I just spent about 3 hours I'll never get back trying to arrange a house sitter for my two dogs. After telling Rover what and when I needed someone, they sent a list of "candidates". After going back and forth with "Meg", feeling like I was at a job interview, she messaged me to first explain the dates wouldn't work. I told her the dates to begin with, she could have saved me hours by simply telling me that to begin with! But no, she had to get all the details, including needing to know all about my house (nice), my dogs intimate details (ok) and their health status. As I told her, they have zero medical issues. They are about the easiest dogs to care for you could hope for. But besides the dates, she wasn't prepared to deal with my dogs "issues"...they have no issues! I can only assume she was looking for a nice house with a good TV and dogs that took care of themselves so she wouldn't have to get off her $#*!!
Also, the rates quoted were totally messed up. The total was fine, but the daily fee for 2 dogs was 1/2 the fee for my 1 cat that requires ZERO care!
Lastly, every single review for every pet sitter was 5 Stars... EVERY SINGLE ONE. Some had as many as 302 reviews with 100% 5 Stars. Not 4.5,4.8,4.9...5.0! What a total crock. Don't trust these people to be honest in anything they do!
If I could give zero stars, I would. Horrible American company that doesn't care about their pet sitters. Our long-time pet sitter just got shut down because she was honest with Rover. Some of the dogs she cares for get seasonal/ environmental illnesses, & she was honest with Rover & pet parents. Most of the dogs are seniors who are more susceptible to getting sick. If a dog was sick, she took it to the vet & paid for medication. Rover canceled her sitter account because of dogs having illnesses in her care.
She cares immensely for animals! Value your employees!
The pet sitter I hired on Rover.com proved to be unreliable, failing to arrive at the agreed time and neglecting to administer medication to my elderly cat at the times instructed. This jeopardized my cats' well-being, prompting me to lodge a complaint with Rover's Trust and Safety department. To my dismay, they decided to retain the sitter on their platform despite my concerns. I have decided to discontinue using their services due to the subpar standard of care they find acceptable. I would urge others not to use their services.
I anticipated a good outcome for my dog when I left her in the care of one of Rover's employees as the property has a great yard and the sitters seemed like they really cared about Lilly. They have dogs of their own who seemed well cared for, which also made me feel more comfortable leaving her there. Wow was I ever wrong. Yes they sent me pics of her where she looked as though she was ok and a couple of the pics even showed her inside the house where I was promised she'd be kept mostly inside. When they dropped her off, she had been given a bath which was a nice surprise. What wasn't nice was the fact that she had about 10 ticks of various sizes, one full of blood and about the size of a large grape. It was so obvious that anyone taking a quick glance at her would've seen it. She also had mud and other outside debris in her ear which was also infected. But worst of all, she was so depressed I had so much trouble trying to get her out of the horrible slump she was in. They'd broken her spirit by simply ignoring her and I believe she was just left outside for the entire week. Should mention that it was September which is far from the peak season for ticks.i believe she was given a bath quickly so I wouldn't see that she was covered with mud etc just like her ear. This company puts the entire responsibility of the behavior of employees on the customer to make sure they don't have to refund any money given to the employees. I also had to take Lilly to the vet for bloodwork and an exam plus meds to treat her ear which ran about $350. So not only was I out the $575 for boarding, I also had to pay the vet for services which were entirely the fault of the caregivers. Contacting the company proved to be a crooked run around, and BTW, they don't list a phone number so your correspondence with them is by email only. So...if you really hate your dog and want to inflict severe punishment on them, just call Rover. Their rating should be in the far negative. A REALLY EXPENSIVE NIGHTMARE!
I listed my dogs' behaviors and characteristics in their profile and explained to the dog sitters the specifics about my dogs' situations before booking the dates. They also met with the dogs twice before the boarding. Afterwards they went online and wrote stuff about the dogs that I had already explained - if they didn't want to take on the dogs and handle their situations, they should not have agreed to board them. Then Rover refused to take down their comments. I already paid a lot of money for the sitters, so this isn't right. Plus, Rover's site is not very user-friendly, they have a lot of technology issues and tech glitches. Sitters show up in areas that aren't near where you are located. Also, Rover does not have a phone number, so there's no way to contact them if you have a question. You're better off leaving your pets with friends of family if you can.
