I have been with RealReal for years and I bought quite a few things through that website. I do not know if somebody else is running things there but their prices went up and quality not necessarily. Discounts are not as beneficiary as before and they took away their annual 50% off monthly sale. You won't be able to apply discounts to some certain items and it is simply more expenive and I noticed.
I won't be shopping with them as much anymore. Appreciate your clients.
Bought a rare Vuitton bag with my credit card. Are at deal. The next morning I received an e-mail asking for Canadian Citizenship documentation AND a bank statement? To show I had made the purchase! I declined ( I would NEVERTHELESS send sensitive info like that across the Internet). I phoned the toll free number and asked why they needed any other info for this credit card info. They said they do it for first time customers with purchases over $1000! I declined and cancelled the order. No way ANYONE gets that sort of info! My online bank statement showed the purchase pendin. Next day the full purchase went through! I informed TD Visa of the situation. When I called the company again the representative was defensive and quite abrupt.
The money was refunded the next day, to their credit. Why on earth does The Real Real require sensitive info? Don't ever send it.
CANADIANS BEWARE.
When the purchase was refunded the total was $83 less than the original price! Apparently TD, and I am sure ALL Canadian banks do the same. When making a purchase the bank charges a " buy" rate and if you return a purchase or cancel an order that was being processed, the bank charges you a " sell" rate in converting currency! So you could be out big dollars depending on cost of said purchase! I am pretty sure most Canadians are unaware of this bank " practice".
Good news is I fought TD and got the difference ( in less than 24 hours) refunded.
Hi Adam,
I wanted to follow up on our previous message. Please understand that our account manager requires additional information for all new customers with high-value international orders. This is ultimately for the customer's protection. This process alleviates fraudulent orders from occurring.
Hopefully, our resolution has been accommodating. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any further concerns.
A bunch of scam artists run this show! I purchased a dress advertised as being a Roberto Cavalli for $1680. Upon receipt I noticed it looked very familiar. Bam! I realized that my SIL owns this dress. We compared it and it was THE identical dress. It was NOT a Roberto Cavalli. Her dress was purchased brand new from an on-line dress store for $550! I immediately called the RealReal. Without argument they refunded my shipping cost and provided me with a shipping label to return the dress. The sales person indicated that she would bring this to the attention of the "authentication team". Guess what? They relisted the dress and they are fraudulently claiming once again that it's a Roberto Cavalli. It is most definitely NOT a Roberto Cavalli dress! Buyer be ware.
Hi Irina,
I wanted to follow up on our previous message. We have verified the authenticity of this item with our director of authenticity. This particular item was a sample. The interior construction is poor, possibly altered in house as sample tag has one size smaller size listed than original sizing. This is normal for sample items. This item has been deemed authentic.
Please let us know if you have any further concerns.
I have been shopping with the realreal since 2012. I had made a living and kept up my style in dressing. When my life when to zero. No one knew the cost of my clothes but assumed I bought for full value. I had a child that was slow in school and cost me $1200 a month to have a one and one with him teaching him everyday... I bought from the real real and sold my client and then became a personal shopper... yes did made a good profit.
And everyone was happy
I have to say that I love therealreal. I have consigned with them, and had a quick turn around of fast payment, fair prices, and with great ease. As a buyer I love them even more because of therealreal I will never shop retail again. I used to buy Chanel retail and I am seeing the exact same authentic stuff with tags for way less the price. I have also bought a used Birkin that I had professionally authenticated, and it was real. I only hope that everyone else has the same great experience that I have had.
I just received my Christian Louboutin pumps. Brand New with tags. Excellent purchase! I am so satisfied with the price and the shoes. I wanted to send my review immediately because we always send comments when we are not satisfied.
Purchased a black leather Burberry satchel and found it was piss poorly dyed with some sort of shoe polish or something. They missed a bunch of spots where the original color shows through along the seams, under buckles, etc. Apparently, the original color was silvery-gunmetal color, not black. I thought the whole point from buying from TheRealReal instead of eBay was that the item is professionally authenticated and inspected? They are requesting I close my Paypal dispute before they can issue me a refund for *just the shipping charge*. They want me to close my dispute before they will issue me a return shipping label and then will *decide to issue me my full refund* when they get the bag back. Super sketchy! The Paypal dispute is my insurance that they make this goof-up right so I am hesitant to close it. This is not right!
