Not worth the effort. It used to be a convenient service but now they charge you fees at every turn. They beg your for items then arbitrarily price your items (not fairly) and charge random fees - netting almost zero dollars for your items and time. Asking for my items back would yield a massive loss so I'm stuck with them until my last items sell. Use the other websites such as bag borrow steal.
Take your quality items to any other resale site. TRR will pay you so little it's almost more worth it to donate your clothing.
I decided to test selling a mid-level designer bag on their site. They made the process for listing items easy and seamless. Once the item was listed it took months for them to sell it and in those months the price of the items kept getting discounted. It went from $190 to $99 the final selling price. I was excited to see that the item sold but when i went to go see my payout it was only $19! Honestly what a joke. I could have taken this same bag to Crossroads or another co-consignment store and gotten twice as much for it.
My recco is to not use this site unless you're selling high luxury items $500++
I sent a pair of Gucci shoes to be sold they sold them to someone who kept them for three weeks then returned them. After it was returned I requested the item back and I got it back all damaged the shoes I sent where in excellent condition I got them back all ripped and scuffed on top. They gave the woman who damaged them a full refund and now they are telling me to send them back to them for a 50 percent commission! I'm taking the hit on this?!? It was damaged in your possession and u still want ur commission plus the item so u can probably resell it for a full commission. The real real shouldn't have given her a full refund in the first place! The first nine pictures are the damage and the last 5 are what they looked like when I sent them before the damage two completely different shoes! I'm so mad do not trust the real real with ur stuff!
I called and texted The Real Real representative who reached out to me, and instead of protecting my purchase, as promised and asking for a price check with owner, which was me, they sold my expensive limited edition designer bag for 10 percent of purchase price! They claimed it was creased but in good condition, (it was in mint condition) decided to list it super cheap! Without checking with me. I gave them a call, an email and a text. Instead they listed it quickly, probably so they could buy it themselves...
I am sure whoever wears my brand new handbag will get some bad karma. They literally stole the bag from me. I would check out; Fashionphile, or Dallas Designer handbags instead. They are a more sophisticated team, not desperate to score handbags and steal from their customers. Btw, I had that experience before with them 10 years ago, but they assured me, they had corrected that behavior and that they did price checks. They did not!
Sell elsewhere, these girls and re-sell attendants are eagerly awaiting your designer to sell super buy cheap. I should have gifted my special edition bag. Live and learn. Was an expensive lesson. Plz do not make the same mistake and learn from mine...
I suppose the only way of getting around this is making a video AT THE SHIPPING CENTER of you placing every item into the box, closing it up, passing it to the employee, and receiving a tracking number. So crazy. They basically stole $200 from me.
The pros:
Good finds for good prices
The cons:
Many things are not as described (size or condition)
Customer service is terrible, inconsistent and very time consuming. I once had to wait weeks for a refund on an item that was sent damaged; and likely would have never been refunded if I didn't get on chat lines.
International shipping is steep
Notorious. For fakes
Recently I had a parcel get sent back within two days of arrival. I did not have a chance to clear it and TRR says they cannot deliver me the goods. I'm told by the shipping service they requested it be returned.
In general I try to avoid this site, it's not worth the painful service. I only dip in when that hard to find scoop can only be bought here.
Great deals and reasonable prices! I usually shop items on sale, and some items are not as good,,but there are also good deals.
I called Custer customer service and the support that the bag I bought was authentic. And they would send me an email to have it sent back to store to verify authentication. They were very helpful. The purse is authentic after all but comes with no authentic card with number on it to prove its original and it doesn't come with the correct bag cover for the purse.
I sent a box of items to TRR for consignment - Jewelry, high end designer shoes, and bags. They received the box, many of the items are actually up on the site, some have even sold - but they can't seem to locate my consignment in their system and account for all my items. After weeks of requests for an update I haven't received a resolution. They can't seem to connect the items on the site to my consignment account and They simply are unable to give me an answer as to what happened to my items. Unbelievably disappointing. I've attached a photo of a ring I sent to the rep at The Real Real (this is just one example of what's happened to me). Two of the three bands are up on the site, but one has just gone missing. None of the items I sent in have been assigned to me as the consignor, so even as the pieces are sold, I am not receiving my commission. Please think twice before you ship items to this site. There is no guarantee that you will ever see a dime of your money.
The RealReal sold me an item, messed up the shipping, it was returned and then when I asked to buy it again the told me to wait til it became available. I waited for weeks and eventually it did, only to sell to someone else. I cannot believe how poorly this platform responded to this situation. Complete waste of time.
I bought a gucci wallet from the site back in July. I bought I new one a couple weeks ago but from a private seller. I sent back the wallet I had bought from them for a reconsignment and they sent it back to me saying the authenticity was that it was fake. They posted it at questioning authentication. I emailed them multiple times only heard back from one person who told me multiple times she was going to send the receipt from when I originally bought it from them. Never heard back from anyone. So I guess they are selling fake stuff. Be careful
I got the package and it is so beautiful! Thank you so much I will order again and thank you for your help!
Item descriptions are not accurate. Pricing for consignment is completely unreflective of condition. No responses to concerns from customer service- glad I paid through PayPal and can dispute charges.
Mistakes happen. It's how a company fixes that mistake that matters more. I was impressed with their customer service and IMMEDIATE attention to my issue. Very happy with the outcome and will remain a happy customer.
Buy from them because you are getting prized possessions from people like me they have taken incredible care of our nice possessions. Never sell to them. Give them to family and friends vs the Pennie's these robbers give you
They literally stole an alligator handbag from me that costs $6000. They broke the handle I sent it back to be fixed
& they gave me 88 for the damages & kept my bag. THEY ARE THIEVES DO NIT TRUST THEM. THEY LIE. THEY NEED TO BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS.
I love buying from them and the return policy. I only whish to see better and clear pictures of the items. I purchased a wonderful black peacoat, even better in person, but realized it is not what I wanted - the pictures are very dark and not much description of the details and you can hardly see anything. Now they have a lot of other black and navy coats, but I can't really see the details. Also I hope they don't work with lasership. It's the second time they dumped the items outside the building, that has hundreds units.
You will receive your item but not in good condition and to compensate for the fortune you will have spent they will offer you a credit of $30
And that on the pretext that it was written that there were slight imperfections. They will be wholeheartedly with you and they will be understanding. But that'll be all they can do for you
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
