I have an extra room in my place thats been sitting as storage for the longest time but my rent recently went up so Ive been looking to rent it out to generate some extra income. I listed the room on Roomster after a friend suggested the site and Im glad he did. The process was super easy no gimmicks and I was able to find a young respectful student to rent the room. Would recommend to anyone looking to rent available rooms that they have. Havent used it to find a roommate so I cant speak to that part of the site.

I posted a rental property on Craig's List apts. For rent recently. Today I received this text message to the phone I listed in the ad:

" - Hi, the reason I'm texting is because I used this site ListToRent.com to post my place instead on CL and got it rented in just a few days. It is full of people looking for rentals and they don't charge you to list the place. I recommend you check it out at least to avoid regrets.

I stumbled upon your post while I was taking down mine from Craiglist after receiving a lot of silly replies from weirdos and was pointed by another user to this site instead so I am just passing up the good karma.

When I went online to check out this ListToRent site, the Roomster site came up instead. The whole thing stunck, so I did some research on Roomster and discovered they have a bad reputation. Beware people! Believe those negative reviews of Roomster. I can't believe they can get away with the things they are doing!

Allow me to bring te truth back to these reviews so it doesnt get buried by fake reviews again. This company is obtrusively evil. At least 75% of housing ads on craigslist are copupasted from some archive somewhere they sound sweet, theyre priced well, and you can *only* contact the seller by text. And when you do, you get an automated(though maybe its just some pyramid scheme suggested format) response telling you to go register at "enterfakeurlhere.com". It alwas redirects to roomster, and the sellers will never say anything except to go register. Ive had my chain jerked around all day trying to find a place to live. To LIVE for christs sake, and this awful company is making craigslist nigh unusable. 0/10 stars, avoid and report all ads who ask you to register for roomster(which in otself is against the craigslist rules of operation, on like three counts)

Edit in response to john s.: thank you john, for bringing your BBB standing to my attention. I will have to make sure i forward my experience to them. It only saddens me that theres no way to prove that the craigslist scam n' spam is actually connected to your company.

In the shadow of an offchance that ive made a grievous error, and theres really some company out there masquerading as roomster in an epic plot to sink them by flooding craigslist with advertisements for them... sorry, i'm losing iq points entertaining this ridiculous idea.

I do enjoy reading the surreal fabricated reviews though. The 5/5 stars that seem like they were written by a best selling author. Good for her though, writers gotta make money somehow.

To be honest, I thought she was going to be super cool when we talked over the internet. We liked alot of the same bands, and she didnt seem uptight. But, after a few weeks of living with her I realised that the only reason she's so chill is because she was CONSTANTLY HIGH. The whole room smelled like weed almost constantly. The worst part was that, since we lived in a residence hall, I could pretty easily get into trouble, even expelled, because of her drug problem. She also had a rotating cast of characters who occupied my room, smoked weed, and had sex constantly. She also frequently left her garbage on my side of the room, frequently on my bed. The even worse part is that shes really nice, so I felt terrible asking for a change in roommate, but I knew something had to give. I went online and started searching for rooms and found a really nice one on Roomster. After creating an account I messaged the owner and set up a meeting and we hit it off so I am officially moving in! Thanks Roomster!

I had the craziest roommate ever. So she moved in and it seemed great. She was normal and did not seem like a bad person. Come to find out she was Bipolar and was hearing "voices" and was only normal cause she was taking meds when she first moved in. She never did any work around the house after coming over her meds. She would blame all messes on me and if she forgot where her stuff was " I had moved it" and she would blow up. She would cry and scream for no reason. She started dating a friend and he started basically living here. He was a slob and did not clean up after himself. They would be having sex so loud I wake up to my bed moving and you could hear it outside the house. This is like 1-3 in the morning. She has a poor cat that she never gives any attention to. The cat was locked in a room and she only went in to feed, water and change its litter. Then when it meowed and scratched at the door she yelled at it. I am over it and I want to move so I found a room to rent in a house not far form here on Roomster.com. Their site had god reviews online and it seemed like they had a ton of availability so naturally it seemed like a good option.

My roommate freshman year was awful. It started off with her following me everywhere. Which I was sympathetic too because I knew people and she didn't. She then started to leave old food out and basically make our room unlivable. I mean we had a serious case of fruit flies. And her filth spread onto my side of the room. To make matters worse she smelled really bad. Oh and she stole from me. Not only money and food, but my socks too! It got so bad that I stopped sleeping in my own room. Eventually I decided to move out and found some listings for rooms online at Roomster. So happy I found this site because I ended up paying less for a private room then I was paying for a shared dorm.

I had the crappiest roommate ever! As an exchange student in the states I was looking forward to campus life as in my home university I had my own pad. I was given this nasty foreign student. She NEVER showered, left her dirty underwear on the floor, had never heard of deodorant, smoked weed, cigarettes in the room, would leave her half eaten cans of tuna/sardines/spicy curry in the room on Thursday evening as she goes to the city and comes back Monday! I used to clean the room every weekend because I was raised in a very clean hygienic environment and my mum insisted on it. She would bring her stinky $#*! friends in our room and they all would sit on my bed. She ate all my study-snacks after her weed escapades, stole money from me on countless accounts and even tried to cheat my friends. She would always say that I was uncool cause I refused drugs. I eventually got a single room on Roomster because I couldn't deal with her lifestyle anymore. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SITE TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS TO GET OUT OF A BAD ROOMMATE SITUATION!

