The overall reputation of Select Home Warranty is predominantly negative, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction regarding service delays, claim denials, and poor customer support. Many reviews highlight a troubling pattern of unfulfilled promises, lack of transparency in policy coverage, and difficulty in obtaining reimbursements. Conversely, a few customers noted the affordability of the plans and positive initial interactions with sales representatives. However, these positive experiences are overshadowed by widespread complaints about the company's reliability and perceived deceptive practices, leading to a strong sentiment among consumers to avoid this service.

They were very pleasant, and answered all my questions.
After receiving may quotes they were the best price by far.
This company stands by NOTHING! I was suckered into buying a plan that I thought was what I wanted BUT only to figure out what I got was a basic plan and when they needed to fix something I got "sorry you don't have that coverage" even though I chose the ice maker coverage and because they tried to close a deal and get me signed up they decided to go cheaper by not covering it and when I fought for it I got "sorry that's what your contracts say and nothing I can do"... I'm an idiot for not reading over the paperwork but shame on them having to be sneaky about it! And the people they did send to my house did not do anything and still took my co pay!... I will be contacting the BBB as well... please do your research on this company you might get scammed too!
After reading all the reviews i decided to cancel my warranty... talking with people who have it I realized i was being scammed... they take money out of accounts without authorization & take FOREVER to fix the problem... STAY AWAY...
We have worked with 3 home warranty companies and Select is by far the WORST! Do not buy a warranty from them. Our hot water heater went out the first day in our new house. We went almost a week without hot water as we did our due diligence to ensure we had a proper diagnosis and weren't replacing if it weren't absolutely necessary. Mind you, We have a 2 year old and another on the way so that in itself was tough to do! It was deemed that we needed a new hot water heater. Our hot water heater was a very nice model and not at end of life. Select offered us less than $200 to repair it. It ended up costing us a couple thousand out of pocket to replace. Months later our washer started throwing an error code. Select suggested a technician that we were unable to get in touch with. We called them for assistance and after a couple days of them not being able to get in touch with the technician, they instructed me to find a local technician. I confirmed over and over that this was the correct step. The service fee and diagnosis was $148. A quote was Provided from the technician to repair for close to $700. Select offered us a measly $185. This barely Covers the cost of the technician they REQUIRED us to get! There is no coverage for repairs being offered. I am beyond upset and frustrated by this company's poor business practices. They are a complete scam! Please avoid them by all means necessary.
When you pay for a "Home Warranty" you expect to what the name implies. A warranty that covers your home an appliances should they break. After all the very definition of a warranty is " a written guarantee, issued to the purchaser of an article by its manufacturer, promising to repair or replace it if necessary".
I purchased a "warranty" through select home warranty and paid over $600 for approximately 1 year of coverage of my home where my wife and 2 small children reside. I bought into the sales pitch of " Shield your wallet. Shield your home". I thought I was purchasing piece of mind. What I was really purchasing though was a SCAM.
Recently my clothes washer started making a loud banging noise so I decided it was time to file a claim with Select Home Warranty (from here on out I'll refer to SHW as " SCAM ARTISTS"). So I filed the claim and they sent out a technician to diagnose the problem. I paid the technician his $75 service fee and he submitted the information to the SCAM ARTISTS. Later that day I called THE SCAM ARTISTS to follow up with them and they indicated to me that they were giving me a $100 dollar credit towards the purchase of a new washing machine.
WHAT?!?!?!?
What is the point of having a warranty on your home and appliances if all they're going to do is write it off as "broken"?! I could've told them that is was broken! So basically after paying the technician the $75, I ended up with a 25 bucks towards the purchase of a $900 dollar washing machine! If that's not a scam I don't know what is.
Please please please do yourself a favor and do NOT ever do business with these SCAM ARTISTS!
Select Home Warranty should be ashamed of themselves. For scamming good hardworking people out of their money. I'll be getting a lawyer and blasting this company for the thieving scam artists they are.
BUYER BEWARE! THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY THEY WILL STEAL IT FROM YOU.
I write lots of reviews and hardly ever have to be so harsh on companies. This issue went on for over 2 months though and I'm beyond disappointed.
I called to make a claim that my Refrigerator unit was leaking. After they sent out a technician 4 days later with one of their companies they communicated that the lines just needed to be unclogged and cleaned. This did not work so we had to have the third party Refrigeration company come back out and evaluate that the whole fridge needed to be replaced.
Then I waited over two weeks before ever hearing from SHW. I called and they said they were waiting on the Refrigeration company. So I called the Refrigeration company and they said they were waiting on SHW. No one wanted to resolve the issue! Finally, I called SHW back (almost a month after the initial claim was submitted) and they sent me an offer of $185 to replace my refrigerator. What? $185? What am I supposed to buy with $185? The ice maker alone costs $180 to replace in that fridge. I read the terms and I know that they base the value of your appliance on the depreciated price of your unit. But they also say in 10.1 of their terms the amount of claim payout for appliances is up to $500. I asked for a manager and requested the full $500. They said they'd call me back. They never did so I called back. Then they said they'd review it and get back to me and they never did so I called back again.
This issue started on Oct 31 and it took me constantly pursuing them for over two months for them to say the only amount they will give me towards buying a new fridge is $185 firm. No exceptions. This is where I conclude; WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! It would have been better to save the over $1,100 dollars I spent on this worthless warranty and then I'd have enough to buy a fridge myself! Poor customer service, unrealistic reimbursement valuations, and waste of coverage. There are better ways to spend your money people.
Belinda was my agent. She was very knowledgeable about the product and very helpful in making the right choices pertaining to my home size. I rate her a ten. But five is as high as i can go.
I was pleased and impressed with the skills of the rep I worked with. He did a fantastic job of answering my questions and guiding me to the best decision! Thank you!