Just know that if your pet is injured during a pet sitting, walking,et cetera ROVer WILL NOT PAY as they advertise? Just had a dog sitter watch my small dog for thirty minutes And as a result of an accident, his only good eye was damaged.
I don't believe it really was the sitter's fault, however.
She indicated to me that she would report the incident to rover all within the 48 hour.they require. And I had over $900 in vet bills.
Yet rover refused to pay one dime because I did not contact them. They were given all receipts. Doctors notes everything they asked for promptly.
The corporate machine is working well for them.
Worst experience. Rover.com is fraud as they don't post any negative review. My dog dies because of the pet sitter negligence and rover didn't post th review neither tooks any action against the pet sitter. Stay away from this web site don't fall for the pet sitter reviews.
Placed a booking in March 2024. Had to cancel due to accident in which I suffered facial fracture and mild concussion. When I first placed my booking it was $554 for 7 days, with only 3 drop ins per day. I edited my booking to around $240. But Rover did not edit my withdrawal as I had asked them to. They instead withdrew the $554. So when I canceled my booking due to accident (which was the day before booking). I sent pics and reason for late cancellation to my sitter (Amy E) and Rover. So my sitter kept almost half of my refund. And her fefund policy did not define the amount she would deduct or if it was an emergency! Rover did not back me up or try to understand my side of issue. They do NOT support the owners, only sitters! Do Not Recommend!
I have experienced 2 frustrating payment issues with this app. My client still hasn't been refunded her payment of over $800 after speaking with a "representative" over 10 days ago. In addition to this, I still have not received payment from a dog walking job I performed this Monday. The app states that your payment will be received 4 days after your job. If you're a pet sitter, avoid using this app.
I have been a sitter on Rover for a few months. My clients have tipped me and the tip is usually included in my payments. One of my clients left a generous tip (over $50) and the app kept all of it. It was included under "Rover fees". The app already takes $4 out of a sitter's rates. Really unethical. If you want to tip your sitter, use another payment method. Do not trust this app.
I booked dog boarding twice and both times they cancelled.
It was near Christmas. Ofcourse I made first booking months before my holiday. The dog sitter came to my house to see my dog and everything was ok. He liked the dog, we spoke about the habits of my dog, etc. After a week, he messaged us saying that he is no longer available and we had to book another one. So, I booked another one, paid full amount; still about 2 months before my holiday, seemed no problem, but... Only 2 weeks before my holiday the dog sitter messaged me saying "Hi I'm awfully sorry to have to cancel so last minute you will be refunded the full amount"... Only 1 week before my holiday on Christmas time. Can you imagine, what are you going to do if it happens to you? I went through hell trying to find a place to leave my dog in the last minute. I can not trust them anymore, never. Can I...
I booked an appointment for a meet and greet today, and the dog walker came and met my cat and dog. He was a bit cold, but nothing was seriously wrong. But five minutes after he left he sent a message that he couldn't take care of my pets. Now I have to scramble to find someone else. What if he left while I was away? You can't count on a substitute because you book with one individual. My pets would have died.
I was babysitting a pitbull that I did meet and greet a guideline by rover she seem nice but apparently she did not like small dogs which the owner didn't specify to us as I was babysitting my friends dog, this pitbull, grab my friends dog and bit her on the neck. My mom and I had a fight, the pitbull to let it go took him to the vet and the bill was $1700 and Rover the sot one to reimburse me a penny. They are a horrible company they do not care for your dog they only care about making money. I do not recommend rover as they don't check peoples homes they do not know anything about the customer. They accept aggressive dogs and send them to your homes and if they injured a pet that is not a rubber customer they would not pay you for damages. It is a horrible company.
