2 years ago I had a $3200 chargeback. Stripe authorized the purchase, but when push came to shove, they quickly realized they messed up, and I lost $3200. They also kept the $100 fee as an added bonus for their incompetence. Yesterday, I had another charge come through for $2955. It reeks of fraud, so I contacted Stripe to let them know. They assured me the payment was OK, but I know it is not, and because it smells really fishy, I wanted to refund the transaction. Thats when I learned they would keep their $86 fee, again, even though the charge was fraudulent, and also learned they would tap into my bank account as needed to do the refund, so in short, I would have had to cover a $6K float. Switching service this week or next... there have to be better providers out there that are equally expensive... cant imagine there'd be one that is worse but we'll see. Probably going to Square.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT!
I have been waiting for an answer for over a week now, and they're promising to answer in under 24hours.
They locked my account WITH NO REASON! I have submitted my legal business information to them too. AVOID THEM! DO NOT LET THEM HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS
Opened an account less than a month ago. Made 3 sales and on the 2nd one, they claimed that charge was fraudulent when customer clearly told us that they approved everything with their bank.
Stripe in return refunds ALL the transactions WITHOUT warning AND KEEPS THE TRANSACTION FEES even after refunding.
Stay the heck away from these crooks. They will wait until you get large transactions in your account and find a way to steal your money while disabling your account. Its been 2 weeks and one of the transactions still have not been refunded yet they have chipped their fees from their final balance while they hold it there. They will not send it to you either.
100x Worse than PayPal. Never thought i would say that.

I hosted a running event, and entrants registered online and paid a fee that was managed by Stripe. During the registrations, leading up to the event, they dribbled the fees into my bank account. The event has been over a week, and they owe me $1400. 00 yet. I've had many communications with them, and get a bunch of double talk. Where's my money? I ask for the entire amount and I get $50 or $100.00. I think they want to hang on to the funds to earn interest off of it. Very disreputable and I don't recommentd anyone using them.
Do not expect any help if you get stuck with issues. Noone to talk to, worst customer service I've experienced
They guys take your money and hold it forever LEGALLY. $#*!ING RUN. Please don't get scammed like everyone else Stripe is not worth it and should not even be open. I did not read reviews and started a business first sale they kept everything never paid out so if you want to run a business or do anything that works don't $#*!ing use Stripe PLEASE for everyone's sake.
I had several accounts for several e-shops. All of them are very similar, only for different markets. Now they terminated one of my accounts with no reason. I tried to contact support team several times, but they just don't answer to my emails. It's frustrating. If they would just give me some sort of explanation, some kind of option to correct it, anything. They just don't answer to my emails and messages. And there's no phone number to call them. It costed me 100 € to integrate gateway that is now terminated for no reason.
I'm very disappointed. Just use another platform.
If you want to issue your customers a refund, because they bought the wrong item or they change their mind, STRIPE WILL KEEP 2.9% OF EVERY TRANSACTION AND REFUND.
IF YOU HAVE A HIGH PROFIT MARGIN or don't allow refunds, maybe you are ok, but if your customer ever files a chargeback, STRIPE WILL IMMEDIATELY DEDUCT ALL PAYMENT, PLUS THE 2.9% FEE AND ADDITIONAL $15 CHARGEBACK FEE.
ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS, A DOUBLE CHARGE WAS PROCESSED AND AFTER ISSUING A SINGLE REFUND, STRIPE ALSO RETAINS THE 2.9% FEE CLAIMING IT THE DOUBLE CHARGE IS NOT DUE TO THEM.
STAY AWAY FROM STRIPE! SOFTWARE DOESN'T WORK AND STRIPE STEAL AND LIE. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.
I am a merchant and used Stripe via BigCommerce. There was a bug where Stripe sent funds to another email account. Even though I own the domain Stripe will not help me to access the funds. This was the fault of BigCommerce and Stripe and yet it has been impossible to get any help. They have stolen my funds. The customer service said several times they will call me back but they never do. I hear this company is going public?!
I tried to change the account owner from my employee to myself (CEO) after the employee left and had a miserable time trying to do so. After providing all information including personal information, 3 hours on the phone, and verifications, I thought it was fixed. BUT, it still didn't work on my website. After 2 more days of being incapacitated from taking orders because of some high level of risk (which no one would explain to me), I'm still off line from taking orders. This is a terrible service. No phone number to call, no live chat, no satisfaction, will change to a better service.
Stripe stopped paying saying there is a security concern. Fine. No problem but we CAN NOT get them to talk with us to resolve. They send an email once a week with zero resolution. Zero calls. We are a small company and we are now 4 weeks without payment.
In just a few months, and as a merchant, I have been frauded by two dishonest customers because Stripe failed to represent me, has the gall to charge me an extra $15 for losing the dispute (even though I provided clear documentation of the customer's order and clear info via tracking that the customer is lying). Also dishonestly failed to tell me about arbitration. They also had the gall to tell me I could get fraud protection if I agree to raise every single transaction fee from 2.7% to 3.2%. So that clearly says there is NO protection against fraud from Stripe in the first place. The most dishonest company I have ever worked with. I will be researchimg to find a better credit card processor.