UPDATE: Paypal advised me to escalate the dispute and not close the dispute as TheRealReal rep advised.
UPDATE: TheRealReal offered me a full refund, $40 site credit and waived the return shipping fee if I drop the Paypal dispute, which I agreed to. They even arranged for package pick up which is awesome since closest FedEx drop off is 20-25 mins away. I asked if they would cover the cost of having the bag professionally dyed/restored ($50-100) instead of site credit and sending the bag back since there are no comparable bags on their site that matches the busted one I bought and they said no, which was totally fine but worth asking as I will likely never use the site credit I received. At the end of the day I got all my $ back including shipping so I'm happy, but it took A LOT of work to get it back. I would rate their customer service a 3-4 and their authenticity/quality inspection service a 0-1.
I had heard about this new website so thought I would give it a try. I consigned once there and it went okay. But purchasing is a completely different thing. I started slow and purchased a Proenza wallet they said was in either very good or good condition. When I received it I cleaned with a gentle leather cleaner and all that came off was shoe polish. It then looked terrible. But, thinking maybe it was an anomaly I decided to start even smaller. Shopping the flash sales. So last night I start looking through things It was such a frustrating experience. They give you 20 minutes from the time you put the first thing in your cart (even as you add other things) and then you must make the purchase immediately. It's like $11 or $12 too. Kind of high. So I did purchase two things and continued shopping and bought another dress in the time span of about half an hour, paying an additional shipping charge as there is no way around it. Given that they market themselves a luxury website I thought I would call today and they would refund one of the shipping charges. In the order confirmation they sent me they even combined the two order confirmations in one email, although giving it different order numbers. So, as I called customer service today to explain the situation I was basically told that this is the way they run thier business and it's like a game. What? I tried to explain that luxury is not only about labels, but also the customer service experience he basically said too bad. It was such arrogance. I told him that within two miles of my house I have two luxury consignment stores where I can actually go in and try on and see actual condition of item without all of the hassle. He told me to not compare them to other businesses. He finally agreed to refund half of one of the shipping charges. But I don't remember him even taking down my name or order number. I'm glad I started small. It was such a ridiculously arrogant conversation, with no regard for the customer. He actually said that is how they make thier money is through shipping. So, I wonder how these larger brick and mortars who have the same split with consigning are making thier money? I will not be shopping here anymore if this is how they treat thier customers. There are too many other companies that do care to deal with this foolishness. All over $11.
I purchased a Louis Vuitton bag that according to the Real Real Website was in "good"condition. The bag was in horrible condition. I am not sure how anyone would ever consider this in good condition. I would never ever carry it anywhere. I also have reasons to doubt the authenticity of the bag. Oh and of course it was a "final" sale. I would never have wasted my money if it was not in good condition. In contrast, I have bought used bags on other competitor websites that state they are in good condition and they actually are. I will NEVER EVER recommend this website or purchase anything again! I feel I was completely ripped off with a disgraceful mess of a bag.
This was my first time ordering anything from TRR and it was perfect! The MSGM Boxy Fringe-Accented Jacket was what I had been searching for. Kind of pricey, but with a $25 credit for first time buyers and 20% off, it definitely softened the blow! Quick shipping too
I sent The Real Real a Balenciaga Motocross Giant 12 iPad Case which I originally purchased at Barneys for over $400 several years ago. I shipped it in November of 2016 in perfect condition, and they JUST NOW SOLD IT on April 6th! They listed it originally at $175, but said they would never go below 50% off. Instead they sold it for $75 (over 50% off), leaving me with a measly $42.63 commission! I could have done better selling it on Craig's List or Ebay! I HIGHLY do not recommend using The Real Real. It was a waste of my time and money!
Hi Ali,
I spoke with our customer service department and although we do stand by the pricing, we are adjusting your payment for the difference.
