Roomster Reviews Summary

The company, Roomster, exhibits a polarized reputation among its users. Positive feedback highlights the platform's user-friendly interface and a variety of affordable listings, with some customers successfully finding suitable rooms. However, significant concerns overshadow these strengths, including deceptive practices regarding message visibility, a lack of genuine leads, and inadequate customer support. Many users express frustration over payment models that feel exploitative, alongside reports of scams and unresponsive service. Overall, while some appreciate the platform's potential, the prevailing sentiment suggests a need for improved transparency and customer care to enhance user trust and satisfaction.

Auto billed me for a month subscription without me knowing after I tried a 15 day subscription. Didn't even find a decent room. Just creeps and fake profiles on here. Just use http://www.padmapper.com/

Horrible site
August 12, 2014

Horrible site. As mentioned roomster is also about two other websites. The paid 15$ for the 15 day trial because I believe I would be able to find a ave to stay in desperate times. Long story short it was not beneficial so I stopped visiting the site UNTIL I received another automatic bill pay in the amount of 29$. That's frustrating when I don't even use their services and if I would have known any sooner that I would be automatically recharged I would have ended this agreement in more that enough time. The only way to contact roomster is via the "help desk" which I of course not have received a reply from. Do not use their services.it would not be a good free site let alone having to pay for it.

I posted a roommate ad a little over a month ago. I chose to use the premium service. For a while things were okay. Then I got hit with another auto bill to my debit card. That was a surprise. I thought I had signed up for only one month. I got a lot of emails about new postings and messages. But the site contained no new messages. Every now and then I would get a text to my phone from a supposed roommate prospect. They would say they saw my ad on Craigslist, which was strange, since I had not at that time posted on Craigslist. Then a few days ago the site would not work at all. I couldn't sign in, period. I made sure my PC was not having a system problem and it wasn't. I was able to get in through an email link, sent customer support a message. No reply as of today, three days now. I called today and got some kind of Suggestion voice mail. I left my contact information. I have reviewed this site and found out the nature of this company's business practice, all bad. They need to be put out of business and jailed.

I would give them a zero if I could.

I paid thinking it would be a great way to find a roommate. What it turned out to be was a way for every scammer in the world to contact me so their"agents" could send me a check.
I am busy and don't have time to deal with this, and want to warn everyone out there- use a reputable company! NOT them-they have no screening process.

I wouldn't even give them one star if I didn't have to! What a scam and rip off! I probably received the same scammy email that everyone receives from some chic... and then the account is deleted. Creeps. They need to be taken out of business.

I know there are some scams out there. Craigslist was the worst. I know about banking and read the agreement and I know I will be automatically charged after my 15 day trial is up. I have not been able to find a tenant for my apartment, but it did generate a solid lead for me. I always insist on contacting me via my personnal e-mail address to weed out the fakes. It seems like all of the complaints are about the auto renewals or the fee for viewing your inbox (even though I thought it was free!). I figured tehy have to make a buck somehow. I encourage people to read the agreement.

It is a bad scam!
July 1, 2014

It is a bad scam! Do not use it!
I got a message from a stranger saying "she" found my list in Craiglist. It told me to use roomster because "she" rented out her property from there in few days. I thought to give it a try. After I sent my message to all potential tenants, I got no response for a while. Finally I got a mail saying a new message was waiting for me but I had to PAY to view. I chose the 15 day service and paid $14.95 just wanted to see. The message seemed no sense and after I replied I never got response back! To be worse, when I logged in again, there is NO message in my mail box! - the fake message is gone. I then found I was automatically charged $29.95 after 15 days and there is no notice, no receipt for that! I sent email twice to the "7/24" customer support complaining the situation and I got no response at all! I hope someone can stop this business so no more people would be trapped like me!

I give them no Stars! They don't deserve it. Horrible, you get emails send from an automatic response for customer service. They have a bunch of scams out there and has no response to the concerns you send them! They also automatically charge you for a riduculous amount! WARNING: Do no attempt to use!

