Dodgy dodgy! Do not recommend buying from here. They've authenticated the 'One Touch' ability via PayPal, and at the time of my purchase there was no warning. This means I was stuck buying something without choosing my method of payment or knowing what the conversion was.
Emailed them immediately of the problem (because I had to pay via my bank account as a result which froze the account due to an overdraft) and they ignored all my emails, chose to send the bag anyway. I then had to pay customs duties to get it and pay over $100 just to ship it back.
They eventually apologised for their mistake and refunded my money, and agreed to refund the customs duties I paid plus the shipping back to them. Conveniently stopped responding when it was time to give me the funds.
Will be spreading the word via the internet :) The Real Real sucks!
So excited to learn about The RealReal. First time experience? Super nervous since I'd never bought things on consignment. Got my belt, thought is was a fake and followed up with The RealReal... their customer service was terrific... professional, prompt and patient with me. I know my GUCCI merchandise and this didn't have any of the markings I'm familiar with. Turns out... The RealReal said it was a vintage 1970's and the logo/etc. Was consistent with that circa. Their website listing didn't indicate that. I got the belt and had it authenticated by an outside company. Yes, the belt is real! My ignorance! I went through My Poupette for authentication... they too were amazing. Prompt, professional, thorough and responded in the time they said they would. I'm a The RealReal customer and will try consigning with them as well.
I have ordered from them 3 times. 2 times were satisfactory, the other was not. To make a long story short, 2 pairs of Tory Burch flats both 'size 8' were wildly different sizes in reality (see photo below) When I complained, I received a condescending and wholly inadequate response... twice. I was refunded the return fee but not the shipping fee for the wrongly sized flats.
I bought a DVF dress from TheRealReal. The online photo looked great and they claimed the dress was "good condition". But when I received it, it looked nothing like the photo online. It was excessivley worn and stained. Complete garbage. Also, if you are in Canada and thinking of ordering from TRR, DON'T! I got hit with heavy duty fees. I called Customer service to discuss but they were rude, dismissive, gave me mixed information, and didn't follow through like they said they would. Finally, I gave up and chalked all up to a terrible learning experience. I will never order from them again.
I previously worked at TheRealReal and one reason I left is because I was asked to appraise and "authenticate" big brand name pieces with little or in some cases no training on how to do so. If you have purchased anything from the company, I highly recommend taking it into the brand store to be authenticated. Some pieces are real, but plenty are not.
I cannot even begin to comprehend the negative reviews on here, and feel compelled to write my first (and likely last) website review in an effort to counteract the obvious insanity and/or disingenuousness of all the complaining.
I am completely and utterly addicted to The RealReal, to the point that there no longer seems to be any point in shopping elsewhere. Their inventory is updated with almost maddening frequency; it's hard to keep up with all the gems. It's fairly shameful to admit this, but I've made well over 100 orders in the last two years or so... out of them all, I've had merely 3 less-than-perfect experiences, all of which were addressed to my complete satisfaction (all three were minor discrepancies in description). Their customer service is impeccable--prompt, personal, and thorough. Some reviewers have complained of the constrictions on what they consign, but as a customer I view it as a positive assurance that everything available on their site is of a certain quality (and though there are countless worthy designers who are not represented on TRR, they do nonetheless provide quite an aesthetic range, from classic to modern to avant garde). While hunting on eBay, etc. can occasionally be exhilarating, The RealReal is a simplified haven in which one need not wade through junk to find a reasonably priced, well-made piece. Seriously, their prices are so good that the collective cost of my 100-ish orders would very likely have only covered about ten things purchased at retail. It's a terrible, wonderful enabler of a site...
Sold me a fake Chanel. White medium classic. The gold was so bright and the quoted was not leather! Came with cover and box. No card inside bag and it was stamped in gold writing Chanel in the inside. Called customer service and the gentleman was nasty and that u should learn how to read. No returns! 2,800 dollars. I called Amex they put a stop payment. Then I recalled real real spoke to a sweet representative issued me a RMA apologized. Credit issued! Shane on me! If you can't buy brand new from store, Don't buy! Real real you are an embarrassment
I purchased a pair of wool pants I had missed out on purchasing at retail several seasons prior - needless to say I was absolutely ecstatic to get another chance to find them on TheRealReal - especially at a discounted price. It was described at being in Like New Condition. When I received the pants, I was about to try them on, but noticed that there was crusted menstrual blood in the crotch of the pants just as I was about to put one leg in. I was absolutely horrified, and immediately took the pants to the dry cleaners down the block from me and explained the situation. They were able to clean it, but still, ick! How did that even pass inspection? Get it together!