I'm a freshman in college who thought living on campus would be really fun, so I got paired with a random roommate. She was the most inconsiderate person. She asked to use my ceramic cup for coffee and promised she'd wash it. She washed it when she wanted to use it again without asking. It was sitting on her microwave, filthy for a week. That's a whole week I haven't been able to drink hot drinks in the dorm... it's my only ceramic cup. She's drunk texted me at 1 am and 4 am and woken me up. She always left the lights on when she leaves our room. Even if I'm laying down for bed, she'll turn the lights on and leave. Twice she's come in late on a weekday and woken me up by turning the lights on. She turns all the lights on and hops in the shower at 3 am. I spoke to my counselor about getting transferred but they were all full so I looked online for an alternative. I found Roomsters website on Google and it looked like a good place to find a place. They had lots of rooms available so I got a nice one in my budget with an older couple and I am so relieved.

Roomster to me is a joke of a roommate finding site. I was looking to find clients for massage and came across some weird people on here. Some of the men I've communicated with are married looking for happy endings which to me makes the massage field look trashy and low class. The behavior of some of the people on here makes you wonder how trashy they make the massage field with them asking for happy endings when your client should want the session to be kept professional. Either way screen everyone you meet on roommate finding sites so you know who is coming to your place of business or your personal residence.

The way they do business is a bit sketchy, and the site isn't particularly useful.

Me and my roommate weren't the best of friends at the beginning of the year, but we sure as hell didn't get any closer when he got his dreaded girlfriend. He thought it would be really cool to just have her sleep over every night, never thinking of asking me. It got even better when he thought it would be cool to get a dog, also without asking me and have it live in the bedroom. Also I've talked to him about all this multiple times and every time he says it's cause I'm jealous and refuses to change anything, so when I realized compromise wasn't possible I started becoming completely oblivious to whenever they were trying to have "alone time". Now they hate me and have asked me to move, and I laughed and told them both that if it mattered so much to them they should both move. The next day though I actually went online to look for a place to live and found a room bigger than my current one on Roomster for an even better price! I was like peace out losers im blowing this lame fest. Roomster for the win.

If every site was as easy to use as Roomster the world would be a better place!

I had this roommate who thought that he was seriously a warlock. He would start chanting all this really freaky stuff... I think it was Latin or something. I was always cleaning the dishes, bathroom etc. and he would come out of his room, that stank like cheap candles, and I'd ask him to help out with the chores a bit. He said that the stars weren't aligned correctly or something stupid like that and that we were in deep trouble if he didn't cast some stupid spell. One day I was just really busy and was like "Hey bro, can you cast a cleaning spell on this apartment?" and he FREAKED OUT. I have a black belt in karate though so that got solved right away. Next day I went online to look for other places. Roomster had a ton of listings that were extremely well priced so I figured id give it a shot. Couldnt be happier.

I had just turned 20 and had planned to move to live near my family several hours away, when the job Id found there fell through, I had to quickly find a new place to stay as I had already given my notice at my apartment. My ex boyfriend found out I was looking and told me of a couple who would let me rent a room in their apartment. He warned me that they were untidy people, but I had no choice. I called them and agreed to take the room without looking at it first, because I was totally desperate. When I got there with all my stuff, I was horrified. There was dirt smeared everywhere and it smelled of animal waste, garbage, filthy clothes and B. O. The couple wasnt home, but my ex let me in and then informed me that he lived there too, had for some time. I decided to make the best of it and asked to be shown my room. Then I found out I didnt have a room, there was a single guy in one room, my ex in the other. This dirty couple lived on a mattress in the living room and expected me to pay rent to sleep on their disgusting couch. My ex offered a spare mattress he had in his room as an alternative which I accepted. He kept trying to get me to have sex with him and get back together, claiming that he loved me and would change. I refused repeatedly and just worked as much as possible. The female in the couple was needy and clingy and she would knock on the door at all hours demanding that I come hang out with her, which I couldnt stand. She was very overweight and didnt bathe or wash her clothes. Usually she just wore a filthy bathrobe with nothing underneath. After a few weeks there I knew I had to leave. I started looking online for alternatives and came to Roomster. Immediately I knew that this site would be my savior. After about two week I found a really nice private room to rent for an amazing price! So happy I was able to escape from that horrible situation.

For one long and sleepless year, I had a roommate who snored. He didn't just snore in his sleep, there were grunts, snorts, lip smackings, and various other sounds that defy description. Awake, he was generally quiet and courteous -but once asleep, the human noise machine made it difficult for his roommate (me) to ever get any sound sleep. I tried moving my bed to the opposite corner of the room and placing the dressers in between; that didn't work. Sleeping pills didn't keep me asleep long enough. The snort-o-saurus usually fell asleep within minutes of hitting his pillow, but not me. Sometimes during one of his marathon nocturnal "concerts", I'd bang on the wall to wake him up and then I'd lie there pretending to be asleep; he'd wake up suddenly and groggily mumble "what the fuuuu!?". The few minutes of blissful quiet that it took him to fall back asleep wasn't enough, though. I started looking for a new roommate on the online forums but eventually came across Roomster. I liked the design of their site and it seemed like they had pretty good reviews online so I signed up. After going through their listings I realized they had so many great options. I settled on a nice private room in a house that an elderly couple lived in. Best part, no snores!
