I am a online business owner and I do not recommend stripe to anyone they holding money for stupid reasons. Then getting fraud cases on us and they are acting like it is my business is the reason for the fraud. They will not do anything about it even with proof of customers.
I was a newly costumer using their service, everything was great until one day i've received an email saying that i havent respect their rules, that i've use someone's card without their consent. BUT how is it possible if i am selling products where people order and pay with their own card. I dont send any invoice! Isn't STRIPE suppose to insure security payment? GUESS NOT! I've tried by many ways to make my point to them, saying that i am loyal, that all my client who ordered on my website received their product. They didn't have ANYTHING to explain to me except that they no longer can take payment for my website and that my website is a HIGH RISK of fraud! I am selling hair by the way! FINE i've accepted but i had a 525$ pending from their end. I was waiting to receive my last payments. Everyday i was checking to see when was i willing to receive my payment and the transfer date was kept on pushing back! I've wrote several messages to them trying to reach to someone to ask for my money back. NEVER ANSWERED! UNTIL i figured out that they decided to REIMBURSE the clients who have made their payment into my website without knowing and didn't advise me about it. Mean that the client got away with FREE products now. ALL THAT MONEY WAS MY INVESTMENT... now i've lost a part of it... I DO NOT recommend this crap. I will never refer someone to them! They stole from me and they are NOT RIGHT!
So long story short my bank account was closed and I did not update anything because I did not know Wells Fargo randomly closed my account a stripe payment in the amount of 9484 shows that it was sent anyways somehow and when I contacted Wells Fargo they said there is no way money would have made it to that account because it is closed you need to talk to Stripe. I got g er Eric responses like we understand your frustration. They were telling me that when the money arrived that account was still open even though on my end I know exactly when my account was closed and that is not so. Finally like on my second or third rap explaining myself over he decided to question my attitude I said exactly I am frustrated and I'm not getting anywhere with you guys except the runaround he decided to keep his attitude up on the phone with me getting into a brief argument I said I am the customer here just trying to get my money back... little would you think about an hour later I get an email telling me something totally different and basically now my money is in transit to the correct account but I feel like if I did not say anything I would have lost on $100.
I wrote a review previously about Stripe ( negative like the rest). Anyone interested in a class action lawsuit? Looks like they are as crooked as it gets and they just keep getting away with it.
I don't recommend this service at all- before opening our account we contacted customer service several times about our business. After the first week they said we were high risk and said that they were going to refund our clients (7 clients $7,500). I have never heard of anything like this, nevertheless it is what it is. We have had to contact Support everyday with no answer finanally they put 6 of our payments for refunds schedule for 5-10 business days. One of the refunds has not been processed and I have contacted support everyday with no response. HEY STRIPE WE NEED OUR CUSTOMERS LAST PAYMENT REFUNDED SO WE CAN TALK TO OUR CUSTOMER ABOUT PAYING FOR A SERVICE WE HAVE ALREADY PROVIDED.
I personally have never had issues with stripe directly, however when trying to integrate it into a 3rd part i ran into issues. Its a good payment processor but they need better support for sure
I made the mistake of using this company as an alternative to Paypal. BIG MISTAKE! I sell online webinars and educational material through a membership subscription. Once my membership got over 500 they started to hold my payouts. It took many many inquires just to find out that they considered my business HIGH RISK although I have almost no disputes)Other than a mysterious fraud charge that they appear to be used as the reason to hold my money.
They will continually tell you that they are checking into it and they understand your frustration. Talking to serval different customer service reps (through email because this 45 billion dollar company (Valuation) does not have a phone number you can call into) they all give the same generic response. Currently, they are holding over 12,000.00 of my money. I gave them free membership to check the account out and nothing but radio silence. These people are thieves.
The Better Business Bureau is being inundated with complaints about their business practices and they give the same generic answers there as well. Check it out for yourself:

Everything that you are reading about this company in the reviews is true. They are a shady company that will rear its ugly head once they can steal your money. I have lodged a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and currently laying the groundwork to file a civil action against them in Federal Court. This is the only thing that will get their attention once they have enough lawsuits lodged against them. Stay away from this company if you are a startup. Paypal is a much safer choice no matter what issues they may have.
Their customer service is TRASH! This is my professional opinion. They appear to be stealing money and making interests off it to offset something, I'm not sure. My intuition tells me this is a crooked company. DO NOT pay attention to any of the positive articles on the internet. Check the Federal Trade Commission and BBB if you want the truth.
