The original quotes of my items were higher priced then when they actually listed them. I mailed in 7 designer items, 1 was rejected and was to be mailed back. Another wasn't listed correctly resulted in wrong pricing. Rejected item was lost (stolen) and never returned even though I was compensated and the other item I'm still working on to get compensated correctly. Beware that not everything goes smoothly. Will not consign with them again.
Do NOT EVER EVER sell with this company. They lost my Birkin bag, then my box, agreed to pay me the full consignment cost, & is now saying that they refuse to because THEY lost the box and dustbag (essential parts to selling my item). This is the MOST unprofessional, unsympathetic, and disorganized company I have EVER dealt with. Please please look and read my photo emails before ever considering to sell or consign with this company as I hope no one else ever has to go through what I'm going through. Especially don't ever sell or consign expensive items like Birkins or Chanels.
I met with a consultant and gave her a purse that was worth $1700, she said that she needed to go get it appraised before it was put on the website and didn't even explain what the percentage would be. She said that it needed to be checked that it was real before she can tell me what the percentage would be. Then, after 30 days, I'm not hearing back from the girl. I asked if I could have my purse back she didn't informed me it was already listed and she listed it for a price that was ridiculously low. She sold the purse for $500 and I'm only going to end up getting 300 out of that.
Consignor services have degraded substantially since I first started selling through the RealReal. In my last shipment, over half my items had significant listing errors. Common, repeated errors include: 1) Not honoring price quotes provided for items that have been vetted in advance, despite being deemed in excellent condition, 2) incorrectly describing items in ways that diminish their value; for example, a) describing authentic wool and broadtail coats as "faux fur", b) failing to note when items have tags attached, 3) losing items, and 4) taking many months to follow through on requested corrections, during which time it is inactive, so that by the time the item is relisted it is no longer in season. When errors are made on their side with respect to losing or mispricing items, they offer a lowball commission based on their algorithm calculations of "current market conditions", disregarding evidence provided of identical items selling at much higher prices at the same time. Their process for seeking a resolution seems like it is designed to wear you down. I chose to sell via consignment on the RealReal instead of directly on eBay because I thought it would be easier and I trusted that their descriptions and commissions would be based on expertise and integrity. Consigning with the RealReal is easier only if you don't care how little you receive and don't attempt to correct listing errors. I will be filing a case with the Better Business Bureau.
My stolen bag was recently sold on this website. The reason you're able to buy premium goods for a low price could possibly be the source of the items.
I had 3 high end items to sell and decided to give this company a try. It will be my LAST and I will be sharing with everybody who will listen to NOT work with this company! My 3 items were received on 2/17/23. I was told reviewing and processing of the items can take up to 3 weeks. I was also told that the price they decided to sell my items would be shared with me prior to the items going 'live' in case I didn't like their price. That did NOT happen. Two of my items went live without The Real Real advising me of their price beforehand. My shoes sold on 3/13. My purse sold on 3/6. My $500 watch? It somehow got 'lost.' They offered zero explanation as to how this could happen. But were quick to provide a 'resolution' by giving me a refund of my 'commission rate' from their list price as if my item actually went live! This is outright theft. I am out a $500 watch, and TheRealReal is instead refunding me $267 which would have been my commission after the item sold. I am disgusted with how this company does business and will put them on blast until this is properly rectified. Please look into this company and how often their customer's shipped items go 'missing.' The following two sentences are from an email of one of their 'consignment concierges'...note, they have a "shortage department." Which should make one wonder how often items go missing in order for a "shortage department" to exist. Secondly, the "buyout process is handled as if the item was sold on our website." That is THEFT! They lost my item. It was never sold on their website. And it's value is over my commission rate.
"Please note, the buyout process is handled as if the item was sold on our website.
I have escalated this issue to our shortage department to accommodate the absolute best buyout price."
I ordered a Burberry Coat, which was listed as a size 12 for $445. I was sent a coat that was a size 2, obviously very much not going to fit.
When I reached out to the customer service team, they were apologetic and offered the return, however, they did not send the correct size that I had originally purchased. I also had to pay customs duties on this garment for a total of $159. As it was their shipping mistake that sent me an incorrect garment, I asked to be reimbursed for the customs or to have that as store credit. They directed me to contact UPS, and provided a broken link but would not fix the mistake or cover the cost. I do not expect UPS to reimburse me for the cost of import, as I feel that is beyond their control.
