On 2 different occasions, first the water heater and second the build-in microwave, select home warranty found a reason for not repair or replace the appliance.
So, why is it worth having a home warranty if always they find a reason to avoid service.

If this is the best home warranty available we are all in trouble.
First (if it matters) they are not an american company. If you don't believe me just try filing a claim.
Second, it is impossible to find someone that is willing to work with them ( which should be a red flag).
Third DO NOT let them talk you into calling your "own" technician because you will find out the hard way that they do not reimburse for "out of network" technicians, which by the way it says absolutely nothing about out of network technicians (per Gabriel a claims supervisor) in the contract. I called a tech. At their recommendation and was stuck with a service call.
Fourth I am now waiting for six weeks on a repair or replace of my dryer. They will not contact me and when I call they say "we so sorry, we expidite you claim".
Fifth I filed a claim on a $600 septic aerator less than two years old and after daily calling and expressing my extreme frustration they reluctantly are supposedly are sending me a check for $200 because of depreciation.
Sixth even though they refuse to help you in any way, they will not reimburse you without a early cancellation penalty and a pro-rated reimbursement.
They exist to charge premiums and deny claims. STAY AWAY
I've had raw sewage backing up in my drains for 5 days now. I'm a senior citizen with a disabled senior who lives in household as well. I called on Monday a plumber didn't come out until Wednesday only to tell me that he told them he did not do main sewer lines. They sent him anyway. No resolution. So called immediately to select home warranty and was rudely told that it would be another 2 days before anyone else would be coming out. Here it is Friday and the plumbing company has yet to receive a work order from select home warranty even after several calls.

Please watch out for the lies that this company will tell you to have you sign up with them - they are a rip-off and a scam. First it was my garbage disposal which they basically told me they pay the fraction of what it would cost for a professional to replace it - meaning they gave me about $75 (after calling for nearly 1.5 month) to inquire about the payment! As they will tell you: "their resolution team" has come up with the estimate for this repair. My garage door started to play-up and not open fully, I oiled it and it still was having problems stopping abruptly when opening. I called select home warranty they dispatched someone to come and look at it, we paid the service fee of $60. The technician tested the whole system and said the motor is bad and have cost about $485-$60=$425. They are telling me they will only pay $150 period! Their website right on the main page toward the bottom says: We Provide a Peace of Mind... It's as easy as; 1- Report a claim 2- We assign a local professional, and 3-we'll repair or replace your covered item. You pay a minimal service fee. Simple as that. [my cost is over $300 and that is not minimal.]
Here is an interesting thing that just happened, I took a screenshot of the statements above... I spoke to several people in this company because I was furious, as well as the escalation team and I mentioned what their website says "3-repair or replace" then when writing this email I went to copy the wording exactly from their website and the word "replace" was removed! We are talking a span of an hour of me talking with rep, supervisor calling me back and transferring me to the escalation manager! Isn't that interesting!- Wow! I could not believe my eyes! (but I did have the screenshot beforehand!) They will tell you that the amount they are offering you is the cost of the items depreciation and it says it in the policy, and they will give the exact number off the bat- seems like they have memorized this section of the article.
Please, please pay attention to this... from time to time Select Home Warranty changes their website for number "3. Repair or replace" to just say Repair! Check it out for yourselves... go on the website every now and again, you'll see the change. When I was having the dispute with them, I took the attached screenshot and then after my calls and complaints to the company, I checked the website and the word "replace" was gone! Coincident?!
The worst. I bought 3 warranties for 3 house. Everytime I tried to us no technician and had to get my own after waiting for responce. When I got my own tech the company never excepted their description. Took my money did nothing. DO NOT WASTE MONEY OR TIME.
With the crisis of COVID situation, Select Home Warranty is working towards finding the right technician to fix the issue. They are promptly responding to the queries and hoping that issue will get sorted out soon.
They will not cover anything! In your contract sure it states they will but once your appliance/furnace AC goes out your screwed! This Select Home Warranty needs sued and the company needs to go bankrupt for taking money every month from people and scamming them out of their money! They sure did me for almost a year! 40 dollars a month and I even had paid for extra things like leaky roof and extra freon! DO NOT GO WITH THIS SCAMMING COMPANY!
I have never experienced such horrible customer service ever. You will spend endless time on the phone and be told you will receive an email with a service response within 24 hours once a technician is located. Well within 2 to 5 minutes you will receive an email they were not able to locate a technician. Find your own and pay and they will reimburse you. Not! They finally had a company contact me who explained they. Will not work with Select due to they do not pay. I originally contacted them on Sept 19th. Here it is Oct 6th and they still have sent no one for an electrical problem. I have made over 15 calls to them and it is the same every time. Do not buy a policy. If I had only read all the reviews before the purchase. This is very much buyers remorse.
I purchased a home warranty on August 13th and was informed on October 2nd that my claim was not covered. I would never purchase from this company
Possibly the biggest scammers yet! They would not cover a basic problem. Even the technician that they sent out couldn't believe that they would not approve the repair. Watch out for the $75 cancellation fee that they don't tell you about... avoid this company.
This company will take your money and do everything they can NOT to pay your claim.

