Swappa generally enjoys a positive reputation for offering a reliable platform for buying and selling used electronics, with many users appreciating the thorough vetting of devices and the ease of transactions. However, significant concerns arise regarding customer service, particularly in response times and support during disputes, with numerous customers expressing frustration over unhelpful interactions and unresolved issues. Additionally, complaints about payment processing and discrepancies in product conditions highlight a need for improved communication and accountability. Overall, while many customers report satisfaction, the negative experiences suggest a critical need for enhanced customer support and service transparency.

While I have purchased numerous devices off swappa, I have fortunately never had a problem with the seller until my last purchase where they reset the device externally and didn't remove the Google account. When I couldn't get the owner to help me make it right swappa's response was you'll have to file a PayPal dispute. By this time I had the owners phone number and sent him a text indicating that if I did not hear from him that would be my next move. Shortly after we were able to make things right and all is well. This is a great place to find devices but there's not a whole lot the people of swappa can do to make sellers do things right other than to use PayPal and that gives us the ability to dispute a sale and protect ourselves. They do a good job of getting reasonably correct and honest listings with actual pictures of the device you're buying. I have bought some truly wonderful devices off swappa for both myself and others and will continue to do so. Just be aware any purchase may not be an out-of-the-box perfect situation.
Swappa is a wonderful service. I've bought three phones through them in the last two years, only one of which had a hiccup and it wasn't Swappa's fault. Their support is fast and helpful, the website layout is excellent and covers all the bases (lists all the different models of every phone so you know you're buying the right one) and it's as fast as can reasonably be expected. Their listing process is quite thorough which lends to its safety for both the seller and buyer, unlike certain other marketplaces (cough ebay cough). The only thing I wish they would do is run the MEID/IMEI of all listed devices through all of the most popular carriers (main & MVNOs) and give us some information about that. The last phone I bought, which is the only one I've had any issues with, wasn't able to be activated with the MVNO I originally wanted to use, but worked with another. If ANY information at all could be given about that, like literally just saying a phone is likely to work with X carrier not that it absolutely will, would be helpful. I understand that there may be some legal ramifications there but I think if done correctly they could pull it off without trouble on their side.
Anyways, Swappa is great, use it!
Hi Thomas, thanks for the thorough review! Thanks for using Swappa!
I purchased a slightly used iPad Pro 12.9 from a seller and received a great looking Product in return. The entire process was seamless and easy to use. Will reuse this site for future electronic purchases.
Hi Delana, great to hear you'll be back! Thanks for using Swappa :)
I am beyond serious that you should only buy your apple products here. Great deals on new or even used items. Total satisfaction is what swappa wants and for me, they gave it to me.
Bought a new IPad 6th Gen for just over two hundred. Yes it did have a slight bend on one side but I have the device in a case and can't see it anyway.
I'm telling everyone about swappa.
Hi Bill, thanks for spreading the word about Swappa!
This was a great way to purchase an updated phone for a reasonable price. Having a family of five, updating our phones is costly and usually, time-consuming. This was economical and very simple. Thank you, Swappa.
Hi Nicole, great to hear you're saving money with Swappa! Thanks for the review :)
This website is the real stuff! I bought a phone off of eBay and I was sorry to find out that the phone I purchased was black listed; that whole ordeal was not fun. Swappa on the other hand makes certain that its products are legit and are reliable to sell. Easy five star!
Hi Braedon, thanks for using Swappa! We are proud to offer a safer marketplace.
I bought a great phone at a good price and received it 2 days after ordering. I called Verizon to activate the phone and the rep asked where I got the phone. I was hesitant but told him Swappa and he said that is a great site and great place to go. Often they have people call to activate new phones that are locked or for a different network. He said Swappa does a great job.
Hey Ryan, thanks for using Swappa and for leaving a review!
This has been a great experience for me. I needed a reliable, quality phone but didn't want the 900$ flagship phone, a cheap prepaid phone or to take a risk with a used phone from an individual. Swappa is the perfect option for what I was looking for. I got a quality used phone for a great price, along with the peace of mind that what I bought was going to arrive as expected. Excellent overall, will use again!
Hi Sean, thanks for the awesome review - we hope you'll be back soon :)
I've used Swappa for a couple sales. Their process to get listed is a little thorough. If you miss the slightest thing, it will delay the process and you'll have to go back and forth with their customer service team. None of that is why I'm leaving this review.
