The company, Roomster, exhibits a polarized reputation among its users. Positive feedback highlights the platform's user-friendly interface and a variety of affordable listings, with some customers successfully finding suitable rooms. However, significant concerns overshadow these strengths, including deceptive practices regarding message visibility, a lack of genuine leads, and inadequate customer support. Many users express frustration over payment models that feel exploitative, alongside reports of scams and unresponsive service. Overall, while some appreciate the platform's potential, the prevailing sentiment suggests a need for improved transparency and customer care to enhance user trust and satisfaction.

I am Mark L. Harlan. I recently needed to find a place to live closer to my job because my morning commute was causing me to be late almost every day. I found Roomster through a web search and was surprised at how many rooms they seemed to have listed. I registered for the site, which was really easy, and found a really comfortably sized room for a great price 15 min walking distance from my office!
A friend recommended Roomster to me. I am usually not prone to utilizing services such as these online because they usually lack security but after speaking at length with my friend who used the site I felt comfortable using it. After I created a profile it was very easy to find a listing that was within my budget and communicating on the site was a breeze. Overall positive experience and Im happy the site did what it advertised.
I was doing Google searches for roommate matching services and I ended up on Roomster, loved the layout of their site very clean and simple and all relevant info easily available.
I used Roomster.com about three months ago to rent a room after I left my previous living situation. Their prices were relatively affordable; anyone serious about finding a place will have no problem with their subscription rates. The listings they have are pretty varied in terms of area, quality and price and I think anybody would be able to find something that suited them.
Roomster was a great alternative to craigslist for me. I had been trying to find a great affordable room to rent but it was a very strenuous task. Roomster easily sorted listings based on my budget and helped me find the right room fast.
Decided to take a gap year after college to live abroad and found a great room to rent in Paris on Roomster, even though I was in the US communicating through the listing was very easy and I'm so happy with my new place! J'adore Roomster!
Roomster is actively directing spam at people who post 'housing wanted' ads on Craigslist. Within 30 minutes of posting an ad looking for a rental house with rather specific requirements, I started receiving a steady stream of text messages using Google URL shortener to hide the fact that they were forwarding to Roomster's site. They're not actually useful posts at all, it's all a tactic to get you to sign up for their crap service. The texts are all identical, but from different phone numbers. A screenshot is included with this review.
If you read through there reviews here on SiteJabber, you can see that a huge number of them appear to be blatantly (and comically) fake.
Stay away, and if posting a 'housing wanted' ad to Craigslist, stick to email responses.
I paid thinking it would be a great way to find a roommate.
I am busy and don't have time to deal with this, and want to warn everyone out there- use a reputable company! NOT them-they have no screening process.
I am writing this because I am frustrated with the way that Roomster conducts business and is able to get away with it. I believe that a legitimate business would be interested in helping their customers, and Roomster obviously is not. They are deliberately misleading and it is sad and disappointing that they are willing to take advantage of people in this way.
Completely misleading and probably fraudulent. Useless search functions (ie./cannot limit to particular neighborhoods), and misplaced ads all over - roommate seekers in rentals section, etc.
And so far as I can tell, the vast majority of listings are fictional - if they were ever honestly posted, they have long since been inactive. I made dozens of inquiries without receiving a single response.
Daniel, you make many claims that are just not true. How do you come up with your statement that "vast majority of listings are fictional" This is a ridiculous statement. Every listing on Roomster is user supplied content. They are posted by people who have created an account using 1 of 3 social logins needed to create an account on Roomster. We record an ip address for every account creation, every login and monitor all activity done on each account. The location of each property is added by the member, and is displayed according to the address entered based on google's address api. We wish you could have asked us these questions via our 24/7 support help desk.
Roomster helped me find a really affordable room to rent rather fast. The site is easy to navigate and there are no hidden fees or tricks that they use to get more money from you. They also have a ton of rooms available so I m sure there is something on the site for everybody.