DONT EVEN TRY THEM. I signed up with them in Feb 2021 and linked with my site. I received my first order using STRIPE and when it comes to payout (after some days) they said we need more info. I took pic of my passport several time but their automated system couldnt accept that. So i wrote to their support team and they send me same link for verification and very next day they sent me email that we can no longer work with you. I said ok fine, you can refund the customer to his card and they sent me email that it will take 5 to 7 working days and i was ok with that. After that time period customer showed up on my shop and started yelling on me. I had to offer him some discount on the products and asked him to wait further 5 days and still if he dont gets it then talk to bank. In the meanwhile i wrote couple of emails to STRIPE asking to refund the customer but everytime i got just automated reply that we will get backto you. Now today 27th Mar 2021 i got an email that customer claimed the chargeback and they are trying to impose chargeback fee on me! I will spread my words about STRIPE everywhere possible.
Our very first transaction made through our Stripe account, they emailed us to say they were refunding the customer, GBP99. It's now 6 weeks since the payment left the payee's account, Stripe simply kept the payment, it did not come to us and Stripe have not honoured their word! This is not a professional company and they can not be TRUSTED! Would you let them handle GBP1000 or GBP*******... Stay away from these common thieves.
I'm prompted to write this review, because in my dealings with Stripe I've always received excellent and prompt service. Both via the online chat system and with followup emails from support.
We integrate our application via their API for Subscriptions with Direct Debit and Credit Card payment options. My queries tend to be very technical in nature, and all of them have been resolved to my satisfaction.

They let you open the door to your business, they sit at the front door, and take all your payments.
My business runs mostly on tourists, so we are struggling, we need to think outside the box and be innovative. So we tried Stripe, we can connect with our customer base, and maybe new ones. So we are doing ok, money comes in and is spent fulfilling the transaction.
Ok, lets think back to when you were at school, you remember the school bully, he stood at the gate and took your dinner money. Then when dinner time comes there is no money, so there is no dinner.
Well I am feeling like that now. I left school in 1968 and last week the bully came back.
I am astonished by how they have taken my money. I feel I am being mugged every time I look in my Stripe Dashboard and see they have refunded all of an account. None of my customers have even raised an eyebrow let alone an issue. Then another day, another account refunded, no reason, no irate customers. And then another, and yesterday a fourth one emptied.
So the bully is still at the school gate, will he leave when all of my almost £******* has gone, probably, because he will come and stand at your gate next.
Just imagine, you hire a new till and a till operator, to help your business. He comes along and takes the payments as customers pay, he smiles and takes the money. Then, after being there for a few days, he has gone and so has the till. So you call him and say can I have my money please? His reply? Sorry but my name is Stripe, when you hired us there was some small print and it says we can do what we like with YOUR money.
What is wrong with this world. My customers are happy. They do not need a contract and small print and boxes of stars to tick for good service. They are our customers, we are honest, my word is good. If there is an issue we fix it, we look after our customers.
I am not of this new age, of corporate miss-management, where lawyers write pages of incomprehensible terms and conditions.
Sadly I just thought they were honest, because they are a financial business. It is surely a prerequisite of a financial business that they are honest, moral and have a dash of integrity? Well it seems not to be so.
Ok my mistake, you can now lie and cheat your customers, because you put that in the small print.
Is that how they sleep at night? It's in the terms and conditions they should have read it properly.!
We never heard of Stripe until the sent our company a 1099K. We never set up an account with Stripe and tried, unsuccessfully to find out who set up the account in our company name. Stripe went above and beyond to protect the fraudulent party. We were told that we would have to file a report with consumer fraud and our local police department, which we did. After submitting both reports to Stripe they gave us a generic letter to send to the IRS. They will not give us the name of the person who set up the fraudulent account or tell us where the funds reported on the 1099K were sent. They are extremely difficult to deal with.
They are treating me as a criminal. I had to use this service to accept a payment from a client with his AMEX card. They made it look nice and easy, everything confirmed, payment successful, the money was DEBITED FROM THE CLIENT ACCOUNT. And then I get an email that my company doesn´t comply with their terms and conditions and the payment will be refunded within 5-7 days. WHAT THE HELL? This is illegal and unacceptable! How can you do this? How this makes me look? I want to sue for this fraud and scam and illegal withhold of money!
Answer: Hi Jon, I'm sorry that you're having trouble with disputes -- they can be frustrating! Unfortunately, when your customer initiates a dispute with their bank, it's the bank that begins an investigation and makes the determination on who gets to keep the funds -- and often times, they do favor the customer. This process is facilitated by credit card networks, but Stripe helps with this process by submitting evidence that you provide, such as tracking numbers. Although we can't make disputes go away, we do try our best to make them a bit easier to manage. As a bit of background on how the dispute process works, the minute that we learn about a dispute from your cardholder's bank, the funds and an additional fee are taken out of our account. In the event that you're able to win a dispute, we return the full amount of the charge and the fee to you, though the fee that we are assessed is not returned to us by the bank. We return that fee because we feel strongly that businesses shouldn't be penalized for disputes that are resolved in their favor. Because it is expensive for us to return those fees in instances were the dispute is resolved in the business's favor, we aren't able to return the fees at other times. In addition, since disputes are a forced refund by the cardholder’s bank and not a voluntary one on your part, you remain responsible for the processing fees for the initial transaction. It can be tricky for even experienced businesses to understand how to handle a dispute, so we've spent time documenting the various circumstances under which a payment can be disputed, and how best to handle each -- I'd recommend taking a look at https://stripe.com/help/disputes to learn more. Answer: These are the most significant crooks in the industry but they will get what they deserve I joined a group how will exposed there behavior. It is impossible that they can keep on operating and not get arrested