The price quote you provided from April 2016 was prior to the item being evaluated. It looks like when you first communicated with us you would have been at 60%, but because the item was sent in 7 months later, you came in at 55%. The item was on the site for over 120 days before selling in a 50% off sale.
The customer service representative you spoke with will be able to tell you when you will see the payment. Let us know if there's anything else we can help with.
I had heard terrible things about TheRealReal but decided to look anyway, I found 2 hand bags for sale that I fell in love with, I thought how bad could it be? These are not super high end, I'm not committing to purchase something that costs thousands.
I was so terribly wrong. Bag number one. The pictures did not show the angle that I could see the filth on the zipper and lining, instead it showed the other side of the zipper. There is a NO return policy in place, basically they guarantee that it's authentic thats it! It claimed to "come with a dust bag" it was a cheap piece of garbage with the website logo on it. It has no shoulder strap, but I knew that, what I didn't know was the bag losses structure with out it. I over paid for this because if the angles of the photos, that showed only the good side. If I had the full story I would have passed on this one
Bag number 2, really cute, BUT stinks of maple syrup? It has shredding on the strap area, again the magic of camera angles made this bag look better than it is. I also have started to suspect that it may not be authentic, I have not been able to find this manufacturer use canvas on any bags, all of the ones I find in this style have been leather. The company is known for its leather so now I'm suspicious of this one.
The only recourse I would have to return them is if they are fake, I'm going to guess that the in house experts will tell me they are real. They only thing I can do us try to sell them to recover some of my money, but I doubt I can get a third of it back. Unless I do a shady a light of hand like this web site and dump them off on the next unsuspecting victim. And that's not going to happen, I have too much integrity to do that to some one else.
Beware of TheRealReal, you won't get what you pay fir
Hi Sherry,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our VP of customer service has put a note on your orders to process the return.
Please contact our customer service team at [email protected] or 855.435.5893 ext. 1, if you have any questions about your return.
I have ordered clothing from TheRealReal and also consigned with them. The consignment process was easy-- someone came to my house, looked through my things, and then set up a contract for me to take a couple items and list them. Within a week, my items were listed online. The percentage you keep is 55%, which doesn't sound all that amazing but I own an online shop where I go through listing and shipping items myself and have discovered that it actually takes up a lot of time, energy, and cost to manage. Paying a 45% commission fee really isn't that bad, all things considered.
Their clothing is really fine quality, as well. They have some good 20% off sales that make a lot of their luxury items a steal.
I ordered a LV Keepall 60 from TheRealReal. The description was as usual and inspected all the pictures closely. It arrives and as soon as I opened the box, i got a bad smell. The Keepall had a weird, bad smell. I already had a bad experience with a smelly LV Alma that I had bought new and it started to smell after 2 years and nothing was even done to it so this made me angry as no mention of it in description. I emailed customer service and they said they don't put any notations on smells as they are subjective. Really? All smells/ problems should be noted period. They said sale is final. I am working on getting it out but I am not happy it was not in description or I would have moved on.
Hi Donna, I spoke to our customer service team who said they are in contact with you about a return. Please let us know if there's anything else we can help with. Thank you.
I bought a Gucci bag the description or picture does not reflect the bag condition inside and out. R*******. It is very scary to even touch the bag it should be a 70% off sale. It's other consignment sites to use or even your local pawn shop would be better than giving your money to TheRealReal
Hi Isha,
I spoke to customer service who said they reached out to you and the return is being processed. Please let us know if there's anything else we can help with. Thank you.
I just bought a pair of Dolce and Gabbana and Tory Burch sandals, in great condition! I will recommend this website to anyone! The shipping was amazing! Almost 24 hours later, I got my order! I will buy here, again and again and again!
UPDATE: One of the pieces I returned has been relisted. Interesting that although I emailed and wrote on the return form that I was returning because there is a hole in the back of the shirt, the hole is NOT described in the "Condition" section of the re-listing. So clearly they do not update "Condition" to indicate damage when pieces are returned. Disappointing because it will result in unnecessary returns and is misleading, but still a great site in my opinion. Will continue to shop there due to good deals, good customer service, and easy returns.
