If I could give negative stars I would. They take payment, then hold your money on a variety of excuses for months... how to run a business when they take your funds, how to pay staff, how to operate?

This company should be shut down.

We had turn over with Stripe of 2.1M USD during last 1.5 year. On Saturday our account was closed without further notice, during sales season. We had been blamed of infringing upon, or facilitate the infringement of, the intellectual property, while we are selling only original brand products, we have right to sell in UK and European Union. Stripe was already discussing with us this issue earlier, and few months ago we did resolved it successfully, now they re-voke this issue again and blocked account 1 day after black Friday. Many sales lost, they also blocked us possibility to contact with them by the phone or the chat. If this happened to us, can happen with everybody.

EDIT: We've been verified for the same issue by the Stripe.com twice - on April and may 2020. And we had verified that time we are eligible. Now they closed our account in the peak of the season, after black Friday and 2 days before cyber Monday. It's an incredible coincidence

I looking at opening a viable online business, avoid Stripe altogether as scammers seem to flock to Stripe because the buyer can file a claim and Stripe will just refund their money without any requirement to even return anything. What a deal for Stripes scammers though. They can purchase an item and doesn't even attempt to look out for sellers so the buyer keeps the item and gets a refund besides. It was my mistake to give Stripe a try in addition to the other payment processor I have been using for decades. It also only took one transaction to realize Stripe isn't even a legitimate processor that can be trusted. If you want to be profitable you should not risk your profits because of the incompetence of a processor like Stripe.

When I started my podcast at Anchor six months ago I was given an option to set up monetization via ad revenue accrued every time my podcast is played with a recorded ad. When I set up my account with Stripe which is the payment service for the accrued revenue, I gave a phone number for their two-step verification process. My phone number had since changed, so I contacted a support specialist to resolve this issue on October 27th. Nineteen emails (with various specialists who all mastered the art of being vague), one chat session and two phone calls later, I was told on the second phone call (which I might add they must call you as opposed to the opposite, which is funny because they will not answer if you call them, anyway) that my phone number was updated and it would be a few hours to complete within their system, this was on Friday, October 29th. My phone number wasn't actually updated until 5 days later which was exactly one week after my initial contact on October 27th. I grew so incredibly frustrated with Stripe that I asked Anchor to just terminate my Stripe Account. My complaint was a simple phone number change. I feel bad for everyone here that was screwed monetarily.

I don't know why people use this. Paypal is 100% better is all ways. Whenever you cannot talk to a live person, you should know you're going to have trouble at some point and have trouble getting it resolved. Paypal has been great for over 20 years. They answer their phones. I've had 1000's of transactions through Paypal with ONE problem since 1998. This company is Internet based with NO PHONE SUPPORT. Good luck with that. You realize the Internet will go down for an extending period one of these days, could be tomorrow or in many years, but it will happen. Good luck getting your money then. Their customer service emails are incredibly nice, I'll say that about them, other companies could learn a lot about whomever trained their customer support people. But if you have a problem that they can't solve, you are sh*t out of luck.

Refunds are bad
October 15, 2021

When you do refunds, they take all of your transaction fees. No cap. Watch out for refunds. Even if it is customer fault or even the same day, they charge you all of the transaction fees.

I paid my mechanic. Stripe did not pay the mechanic. Stipe said mechanic's transactions not enough money, cancelled ac count and informed mechanic they would refund the monies to my account. 60 days later, NO REFUND TO MY ACCOUNT and NO PAYMENT TO MECHANIC. STRIPE IS USING OTHERS MONIES FOR THEIR OWN GAIN AND UNJUSTLY ENRICHING THEMSELF. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT NEEDS TO FILED AGAINST STRIPE.

BEWARE
September 29, 2021

BEWARE - Stripe can place a reserve on your account without knowledge, where that will hold YOUR funds paid by YOUR clients for up to 120 days.
This has happened to us today, we cannot access funds that Stripe have been holding of ours for the last 2 months. We contacted Stripe to ask why they hadn't paid us our funds.
Apparently we are in an risky industry where clients may want to dispute their payments (we are a plumbing business), so they review all accounts & if they feel it is a risky business where clients may want to dispute their payment, Stripe will hold funds just incase a client of ours wants a refund.
We have never had a dispute & we give our clients a 7 day payment term after all plumbing works have been completed.
We have removed Stripe from our payment services & will be closing our account as soon as we are able to access OUR money.

STRIPE IS THE WORST
September 29, 2021

If you are considering using stripe, then let me make i easy for you, stripe is the worst payment gateway so far, DO NOT USE IT. You will cry your head out after making 1 or 2 payouts on your account. They will block your account with no clue as to what the issue is, worst customer support so far.
If there was a way for me to rate them -1 star, Trust me I would. I wish you never make thesame mistake as I did, never use stripe, if you think I'm just bluffing, then make a good research about stripe, read their reviews and you will understand what I'm saying.

I definitely would not recommend Stripe!
Being with them for 2 years we experienced, money loss on several occasions.
Funds are simply vanishing from balance and despite of phone calls, numerous chats and emails problems are left unresolved. Once you lost your funds that is it! Don't rely on their unprofessional customer's support, they are totally lost, with no skills whatsoever! You will get standart response whilst problem will be left aside. They are never responsible for anything,"our hands are tie we have limited role" this is what you are going to hear... all this bul$#*!. BE AWARE!

