The overall reputation of Select Home Warranty is predominantly negative, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction regarding service delays, claim denials, and poor customer support. Many reviews highlight a troubling pattern of unfulfilled promises, lack of transparency in policy coverage, and difficulty in obtaining reimbursements. Conversely, a few customers noted the affordability of the plans and positive initial interactions with sales representatives. However, these positive experiences are overshadowed by widespread complaints about the company's reliability and perceived deceptive practices, leading to a strong sentiment among consumers to avoid this service.

BIG WASTE OF MONEY. SCAM. They sent someone and they know what the problem is. They keep blowing us off as far as repair. You can not get anyone who speaks English on phone and when you call all you get is 48 hours. We have been in the 90's and have been without AC for over a month now nights drop in the 40's and we have no heat. These people could care less about you all they want is there money. DO NOT USE OR YOU WILL REGRET IT.
After receiving the Contract from SELECT, it was obvious the salesman (E. B.) lied to me about several conditions on the Warranty Contract.
1. Told me that Freon coverage ($25) was included in my payment => A LIE, it was never included in Contract received.
2. Told me my "Terms & Conditions" would be identical to those listed on the SELECT website => ANOTHER LIE, the contract received listed HVAC & all other Appliances with significantly reduced coverages ($500 in lieu of $3,000 & $150 in lieu of $500) during the 1st-3 months of the policy.
3. I emailed him, to ensure my additional conditions and disclaimers were in writing to him, that the HVAC units were previously repaired several times and there really were not any maintenance records except for repair invoices. I wrote that these conditions must be accepted by SELECT and that they would not limit the warranty coverage and $$$$ limits in any way. He verbally stated that those conditions would not be a problem and encouraged me to finalize the Contract with him. => ANOTHER LIE, many of these conditions may not hold up for warranty coverage per the SELECT contract.
In Summary, this entire experience with the sales rep and SELECT was very Deceptive, Fraudulent Business Practices & False Advertising. They deliberately and fraudulently list on their website a set of "Terms & Conditions" that are completely different than the "Terms & Conditions" sent to the customers who accept their Contracts.
When I confronted (email) the salesman about all of the above deceptive and misleading "sales pitches" presented to me he immediately said he would have his supervisor cancel the contract. This was not my decision or choice, but he obviously realized that I had caught him in so many unethical, fraudulent agreements that he wanted rid of me ASAP.
Subsequently, he & SELECT have been reported to my state's Department of Insurance for Deceptive, Fraudulent Business Practices & False Advertising.
This company denies claims and is a total scam, stay away from this company. Does not provide service when needed and denies any claims
Check the reviews. Everyone loves the sales people, but that's because they haven't filed a claim! They promise platinum service and your call is top priority.
LIE! Same number for everyone.
If you use the wrong word on your online claim = DENIED
I had a pool pump stop working ( I paid extra for salt pool equipment coverage). When it turned on I saw smoke, so I quickly turned it off and it released the water it was attempting to pump. The extra details box only allows for maybe 20 words, so when I mentioned the water they denied the claim saying it's a leak and leaks are not covered. They also do not operate 24/7. Mon-Friday (daytime)is when you will get an email. Next your prompted to call them (We are experiencing high call volume your wait time is 10+ min)... 5 minutes in and you can request a call back without losing your place in line. 30 minutes later and no call.
Basically, they are a scam. I bought Platinum Care from them 6/21/2021 and made 1 claim this year. I waited for 3 weeks and paid $75 for somebody to come out to have a look, then after multiple phone calls in 3 more weeks only to find out the claim is rejected. American home shield is better than them. Don't buy it, otherwise you create headaches for yourself.
Filed a claim with Select home warranty regarding my clothes dryer not working. They said they cant find any technicians and that I have to find an appliance tech myself and then call them for approval once the tech was on site. The appliance technician gave them a quote for the repair which Select home warranty denied stating it was not cost effective for them and told me they will not repair the dryer and that I need to go buy a new dryer but they will only reimburse a new dryer for $200 even though my current broken dryer cost $750. They also refused to cover the service call fee of $65 for the technician to come to my home which they themselves demanded I call in order to get the estimate for the repair. When I signed up for Select home warranty I bought their most expensive and extensive plantinum plan and i was promised they would either cover the repair cost or provide me a replacement unit. I asked specifically when i bought this plan what happens if a replacement unit is needed, their response was that they will purchase, deliver and install a new replacement unit regarding all appliances. I am now out $65 for the service call fee and I have to buy a new dryer myself and all they will cover is $200. This is not the policy that was sold to me nor what they advertise. Their motto is "we will repair it or replace it".