Stripe will wear stripes one day. Predicated on siphoning off of anyone regardless if it's a client or a small business owner, service provider...
Stripe basically dip their hands in your pockets, even when a transaction has not gone through... I would steer clear from them.
We had to refund some clients payments as they came into strip yet strip are still trying to charge us $1600. 00 for a transaction that hasn't gone through.
I opened my account to charge a card, they took 100 dollars from a 2500 payment. That includes a 25 dollar registration fee? I understood that first charge, still a lot though. I finally received the money 10 days later. Charge the same client 2500 and they took another 100 including the registration fee again. Said it would be on hold for another 10 days. WTH. I gave a refund to my client after speaking with chat. During the conversation they told me because my account is not a US account. I asked what they meant because I am in the US, my client is in the US. They could not explain it. I am now being charged the same fee 97.80 even though I refunded it. They are steeling money from me. Wow! I beg anyone who reads this never to use stripe, ever.
Consumer here giving a heads up to businesses considering using stripe: DON'T. I have had NUMEROUS issues every. Single. Time. I try to buy something online from a merchant that uses stripe. Every. Single, Time. Multiple businesses have lost money from me by not being able to process payments coz they use this ghetto $#*! merchant. It's disgusting they are so universally used with such a shoddy product!
Stripe is the most painful way if you would like to start your own online business as the support is the worst in the world.
I did the mistake to ask a difficult question regarding the new SCA (Strong Customer Authentication).
They did not even respond to my question and closed my account without any reason.
This is not how you should treat your customers.
Therefore, never ever again with Stripe, bad vibes, bad company.
So to sum up:
DO NOT USE STRIPE FOR YOUR START UP. STRIPE SUCKS!
Hope this can help you to avoid the error I did.
If you are already running Stripe: DO NEVER EVER CONTACT THEIR SUPPORT;-)
I signed up for stripe and within 2 weeks i process my first six payments right before my payout date they decided to hold my money. I emailed them just for them to tell me that they don't process payments for stores selling electronics. I ship out a few phones and a laptop now i'm out of thousands of dollars and the merchandise has already been shipped!
We are shop owners and had two sales reversed by stripe for over £2500. We sent out parcels for Orders. But then then customers say the item is faulty. Stripe immediately reversed the payment even without checking with us first. We lost these 5 products and lost the money resulting in total of £4000 lost as we didn't get the products back after the complaint was made. Stripe immediately takes a customers side and the retailer loses all this money. We have had enough of them and moving to new service. If you're a retailer don't use stripe they don't care about you losing your products and losing your sale money.
We are honest reputable company Smithers of Stamford. It's just shocking that stripe automatically takes the customer side and refunds without even giving us time to submit proof. One order was 3 months ago we disputed and we've sent over proof of shipping with DPD. We still did not get this money back. Be very aware of stripe if your a shop. The service is fraudulent sometimes.
Stripe say the customer is always right and don't protect the retailer
Those f*$ckers closed my account and refunded every payment i had in it for absolutely no reason. I had 0 refunds everything was a 100% good... I tried to contact them for over a month with no answer
Do not use this service for your card processing under any circumstances. I have a stripe account that has not been used for at least a year and a half. Bank account attached is closed as well. Someone breached my account, changed the bank account, password and email address. I started calling and e-mailing stripe on Friday and nobody got back to me until Wednesday. Meanwhile, the hackers have been charging stolen card numbers and stripe actually release a portion of what they had charged to the thieves on the day they called me. They will not close down my account until I attach an active bank account to my Stripe account. I think their plan is to try and take the money back from me that they paid out to the thieves. They are threatening me with sicking collectors on me even though I received no money. With all of the negative scam reviews and how they are handling this I believe the company is somehow in on this scam. They have no fraud department no way to get ahold of them (they don't answer their phone number and it was 6 days before I heard from them. I am filing complaints with the Attorney general in both my state and California where they are, the BBB, and the consumer financial protection bureau. I also spoke with the FBI today and gave a report and they also referred me to the Secret Service. Anyone that gets scammed by them should file a report with the FBI so stripe can be stopped.
I was supposed to get payouts daily through the scooter company that I work for instead it takes several days for me to get paid can we say litigation attorneys I will continue adding to this review everybody grab their sodas and their popcorn the story could get juicy to be continued...