So I contacted Rover because I had an emergency and had to leave the country for 2 weeks, there was a girl name Jan that offered to look after my dog and my cat of from Rover She contacted me privately saying that she can make a cash deal with me because Rover take 's 30% of her income. I said no problem she gave me a great deal but this is where the problem started she is taking in boarding dogs and cats and doesn't have room for them, she did not even take my dog out for a walk once with in 14 days. I called my fiancé to go pick up our pets earlier because I was very worried about them, she even what's up me asks if she did anything wrong why are they getting picked up sooner.when I asked for the remaining balance that I have paid because they where herring picked up sooner she pretty much called me a white trash she did refuse to pay me back for the services that she sis not provide to me. Please everyone be are full her name is Jan she lives is Mississauga the phone number is *******637 she lives on 1041 Sawgrass Crest in Mississauga

We're looking for a sitter for one week for our multicat household. Rover advertised matching sitters close to the pet parents' location so it seemed like it was worth checking out. Found someone who seemed to be a good fit and contacted her. I was very upfront in my original message to her about how many cats we have and that even though Rover requires a specific time be entered for a visit, we were very flexible as long as the visits were daily. I explained that while we have a lot of cats, they're all up to date on vaccinations, we have a vet who does home visits, and that most of them would hide so she'd only see a few.
The person responded right away, said she loved cats and would like to meet with us and meet the cats. I responded with our availability. Then she suddenly started hedging. Said she didn't realize how far away we were from her work even though she lived nearby and couldn't visit during the time we requested. I responded, again, that I plugged in a random time and she was welcome to visit in the evenings or whenever worked best and that we were very close to the area she said she lived.
She responded again and said while she realized we had a lot of cats, she usually charges per cat (which was not listed in her profile or in her first response) and could I enter the information on the cats she'd be likely to see.
I responded with a description of the one definite she'd see and the three maybes but said I sensed something had changed since she responded the first time and that I had been very upfront about the number of cats we have. She replied, "Yeah, sorry, have a good night."
So completely unprofessional. How she has a five-star rating is beyond me. Except apparently all Rover pet sitters have five-star ratings. Now I can't even delete my account because I have a "pending request" with someone who has no interest in sitting for our cats. Run far, far away from this site. I think we dodged a bullet. I complained to the company when I finally found out how to contact them (spoiler alert, it wasn't from their website; I had to Google.) but I expect nothing. Use them at your own risk. My cats deserve better. So do yours.
I tried this service two times. Both times were horrific. Actually unbelievable, I'm lucky my dog survived both females care. I found a service that is unbelievable, they are so good and this was night and day difference. If you love your fur baby, do not use this company.
I've used a few different sitters for dog boarding services. There are some sitters who do go above and beyond but the issue is that the majority are not going to give much care for your pet and therefore your pet's safety and health is being gambled on. I've had dog sitters return my dog with injuries from bites and scratches. Also I will provide clear details and nevertheless my instructions are ignored.
If you reach out to rover support then you might get a trivial credit amount so that you have to continue using their service and paying them money. I'd recommend befriending some neighbors and communicating with close friends to help watch your dog since you will at least know that they have empathy and compassion. Rover is just a greedy and heartless service.
HORRIBLE! THEY CANCELLED LAST MINUTE TWICE. HAD TO CANCEL MY TRIP TO HAWAII
THEY CREDITED ME, WITH AN EXPIRATION BUT DIDN'T SHOW UP FOR THE BATH SESSION SO THEY EXTENDED THE CREDIT INDEFINITELY=
I WENT TO USE IT AND OF COURSE, IT'S NOT THERE, THEY SAID IT EXPIRED. DON'T USE THEM
My sitter is fine, however I have had problems with their all from the beginning. I have had Rover for two weeks. I have wasted hours trying to get them to fix the app so I can leave a tip, it's frozen. Rover's response has always bee giving me long instruction on how to trouble shoot. None of the instructions work.
Dog killers. A dog was killed under rover's care and they did not care to answer for their actions. Continues business as usual
Literally never trust this site, people come home to their pets dead and gone forever. Its disgusting that its still operational