UPDATE: I recently wrote a 3 star review because the return process was making anxious. After a great interaction with customer service and a smooth refund, I'm very happy to upgrade to 4 stars. The only reason it's not 5 is that I've found about half of the orders I get aren't true to the description. E.g., different size or undisclosed damage to the item. That's not a big deal to me - it's second hand, after all, so as long as returns process smoothly it's worth the slight hassle for the chance to get a great deal. Very happy RealReal customer.
The reviews here are less than glowing, so I was relieved when my items started arriving. Many BEAUTIFUL pieces, Tod shoes and Burberry coat etc at fantastic values! Other pieces didn't fit and/or had damage/flaws that weren't described. I'm trying to return those, and waiting on responses to two inquiries on returns that so far have been ignored. So I'm holding my breath. If the returns end up being processed smoothly, then I will certainly change my 3 stars to 5 stars and keep on shopping... if not, then I'll be returning to change to 1 star and report them as a scam to AGO and BBB.
I bought a piece of fine jewelry and after purchasing, realized that there was a retail pricing error which made my purchasing price higher. I sent that information to TRR and they were able to correct the error and reimburse me the $50 price discrepancy. It took a few emails and information needed to be provided in my part, but it was pretty painless and the two customer service reps were both prompt and polite. I wasn't so sure about buying through the site after reading some poor reviews, but I am very pleased.
I purchased a Louis Vuittan Monogram Luco Tote in mid December for $800, I carried it on and off for two weeks during the holiday then packed it away. I took it out the other day, used it for 2 hours and the strap broke, I reached out to customer service who basically said tough luck, you bought it, it said it was "good" condition so no returns. I expect that when I buy a used item it will not be perfect but to use it only a dozen times and now either trash it or spend $160 to have a new strap put on, which will never match the other strap color is just horrible business. I assume they don't want repeat customers.
Hi Tracey,
We're sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your purchase. When we inspect the quality of our products they are categorized as Pristine, Excellent, Very Good and Good. The product description did note moderate wear and discoloration at straps. We understand the frustration and would like to offer you a site credit which has been added to your account.
I purchased a Louis Vuitton Monogramouflage iPhone case from TheRealReal about a week ago. When the case finally arrived, it was clearly fake. The monogramouflage pieces have black stitching and this case had green stitching. The serial number inside the case was printed with green metallic ink. When have you ever seen that? I reached out to their customer service department and instead of an apology, they educated me on their authentication process: "Authenticity is the cornerstone of The RealReal. We staff in-house professionals including gemologists, horologists, art appraisers and apparel experts that ensure every item sold is 100% authentic and in beautiful condition."
I have purchased many items from their website and now I am concerned that my other items may be counterfeit as well. How should I trust them if they weren't able to tell that this Louis Vuitton case is counterfeit? Very disappointed. The least they could do is offer some sort of service recovery -- but nothing. Definitely not shopping on this site anymore! Horrible customer service.
**UPDATE: TheRealReal removed the phone case that I purchased from their website. They obviously realized it was counterfeit upon closer inspection.
Hi Z. G.,
We take any concern of questionable authenticity very seriously and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our items and if there is any question we offer a return. We took a look at your account and our expert Director of Authenticity has reviewed the other items you have purchased which are all guaranteed authentic. As for the LV phone case, we see that you have processed a return and we will reevaluate the item once we receive it. Again, we thank you for notifying us about this product and please let us know if there's anything else we can do.
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
The RealReal is the leader in authenticated luxury consignment. With an expert behind every item, we ensure everything we sell is 100% real. As a sustainable company, we give new life to pieces by brands from Chanel to Cartier, and hundreds more. Exten...

I wanted to follow up regarding our previous message. Please understand, that our items vary in price. We take the time to critique the items sent in for consignment, and price according to the items condition, value, how current the item is, etc. The market dictates our pricing, and with over 4 Million items sold, we have built a unique expertise regarding what designer items are worth.
Hopefully, our resolution has been accommodating. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any further concerns.
