The overall reputation of Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage is significantly tarnished by numerous customer complaints, primarily centered around service delays, unfulfilled commitments, and unexpected price increases. Many customers express frustration over the company's brokerage model, which often leads to subcontracted services that fail to meet expectations, resulting in damaged or lost items. While a few reviews highlight positive experiences with the moving crew's professionalism and care, these are overshadowed by a pervasive sentiment of distrust and dissatisfaction regarding customer support and transparency. This suggests a critical need for the company to enhance its service reliability and communication practices.

They use a high pressure tactics. They quoted me low sent a contract that did not have all my its listed. I called to have items included and they were closing. Hurry hurry price is only good today I sent the required deposit and shocker my rate went significantly with the original items. There game is to quite low then when your stuck call you two days ahead of time to break the price news. I will filing a small

They will rip you off! If I could give a negative review I would. I had negotiated a rate if 2050. When I was called for inventory review, I was told the rep had not written estimate correctly. I had to pay an additional 450. Now the total bill is over $650 from my original estimate. I contacted the rep I had negotiated with who said do t worry I'll fix it. That was 3 days ago and haven't heard from him after multiple texts! RIP OFF COMPANY! No choice but to use as truck-is coming today but save yourself some heartache and $ and use someone else! Reps are arrogant and useless. They could care less about customers and promises that were made! Steer you wrong and in a crunch where you have to move you sign off then they use that against you.
We booked our move almost three months before the move. We spent hours on the phone walking through the house with measuring tapes to measure furniture and to count boxes. They revised the estimate up over a thousand the week before. Today, right now, they are here to move us and they DOUBLED the price! I asked about getting a refund and was told you can get a refund up to three days prior to the move. A lot of good that does because we didn't know about doubling the price until today. Hey the mover guy seems nice but we were quoted about 8,500 for the move today the price is over 18,000! Bait and switch!
I am missing 3 boxes. One with many nuts and clothes, one with a set new set of Calphalon pots and pans, a bathroom scale, a beige color fleece jacket, plum down jacket and more clothes. This move came from a LA truck to Fort Worth Tx
Driver never showed. Told the day of pick-up that there was no driver. (We we're moving out of state.) The whole time pretended to be hunky-dory.
Costly to make immediate changes. Further more, had to spend additional money to make horse transport date changes, too.
On top of knowing their situation, they charged my account trying to claim "non-refundable". This company is sooooo full of it. There's no possible way that these reviews are legit. The American way is to eliminate these type of businesses. Poor business ethics by trying to roll the ball in my corner stating," For a refund, you'll need to call your bank……oh, you need to call to get an extension for us to get you a driver……. Oh, wait, we might be able to get someone later……our refunds may take up to 90 days". Bull sh-t, I can't stand dishonesty. I'm a business owner with plenty of integrity. How dare your establishment think and treat me, as if I'm an idiot.
I warned with a professional conversation, I once sued over $500 because an establishment did the same. By the time I was done, they had to pay $200,000. I saved my contract. This is the perfect place that needs to learn a costly lesson.
I treat clients the way I would like to be treated. With respect, honesty, and integrity. I would expect the same from any other business.
They took 1334 dollars in cash and on the day of move a man and a woman showed up in a SUV and the man started yelling that his 24 ft truck cannot come up the driveway. I told him we just had a 28 foot truck here with no problem. I also said we can carry the 15 items to the main road where your truck is in my Dodge Ram Truck. BUT HE HAD NO TRUCK ANYWHERE. The woman said give us an extra 1700 now and we'll send a truck later. I said no and they gave me the finger and drove off. I called the SGM and a gentleman said the charge on your contract does not include the moving expenses. He then hung up on me.
The gentleman were 3 hours late but they were super professional and took time wrapping my furniture. It was a good deal and I got connected to Ben James and he took great care of me on my move across country! I mean ya an ikea end table was broken and a lamp was bent, but i expect that in 3000 miles as ive moved many times. Overall the gentlemen were good guys from sales to crew. It took my items 21 days but I was in no rush and for just over 2000 I cant complain 1 bit! I am a mortgage lender and I would recommend these gentlemen to any of my friends and or family.
It's a reason it's called budget the quality suffers. Not only do they not keep records of their finances they also try to overcharge and will literally ghost you until you hound them. Lost items and damaged items. Will not be using them again 0/10 do not recommend
BEWARE OF DISHONEST ESTIMATE.
I have a very standard one bedroom apartment set of belongings. The initial estimate call for a one bedroom apartment was done. Around $2500 was quoted. The agent continually down played needing an EXACT accuracy. Turns out they did things like quote for a bed frame and not also the mattress. Or a standard couch despite being told it was L shaped. He even said "this can be an estimate, they just don't like to find out about a pool table or something like that!"
Fast forward to the week of the move. The agent called for an exact inventory, almost scolding me for not declaring a few lamps or picture frame on the wall and how unhappy the movers would be if things like a few lamps were not declared ahead of time. Very standard items. My estimate nearly DOUBLED. It is now $4,465, I had to put down an additional 1000 deposit.
Dishonest to it's core.
I was given a quote for moving my belongings but was told a much higher quote 3 days prior to my move (I tried to call them the week before with an update box count but they wouldn't do it) The price jumped up about $4700 as I had a lot more boxes. I said ok, and I got rid of some tables and 50 boxes. Their movers (who were subcontracted which I didn't know) showed up to load my things and without even doing a full walk thru of my house, stated I had more than they thought and added on another $1300! It was too late to do anything of course.
I asked to make sure my boxes would be moved and stored upright (they were not…many were delivered upside down!) I was told they didn't charge for tape or moving blankets (I was charged $300 for tape). I was told my things would be in storage close to where I moved (they did not. They were stored four states away) So when I wanted my things delivered, they wouldn't even do it until a week and a half later and I had to beg for them to do it.