I'm leaving this review because their customer service team is absolutely atrocious. In particular, I spoke with a Jon. He thought it was the right thing to do to cop an attitude over an email in regards to my frustration with non-direct instructions on what needed to be done to get a listing approved. I proceeded to respond back matching his tone. Then, after he antogonized, I snapped and requested being passed to a manager (Lucas). Lucas proceeded to contradict himself with every word as he said I was the one at fault here, not his terrible team member. So, with that said, I will never use this terrible company again.
This user was banned from using Swappa for personal attacks to our team members and for using profanity, even after we asked him to keep it professional. We have a strict 'no jerks' policy on Swappa, and we ban people like this to make the experience safer for our users.
I was a user of swappa for about three years, there were good and bad experiences. Unfortunately, the bad outweighed the good in my case. Over 1 year ago I had a falling out with a seller who shipped my phone to the wrong address ( I haven't been compensated for that $270 phone to this day) and because of that falling out my account was banned. I created an account about a week later and I was allowed to use swappa for over a year without issues until about one month ago when a seller provided a nonexistent tracking number for me and eventually went unresponsive. I brought up the issue to Swappa professionally without any hostility of any sort and they responded to me and told me to check with the seller again and if he doesn't respond then my only option would be to file a paypal claim. In other words they weren't taking any responsibility for what the seller did to me. When I returned to check on the progress of my sale I realized that they banned my new account and the account I had that was linked to my paypal account. When I asked what caused my accounts to be banned they said it was because of the issue I had with the other seller over a year ago. I had 5 active sales at the time and when I asked mr. "Lucas F" through Email how can I access the tracking numbers for my active sales my emails were ignored. The level of unprofessionalism and pettiness displayed the this company and their staff is beyond me. I Now use Ebay and I must say that they are a much more professional company than swappa and they actually care about their customers. If you value your hard earned money then stay away from this company.
Isaiah, we are always available to help. In fact, our support team is available 24/7/365 and normally responds within a few hours to answer any questions. You can email them at [email protected]. As we may have already told you, the best way to speed up the process is by calling PayPal and they can help you get a refund, typically much faster than in 30 days.
Got myself an iPhone X for a good price. Very nice community on there willing to answer your questions and there are always listings for a phone/tablet/laptop you might want. Would highly recommend buying from there!
Hi Mohamed, thanks for using Swappa!
Customer service refused to help me and won't respond to any of my emails. Everyone that works for this company is useless, arrogant, and unwilling to help anyone.
Our site is so "horrible" this user tried to create another account after we banned him the first time...
We proudly enforce a "no jerks" policy on Swappa so our users do not have to deal with people who are belligerent, don't follow rules, etc. This user was banned from our service before providing this ridiculous review. Thus we'll take this rare, completely unjustified review with pride.
We've used Swappa for two purchases in the past two months and each has been incredibly easy. One used iPhone for our oldest daughter and one barely used iPad Pro for work. Beats the pants off of the auction site.
Hi Ian, thanks for sharing your experience and for the great review!
Swappa may be great if you don't run into an issue, but they are basically useless if something happens. From my experience they take the buyers side or no side in any disagreement. I bought a phone and after a couple days the screen died on it I sent the phone back as per the buyers instructions. Then the buyer starts saying I broke the screen. I had previously asked if there was any proof other than the original picture I sent that the buyer wanted and they said nothing. Swappa also did not interject anything to help make sure that I was protected as a buyer. Then upon the phone arriving oh look at all these new cracks and now they won't refund my money. Needless to say Swappa took no responsibility and just told me to contact paypal and the shipper and everyone but them for help.
I would be very careful buying a phone off of here. If you look at all the 5 star reviews its basically all people that never had a problem or didn't actually have to deal with swappa directly
Scott, we're sorry to hear you had issues with the phone. We work hard to ensure no junk devices or stolen products are listed on Swappa. In the rare case that something goes wrong, we work with BOTH buyers and sellers to resolve the problem. Additionally, we partner with PayPal to ensure payments are made in a safe way, and that if the buyer receives a device that wasn't as listed, they are eligible for a refund through PayPal, not through Swappa. We are available 24/7 for assistance on the process and we are always happy to help - refunds however, must be handled through PayPal.
Product was exactly the way that it was supposed to be. Very pleased with swappa and the seller for this purchase. I will definitely come back to swappa in the future and would recommend it to anyone
Hi Zach, that's great to hear you'll be back! Thanks for using Swappa :)
I have used Swappa to purchase 4 Apple devices. Swappa is my go to site, it's straight forward and reliable. No junk and Customer Care is prompt. I would definitely recommend Swappa to anyone looking to purchase a device.
