They froze my funds for no reason and wouldn't give them back. But gave me the green light to continue accepting payments from customers. After multiple attempts of trying to get my money back with no success I filed a complaint with the BBB better business bureau. The very next day my account was unfroze and my money returned. I should of started at the bbb from the beginning of all this mess. I'd stay away from stripe too if you can. We just started using Costco 3rd party payment processing. Customer service has been 5 star and processing rates are 1% cheaper. Thank god for the BBB better business bureau. Without them our money would of been gone forever.

You don't matter to them

I've used square for my business for the past 2 years. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been processed and then all of a sudden my account was put under review(okay nothing crazy), and during the process Square has withheld my funds. It has been 18 days and tens of thousands of dollars are hanging around in the ether while they look at the information I sent them. When trying to get ahold of someone it was difficult. Their support page has options of "messaging them", "asking for a call" (currently unavailable), "email them" or "ask the community". All of these options are out of service right now, as in, when you click on them, absolutely nothing happens. When I finally dug up their phone number to see what the hold up was, I was told, "sorry sir, there's no one you can talk to. Just wait for an email." I'm not upset with the rep herself, she was just doing her job, but you can tell the company is setup to defer customer service requests and grow without supporting the people currently using them. I'm not going to sit here and belabor the point to an employee that cannot help me, and square knows that.

If you need something quick and convenient to get a small starter business off the ground, they're not a bad option. As soon as you think its going to take off, go with someone else.

Our small business relied on Square for over four years, processing tens of thousands in sales. Then, one day, they decided to hold over $4,000 in payments being processed. They then proceeded to deactivate our account for absolutely no reason, citing that, per their General Terms of Service, they can drop us at any time for any or no reason. I called several times, had a couple of ongoing email threads. NOTHING. No reason given, zero support provided. This company does NOT have their customer's best interests at heart and openly preys on small businesses who can't fight back.

USE A DIFFERENT SERVICE

Chat support is absolutely useless.
Phone support regularly hangs up on you.
Managers do nothing but take notes...
Features are lack luster even if you are paying for all their extras.
Even when there are clear issues caused by their software, they refuse to adequately look into the issues that are clear to find..

My money is just gone…

Four days ago I helped my husband create an account. Yesterday he wanted to transfer the 80 I put on his card (the one and only transaction). It would not work. He called customer service, and he has proof of what happened through email. The lady said she would have to transfer his call to get a security hold lifted, and that she "escalated" the situation in order to have someone help him sooner. He called a bit later and a man said his account has been deactivated. The decision is final. And the $80 cannot be transferred, your account is closed.
WHAT?!? And they REFUSE to help recover the money.
Do not trust square.

They took money in less than 15mins. I've been 3 weeks tryn to recover it with the same. Bull$#*! computer hell they call support, all the way never once allowing the. Oppertunity to speak to a.live person in order to. Maybe fix the problem.

Worst service ever!

I run a small business and was recently forcefully deactivated because I use their system weekly for large production (I build houses). They have decided because I have only had 1 customer so far that I am a scam and booted me from thr system leaving 4 men without pay or ability to run a card. They purposefully make it so you cannot call abd request a reason for being booted. And I doubt I'll ger a response to the email I have sent. I recommend this product to noone! They are a hook use and delete company.

It's so hard to create a free website. The video to create a free website is piece of $#*! it doesn't help at all. Customer service is trash. The call drops in the middle of the conversation and they don't call you back. I will not recommend this company. For the headache better go to other companies.

Don't trust Square!

I have used Square for several years. I have had some issues intermittently but only recently had a really serious issue. I had a payment that was made to my account just disappear. I noticed it missing the following day and contacted Square. They made an offer through one of their agents to settle the matter as they were unable to find the missing payment. The offer was what I felt was very generous but they caused stress and took up a lot of my valuable time so I appreciated that they took responsibility. The words used when sending me the offer were clear. However it wasn't what they did when it came down to it. When I complained they explained it in a different manner. However the words of their agent didn't correspond to what they later claimed. So they willingly breached the agreement I entered into because they are big, wealthy and can get away with it. I will never trust square again. I am invested in a bunch of equipment and can't afford to switch immediately but I look forward to the time when I can. I considered going to court because it would be a small claims court but then I will suffer more loss of time that I can't afford at the moment. Maybe when things slow down after the holidays I will reconsider.

I don't know where to start but my overall impression of the company Square is that it appears to be owned by a very powerful cartel who goes under the names Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey and contracts their operations to customer service agents and financial institutions to make their business look legitimate.

Once they encounter any problems which they can't handle, they deactivate your account without any reason. This is to appear unbiased or non discriminatory citing "they have the legal authority to exercise that will if they detect irregularities with your account," which often result from their own inefficiencies. Ironically, we could say the same thing too, but we don't deactivate them.

I have never seen a business that allows you to contact them only once you establish an account with them. Once you create that account and you wish to speak to a live customer service agent, you have to log into your account and get a code then call them using that code. Therefore if your account is deactivated and you have a grouse or feedback to share, your calls will not be accomodated because you have no account with them. Nonetheless, it would be remiss of me not to share the positive:

Their email response rate is surprisingly good.

Another positive thing I can say about Square is that they try to be very dynamic by providing cutting edge technology to meet today's business. However, without adequate staffing and committed live persons to synchronize with this technology, there will be many dissatisfied customers.

