This is my first attempt to use SelectHomeWarranty and it was a waste of money. I never got a contract after 2 requests in 90 days. My A/C went out and it is 101 degrees outside. Their response was that they will get someone out to diagnose the unit sometime next week. I found a licensed contractor that day to repair the unit for $1243. 00 and paid for it myself. SelectHomeWarranty advertises that I could get a reimbursement if I need to find a contractor in their advertising. They denied my claim.

No Service Provided On Either Request

I contacted Select Home Warranty on two different occasions to look into two different issues. They never sent out a repairman either time and without even calling to speak to me regarding my request, they sent me an email stating they would not be sending anyone out. For the record I have the Platinum Care Plan and each item is listed on my contract. It's one thing for a repairman to come out and then the company denies to cover the service but to never even send out a repairman. Unbelievable. Save your monthly fee because you'll end up paying for the service of a licensed and bonded repairman yourself anyway.

Fraudulent

Select Home Warranty should be avoided at all costs. Their "pitch" is low prices, and that part is true. But once again, you get what you paid for. I have had two occasions to use the service. Once, about a year ago, I paid 60 dollars for a technician to come look at my dishwasher. He left, never came back, and then refused to answer my repeated calls. I ultimately fixed the dishwasher myself. Select Home Warranty was unwilling to assign a new tech, nor to refund my 60 dollars. Most recently, my wall oven failed. Am incredibly poor technician came to the house, and I looked up a YouTube video to help him take the unit out of the wall and get it disconnected. Then next I was told, by Select, the unit could not be repaired. Ok, so let's replace it…. No, I was told, we have decided to give you 200 dollars to replace my 3000 dollar KitchenAid Superba wall oven. Several calls to Select all ended the same way. The decision is FINAL. You cannot appeal, you cannot talk to a supervisor, you cannot talk to the decision makers. Just replace you oven, file some paperwork, and wait for Select to give me 200 (net 140) dollars. DECEPTIVE and FRAUDULENT. AVOID Select home warranty at all costs.

I filled a claim with select Home Warranty about problem with my refrigerator collecting ice at the inside bottom of it. They responded with the following mail message which I am pasting below: Dear Ashok MOZA, We have processed your claim for policy #*******. The item in which you are attempting to file a claim on is not listed as a covered item in the policy agreement. This agreement covers all systems and appliances listed in the terms and conditions of your agreement. Please refer to the terms and conditions for clarification. Should you have any questions feel free to contact our office at *******532. I called them again and again but no response.

I feel cheated I sign up waited my 30 days and file a claim no contactor showed up and then I was told that the package I have does cover my claim how is that possible when I have the package that cover all my electric washer dry etc. this company is bill$#*! and taking people money

Worst Company Ever!

DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY! You will be wasting your money and time. The positive reviews are all fake. If you dig deeper you will find the truth. This company was a complete waste of my money. Took days to hear from them after filing my claim, and was told to wait for a technician to get in touch with me. Whenever I called I was told repeatedly to wait. Went seven days with no air, and no one ever contacted me. Had to fix issue on my own. Don't waist your money!

The worst company to deal with. They will twist the claim to be able to deny coverage. You can't speak to any intelligent person! There customer service must be in India and they are very unhelpful. My recommendations is run away as fast as you can. Don't waste your money. Refused to pay for ac repair and had been with them for over 2 years save yourself some grief get another home warranty company!

Should be zero stars

Very disappointed. Hucksters and fraudsters just stealing money. Because really, what are you gonna do?

3 claims in 8 months on major appliances. All denied. So after my $700 premium with zero ROI, I've paid over $6,000 in repairs.

- AC died in July during Texas heat wave. Claim denied due to clicking incorrect box on their prehistoric Win95 website. Then received multiple ESL apologies and explanations and refusals to elevate my claim to somebody in America that speaks English and has decision-making authority instead a highlighted script to read from.
- refrigerator stopped working day before a week-long trip. Denied claim and said Samsung "should" cover it. Of course Samsung did not.
- pool pump stopped working. Denied claim due to not having maintenance records from before we purchased the house.