Tried two different claims. Had rhe platinum package. Whirlpool washer that cost me 1700 dollars in 2015. Had control board go bad. SHW said my depreciated value was 200.00 for my 5 year old washer. Repair cost 461.00. That's the loophole on any appliance. Had a claim denied on A/C system. Their company they sent out said we had a Freon leak. Freon leaks aren't covered. Had 2 other companies come out to evaluate. Both diagnosed a bad compressor. SHW stood by their service company who doesn't even have a website or storefront. Had my system replaced on my own. Beware. Cancelled my policy.
Horrible service, they take long time to do anything and then they always tell you is not included in the contract. Even after you pay the service fee.
I tried to submit three claims in the last year, non of which worked out.
The first was for a leaky faucet and basket/drain on my kitchen sink. A plumber came out and looked at it, said he had what he needed to fix it on his truck, but couldn't do it because he had to wait for SHW to accept it. They did accept it for up to $500. The guy called me and said he would come fixit for an additional $485. What? Replace a cheap faucet and drain basket for almost $1000? Hey told me to have it done and send receipts for reimbursement. I replaced the cheap sink and fixtures w very nice ones for less than $500 but they never reimbursed me.
The next was for a fridge that wasn't cooling though the freezer worked. According to my research, it probably needed a new ventilation fan, relatively cheap. Their guy was an hour away so wouldn't come. People close to me wanted $75 to even look at it. That fee may or may not be reimbursable. I replaced the fridge with a nicer used one for $55.
Now my AC is out. The fellow that looked at it said that the compressor is bad and is no longer available so a new unit is needed. Of course, they won't cover it. They said that is an electrical problem so they won't cover it.
This warrenty company is USELESS!
I didn't have any trouble filing a claim. But getting reimbursed I had to follow up which I had forgotten about, glad I did because I am getting my refund soon.
Worst experience and company ever to get service from, In other words, it's a Scam.
I used AHS for over 8 years and this year just for a change and cheap package I signed up with Select Home warranty, paid a whole year in advance. Filled 2 claims and canceled my account within 34 days.
Both claims were my worst experience in fact a nightmare. For the first claim, even after getting approval from the authorization department I still end up paying $160
For 2nd Claim, that was the main nightmare which convinces my mind to just get rid of this company. Going back and forth with over 30 calls and dealing with 20 different customer service reps, no one knew what is my case about, their record with my case history changes every time, on hold over 3 hrs some time, transfer from one rep to other, my claim never even started, in the end, they told me they don't have any local vendor and I can call someone locally and they will pay for the charges, I have this in an email but never got any fee I paid to the local vendor.
Anyway, I got a lot to talk about and mention here but don't want to spend more time anymore.
Bottom line, please stay away from this Scam.
This is a warning for everyone - do not sign up for Select Home Warranty. They will induce you to sign for their warranty service offering you deals but find a different one. They are horrible - I place a claim for leak on April 2020 and they have sat on it for 4 months. After 4 months I called an independent technician who fixed the leak coming from a broken control valve from our washer located on our second floor. Prior to this we were told that if we can't wait for their service, we can find our own and they will reimburse. When the fix was completed and we sent the invoice - Select Home Warranty said that it's not covered so we have to pay for our $500 bill. So you better make sure you get a home warranty that is recommended by BBB otherwise you will be in dilemma like we did. Answer: After filing 5 claims, and one tech that wanted to pad his pocket resulting in me fixing my own leak in a toilet at my expense after paying their tech. And another tech wanting to get my pool setup for summer at150. More than I already gave for deductible she didn't fix my pump or water line to my pool. Both denied by select home Warrenty. And 3 more that I paid their techs for then had to fix it myself. Now my freezers compressor is out and they took money out of my bank account without my permission after saying they would go ahead and fix the freezer well guess what they declined it. And said it wasn't covered when in the contract it says it is. List all meat and others because of 3 weeks if waiting for them