There are so many poor reviews and bad reports about this company that outweighs the good but for now, I would classify them as unethically Squared! I had a disagreement with a customer service agent and my account was deactivated 2 minutes after my interaction. What a coincidence! I was merely asking questions about some aspects of their service which I couldn't understand.

I gave them a 1 star because that's the lowest score I could find and there are other positives with the company. I hope they have enough money to keep disguising their unethical and poor service.

Square put a hold on my $2000 wedding event and I could not pay my employees so I had to cancel it. The client was very upset and obviously so was I am my staff. Also, square has sent me a email saying that another client decided to say she wanted money back after I completed services. This service was done 2 months ago. I gave square a copy of the contract, pictures of the photography, pictures of the client in my office, sakes receipt and square took $550 out of my account. They are telling me they are keeping this money on hold for up to 4 months. Do they realize that my account will be damaged by this? I will loose even more clients because of this? Square does not care and I was told today that I should just close down my square account and use another service until they are ready. I can not believe that this is a real company. I suspect there is fraudulent activity throughout this company! Please, if you don't believe me listen and read the other comments. Don't waste your hard working money on this company who is going to steal your money.

HOLDING FUNDS

I purchase a storage unit for the price of 2K The seller got the authorization which was approved. Square held funds. Released them 2 days later then the damn funds disappeared! WTF This seller is legit. Don't have the property and she doesn't have her money. Bull$#*! 10-28-2021

After opening an account, answering applicable questions and entering a credit card payment, our account was closed with no explanation as to why. They are holding a $3,000 payment by a client and plan to hold it for several months before transferring to our bank account, if ever. You cannot talk personally with anyone at the company. We have now found that multiple individuals/businesses have experienced the same problem. Filed a BBB complaint to no avail. Never do business with this firm!

When the card reader doesn't work, which can happen for multiple reasons (no wifi, the card's strip is worn out, the reader is worn out, etc.) Square has instructions on their Support page to enter the credit card information manually. I encountered this situation at my last show with 100% of my credit card sales, followed Square's instructions from their Support page, and received an "Approved" response with each transaction. Square's records showed these transactions were transmitted to them as "cash" transactions so they refused to compensate me for the sales.

If you use Square, you know that cash transactions are very different from manual credit card input. They do not display fields for you to enter credit card information, expiration date and the code on the back of the card, and they do not ask for the customer's zip code. This was all information I manually inputted with each transaction - but it did not transmit to Square. But again, with each transaction Square responded with "Approved".

Square did not acknowledge any problems at their end and would not help me, so I essentially held a "Free Sale" where I paid for booth space at the show in order to give my products away. I have no idea if the customers' credit cards were charged. I only know that I will not receive payment for my goods because Square will not investigate the problem on their end. However, in telling me this they kindly hoped that I would have a "wonderful day!"

I'm switching to another credit card processing company, and recommend that you do too.

My law firm has been a Square customer for years. No problems until May 3,2021 when Square began charging my bank account $19.95 monthly, which was not authorized by me. My bank can not stop them. I can not stop them because they will not talk to me, only Chat Customer Service. If you call their *******000, you must have a "code" to reach a live person which you can not get from Chat. I suppose I'll have to cancel my account with Square and my bank account from which they are stealing money from me every month.

I WAS USING SQUARE TO PROCESS PAYMENTS FOR ALMOST A YEAR WITH NO REFUNDS OR CHARGEBACKS, THEY CLOSED MY ACCOUNT FOR NO REASON AND HAS HELD MY MONEY PAST THE 90 DAYS, THEY WILL NOT ANSWER THE PHONE OR EMAIL. THIS COMPANY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND THEN GO IN HIDING. As you can see they were supposed to release my money on aug 30. It is sept 15

Square Stole My Money

They are theives stay away! I opened a brand new account, processed some credit card charges and had 1 transfer to make sure it worked. I then processed a larger credit card purchase and they immediately deactivated my account with no explanation. They won't answer the phone unless you have an active account. I am no longer able to access the account online. And they do not answer their emails. They are nothing more than thieves and I hope they all go to hell.

Thieves and liars

They are still holding my money. Claiming there is something wrong with the account number I gave them from my credit union. I've been with my credit union for 15 years and in all that time have never had a single problem with that account number with any other transactions. Their verification deposit and withdrawal have both gone through, and they are still saying there is something wrong with my account. My credit union instantly makes all my funds available and is highly attentive to any communication. If this joke of a company was actually trying to verify anything it would have been done days ago. I am a very small business and this is just crippling.
They are holding 2000$ of my money. Gambling with it no doubt, as greedy corporations will. It's not enough they charge me 180$ or more to get it, they also need to gamble with it for as long as they can justify holding it. Absolutely despicable. I don't know how they are still in business, probably using a covid lifeline to keep afloat, and no doubt making profits on gambling with our money and duping honest hardworking people. Will never use them again.
Oh and they also delete negative reviews. And they have bought out Google to avoid being found out to be so bad. Hiding from the truth of what they are doing.
That's why it was so hard to find a place to leave this review. If you have a way to contact consumer affairs please leave your reviews there also. This company needs to be exposed for what it is. Disgraceful. Sinister. Greedy. Bad for business.

Square Sucks

There is no way to actually call customer service nor chat with customer service. A robot just sends you to sign up to pay for answers instead of their being an actual customer support team! NO FREE CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND I THINK I GOT SCAMMED AND WANT TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE IMMEDIATELY! I am cancelling this app as soon as I get my money back. YOU SUCK SQUARE!