I had to ask repeatedly for store credit because of the poor experience and they offered $25.
Just beware of same, I think it was a poor company response as it was their error. I would not order again through this company in case of another error causing me to pay high import fees.
Be aware and read the fine print! For example: sold blouse for $60. My cut? $2
They paid me 20% of what it sold for, then $10 fee to send me a check! So big $2 profit for me, $58 dollar win for them.
They also sold my Jimmy Choo shoes, wore 3x that included dust bag and box. They discounted them the first day put up on site 30%! Rep told me before listed with them they only discount it after it doesn't sell. Excuse me?
Read the fine print!
Really disappointed - for a premium website I expected much higher standards. I think the postage price is quite hidden until you pay for it, which is a bit sneaky. I've also been told I need to pay another £50 in import charges, I've already paid about £40 in postage. It's extortionate and there was no warning about this until I received a text from UPS.
I emailed them to ask them about this and no one has replied. Very disappointing.
I was selling some items on TRR and they priced everything so low that I ended up making $10 for a $350 new with tags Alice + Olivia dress and $13 for a $220 pair of Ray Bans. The communication between the assistant who picked up the clothes and the rest of the team was pretty bad, as well, and they also took $10 off my check without telling me there was a charge for mailed checks. You can get better returns consigning, ThredUp, or selling on Poshmark. TRR may be good for purchasing, but it is horrible for selling items!
This business is a disaster. First off the Dallas location is closed but website shows open and online they keep asking me if I want to drop off items to consign. ( so the staff isn't even aware) If you consign items you'll make nothing, but you can buy items dirt cheap because they practically give items away. The website is a nightmare to navigate, they don't even put the style names and sizes are wrong. ( Ie use Medium when it's a size 6 or 8, so you have no idea which one the item of clothing is and there is a big difference)
Also google all of the pending lawsuits against them.
Slow processing lack luster service and unhelpful customer service, I would not recommend them I paid for 1-2 day shipping and I called them on the 4th day and my item wasn't even processed yet
Sold items on The Realreal since 2018 and was overall satisfied until 2022 when Consignor services, pricing, and condition evaluation's became very very inconsistent. Communication this year on my new listings is completely nonexistent and the pricing is terrible! Here's an example of my Gucci loafers in very good condition, listed as good condition and priced way too low. Of course they sold immediately, the first day. There is no longer anyone to talk to if you have an issue with your consignment items. It's all texting to a bot and is very time consuming. And Consignor specialist finally emailed me back after several days and its been too little too late. This is definitely the last consignment I'm doing. I'm asking for a few items to be returned to me.
Will not stand by their products at all. Completely defective product sold with not support. They preach authenticity and customer support but are anything but. I will never purchase from them again! After one wear my shoes fell apart.
WARNING! People do not use the RealReal. This used to be a reliable, reputable company but they have changed! DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR ITEMS. They lost my high value items and are not taking responsibility for it! Customer service is horrendous! Go elsewhere!
The RealReal Best place to get your best bags clothes and shoess you check by yourself and see the beautiful things there
They don't offer full return. Expect to be stuck with your purchase or return at a lesser price. Never seen anything like that before.
Placed my first order on Therealreal
I purchased two items. A pair of Gucci loafers and an Hermes shirt. About an hour later I receive an email that my order has been canceled. No details, just canceled. I immediately think my credit card has flagged it for fraud so I spend time with them...No fraud. So I reach out to RealReal to get more details on my cancelation. I am told "Inventory Issues" well, you're good at keeping it vague! But for my troubles I am getting a $25 credit. Well, now I can go buy that Porsche! But wait, what is an "Inventory Issue" The item either cannot be located or is unfit to sell. OK, I get it...but when that happens to BOTH items on the sale, that tells me therealreal is the issue, not the item. I declined the credit offer and closed my just opened account. Making me jump through hoops to get answers as to why my order was canceled is also called wasting my time. You don't get to do that and keep me as a customer.
MISLEADING PRICING - Beware International Customers.
TRR asks you what currency you would like to shop in. Be aware, you will be charged in USD (unknowingly). It will not be stated on the order confirmation. Only until you receive your credit card statement will you be shocked. Don't bother getting in contact with their customer service department. Unless you like going around in circles.
Jennifer Miceck is racist son of a b... hoping her nothing but sickness and bad hair days white cracker she is a manager at the warehouse in the Secaucus for client services.
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