Bruce was very helpful and knowledgeable. I look forward to continue service with them for a long time. Just wish they covered Freestanding ice makers.
Furnace would not run on auto talked to three different people over a ten hour time trying to get service this was on sunday 1/5 finailly the last person told me would have to wait till monday but could get someone my self and be reminburst but contract said have to use there service to be paid did get fixed on 1/7 is all weak end problems handle this way and what if it would have been below 0
Isaac M. Helped me today and provided FANTASTIC service! He saved me BIG money!
Thanks Isaac you're Awesome!
Representative I was connected with, Steven, was amazing at explaining everything and making sure my client was getting the top coverage for the best price. The deductible is one of the best out of everyone else I shopped with! I will have my client write a follow up review from the consumer perspective after they have actually put them into use.
After renewing my home warranty, I saw Select Warranty had over 3,000 complaints and was not accredited by the BBB. I will follow up with a phone call when I complete this survey.
The Rep for the company seemed to be knowledgeable about the questions I asked. He also made sure I was getting all promotions and deals I was qualified for. I hope that my experience with this company isn't like some of the reviews that had less than acceptable ratings.
They answered questions and gave other information during my claim call... Also was very clear telling me what to do to get my repairs done asap..
I have been with a different home warranty company for a few years and it has never been pleasant when dealing with a claim, plus their yearly cost and service fees are higher than Select. Looking over covergage they provide much more than my previous vendor and their costs are less. We'll see how it goes!
This company is a SCAM. We filed a claim for a broken garbage disposal and they said that they would give us $75 for a replacement. The actual cost to replace the disposal would be about $400-$450.
We are very unsatisfied with that resolution and how challenging it has been to get clear and correct information from the call center. I have called MANY times and have received bad customer service each time. It has taken a ridiculous amount of phone calls and time (the plumber waited 2 hours on hold when he tried calling to report his determination that the disposal needed to be fixed). I have been told multiple times that I would be contacted by a manager within a certain time frame and have not been contacted.
We feel misled by the false advertising on the site and the salespeople that we worked with. One of the salespeople charged our credit card without our consent so we were ultimately charged twice for our policy and it took almost two months (7 weeks) to get reimbursed. The site says "We'll repair or replace your covered item. You pay a minimal service fee. Simple as that." and the contract specifically says "this agreement covers all modules, components, and parts of the garbage disposal necessary to the functionality of the garbage disposal". This indicates that items will be repaired or replaced when necessary. Then the contract has the caveat of section 8 that says Select Home Warranty does not have to cover something if it's irreparable or not cost efficient to fix. This essentially enables Select to avoid paying to cover any claim submitted because nothing is "cost effective". I understand that we had 30 days to cancel our policy once the contract was sent to us, but we were under the impression that Select would operate in the best interest of the homeowner and didn't think we had to read through the contract that we didn't even have to sign to verify that the claims made on their site were true.
The plumber that came out to our house agreed that this is something that home warranty companies typically cover.
When I finally was able to speak to a manager, they gave me an email address and said that there was nothing they could do and probably wouldn't be able to get help by emailing the back house but to try. I tried and explained this whole situation and received the following response: "We are in receipt of your email. Please contact us at *******532 option 5 to discuss your claim." This does not resolve ANYTHING and is frustrating because that's the number I've called MANY times that ultimately told me to email.
I want my garbage disposal covered and I want my money back from this company. It is awful and frustrating.
The gentleman who handled our call made purchasing our home warranty quick and easy. He offered all discounts and made it very clear what we were receiving.
I was going to change over to Select Home Warranty from American home shield because the deductible was less for when you have a service call. I didn't want to go without coverage so I was going to have both of them at once. But couldn't afford it. So I decided to stay with the company already have so there's no waiting period. Well I called in to cancel I was told I was going to get a refund within two business days. 2 days later I receive a phone call I guess from a salesman and he does everything to not get me to cancel the policy. He says he can waive the waiting. So he says a new contract was to come and just to be safe I don't cancel my American Home shield. Well I never got any email with a new contract so five days goes by and I call in today. Waited on hold like 15 minutes only to be told that there's no way they can waive the waiting. So now I wasted with not having that money back and I needed it I'm starting all over again. Talk to the cancellation department and he tried everything to try not to get me to change again. I said I don't wish to speak about it just give me my refund. I've had American home shield for 5 years and have had an excellent service.
Rep for the company was not a pushy individual, instead he explain my options and what was available and cost. Rep was knowledgeable in his field which made me comfortable to do business with. After reading the reviews after I just purchase a one year contract I am beginning to wonder if I will have the same problems. Well I will live and learn as they so call say it. Hopefully I will not have any problems but if I do I will be putting a review up too. Since I am an Office manager of a company I can let others know whether or not to go with this warranty company too. Word of mouth and the internet are two strong tools in keeping a business strong.
Answer: Scam. Do not trust. They lie and will NOT cover your items.
Answer: Based on Internet searches but quickly found out that they are a SCAM.
Answer: After filing 5 claims, and one tech that wanted to pad his pocket resulting in me fixing my own leak in a toilet at my expense after paying their tech. And another tech wanting to get my pool setup for summer at150. More than I already gave for deductible she didn't fix my pump or water line to my pool. Both denied by select home Warrenty. And 3 more that I paid their techs for then had to fix it myself. Now my freezers compressor is out and they took money out of my bank account without my permission after saying they would go ahead and fix the freezer well guess what they declined it. And said it wasn't covered when in the contract it says it is. List all meat and others because of 3 weeks if waiting for them
Answer: They are fast when signing you but so slow in responding and they are a total scam had to pay out of pocket for my leak repair that they should fix
Answer: Stay away from this company, get your money back ASAP. The longer you wait, the less money you get back.
