The company, Roomster, exhibits a polarized reputation among its users. Positive feedback highlights the platform's user-friendly interface and a variety of affordable listings, with some customers successfully finding suitable rooms. However, significant concerns overshadow these strengths, including deceptive practices regarding message visibility, a lack of genuine leads, and inadequate customer support. Many users express frustration over payment models that feel exploitative, alongside reports of scams and unresponsive service. Overall, while some appreciate the platform's potential, the prevailing sentiment suggests a need for improved transparency and customer care to enhance user trust and satisfaction.

One sentence? Only one word required! The site doesn't work. These people/person just ripping people off.
I'm really upset because a) they charge a LOT of money to use site for 1-4 weeks and b) I have sent several text messages to something that is clearly a computer program responding over and over with a link to roomster.com. This company is unethical and I will NEVER give them money. Sad but something better needs to come along.
We are sorry that this reviewer feels that we charge too much, We think that Roomster is very affordable offering rates at $5.95 for 3 days, $14.95 for 15 days & $29.95 for 20 days of service. All the customer service, servers, designers, engineers cost money and the fees that we charge allow us to maintain the excellent service that Roomster Customers have experienced for the last 12 years! As for the text messages, We are unaware of what this is all about and deny and involvement!
I had a great apartment, but needed a sub-letter to move in so that I could finish out the lease. When this girl Denise said she could move in AND pay all five months up front, that sounded great. The bad part was everything that followed. She was ambiguously employed and would be up all hours doing coke with her friends, sleeping all day, and generally acting like an insane person. One time, I woke up in the middle of the night, and she was sitting on the edge of my bed talking to me in a creepy whisper voice, saying, “I’m so mad, Julie. I’m so mad.” I don’t know what she was talking about, but I tried to usher her out as quickly as possible. Eventually I got rid of her and listed the room for rent on Roomster. They have some great tools for listing rooms and it helped fill it with a suitable person really fast. Would definitely recommend to anyone I had a very good experience with Roomster.
Being spammed with false ads on my cellphone to sign up not interested in the site as it has nothing for what we need
Roomster is not BBB accredited in NYC. BBB in NYC gives it a "B" rating based on customer complaints. See BBB NYC website concerning Roomster: http://www.bbb.org/new-york-city/business-reviews/roommate-referral-service/roomster-corp-in-new-york-ny-*******#reasonrating
Do not ever use this site. Was charged 29.95 after only trying a pay $5 for a three day subscription. Everytime I tried to find to try to get my money back the site says '4040 error site is down" dont ever use this site
We would never charge your card without your permission and authorization, we ask all members who upgrade to sign off the subscription terms twice before upgrading (no small print) we also send emails reminding you to cancel your subscription to eliminate any future billing, Furthermore we issue pro-rated refunds to all members. Did you contact 24/7 support before leaving this review? We have a fully staffed 24/7 support help desk.
Great website. Terms and conditions are very very clear.
A few weeks ago I got into a huge fight with my roommate. He came home really wasted at three in the morning after a night out and threw up all over the living room furniture! I mean it was so bad it looked like someone puked into a wind blower all over my furniture, it was utterly horrendous. I realized I couldn’t live in this situation and decided to move out. My sister told me that she found a really great deal on a place to rent on Roomster so I checked the site out and after reading some reviews online I decided to try it out. Ended up finding a really cheap deal on a fairly big room not far from my work. Super happy my sis told me about Roomster.
What can I say about Roomster other than it is super efficient, has a ton of resources and is not expensive. Would use again.
Roomster helped me find a room. I take exception to the opt in where my credit card is automatically charged $29.95 after the duration of time I chose to pay for had expired. If I paid $15.95 for 15 days, I should at least be re-upped at the rate or lower. Automatically charging my card for $29.95 without my expressed permission is aggravating at best. After the 15 days I purchased the account should revert back to the free membership level.
I am glad to hear that we helped you find a room, but just to be clear we are very upfront that Roomster is a subscription service, which can be canceled at anytime, stopping all future renewals. We had you sign of on the terms of use 3 times to create a subscription and send emails and notifications both on your logged in helpdesk and whatever email address you supplied to us. If you contacted our 24/7 customer service support with your issue a pro-rated refund would have been issued, no questions asked. Did you contact us?
Just to clarify. The BBB rating for this company is B instead of the A+ that they claim, so be aware.
Our Rating was changed from A to B temporarily only because the BBB asks companies to update their information one a year and we are complying. I think anyone would agree that a B rating is not a bad rating. B = **Good**
I have been looking for a place through craigslist and have found several "too good to be true" ads up. They always ask that you text, rather than email or responding through craigslist. It's a scam. You text them and they will text back a random link that will forward you to Roomster, probably with payment to them for the clickbait link.
Don't believe all these 5-sar reviews! Look at the people making them - 1 review each, of Roomster. Fishy, no? Some of them have a few more, also glowing review for other places. So strange. Almost like they were fake, or paid to bump up the rating of a place.
Roomster is a scam, just like those dating sites that have fake profiles send you messages that suddenly all disappear once you finally pay money. Stay away!