I made a mistake buying this plan bases on premium. I should have also reviewed how they can pay on a claim. My first claim was for a microwave oven which had a problem with the panel. Select claimed it was to expensive to fix and they offered me a buy out of $100. They would not repair or replace the item. It cost me over $350 to replace and I 'm still waiting for the $100. My next claim is for my LG refrigator. It was determined a new compressor was needed. Instead of repairing the item, Select determined the parts are covered under mfg warranty. The product is over 10 years old and is no longer covered by the mfg. I nformed Select of this and provided information from LG stating it is not covered. Each time I call Select to inquire about status they just tell me the claim was denied as it is covered by the mfg. I have provided this information 3 times over the past month and Select keeps telling me the claiming m was denied, This company does not want to honor it's policy and will do anything to keep from paying a claim. DO NOT BUY Select home warranty products for any reason, they do not pay.
I had a leak on the main plumbing stack and it needed to be replaced. The total cost was around $1,400. I called them to report the problem and was told it will take 1-2 days to get the claim approved. I called them back after that time and they added another 1-2 days. Called my own contractor, got the estimate and got it approved for REPAIR. After one week without any plumbing in the house, my contractor fixed it. I turned in the invoice I paid out of pocket for reimbursement and was told only one part was covered. The check that I still have not received will be $230. Apparently they are not covering labor, only parts. I have the platinum plan. When I got the warranty I was told repairs are covered but not new installation. That made me think I can not add anything new but existing items are covered for repair. That is not so. I would not advise to get this warranty. They twist and turn terms to their favor and leave you with the bill. You think you have peace of mind until you need to file a claim. They also get totally rude on the phone with you.
They just keep you busy on the phone, ruin your days off work, and ultimately provide you with no solution and close the claim without letting you know. What kind of Service is this? I made a mistake by enrolling in their warranty plan. For the last 15 months approximately I have been paying; at the time when I need service, they just start putting excuses. I would not recommend this company to anyone and be a victim of them. I learned my lesson. Thanks
I'd give 0 stars if I could!
8– 15–22 I started my claim, scheduled GE to come take a look at my oven. 5 days prior to the scheduled appointment I had something come up and had to reschedule, that was a huge mistake! Using their website to reschedule I thought everything was taken care of, instead I got an email from Select, saying my claim would be closed if they didn't hear from me in 2 days. I called them immediately, told them what happened and I needed it rescheduled. I had planned my entire week around the reschedule date which was September 1, I asked if they could get me an appointment on that day, they said sure no problem I will call you back. No call back. 2 days later I called them. They told me the appointment was now scheduled for the September 2. I told them I would not be available September 2. I needed it September 1 which is what I scheduled on their app. They told me they would get it taken care of and call me back. 2 days later no call back. I called yet again, they escalated me up to the customer loyalty department. That person said they would handle it and call me right back. NO CALL BACK! Monday 8-29-22 while on a biz trip I got a call that the GE rep was at my house. I immediately called Select, they said it'd be handled and call me back, 2 days later still no call back. So of course I called back again. We are now at August 30. Again I spoke to the customer loyalty department, Sharon promised she would call me back and get this taken care of. She may not be able to get it scheduled in September 1 because we were closed that day, but she would get it scheduled and call me back. 2 days later (today), no call back. Again I called them. Asked to be transferred to the customer loyalty department. 35 minutes later, after being put on hold promised that they would get back to me being put on hold again promising me somebody would speak to me I still don't have my problem resolved. I was told today I'd get a call back from a supervisor in 3-4 hours... 3-4 HOURS!?!?! I bet they don't call me!
The customer service at this company is the worst ever. Do not, and I repeat do not hire them.
Submitted claim a month ago. They said they couldn't get a contractor out to my house and to hire my own contractor to do the repairs. I had a contractor come out and give an estimate. My drain pipe to my tub fell off. To fix this issue, the tile and tub needs to be removed per the contractor. Select Home Warranty denied the estimate and said it is a tile or grout problem and they do not cover those issues. My drain pipe fell off, how is this a tile problem? Absolutely horrible company! STAY AWAY!
Company is not good, tries to get out of repairs and sends not qualified people. The Air was down and they did not repair. Had to call another company to make a very simple repair. Their cancellation fee is $75. Made several calls and emails. They do not help their customers. I do not recommend them.
Select home warranty is run by bunch of CROOKS. They take your money and when you do file a claim, they will find every possible excuse to deny your claim. They also use the least experience and unprofessional; contractor which 90% of them have a FLONEY convictions. They will delay a simple repair for more than a month. Most of the time customers give up and they get the repairs done on their own cost. All the calls get answered from India or far east and you will be talking with someone with minimum English capability and knowledge.
