The customer service at SGS Engineering has got to be the worst I have ever experienced bar none. They send out the wrong parts that dont even match the advert or reciept, then refuse to pay return postage. They fob you off, dont return phone calls, lie and treat customers like idiots. What an arrogant bunch of scammers. Dont take my word for it. Take a look at some of thier other reviews.
As others have done I will be reporting them to Derby Trading Standards.
Sgs engineering will not except negative reviews on products
After having a problem with my airline splitting and a tire inflator on wanting to stay on the valve seems trying to leave a product review was impossible as they wouldnt post it on the product seems they would rather no review over a negative one.
This to me means you cant trust what your buying to be good quality
Customer service want to sort the problem out with out you the customer knowing about the faulty product before they make a choice to buy

I cut these guys out after complaining direct to Stephill about them. So I bought the same machine but 240v and guess what. Arrived with loose choke lever. Terrible welding of frame like they had run out of gas and still painted the bad welding with bubbles in black. The stickers were stuck on lop sided, and the power plugs to run equipment feom was also fitted lopsided and screwed into tin so no chance of altering. Stephill gave me £250 back and I kept the machine because I had no choice as it was with me and Id needed it urgently for work. Last fortnight I went to start it and it took 7 minutes to fire up. This is a £1500 pound generator with Honda engine. The thing surges when using 1/4 of the max power its rated for so Stephills alternator bolted on is also iffy. All I can advise to anyone is dont buy anything from SGS Engineering or Stephill. -1 out of 10
I purchased a Ryobi Jigsaw for my husband on the Sunday, on Monday, I was told they had run out of stock but, it would be back in stock in a couple of days. Tuesday, I called them to double check and they told me it wouldn't arrive for when I needed it. I requested an immediate refund so I could buy elsewhere (luckily I paid via paypal) they told me 3 days. Paypal refunds show on your account within 2 hours, not like a card payment, so I knew they weren't a good company. I went to Paypal who opened a case from me, they then have 10 days to refund, they refunded me on the 10th day! Very poor service, they should be ashamed of themselves taking money when they don't have the products and then not refunding immediately and I will never buy from them again.

I cannot comment on the product ordered as it has never arrived. My review is to highlight the total lack of customer service received. Yes they have a department of that name but assurances from it are worthless. This is without doubt a SALES company, after sales is not a concern it appears. So beware, as with other reviews, approach an order placement with extreme caution. Next Day delivery is advertised across the website and is part of the telephone hold music (with which I became over familiar) yet when you place an order that feature appears to be forgotten. And the day after that and the day after that and...
Never ever ever buy anything from this company. I literally cannot; without jumping through your computer screen emphasise this enough. I do not know how they are legally getting away with how they operate this business but hopefully they won't be doing for much longer. They break consumer rights and trading standards laws. They do not do free returns! Please be advised of this now if you are thinking of buying something but are unsure of if you will need to send it back. It states on the banner on their homepage it is free returns! Their customer service is appalling and I spoke with the so called manager who was just as bad. They took over 2 full weeks to refund me and that was after me chasing them for it. They lied about sending something out to me so I could return my item(because apparently otherwise they would not accept it) so I had to buy it myself to return the item on. The whole thing has just been a stress filled ordeal from start to finish, it is not worth it, please just go somewhere else for whatever you are thinking of buying. Oh and it cost me over fifty pounds sending the item back. AVOID.
My strimmer didn't start at all. Only after receiving additional starting instructions (not the first time this has happened then) did it eventually start only to use a tank of fuel in 10 mins and then refuse to start thereafter, hot or cold.
SGS were reluctant to admit a fault but eventually had it back for investigation but after keeping it for 2 weeks sent it back in the same condition.
I then had a saga to obtain a refund which took a lot of chasing and contacting my credit card company. Overall the experience lasted over 6 weeks and is not one I intend to repeat!
Purchased a Strimmer which to be fair looked good, however, after 30 minutes work it packed in and refused to start, phoned SGS and to be honest, they weren't very helpful, told me that because it was a 2 stroke engine and air cooled then it shouldn't be operated for more than 30 minutes, I informed them that had I been made aware of this then I wouldn't have bought it! I was promised a return call from the technical department but nothing happened, when I called them the following week They told me it would need to be returned and a returns order would be sent to me, again, nothing happened, after a few days I contacted them again and was told I would have to return it and if it wasn't a manufacturing fault I would be liable for costs of repair, (by the way, I could of returned it under their 'no quibble' 60 day returns guarantee, but thought I would give them a chance to sort it) anyway I did return it and then had to contact them again 2 weeks later to see if they had received it and if so could I be updated, they said it had been repaired and would be returned, I also enquired as to what had been wrong with it and they said it had been a carburettor fault, they would only refund £6.30 of my £18.00 postage costs, so anyone out there buying a SGS multitool Strimmer, don't run it for more than 30 minutes and if you do and it lets you down don't expect good customer service!
I ordered and paid for 4 gas struts for a customer. After a week the goods had failed to appear and I was re assured replacements would be sent overnight... again goods failed to appear. Put in a claim and was told monies would be refunded in 72 hours after 26 days finally monies refunded. Placed order with Gas strut engineering items arrived next day! Would I use SGS again definitely not, disappointed and felt let down by this company and it's customer services department