(edit) In response to Roomster replying - I've found multiple, as in more than a few, ads up that ask for you to text them, then reply stating they want you to register and go through a site. The link changes but it always funnels you right to Roomster. Interesting! I haven't paid because it is an obvious scam. You should stop your predatory clickbait attempts so people can find out themselves rather than trying to trick people into signing up. I am not discrediting any services Roomster gives in return for payment, I have no knowledge of that. But I do know people are attempting to trick you into signing up in exactly the same way spam/phishing emails attempt you to "verify" yourself through fake women asking you to sign up at a for-pay website "for safety."
We absolutely do not post on Craigslist and have no hand in this at all. We have great reviews because Roomster is a great site and we ask our customers to leave reviews to help spread the word. This reviewer is strangely compelled to blemish Roomster's reputation while not a even a customer... hmm. Don't believe this review. Its garbage. Please know that Roomster has an A+ rating with the BBB and we have a fully staffed 24/7 support help desk.
I used to live with this guy who would constantly blast the most god awful music until 4am and every time I confronted him about it he would freak out on me and I feared he would get violent so I just avoided him. In the meantime I looked online for alternatives and I found Roomster on Google. I created an account easily enough through my Facebook profile and it populated a profile page instantly with all my info. Within a few weeks I found a really nice room to rent in a beautiful building with some cool guys and it worked out great. So glad I was able to get out of my previous situation without much hassle.
Roomster was really easy to use, it took me seconds to register and once I did I was breezing through listings. I appreciate that they require people to register via their social media pages to verify that they in fact are real people, Ive dealt with tons of scams on Craigslist that emanate from Bots that create fake listings to try and scam people. I also really like how the listings have the continuous scroll function as it lets me continue looking until I find a listing that interests me.
Two months ago I was looking to move into a new place and my co-worker told me about Roomster. He said he found a really cheap room to rent that was not small or in a bad area or anything like that. I decided to take a look for myself and found that Roomster really did have some great bargains. I registered for a 30-day subscription and started browsing through the different posts until I find a few that caught my eye. After messaging back and forth with a few different listing owners I decided to go with this one that was close to my job and near my mom’s house. Happy I found this site because I had been looking for a place for a while and did not have as much luck as I had with Roomster.
After I had a nightmare experience with a broker who tried to con me I gave Roomster a shot. After using this site I can definitively say that anybody who needs a place to rent need look no further. Brokers will be a thing of the past. This virtual marketplace for rooms and roommates is amazing. Not only can you personalize your settings so that you are matched only with high potential candidates based on your lifestyle and habits etc. but the design is so seamless even my grandmother could figure it out.
I usually don’t like giving my credit card info online but Roomster had good reviews so I gave it a try. I was impressed with the responsiveness of their customer service and the efficiency of their site. No gimmicks here. Straight up roommate matching. If that’s what you’re looking for this is the place. I created a listing stating I needed a bedroom in a clean, affordable house in a good neighborhood. I ended up finding exactly what I was looking for after some due diligence.
My landlord was taking way too long to complete rather serious repairs in my apartment so instead of waiting for him to get of his $#*! I decided to take matters into my own hands. I went on Roomster after finding it on Google and started looking through their listings and found a really great guy who was renting out an extra bedroom in his place. He is the superintendent for an apartment building so he understands what it takes to keep a unit functioning properly.
I had to move from my building after they changed their pet policy and I could no longer have my dog with me. Roomster helped me find a place that allowed pets, they have a very efficient system for updating your lifestyle preferences and needs when creating the profiles. This way the only listings I found were ones that were pet friendly.
Roomster helped me find a really affordable room to rent rather fast. The site is easy to navigate and there are no hidden fees or tricks that they use to get more money from you. They also have a ton of rooms available.

Answer: These are untrue statements. We have asked our many satisfied customers to post their positive experiences about Roomster to counteract the negative, and mostly untrue statements posted about us. If you notice that Sitejabber has negative reviews of almost every company doing business in the united states. If it was all true, there would be no business left and everyone would be out of work. People never write good reviews, people love to be negative. Its sad.
Answer: Hi Aminah, Roomster did not post that ad on Craigslist, we did not create that link and there fore we can not offer support for it. This looks to be one of our affiliates, who should not be doing this. We will be removing this person from our affiliate program. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Answer: That makes little to no sense. Undeleted? What does that even mean? N you want to create an account after you deleted it? Go ahead.

I am sorry, you feel that way, but the site has worked for millions of people. If we had some information about your specific issues we could respond with more clarity on your specific issues, which in many times has to do with your budget and location, not our matching technology. Did you contact customer service? We have found that most people who write reviews are frustrated and being reactive, not pro-active. Wish we could have been of assistance.