Third update: My AC broke and Select Home Warranty took 2 weeks to fix it in 100 degree weather. They lied to me on multiple occasions during this process. They wanted to save $200 which is why it took 2 weeks to order generic parts for the repair rather than having the repair done in 3 days with the appropriate Carrier parts. They lied to me and said they had ordered Carrier parts. They lied to me and said the repair technician didn't have parts which is why SHW had to order them. I confirmed all of this to be false. This was unethical and inhumane and this company will be losing all 5 of my accounts now. So saving $200 dollars just cost them over 10k in business with me plus all the people I will be steering away from them in the future. I work in real estate so this will cost you.
Second update: Do not use this company. You have better customer service options when it comes to home warranties.
Sales people were great obviously but customer service has been a total nightmare.
They won't answer the phone when contractors call so you have to schedule 2 visits with your contractor.
I've now requested 3 times for my policy to be emailed my policy information and have not received it. I own 4 separate 5 year policies with them. Really regret my purchases now.
I've spent hours on the phone with them just for simple services.
Updated: Contract clearly states when they decide on a cash settlement rather than repair or replace they pay you cash but this is not true. You have to jump through a bunch of hoops sending invoices, repairing and replacing the item yourself etc. I spent an hour on the phone over a measly $100 check. Other warranty companies just mail a check no question.
Subpar customer service, communication is poor, emails look like they were formatted in the 90's and lack needed info such as address, policy number etc. The website is useless.

Read the fine print before you purchase

I had a refrigerator go bad after just over three months since purchase date yet they would only cover $150 vs $500 to repair it! They stated that my purchase date is not included in the time allowed. The fine print shows that purchase date is not the same as effective date(which is 30 days later!) so they took my payment and then sat in it for 30 days then my policy went into effect. This is great is you wanted a month at the back of the contract but is unsatisfactory if you have an appliance go out up to 40 days after you purchase it! I cancelled as they were no help and just used "it's in the contract". I do not recommend this warranty. I will receive a prorated refund in over thirty days by snail mail! This is the 21st century?

Absolutely worthless - will NOT cover you

This company will NOT help you in times of emergency. It took them a full WEEK to approve me for replacing my AC unit after it died in 91 degree heat, and they ONLY offered me $600 for a $6,000 AC Unit. They DO NOT care about you, they DO NOT tell you anything other than a basic script. Absolutely do not recommend. And that is weith PLATNIUM

The joke is on me

1. Hot water tank leaked, they could not find a repairman, so I had to find one, it was fixed. 2. Garbage disposal quit working, they paid for a replacement but would not pay for a plumber, I had to find a plumber to install and replum everything, replaced pipes under the sink $130.00 for piping. Plumbe around $400. Now ac is out, (compressor froze) it needs a new compressor, they would not approve it, quote from ac guy who again I had to find is almost $2000. 00 I'm to send them pictures of the unit and any work I've had done to it, 6 days out right now. 100 degree plus weather. I've only been in my home for 2 years. Anyone who reads this, do yourself, your wallet and your headaches a favor and go with a more reputable company, they sang me sonnets when I was asking about their company to purchase a home warranty, they fix everything no problem. I purchased the home warranty because I'm single and wanted peace of mind, they have only given me headaches and an empty pocket, I live out in the boonies and again the rep said no problem, we have repair people out there. I've had to call and find a repairman all 3 times for service. Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time or your hard earned money.

SCAMMERS! Fraud! The last two repairs I needed they claimed were not covered, so even though I had been with Select for several years, I found another company and signed up with them. When I canceled Select, they charged me a $75 cancellation fee! Customer "service" is also a joke. They don't care: "Different people have different policies." In other words, we screw some people and screw others even more. STAY AWAY FROM THESE BULL$#*!TERS!

The WORST warranty company I have every had to deal with, bar none! They have no interest in customer service. My (covered) pool pump died. They sent out a technician to diagnose the problem. His diagnosis was a dead pump that would need to be replaced for $2600. 00. 3 weeks later I still had no (Pentair) pump and a pool turning green. Reason: "I can't find anyone that has the pump in stock." I bought a comparable (Hayward) replacement pump and replaced it 2 days later.
Now the problems with Select Home Warranty begin. I called to find out how to proceed with the claim for a reimbursement. Which was only going to be $400 BTW. They said to send in the invoice for the pump and they would process the claim and reimbursement. After sending in the invoice and waiting over a week with no notice or update I called, only to be told my claim had been denied. This is now the 7th week. Every week I call to have, what I feel is a legitimate claim, I get a different reason for rejecting the claim. We don't have an invoice. No diagnosis from technician. No authorization to proceed with repair. Every call is a different excuse for not reimbursing my claim. Today I am resigned to the fact that they will never cover my claim. They have no interest in customer service. I asked to have my policy cancelled and the have the audacity to tell me there will be a $75 dollar cancellation fee. Do yourselves a favor a use a different home warranty company

This is a Scam, first is more a call center that does not really support the customers. They claim 24/7 but they put orders only Monday to Friday. Their technicians has all kind of tricks and charge you for many extras that the policy does no cover! They Denies a lot of works and their services are really bad! Don't pay them ahead for the entire year as did! Don't even buy the insurance is a bad decision. I will report them to the customers affairs.