Horrible company…Credit card processing company Stripe wasted over 11 hours of my time and refused to give me $240.57 USD only and specifically because of an internal issue between Stripe and the credit card holder's bank. Stripe apologized 100 times and acknowledged the problem with purely an internal one between them and the bank…nothing to do with me or the person who paid by credit card. Nonetheless, Stripe would not give me the money despite an email from Stripe saying I would receive the money within so many days. So basically, there was an internal issue and rather than give me the money as they promised via email, instead they gave me the run-around for weeks saying they would try to resolve the internal issue and get back to me. Don't bother with Stripe. Horrible…

A stripe manager called me back a few days ago and acknowledged that they messed up and failed on multiple layers with this lockout Stripe still however refused to change the "sign up phone number" on our account which is unknown to us. If we have an issue again, they will continue to call a dead number we don't have access to. It is "their unchangeable internal policy" even after going through five days of verifying who I am. They offered no form of compensation until I pushed the subject three times. Their employee "Dee" who was a lead on my account will be "corrected" on the issue for the future.

They have several days later now offered us $5,000 worth of processing for free, which is around $140 of value. The damages, reputation issues, and cash flow issues from their incompetence easily result in over $10,000 in damages. I pushed back on them again and they raised that to $7,500 in processing for free or around $200 in value. That covers our processing fees for 1-2 days. It's an insult.

I am deeply displeased with this company, their absolutely absurd internal processes, and illogical policies. Your business and ours is at risk in their hands. I continue to strongly recommend seeking elsewhere with Square or any other service, even the ultra evil Paypal.

I contacted stripe about an unknown login in las vegas. Stripe promised they would investigate what happened during that session. I then follow up three days later and ask what's going on, stripe said they were working on it. 11 days after I reached out about the initial unauthorized access, stripe locks me out of my account, freezes access to all of my funds, and refuses to give me access back to my account for unknown reasons.

They requested arbitrary "verification documents" which I provided. They stated great this works, when can we call you to resolve this? I gave them a time. They emailed me the next day and said "we need these additional arbitrary documents" and did not call me. I provided those documents.

We have now been over 72 hours without our account, they are still taking customer payments and have provided no transparency as to what is going on with our account, where our money is if cards that are processing are valid nothing. They have over $20,000 in funds held hostage and the best part of it all is the only way for me to get them on the phone is to call them via a separate account I created just to deal with this issue.

Run far, run fast. Paypal has terrible service but is far superior to this insanity. Go to Square, go to anyone else.

I have a small startup for health consulting. We are a team of doctors that do not practice medicine but only offer healthy lifestyle consulting through our app.

Stripe decided to classify us as telemedicine and demanded, over and over, licensing that is not required for consulting.

I explained that they were confused, that we were not a telemedicine company. We do not prescribe any medicine or prescriptions of any kind.

Stripe refused to communicate with me on this and instead wholely denied service.

I think this is really disgusting behavior. Chronic disease is at an all-time high, people are struggling financially, we have a whole team of doctors eager to help for very affordable prices.

Stripe clearly does not understand the laws but doesn't care about the customers, they care about their vested interests.

Boycott this terrible fascist company.

We were excited to implement stripe.com in our site as they provide good APIs for software developers. The integration was smooth and we were up and running in a short time. Once we started using Stripe for credit card transactions, we quickly discovered a huge problem with their service. Here is what happened:
One of our clients accidentally double charged their credit card when they ordered one of our products. I am not sure how they did this, but they contacted us to report that they have a duplicate charge on their credit card statement. Of course we immediately refunded one of the charges via Stripe online console. This worked fine, but we noticed that Stripe did not refund us the 2.9% credit card transaction fee when the payment was refunded. In our case, this was a considerable $116 fee. When we contacted Stripe about this, they had a canned response that states that their policy is to keep your transaction fee even if the payment was refunded!
Think about this from a merchant point of view for a second. Not only you have to pay Stripe 2.9% of all sales you process via their service, but also you have to pay them 2.9% of sales you DID NOT make! Its not enough that you lost the sale, profit, and maybe shipping fee and got an open box as a result of the return / refund, but also you are getting penalize by Stripe for the refund!
Refunds are normal part of the credit card business, and for Stripe to penalize its client for it is outrageous. Other merchant accounts companies we used in the past did NOT do this. Rather, they refunded all the fees and only charged us $0.30 (30 cents) transaction fee for the refund. That was it. They did not keep 2.9% of the sale amount.
Needless to say, we are shopping for a different credit card processing company. We are totally disappointed with Stripe and the fact that we wasted so much of our time implemented their lousy service.

Apalling
July 13, 2021

18 months of a solid experience, very low chargeback rate with millions of $ in revenue and even allowed us to move to daily payouts. We launched in the USA with a bit of a rocky start and an increase chargeback rate, from one day to the other Stripe - Arlene Hughes froze our account with $250.000 in there which are desperately needed to pay for our overheads as a non-funded extremely fast-growing startup. We have supplied dozens of supporting documents proving the strong financial position the company and the founder are in and showing the previously excellent performance of my company. Despite this they continue to freeze our funds without a clear answer on when they will be released. We have offered for Stripe to freeze 100.000 and release the rest back to us but even this has been ignored. Currtly being escalated through court. Having to protect your company is completely understandable, however the way you have dealt with us after any precious issues/warnings is absolutely appalling and will directly put people out of a job. Disgusting.

Worse thing ever
July 6, 2021

This is the worse customer support and experience I've had with any payment or retail company! They fail to follow up and we start again every time. They provide misleading and false information in order to get rid of you. Due to lack of incompetence and attention to detail I am waiting on a payment through Stripe for over a month now and the transfer date changes every day. They shall not exist. Super useless.
