I only wish i had visited this site first! Unbelievable. My story is the same as all the others. I did read the site when i submitted my trial. They hide the subscription information in the Terms of Service. Which i don't know how that is legal. How can this site continue?!? Use roommates.com, they do not use any of these scandalous tactics.

If you think about it. There is no purpose to the "trial" considering its just a tactic to reel you in and charge you erroneously.

I had a friend who was recently wrongfully evicted from her apartment by her landlord. While she is suing him in small claims court she’s been crashing with me and we’ve been looking into getting her a room to rent. We found Roomster after doing some research online and read some good reviews. We found the site very manageable and reasonably priced to use, and they had a ton of rooms available in various budgets. We found her a room to rent in a really nice building after about three weeks on the site. Overall good experience with Roomster, would recommend to others.

If you are over 40 and looking for a roommate beware. I have been a member for almost 3 months now and still haven't found anything.The same advertisements are recycled. When people find a roommate they don't remove their Ads. I am going to have to end up going to an agency in NYC.

Wikipedia states the following:
All of Roomsters basic features are free; anyone can search for listings, enter a profile, and view profile information for potential roommates.
This makes absolutely no sense. If the point of the site is to connect renters and tenants, then that literally is the one and only "feature". It is deceptive to claim that "basic features are free" when said features only allow users to post or view ads without allowing them to ever actually rent a room without a fee. Just call a spade a spade. It's a pay website, don't make users waste time posting a ton of info under the pretense of any sort of free service.

I have chosen not to use their service, but I have received multiple texts requesting that I use an affiliate's link to sign up for roomster after responding to a legitimate appearing craigslist ad. I'm not an idiot, these ads look real and are blatantly deceptive advertising. If Roomster's affiliate policies encourage this type of behavior, I will hold them responsible for clogging up a public good (craigslist!) with SPAM

I'm trying to find a place to live, tight on timeline, and found that a lot of ads on Craigslist were ploys by Roomster trying to lure unsuspecting people to sign up for an account on the Roomster website. Dishonest deceptive business! Waste of my time and energy. F-U-Roomster.

I posted an ad on craigslist for a room to rent and within a few hours I had already gotten 3 email responses... all that are written very similarly with a link to Roomsters. I had never heard of it before so I began looking up reviews to see if it was a scam or not. Even though there are a lot of 5 star reviews... barely any 4 or 3... which i found odd... the ones that were 1 star were very intriguing. However what intrigued me most was the fact that an actual representative from Roomster's would reply denying any claim or responsibility in a very unprofessional, immature and rude manner. Those responses from Roomster's said more than enough for me to validate that they are just a money hungry company... trying to defend it's honor in the most useless, indecent way. For them to deny the fact that they aren't scamming or advertising through craigslist is complete bull$#*!. Nobody just responds back with a link to the main homepage of Roomster's so I can sign up. That's stupid and totally obvious of what your marketing strategy is. Craigslist should flag and block users like Roomster's from responding to actual real ads. It's just a waste of people's time.

I posted a listing on craigslist about wanting an apartment. In 2 hours I received 4 text messages from different numbers all promoting roomster. I never showed any interest in roomster and I did not invite anyone to promote their business or website that was not an apartment I can move into. I do not recommend

I never use any online services but Roomster was great! Super clean design and useful, functional tools. Great resource to find roommates or list rooms for rent. I never think a online rental website can take a major part in our life.

I needed a roommate after I got a new job but knew I couldn’t afford a place on my own. Roomster helped me find a nice room to rent that wasn’t too expensive. I love roomster. Great customer service.

My fiancé and I were desperate for a flatmate at one point and advertised the spare room, we didn't get a lot of interest so we let "Dave" move in. He told us that he would smoke outside and only drank socially, and he had a good job so we ignored his lack of teeth and unwashed headbanger hair and welcomed him to our home. Things went downhill pretty fast from there. He made it to work about 3 days a week, preferring to sit around downing bottle after bottle of cheap red wine and blasting heavy metal from 5am to 3am the next morning. He never ate or showered, and every time we got home the house stank of smoke. He threatened to stab us over the power bill (which we promptly paid and never mentioned again) and was prone to drunken rages. Eventually he stopped paying his rent, and moved out without notice two weeks later while we were out. We decided to change it up and listed the room on Roomster instead. This site was great because we were able to see people social media profiles through the site and get better understanding of their lifestyle habits before agreeing to meet them.

I just got a new job in Seattle and had to find a place to live within four weeks. I was looking at broker’s listings online but they all seemed incredibly expensive and I was not able to afford them. I came across Roomster’s site during one of my searches and they looked like they had a lot of affordable rooms. I purchased a subscription and started messaging some listings and within about two weeks I closed on a great room that was within my budget.

Found Roomster through my friend’s recommendation when I was looking for a roommate. Site was so easy to use and not expensive for a membership. Definitely recommend to people looking to find roommates online. Next i will use roomster.com always.

On my next roommate search I did a lot of research about the best place to find good candidates and I determined Roomster was my best choice. After creating an account and starting to look through their listings it was clear that id be able to find a good fit with the abundance of people they have on the site. I messaged back and forth with a few people before I signed with a girl in her mid twenties that was a nursing student. In a week i found a perfect roommate for me.

Roomster crashes constantly on iphone OS 8. 1. 3. Every time you look a a listing you have to reset the search filters from scratch, start from listing 1, and reload them again and again. That gets irritating real fast. The map doesn't hold search terms either. It's an amazing time-suck. Roomster doesn't work at all on my Apple desktop. I was lured into roomster by a fake Craigslist posting to redirect traffic. Super shady- like one of those sex slave rings which lures people on the internet as featured on 20/20. Apartment hunting is time consuming and tedious. I don't need to be jacked around. Roomster = not cool.

Looking for a place in san francisco and about 50% of the ads are roomster spam. I know as soon as it is because they send an automated text pushing to their site. It's deceitful and more than anything, exceptionally annoying.

To their claim that they are not responsible for the craigslist spam - They still are if they have an affiliate program that rewards that kind of behavior. Since it is such a pervasive problem, they should suspend their affiliate program until they can vet people who are doing things in the name of their company.

As for contacting you first: a) I did via fb. B) seriously? Even if I hadn't, I've seen your canned responses about how it's not your fault - much like your response to me. The only way to get your company to stop this horrible and disruptive behavior is to shame you into stopping it.

I came home one late afternoon to my dorm room in South Quad at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. My roommate Scott had a buddy of his over. The turntable was playing the Stones album, “Some Girls” at full volume. I noticed that my roommate was wearing my Levis because, as he said, “he liked them.” They also had both dropped some acid and were completely obliterated on that plus whatever else they had been taking. Also, this roommate used to like to eat Hostess Fruit Pies and place the half eaten ones on my books. I could go on but won’t. Needless to say I found a new place to live off campus. Found a good deal on a place through Roomster.com. I was actually surprised how many affordable options they had available. Would highly recommend.

Roomster was a great site for me. I found a nice room by searching on Roomster 3 months ago. Their customer service was so helpful. I think, anyone can use Roomster.com without any hesitation. A++