Hi Rachelle, thanks for the great review - and for using Swappa! We're glad to hear you'd recommend us.
Deal directly with eBay and PayPal... bec swaps end up telling u go get ur money back from PayPal. They do nothing to help u get back ur money.
Ali, we are proud to offer a service that protects our users - and our support team works with everyone who requests a refund. Different than eBay, we have no seller fees, our marketplace is powered by actual people (every listing is reviewed before it is approved to be on the site) and you are protected by PayPal. For more info on these protections: https://swappa.com/protections
It would take me quite a long time to point to every detail -- my phone was sold unlocked and although to me it was, it was a dual band phone and the buyer had trouble immediately connecting. We tried everything and the buyer seemed trustworthy.
It was baffling from start to finish. The buyer was offered a refund but then put in a dispute with PayPal but of course, he was refunded and hasn't sent the merchandise back. I have asked Joshua at swappa over and over to connect with this buyer and he completely ignores my communication. I would never use this site again.
Hi Nicole, we responded to the buyer today, urging them to return the device, as they said they would. The buyer has not been refunded. The money is simply tied up in the PayPal dispute until this is sorted out. Our support team is available 24/7 for any questions. Thank you for your patience during this process.
Please do not waste your time by interacting with Swappa customer service agents. Unfortunately I had to deal with a person named Patrick and he was suggesting me the ratings that I need to give to a seller when I have issues with my phone. I followed their review guideline but he was asking me to give a 3 stars to the seller. I had given 2 stars. Very rude behavior. Please never buy from here.
Hi Sam,
Like our support team mentioned, we provide guidelines on how to rate sellers - you can find them here: https://swappa.com/faq/answer/feedback_star_rating_guidelines. Your rating did not follow our guidelines, which was why we asked you to adjust your review. We are happy to assist with any questions or feedback you have - feel free to email us at [email protected]
I was sold a phone that was flagged lost or stolen. When I wrote a review on the seller about it, the site took the review down. Don't buy off of this site unless you want a nightmare.
Hi Elizabeth,
We provide guidelines on how to rate sellers. https://swappa.com/faq/answer/feedback_star_rating_guidelines. Your rating did not fit these guidelines, which was why it was taken down. Answer: Hi Neisha. Swappa is quite safe! Please see the 500+ reviews on this site referencing the safe and pleasant buying experience that is Swappa. Please email [email protected] if you have further questions. Thanks for using Swappa!
Answer: Hi Peggy. If you receive a device that is not as advertised then you can return it for a refund. Our policy is that simple. Swappa staff works hard to prevent problems from happening, and PayPal has extensive buyer protections in case they do. Buy with confidence. Thanks for using Swappa.
Answer: Hi Alfred, Swappa requires all users to provide the ESN number for each device when creating a listing as a verification step. For more questions, please email our support team - [email protected] Thanks!
Answer: Very safe, I've bought and sold over 40 phones using Swappa and have only had one problem... When that happened both Swappa and PayPal had my back.
Answer: Yes, you should remove and keep your SIM card when you sell your used phone. SIM cards are tied to your account, so are not transferable. More information and why in our FAQ: https://swappa.com/faq/sell/sim_card_included
Answer: Because they are scammers and a holes. They can't be bothered with you. Awful site. Use eBay instead.
Answer: Swappa guarantees it which goes above and beyond paypal. They are running IMEI checks and they do a great job. It's on you when you receive your phone to go through the phone check list to make sure it's good, checking cameras, microphones wfi, bluetooth, water damage check, things like that. Its really worry free buying.
Answer: Contact Swappa support. If an item is not as described by seller, the buyer is entitle to a refund.
Answer: Most sellers don't ship to African countries. This is because they include a reasonable fee on their prices to cover for shipping in the US, I guess shipping to Africa would come at a higher cost and they seem to be avoiding that for whatever reason. However, you can research and register for a freight forwarding company and have your orders shipped to them. In turn, these companies will forward your order to you when they receive it. As I pointed out before, this is something you have to read about and carefully consider. Hope that helps.
The place to buy and sell newish tech. Safety, simplicity and staff-approved listing make Swappa the better way to buy and sell used phones, tablets, laptops, video games, home tech and more.

Hi Ray, we partner with PayPal for situations like you described - to protect our users in case something with the device is not what was described. Our support team is available 24/7/365 to help with any questions and to guide users through the process of buying and selling. Glad to hear you bought some great devices, and we're happy you'll be back.