Boxes were damaged and squashed and some items of mine were damaged as well.
I thought hiring movers would make my move much less stressful but it was the opposite. I was so anxious and worried about my things, I wished I had never used them and just loaded a truck by myself.
When we first called these people about a move from Iowa to Alabama, we were first told our price would be about 10,000 dollars. When we got our second estimate it went to 14,000 dollars. Me and my wife at the the time thought that was alot but we had alot to move, so we agreed. The first day they showed up we were told that we had so much that they would need a semi truck to move it all, which they did not have available at the time, and because of that the price tripled to 36,000 dollars. They were not able to move all of our belongings for almost a full month. After they picked up the second load of our property which was on 0/3/27/2022 we were told our property would be delivered on Wednesday 03/30/2022. It was delivered CLOSE to our property. The truck driver refused to drive down the road to our house, told us that it would cost us an additional 8,000 dollars for them to bring in additional trucks to move everything in. My wife had to hire ADDITIONAL movers to get the job done. That was another 6,000 dollars! And on top of that, there was alot of our property that was damaged beyond repair, and some of my wife's jewelry is missing and there are other things we can't account for. DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND DESTROY YOUR PROPERTY.
Anyone who thinks they have been bilked out of there deposits please contact your local law enforcement agency so they can build a case against this company
This company is a complete fraud! Do not let them convince you otherwise! Beware of Greg Johnson and Mike Ross! This is a game to them and they will try and con you into wiring deposit money to them! Nothing they told us was truthful. We lost $2800. 00
I hired them to move me from my storage locker in Missouri to my new home in Arkansas. They quoted me $2200 and i payed $1100 down payment. A few days before the move a Mathew Higgans from quality control dept called to review my I inventory. I said it hasn't changed, its a 10x12 storage locker, the same as i had said during the call with Chris the mover. He then informs me that it would be $7000. I told him I couldn't afford that and would like my deposit back. He then tells me its none refundable. So Im out $1100. As a retired widow that really really hurts. It is wrong in so many ways. I hired a local company as I should of from the start. BEWARE, THESE GUYS ARE BAD NEWS!
They instead of shipping my stuffs, sold all my items and now refusing to compensate. Talked to my lawyer and now suing them. Please do no use this service. Scammers!
Spoke to Ben Mallard at Southern Guarantee about a move for my son. After giving me a high number I said No and he continues to contact me with lower numbers which felt a bit shady. We settled on 1599 for a one bedroom apt. I paid them a deposit of 579 only through bank they don't accept credit cards red flag Number 1. Leading up to move I would txt Ben about my son being on the third floor. No problem and NO charge Ben would say all good! Day before move I too got the call from Mathew Higgins that wanted to double the estimate. I told him no way forget the whole thing he quickly bactracked and said he would leave it as it was. I get an email from ES VANLINES Tamira Parsons. I call her about the move she too says not to worry it there will be no extra charges and she has trucks and a crew for the move. Moving day 1 guy Robert arrives 3 hours late in a budget truck by himself! Shows us the space we are allowed in the truck and it's 2 feet wide and the height of the truck. Truck is empty at this point. He wants 700 more dollars for the move. After a lot of hesitation we sign his paper and give him 600 cash while he waits for his helpers to come. He then got in his truck and drove off with our cash! A helper shows up said he was contacted on Craig's ljst to help out. We call cops they say it's a civil matter I disagree sir a THEFT just occurred. I call Tamira Parsons she says we signed his receipt so cops can't do anything. Clearly she is skilled at this robbery scam. Call SOUTHERN Guarantee speak to Stacy who says it's not their problem won't give back deposit and I should call movers about stolen cash. LEARN FROM this. Real movers give you an exact price by coming to your home or virtually seeing your items. NO BROKERS involved. All the players in this scheme are linked to many different company names that pop up until they get in trouble then open under another name! Disgraceful
Don't trust the positive reviews. They brokered us to a moving company who brought WET boxes and a smashed TV. Missing pieces to furniture. Poor communication. Run. Wish we did.
Mom rant here
Our stuff finally arrived! We had money order for the set amount needed for the delivery which was $1300 over the original estimate. One guy comes in to set up the paperwork while the other starts moving things up the stairs. Next thing I know guy 1 starts talking about they are going to charge us more because to their company a flight of stairs is 7 steps. We have 2 split flights of 8 steps each. They try and charge us an extra amount that we currently do not have. Guy 1 starts yelling at guy 2 that we are canceling our move and to pack it all back up. Not once did the word cancel come out of mine or kyles mouths! Guy 2 takes a few moments and talk to Kyle and I, telling us the company we had hired are greedy and will charge whatever they can to make us pay extra. For a good 30 min I try and get guy 1 to give me his bosses number so he can speak with my husband about any additional charge they are trying to make us pay. I help guy 2 unload everything off the truck because god damn it I'm not letting them take everything back and we paid for the initial delivery. If they didn't want to help me bring it up whatever. Finally Kyle gets ahold of the supervisor telling them everything from the delivery is a week late to them now trying to charge more. Guy 1 gets back on the phone and tells me no, it's no charge and they will bring it up the stairs. So we have our stuff but will never recommend southern guarantee moving and storage to anyone!
Biggest scam in the world! A $2200 estimate ended-up to be $3900! They load half your stuff and then say that you've reached the maximum of your estimate. 100 cubic feet for a mattress? 250 cubic feet for a loveseat?!?! Come-on! And they dont even count what can be placed on said mattress or couch. I told them to unload it and that I would do it myself!
Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage has taken good care of my stored possessions over the last ten months. They were delivered to my new place in great shape. I am so happy we decided to store them here with these wonderful people who demonstrate they care about other people's things.