Roomster.com ( = OnlineSublets.com = SubletsWorld.com) are SCAM. roomster.com pretends to be individuals looking for roommates/tenants on sites like craigslist.org to lure people to contact them. Then they respond you with URL's like onlinesublets.com and subletsworld.com to see their pictures. Those sites redirect you to roomster.com. When you ask the house/apt owners which listings are their, they never replied.

Here are 2 examples happened to me. You can text the numbers listed below for proof. They will reply you with web addresses like below, ask you to sign up on the site.
*******070, onlinesublets.com
*******468, subletsworld.com

roomster.com also use their fake services to rip off landlords.

So I was going through my bank transactions making sure everything was okay, and I saw that I was charged $26.95 from Roomster after I already had paid for the 5-day upgrade ONLY! I did find my roommate on there which was rather pricey and misleading (another story) but I really hate when companies do that to customers! Stop tricking people into a service they no longer need anymore! Roomster also does not have a customer service number. I quit.

I recieved a text (from what appeared to be a realtor friend) and based on his recommendation I posted a rental listing on roomster. It was a bogus text which means someone affiliated with roomster is checking out rental listings on CL and recommending that they try listyourental.com which then takes you to roomster. There is no way to delete my account and the 24/7 support is not responding.
Bad, really bad... But my fault in not verifying the text!

Within minutes of signing up, I received a response from a scammer (started out looking legit) who ended up claiming to be stuck in Malaysia and trying to pull a fast one on me to get money. I'll stick to roommates.com from now on. I've had good luck with them in the past & they're good at keeping the fraudsters out.

Roomster is absolutely horrendous do not use them! They claim to be free and then they make you pay for a subscription, and then they charged you 30 dollars. They also do not have a proper contact phone number! And they take forever to respond on the 24/7 chat, and also I had no luck at all finding a roommate. I contacted several people and still never heard anything. The associates on the help line are extremely rude as well. STAY FAR AWAY!

This site is at best over priced. At worse it is a bait & switch scam. I have personally found bait & switch ads (fake roommate ads) on Craigslist for this company. When you visit the site it seems like everything is free: "It is completely free to post rooms for rent, view other roommate profiles, and send messages to other roommates." What they leave out is that you can not read messages w/o paying. $5.95 for 3 days, $14.95 for 14 days, $29.95 for 30 days. This site is a joke. I did take the time to report the bait & switch ads to the BBB, Roomster.com's response was to play dumb. The website Roomshortlist.com also is used only to redirect to Roomster.com. Beware of any emails that are *******@roomshortlist.com.

I signed up for a two week trial and was able to review rooms and places looking to relocate for a new job. After the two week period ended I was hit with a $29.95 charge. I however was able to get refunded even though I didn't cancel until the next day. I understand there were some shady practices in the past but I think this is a show of repentance. Certainly they need to make money and not giving you a warning that an impending charge is coming is kind of shady but their customer service was kind and forgave me my lapse in monitoring the automatic withdrawal. So they do provide a good service and you do have to keep track of when your bill is due but at least they're trying to change their ways. My only complaint is the inability to contact the actual renters of properties. When I was looking to rent a place I must have sent out two dozen requests but it took too long for those that did respond, TO respond. I'd like them to put a little more pressure on the renters to respond within 48 hours of a request. Only 6 or 7 actually responded but too late or not what I was hoping it would be. I would recommend this site but be proactive in managing it.

F*cking a$$holes!
February 11, 2014

F*cking a$$holes! I initially purchased a trial for 5.95. I turned around three days later and they charged me $29.95 renewal fee. I'm on the phone with chase now disputing the charges since the "24/7 Support" at roomster is a $#*!ing joke! Be very cautious people! It's a rip off and a scam!

I subscribed for a three day period. They automatically renewed and charged my account $29.95. After many complaints and threats they refunded my money. Just be sure and read the fine print.