Between them and fedex I don't know who is worst. Horrible experience won't be purchasing from them again.
I used to buy from TheRealReal until my sister purchased a Louis Vuitton Sofia Copolla bag and I looked it carefully. Totally fake. Date codes totally wrong, font on label completely wrong. When we complained they turned it around on us saying we had waited too long to complain AND that we had altered the bag. If you compare the bag to the photos they posted when selling it's the same bag. To blame it on the customer is just wrong. Their authentication process is bogus if they could let that bag pass as real. And to not take any responsibility is just bad business. Never again!
I have purchased 6 items in several separate transactions. In all but 2 I was very satisfied. One scarf appeared very different than the diescription. One scarf I returned because it was in such bad condition. Their customer service has been very good. However their shipping prices are way too much and they give you very little time to shop
For more than one item at a time so that you can bundle your shipping. Their descriptions are not always accurate. They could do a more detailed job there. Scarves were shipped wrinkled and had to be ironed. They could do a better job with presentation. I won't consign after reading all the negative reviews. I had wanted to purchase an LV bag but won't now after reading all the reviews about the sale of fakes here.
Got couple shoes from this company, the size were completely off! They are two sizes bigger than what they suppose to be, so I can't even wear them at all. Very upset! And I also check out their Hermes bags, the one I saw was fake!
I love the real real website. It's a lot of fun shopping there. Excellent service..
This is the second time they have lost an item of mine. First time I let slide item was old ands not worth pursuing. This time my Giuseppe Zanotti pumps we're brand new. They have passed me off to multiple people in the company all who could care less about solving the issue.
So I have two issues, the shoes I purchased were listed as a size 6, but they are a 6.5 I contacted RealReal immediately and they still have not responded
The other is the annoying 15 minute cart limit. So unless you can figure out everything you want in 15 minutes, don't bother. They really need to do something about this, it is not customer friendly.
I am a consignment shopper holic. I basically shop consignment. Very rarely do I shop in the regular stores. I read the reviews and most of them are not good but I went ahead and ordered just to see for myself. I ordered 3 pairs of shoes. On one pair the straps were broken and they were not in good condition. Listen to the negative reviews. I am returning my merchandise right away. These people do not even inspect the items they are selling.
I love this site! I'm very wary of all of the reviews that claim they received "fake" merchandise just because they own a few pieces by the same manufacturer. Also of people who can look at a picture online and claim the item is fake. I worked in style showrooms for years. We would have people claim that they never saw a color before and it was fake. Many times it would be a limited color that the company decided not to mass produce. Unless these people have a written letter from the manufacturer of the item stating it was a counterfeit, I would not take their word. Louis Vuitton and other designers WILL NOT authenticate an item if you take it to them. There are too many variations and different countries that they sell in.
If you are truly a high end designer shopper you would know this. Also, for people claiming they didn't get enough money for their items. Sell them yourself on Ebay. I use this site to sell my designer items I no longer use. It is no work on my part besides getting the items out of the closet and having someone pick them up from me.
Ebay is alot of work and they charge high fees to sell.
I would highly recommend this site for both buying and selling!
Thanks for your feedback Maria!

Happy Shopping!
You have 15 minutes to buy your item once it's in your basket, even if it's a20$ item you'd still have to pay 12$ Standard shipping.
If you want to buy more than one item, you either have to keep on adding the previous item back to the cart every 20min, or you have to pay shipping for each item! They won't work with you to group ship, very frustrating especially that you have so many other sites that are way more accommodating, and have much better customer service.
I would also add that the items they sell are in a very used condition even though described as "good condition" so keep your expectations low!
Ordered item. Received notice they couldn't find item and they cancelled my order. My birthday present! 2 days later they find it! Well hubby already got me a birthday present in its place. I called and they even gave me a statement in writing that they had cancelled my order and not to worry no charge to my card would be made. Really? Yes, you guessed it there was the charge! I called and they spoke to me like thugs. I asked for a manager and they refused. This will go down as the worst customer service blunder ever. Run in the shoes you own and know are real and pass on this company. No customer service. No ethics. By the way how do you lose a expensive piece of jewelry. Wonder if the seller ever found out. I wouldn't sell anything with these low end frauds. Oh, and my credit card company took care of it finally. They were no help. Total nightmare! Scam. Buyer beware!
I had read so many negative reviews, I was scarred to purchase from them, but I have nothing but good things to say@ this time. I recieved 2 Diane von Furstenberg bags. They where both brand new new with tags, & not even advertised as such. One even had the dust bag still in the plastic. I am a very happy customer, & both bags I purchased where the same bag in the pictures. They where also packaged nicely as well.
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
