received a brand new with tags pair of Jeremy Scott shoes for my 19 year old son. They were pristine, as advertised. They were packaged very well and shipping was pretty quick! I am loving The Real Real. This is my 4th item purchased from them. They will continue to get my business! I have purchased a LV bag, a Burberry scarf, a used (and great condition) pair of Jeremy Scott Shoes and a new with tags Gucci scarf. So pleased!
Recently ordered 5 items from TRR. Three came last night. Prompt and appropriate shipped (dustbags, tissue paper, etc). I ordered a Giambattista Valli dress, Manolo flats, and Fendi pumps and all were absolutely authentic, and in the same condition listed on the website. What was sent to me was the items pictured. I am hoping the remaining two items are just as good.
In 30 years, I've never written a review online, but thought it was important because I've had a very pleasant experienced with TheRealReal. As a consignor, they have impeccable customer service. I had an unusual situation occur that left me unhappy, so they did everything in their power to do me right and payout more money than initially agreed upon. As a buyer I've purchased some incredible shoes at about 70% off and in almost perfect condition. All in all, I've been really pleased with the experience, and I know at any moment if I'm not happy, TheRealReal will work with me to fix the problem.
Good: I ordered a pre-owned Hermes Scarf for $270 and was pretty happy about it. The description said it was in very good condition and had loose thread.
Bad: I ordered 10+ apparel items (total $650) after that. Since they adjust the brightness of the photos for the clothing A LOT, so when the items arrived they look MUCH WORN OUT/OLD/USED than they appear in the website photos. Some of them look so old that I can't convince myself to keep them even if they have super cute and beautiful prints. It's just that I don't like the idea of wearing a sweater to office that looks a least 10 years old. The most aged sweater I own was bought 6 years ago and it's not nearly as worn out as the one I received.
I'm returning all of them except for three 2 shirts and a cardigan that ACTUALLY match their description: Condition very good. Faint sign of wear. Also returning a "wool coat" that looks thick and warm but it's actually a thin layer of fabric with no heavy wool shell, more like a spring/autumn trench coat.
Ugly: In the items I'm returning, about 3 are DAMAGED. They have holes/VERY obvious damaged lace on them and they all have description saying Condition very good on the website. So it's really like bet for your luck to shop on this website. They don't really do a good job at "investigate" less expensive brands when accepting consignment.
There's a $8. Xx charge for their pre-paid shipping label for every order returned.
I haven't shipped out my return packages yet so I can't comment on their returns as for now.
Zero stars! Don't believe their authenticity claims- it is NOT true. I bought my first item (thankfully, a small one). Supposedly a Kate Spade wristlet bag. Except it was a Kate spade bag (black) with a Michael Kors strap (navy). They offered to take it back for a site credit (really?!) and I lost on shipping both ways. They say that they have an authenticity team but this is something that even an untrained eye can spot. I mean it didn't even match, the leathers were different, oh, and there was a MICHAEL KORS gold plate on the strap of a KATE SPADE bag (assuming that these were even real).
Horrible, horrible. Never again!
I purchased a Gucci bag from The Real Real for the first time.
The product itself was somehow as described on the website, so there is no major complain about that.
However, the way they wrapped, packaged and shipped the high-end brand bag was so so poorly done. The bag had no paper stuffing inside, so it was all flat and wrinkled in a box that was HALF OPEN when arrived at my door.
I almost doubted that someone had ripped open the box and the content had been stolen.
But, it was because the way they shipped.
The box was not constructed properly, distorted, and the packaging tape was not placed neatly on the center of the box.
Only one tape across the bottom, another on the top of the box, and both of them were not straight, half twisted and not centered.
So the box was almost collapsed.
This is not acceptable as professional/commercial way of handling a product that a company deliver to their customers.
It made me doubt that the bag itself could be fake.
If it had been wrapped and packaged nicely, I would felt more satisfied with my purchase.
And I might have bought many more items from their website.
But I am hugely disappointed.
I would not recommend The Real Real to anyone because of this.
They could have done better.
------
After I sent my complaint to The Real Real, they e-mailed me, apologized for their poor service, reimbursed the shipping fee ($11.00) and gave me $25 store credit that can be used for another online purchase. But I'm not going to buy from them again. You have to gain trust to do online business.
They charge your card before they even ship- never received my order--no supervisor available to speak with- I wish I had read these reviews before I had made my order.
Never consign with them! My item was lost at their ware house, my status for sale was updating. It was updating for months! Until I called about 3 months was when I found out it was lost! I have been told I was issued a payment and it's been three weeks with still no payment! It's been really frustrating with them, they tell me one thing after another and nothing has been resolved! I have sold my purse with another company and was more satisfied with them! This company I thought I give it a chance and the results, the service the waiting and the run around they keep giving me is ridiculous! Please save the time and take your item somewhere else! This company is no good!
Where to begin? If you purchase something from them and need to return it "DO NOT USE THERE RETURN LABEL". I sent items back on DECEMBER 18TH with their label and I called today to see what the hold up in my return was and the lady stated " WE USE A THIRD PARTY SERVICE WHO FILLS UP THE BIN OF PACKAGES BEFORE THEY SEND THEM BACK TO US HERE IN NEW JERSEY". Now mind you, when I called this morning (January 4th) she was showing the package was still in Nevada! It was coming from CALIFORNIA! It's taken over 3 weeks to get from california to neveda and still needs to get to NEW JERSEY! The Real Real might have good prices on things but if it takes a month to get your refund thats just not right! Oh and if you used affirm to pay for it your still paying INTEREST AND A PAYMENT ON SOMETHING YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE IN YOUR POSSESSION OR OWN ANYMORE! Someone needs to find out the legality of them doing this!
I purchased a Prada double cuir babe in orange. Was excited because it's a beautiful bag and the price was great for a gently used bag. I received the bag in a dust bag that had a piece of hair on it (yuck). To make things worse the bag turned out to be a fake. I contacted them immediately and requested a refund. The customer service department was really nice to work with and their response was very prompt. They did send me a return label and accosted the bag back and gave me a full refund in the original payment form. So I'm definitely appreciative of that. However, I'm disappointed that they are selling fakes. They said that they will send the bag back to be authenticated but the bag was out back on sale (and still is). I was lucky to spot a fake and get it authenticated. But what about others that don't really know their bags well and cough up all this $$$ only to end up buying a fake. I wish they would do more to authenticate these bags.
I've been buying and consigning with TRR for almost 3 years. I've bought many, many items from handbags to jewelry to clothing and home items. These are items that either I wouldn't buy new because too expensive, or things that may be too expensive but gently used makes them affordable. I've made over $10K in selling items I've consigned. Also, they lost an very expensive piece of jewelry (over $5K) and reimbursed me the full appraised price. The right thing to do for certain, but not necessarily what some companies would do... at least without major hassle. Two things II wish TRR would change 1/ The policy of no returns on handbags. Frankly, I've bought a few handbags that, while they were as described, just weren't what I wanted. Sigh... I own that but would have been happy if I'd been able to return them and, of course, buy something else. Even if they offered store credit rather than refund I'd be happy. 2/ I'd like to see changed is the $ amount necessary to receive 70% commission. I'd like to see it at $5K rather than $7K. I've read the many reviews and IMO many ppl aren't reading or understanding the fine print and details of the process. I don't know about the fake items being sold as that hasn't been my experience but I have had uniformly positive interactions with their customer service. In conclusion, do your homework and understand the process. Realize that even though you bought something new at retail price, you won't get anything near that price for your items. Think about a car and the depreciation the minute you drive it off the lot.
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