I would rate them if there is less than one star. Horrible customer service, keep providing false information. Specially there customer service team (most of them)they are arrogant and disgraceful.
I never seen such kids of bad peoples in my life.
I ordered generator, then they give me a price and They promise me to have me 3 to five business days. I paid more money for express shipment then they start playing... I end up not receiving the generator for more than a month. I am residing USA and I make international phone calls every single day and they providing false information. Finally they sent out my generator with wrong reciver name and contact information. I clearly stated and sent them multiple times who must be received. But they don't even know why they did like that. As of today I haven't able to collect my generator and every time when I call to ask they transfer my phone one to the other and they are not able to make correct their own mistakes. It was time sensitive matter.

I wish I had known how awful this company was... I ordered parts over three weeks ago... and after about ten phone calls to England asking where my parts were... being told lie after lie... they sent them out... they sent them out three times...? They gave me a FAKE tracking number... and none of the courier services have the parts? The worst customer service I have ever experienced... I still dont have the parts. And they have not refunded my money nearly 100 euro... Stay away from them... I will be taking it further though...
A really angry customer
Thank goodness I cancelled my order. It was the courier's fault that the goods weren't ready! Again and again they told that they had sent the order again and again it didn't arrive. Four telephone calls laters still no goods, I have now gone to PayPal and got a chargeback what an unpleasant company, inefficient, unhelpful and disinterested. Someone called David threatened to 'take legal action if I put a bad review on the web' I imagine they must have disgruntled customers every day with this kind of non existent service. I have little doubt that if the goods had arrived then they would have been faulty and then I would have had to take them to the County Court! What a ghastly company!
WITHOUT PREJUDICE
Bought a generator less than 2 months ago, exhaust feel off as the others have detailed below same fault ( me suggests this a design fault?). Have spoke to their customer service team 3 times and basically it is all my fault cos I used the generator and despite it being less than 2 months old at the time of the product failure it is entirely my fault?. We have used it a total of 30 hours MAX throughout this time. They are blaming this on information that is on the website but NOT at all on the operators manual.
What I did get off SGS engineering was a strong threat if I put negative comments online they would sue me?!
So to confirm to everyone NICE in fact LOVELY company to deal with? Make your own mind up what that means almost as subjective &ague as their warranties & promises... avoid at all costs is my opinion.
What ever you do, do not shop at SGS Engineering or you will be sorry!
They won't refund your returns money in full, even when the item is faulty & that's against the law! £20+ to return a faulty strimmer, they will cover you for only £5. The law says they have to refund in full!

I would suggest that anyone that has had issues with SGS Engineering contact CAB in Derby and report the situation. The CAB will send the information to the trading standards team and if there is enough noise they will be investigated.
Unless we act together this company will not change or better still be shut down
Rang for advise, and got a sales guy sighing to my questions. He then asked what I needed a generator for and recommended the wrong one. I never knew and transferred a thousand to pay for it. By end of day I had emailed for confirmation of despatch but no reply. I rang and they said they had not sent it. Then demanded a refund and they took 4 days till a driver turned up to deliver the wrong item. They knew the order was cancelled but still sent it regardless I was waiting for my money back. Then when I had it in my van, i rang asking about the refund and they said you hve the generator. So they then accused in direct words me of trying to keep the generator and the money. I still haven't received a refund. I was going to pay £300 extra for a better machine, and they would not continue the despatch even though they had. Grand and before it would have arrived they would have had the difference. Never call you back. Rude. And offer poor sales advise. Very bad company. Reporting them to trading standards in the morning. Direct breach kf my consumer rights.
We needlateed a replacement compressor, we ordered it at 2.30 for next day delivery. The order conformation promises afollow up mail on dispatch with tracking number. Having had no contact from SGS i mailled them late in the morning to be told the carriers has sent the item to the wrong depot and it would be an extra day before it was delivered. At no point was i offered a tracking number to co oberate this, so i suspect it wasn't dispatched until i mailed to chase.
I will not be using them again and certainly wouldn'r recommend them to anyone else.