I think their reviews are not valid and shows 4.8 but people will find put when they have the first service how bad is this company.

The first two claims were serviced ok but the third, concerning a non-functioning spa heater was a nightmare. First they could not find a contractor so I got an email from them say to find my own and call them back to get authorization. I quote: "... please call our authorization team at... before you perform any repairs." So I did. After being shuffled around I spoke to someone from their authorization team who said they didn't give authorizations to policy-holders over the phone and I should do it by submitting the estimate by email. So I went to the email address given me. There was no facility there to submit ANYTHING SCANNED. I called back up and then got the same scripted response. Besides this they use people in India for customer service so it's tough to understand their accent. Finally asked my technician to call them (apparently they do speak to techs to give authorizations). Hopefully this will resolve things. All this could have been avoided if their initial email was not so full of misinformation.

If you are looking for a terrible home warranty, then Select Home Warranty is the one for you! They will be there for all your home repairs. Well, mostly they are they to tell you thr issue isn't covered. Their employees will give you incorrect information and hang up on you if you ask a question. Then you can spend another 20 minutes listening to their lovely music. Honestly, this company is terrible and if I save 1 person the headache of this company, then my time writing this review will be worth it.

WORST COMPANY FOR HOME WARRANTY COVERAGE.
Please do not get swayed by this company's sales tactics by offering cheap insurance. For the first time we switched to this company since they were 20% cheaper to their competitor. After 6 months we filed claim for A/C. After 4 weeks of run around, we were told to submit Maintenance Records and pictures of the unit that we did by next day. The company could not find an A/C repair company for 6 weeks. Who so ever they picked refused to work for them.
They asked same pictures and same maintenance records three times.
Horrible company. We made a mistake to pay one year premium upfront. They do not refund your money either.

I am a single, senior (almost 60) legally blind female who recently purchased a new home. I felt that I had been defrauded out of $1934. 96 ("warranty price") and all I got for my money was excuses and no resolution whatsoever. After not receiving service on two separate warranty issues, I requested a refund.
On May 26th I spoke with Nicholas in the escalations department. We discussed cancelling my policy and getting a refund. He told me that he could talk to me about my refund but could not send me anything in writing. He told me he would have billing send me the refund information.
On May 27th spoke with Ron Smith a "manager in the executive customer relation department". I again ask for my refund information in writing. Mr. Smith told me that he could tell me about the numbers over the phone but not in writing, he said that the billing department could only provide those number and his would be an estimate. I asked him to send me the estimate via email and he agreed.
I emailed James Wilson who is another "manager in the executive customer relation department" on June 14th and told him that I wanted a break-down of details and calculations for my refund emailed to me.
I emailed Joe Shrem, owner of the company twice (June 11th and 21st) requesting my refund information in writing and still have not received any written information.
I have requested a detailed summary of the calculations used to determine my refund FIVE SEPARATE TIMES and have been denied this information.
Only fraudulent, fly by night con artists refuse to put things in writing. This organization preys on the elderly and disabled and needs to be put out of business!

You can only find an home warranty effectiveness when you file a claim. Currently I have Select Home Warranty and the covered items under this Policy clearly states that the Kitchen Refrigerator is covered. It also specifically states that the compressor, evaporator and condenser etc. are all covered. My refrigerator stopped working so I filed a claim to get it repaired. The technician did come in a couple of days and promptly notified me that the compressor is not working and it needs to be replaced. The technician informed me that he will contact the Select Warranty folks for repair approval to order the parts. When I called Select folks on the repair updates I received an email which stated that repair request has been declined as the unit is old. Also, the refrigerator sealed unit is NOT covered. All refrigerator and Air Conditioning appliances are sealed unit, meaning, that the compressor and the evaporator and condenser are all sealed because of the Freon gas. The UNIT has to be sealed to function. Could you believe the excuse they have in order for NOT to repair the unit. THIS IS A FRADULANT COMPANY. I am hoping to cancel my contract with them and to get a refund for the remaining days.
