The app makes it easy to keep on top of new items, and the return policy gives me a comfort level when purchasing items at a large price-point.
I placed an order of Feb 18th, 2021. Order # R*******. My order was split in two separate shipments but both were shipped and received on the same day.
The pricy Hermes scarfs rather than being folded and then placed in the pouch they were instead shoved and squeezed in the pouch without being folded. I had to steam iron them in order to see if I want to keep them or return? Simply because with so much crease and wrinkle I was unable to detect possible flaws on the item.
Now I understand why some of my perfect condition items get returned back by the seller despite major discount on almost brand new items. They are not packed and presented properly. Instead they are presented like they came from trash can or Salvation Army or any other thrift store?!

My last order did not work out so well - I had to return both items due to sizing. Sizing is somewhat complicated and not always dependable. However, I always love shopping on the The Real Real and usually I'm happy with my purchases: to find something special of great quality and great price: love it.
Oh, something I do find annoying is the double shipping charge of $11.95 when something needs to be returned: TRR charges a $11.95 shipping fee upon purchase as well as upon returning an item (in my case usually due to a sizing issue which is mostly beyond control). So, if you need to return an item, you just lost $24. Of course, the shipping cost could be less if one would decide to mail themselves, but I just want to make sure it'll get back to TRR okay and I guess that is what you pay for. Again, it won't stop me from shopping at TRR :)
In an effort to begin a relationship of consignment and purchases, I connected with an account manager who initially was quite helpful in procuring items. I was then extremely dissatisfied with the prices attributed to the items (FYI the account manager agreed with the inappropriate valuations) along with pointing out items were being photographed backwards and inaccurate descriptions (as in the item was new with tags, but listed otherwise). It takes over a week to hear back from her and days to hear back from the general customer service email or phone, if at all. I am forced to choose another venue to consign with given how horribly my account has been managed. It is very unfortunate as I looked forward to a strong relationship and am open to a relationship repair if given a new account manager.
I don't get to see all the available items. My wife had visibility to see even cooler items than me even when the items weren't on hold or sold yet. We tested 2 items and on my app it said these items didn't exist.
In general, I love the Real Real, but I am definitely put off buying things that are described are, general wear on hardware or light discoloration when you cannot see a zoomed in photo of what is being described. Because shipping is charged both ways, I won't buy something if I can't see EXACTLY what the description says. Pretty expensive if you bring things in and return a few times because you the condition is not as expected.
I sent to Mexico an order and I paid a efficient amount for it. When the package arrived I have to pay taxes who was as expensive as the order. It was not clear enough when I order that I will have to pay a taxes. It is written somewhere but you have to REALLY LOOK FOR IT!
It was very disappointing for such well known web site.
I consigned a size L jacket. It was marked as size S on the site. I notified TRR. It sold. Probably retutned by the buyer. I have another item for sale now which I feel is described poorly.
Easy to shop. Seamless and quick delivery. The store staff was amazing!
It appears that your site is charging sales tax on the original price of an item not on the amount of the discounted price. According to the law sales tax should be calculated on the discounted price paid. I suspect you owe your customers a lot of money.
The descriptions of clothing, shoes, jewelry, household goods has been very accurate. I've returned only a few things over the several years of being a RealReal buyer and that was due to the item not suiting me once I had the opportunity to try it on. The service has been good and timely. I love the sustainability model - something that someone no longer needs or wants is a delightful new addition to someone else's closet or home. I wish TheRealReal continued success!
They sold my luxury items for 4% NOT 40 % or 55% as advertised. They damaged most other clothes and sent them back filthy and ripped with tags off and so I can't sell them.
I have contacted the better business bureau.
They 100% ignore your emails and calls and desperate pleas to get your items back then you see that they sold them for super low prices and give you a few pennies.
HORRIBLE. This company owes me at least $2,000.
The gentleman who helped me was so kind and stayed on the phone until my issue was resolved
I've purchased and sold on the RealReal. The platform provides an opportunity to recoup some of the expense of previous purchases, and buying on The RealReal saves money. If you're a "season" snob, don't bother. But if you have your own style, there's great quality to be had at very low prices. Most importantly, "trading" clothing is environmentally responsible. Out with the old, in with the Old!
Great and quick shipping and quick return. The items I kept were in great condition
So far my experience has been great. I am both a consignor and a purchaser and my experience in both has been seamless. Thanks!
I've been a customer of TRR's for a few years now, and I can't get enough. One huge reason is because of their stellar customer service!
The service rep was very friendly and helped me solved the questions.
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