I joined Stripe thinking that they'd offer a similar service to Paypal. Within one week of using Stripe, having transacted about $100 - they email me that they'll be "reserving" 50% of my funds for 3+ months. Secondly, after attempting to upload my driver's licence and passport - their system shows failed within 1 minute whenever trying to upload photo ID's. I'm currently reaching out to the NAB Bank of Australia in regards to their "50% reserve" policy for new accounts and the fact they are not properly collecting identifications for new users.
Stripe is extremely difficult to use platform. Based on my brief experience with the Stripe customer service rep., Emerald today. I got the arrogant and rude treatment from her. She refused to explore solution to my issue and told me that is Stripe's business model. If I don't comply then go away! I gladly did.
I have been a long IT career professional. Never in my long career of over 40 years, I would treatment a client/user with arrogance and rudeness acting as Stripe is the only best platform in the world. That is so arrogant of a no name company like Stripe. Never I would give any business to Stripe. In technology world, there's always something better around corner. Stripe is a legacy and an unwise company. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. UNLESS YOU WISH TO LOSE YOUR MONEY AND BE SCAMMED COMPLYING WITH THE REQUIREMENTS TO PROVIDE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT. OTHER PLATFORM AND BIG FINANCIAL INSTITUITIONS DON'T REQUIRE IT. IT'S SAD THAT SO MANY UNKNOWING BUSINESSES ALL VICTI OF THEIR SCAM.
I have escalated my case for a Stripe supervisor to call me as I was told. I am just not waste my time to help Stripe improve their business.
We are a large e-commerce website operating for 3 years via Shopify Payments. Recently, we switched to Stripe.
We average about $150,000 in sales per month. This is about 4,500 transactions.
Because we received a few chargebacks, and I mean around 10 (it will happen no matter what) they put all our funds on hold for 90 days.
They legally stole from us, and we have no power at all because they point to their TOS and say its in the fine print.
The cash flow was stopped literally overnight, and now I have to figure something out to pay 10 employees, satisfy pending orders on my own dime (over 2,000 orders), pay credits, and deal with thousands of customer complaints.
I will get through this with God and all will be well, regardless of the tremendous pressures.
Do. Not. Ever. Use. Stripe Payments if you are a serious seller. They will legally take your food and spit on your face.
However, I am in contact with my Ministry of Finance and I will legally strip Stripe Payments of every single dollar they have.
PS: They are not payment processors. They are aggregators, and thats why they do such acts. They are the middle man - taking money from here and putting it there, due to their banking relations. Just like Paypal. It's ILLEGAL for them to take part in these actions of holding reserves, because they are posing as a bank, which theyre not.
Good luck with your business guys!
Answer: Hi Jon, I'm sorry that you're having trouble with disputes -- they can be frustrating! Unfortunately, when your customer initiates a dispute with their bank, it's the bank that begins an investigation and makes the determination on who gets to keep the funds -- and often times, they do favor the customer. This process is facilitated by credit card networks, but Stripe helps with this process by submitting evidence that you provide, such as tracking numbers. Although we can't make disputes go away, we do try our best to make them a bit easier to manage. As a bit of background on how the dispute process works, the minute that we learn about a dispute from your cardholder's bank, the funds and an additional fee are taken out of our account. In the event that you're able to win a dispute, we return the full amount of the charge and the fee to you, though the fee that we are assessed is not returned to us by the bank. We return that fee because we feel strongly that businesses shouldn't be penalized for disputes that are resolved in their favor. Because it is expensive for us to return those fees in instances were the dispute is resolved in the business's favor, we aren't able to return the fees at other times. In addition, since disputes are a forced refund by the cardholder’s bank and not a voluntary one on your part, you remain responsible for the processing fees for the initial transaction. It can be tricky for even experienced businesses to understand how to handle a dispute, so we've spent time documenting the various circumstances under which a payment can be disputed, and how best to handle each -- I'd recommend taking a look at https://stripe.com/help/disputes to learn more. Please also take a look at https://stripe.com/help/disputes#how-can-i-prevent-disputes to learn more about preventing disputes. I hope this helps shed some light on our approach here. Again, I'm sorry that dealing with disputes are frustrating. Stripe actively dedicates resources to making this problem better and, over time, go away entirely. We can certainly look into your account and these specific disputes, if you'd like, if you send us a message at https://support.stripe.com/email.
Answer: These are the most significant crooks in the industry but they will get what they deserve I joined a group how will exposed there behavior. It is impossible that they can keep on operating and not get arrested