After I had the most bizarre experience ever. Sophomore year of college, I moved into this house next door to where all my friends were living in Boulder, Colorado. I didn't know my new roommates, but they all seemed like chill dudes. They smoked a lot of pot, but it was Boulder and who didn't? My first few months, I noticed that a lot of high school students would swing by the house, then leave a few minutes later. I started getting to know my roommates better, and quickly discovered that they were among Boulder's most notorious drug dealers. They were cool with me, though, so I just stayed out of their way. One time, a family of authentic, off-the-grid hippies (complete with a 5-year-old boy named something like "Stargazer") came and set up a tent in our backyard that connected to our living room via a sliding glass door. They sort of occupied the living room and backyard for a few weeks, and stole $#*! Out of my bedroom. One night, I was sitting in the living room alone, and all my roommates burst in the front door shouting. One of them was bleeding from his nose. They ignored me and kept shouting about how they we're going to "go back and get those $#*! Ers" and each went to their rooms. A minute later, they all came back out with handguns and ran out the door. I asked to end my sublease early the next day, and I think the hippie family moved into my room as soon as I left. No idea what happened to any of them.
My college advisor told me about this great site Roomster that she recommends to all her students looking for places to rent. I found an amazing deal on a room to rent in NYC, cant believe I'm moving to the big apple! So excited!
THIS SITE IS A SCAM!
I've reported them to my CC company, Pay Pal, BBB.
How do we get them out of business?
I know a lot of people already said this but I'll say it just one more time, unless you want to be ripped off. If you already been a victim make sure you cancel your card so they can't take anymore money from u!
Do not use this "service". They are as villianous and shady as any predatory financial lender you've ever heard of. You sign up for a temporary memebership, and are then socked with a $29.95 monthly membership a couple of weeks later. After pleading with customer service regarding my dire financial situation, I received a snarky email from a rep who relished letting me know I "agreed" to this subscription.
As a former user of Roomster, I would strongly suggest that you do NOT join their service. They charge a nominal fee to use their most important tools (namely messaging other users)... which is an ethically dubious practice, considering that Roomster sells advertising on their site. Roomster will also surreptitiously CHARGE A SUBSCRIPTION FEE of approx. $30 without you knowing. Asking for a refund is a hassle; do yourself a favor and don't even sign up.
Plain and Simple. No matter how good of a deal you post you will hardly get any responses because hardly anybody pays to find a room when they can do it for free elsewhere. They don't mention that when you sign up so you're stuck with the ad you paid to post which will get no responses. Then I had something really F'ed up happen where I had closed my account and THEY reactivated it and charged me 29.95 for a 30 day membership! Illegal for one and completely F'ed up! I wish everyone responsible for this to have mutated and crippled offspring
Just awful. They charge you for something you did not agree to... oh they make it sure seem like you agreed - but you know and they know that you most certainly did not agree to a monthly subscription when you signed up for a trial subscription.
They have terms of 'agreement' -- but the real intent is not to inform the potential customer BUT to trick people into thinking that Roomster is actually a reputable outfit.
IT IS NOT REPUTABLE

Answer: These are untrue statements. We have asked our many satisfied customers to post their positive experiences about Roomster to counteract the negative, and mostly untrue statements posted about us. If you notice that Sitejabber has negative reviews of almost every company doing business in the united states. If it was all true, there would be no business left and everyone would be out of work. People never write good reviews, people love to be negative. Its sad.
Answer: Hi Aminah, Roomster did not post that ad on Craigslist, we did not create that link and there fore we can not offer support for it. This looks to be one of our affiliates, who should not be doing this. We will be removing this person from our affiliate program. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Answer: That makes little to no sense. Undeleted? What does that even mean? N you want to create an account after you deleted it? Go ahead.

This is just not an accurate representation of the subscription process. When you sign up you can cancel your subscription at anytime, even immediately to avoid any future payments. You have to agree to this twice just to get your payment to process, we do in fact send you an email reminding you to cancel if you do not want any future payments, this goes to your onsite logged in helpdesk, as well as the email address you signed up with. If you had contacted customer service, i am sure that this would have been explained to you as well as a refund offered. Roomster has live 24/7 customer service reps, so i am surprised to hear that you are not 100% satisfied.