I purchased a SHW policy for my house about two months ago. My refrigerator started to have some problems. I called SHW and the SHW technician made arrangements to have an appliance technician to come and diagnose the issue. The technician said that a fan in had shorten out. He had to get SHW approval to order part and return to fix the refrigerator. I had not heard anything. I called SHW three days later. SHW did not have any communications from appliance technician on diagnoses. I called the numbers for the appliance tech and first one I was told that it was the wrong number (Appliance Solutions in Bakersfield). Phone number provided by SHW for Appliance Technician never gets answered. I have called SHW warranty two to three times a day on this issue. I am going on week five, yet my refrigerator has not been repaired.
I finally called to cancel this contract. I was told that there would be a $75 cancellation fee and my contract fee would be prorated. I was told that I would be receiving approximately $200 refunded. I paid $475.00 for ONE year warranty about two months ago. The appliance technician took the $75 deductible. In total, I have paid $550.
If SHW does only send me back $200, I will be out $350 with no working refrigerator. Nothing has been done. ONE BIG SCAM! I would go more in detail but I am limited here as to how many characters can be used for these reviews.
Never ever use select warranty. Select looks for ways to not approve any claim. Had a pipe leak, sent all the documents and the support team reads the documents wrong and the authorization department puts the blame on cust care for not approving the claim. We are stuck with our ceiling open, pipe cut and open and no washroom to use.
This is a scam. There is no way a real business can survive with this level of service. I filed a claim a month ago, I have received three different vendors, none of them are able to provide me service. One does not service Samsung, one will not do work with Select Home Warranty because they don't pay, the third is out of state and when I reach out they do not answer and their cellphone mail box is full. I want my money back!.
These people are a scam, please beware. They deny claims, refuse to cance your policy and when they do they charge you for cancelling. That is how they make money, by scaming customers. When you call them--I spent days and hours trying to reach someone to cancel--they drop the call, in other words, they don't want to talk to you. I cannot say enough what a nightmare it has been and we've only had them for about 5 months but i am thankful we got rid of them.
I would think long and hard before ever using SHW they promise you that they would cover all your HVAC needs in a timely manner with a positive resolution
I called SHW on 8/9/22 my AC was out, 2 weeks later my AC is still not working! It took the company they contracted with 5 days to let SHW know what repairs were needed. Two days later SHW requested that I send pictures of the AC unit in the attic along with serial and model numbers, me a 70 year old woman was supposed to climb a 10 foot ladder crawl in to the attic and take pictures, and yes that is what they said, pictures were taken emailed to them I was told it would take 24 to 48 hours to review the pictures, we are now looking at 2 more days without AC. Their reply, they would give me $150 towards repairs per article 9. 2. 1 due to the fact that I did not have my AC unit serviced every three years, they neglect to tell you that when they are promising you the best warranty service and taking your money.
I purchased a policy with Select Home Warranty.
My policy was fully in effect.
I needed to call for what was originally thought to be something plumbing ended up being a roofing problem. SHW was contacted for both.
SHW was unable to find in 48 hours, someone to take care of the roofing problem.
SHW gave me authorization to find my own repairman.
I found a repairman.
The problem was presented.
The repairman contacted SHW for authorization.
We BOTH spoke to the SHW AUTHORIZATION AND.
The repair was approved.
The amount to be paid was approved.
The repair was completed.
The payment was made for the AUTHORIZED AMOUNT OF $100.00.
The invoice was submitted.
Then an email was sent and discussion is on going.
SHW said that they would pay.
Now they say that they won't pay the total of $100.00 but only $25.00.
Select Home Warranty, they will take your money and when you call for service they will find the way to tell you that your contract does not cover that part, I have to wait almost 42 days and 2 technicians to hear that the broken part was no cover by my contract and when I prove that they were wrong they said that I already spend the money allowed for the contrat, so do not waste your money.
Answer: Scam. Do not trust. They lie and will NOT cover your items.
Answer: Based on Internet searches but quickly found out that they are a SCAM.
Answer: After filing 5 claims, and one tech that wanted to pad his pocket resulting in me fixing my own leak in a toilet at my expense after paying their tech. And another tech wanting to get my pool setup for summer at150. More than I already gave for deductible she didn't fix my pump or water line to my pool. Both denied by select home Warrenty. And 3 more that I paid their techs for then had to fix it myself. Now my freezers compressor is out and they took money out of my bank account without my permission after saying they would go ahead and fix the freezer well guess what they declined it. And said it wasn't covered when in the contract it says it is. List all meat and others because of 3 weeks if waiting for them
Answer: They are fast when signing you but so slow in responding and they are a total scam had to pay out of pocket for my leak repair that they should fix
Answer: Stay away from this company, get your money back ASAP. The longer you wait, the less money you get back.
