The company, Roomster, exhibits a polarized reputation among its users. Positive feedback highlights the platform's user-friendly interface and a variety of affordable listings, with some customers successfully finding suitable rooms. However, significant concerns overshadow these strengths, including deceptive practices regarding message visibility, a lack of genuine leads, and inadequate customer support. Many users express frustration over payment models that feel exploitative, alongside reports of scams and unresponsive service. Overall, while some appreciate the platform's potential, the prevailing sentiment suggests a need for improved transparency and customer care to enhance user trust and satisfaction.

Alas! The hunt is good and done, and now I can enjoy my new apartment. Roomster has been a great deal of help at finding Sam, my new fabulous roommate! I think my favorite feature has been the zodiac! Being spiritually inclined, astrology is a big part of my day-to-day life, and being a Scorpio, I was hoping to find a roommate with an earth sign, and so I did! Samantha (Taurus) has been so kind and she answered my messages right away, and having all my info already given on my profile, we were totally able to move the process into action quickly, and now it has been almost two weeks since I messaged her and I am all moved in an settled. Check out your potentials zodiacs because the people you live around will affect your day-to-day more than you think!
At least in the Boston area, they have trash internet people posting fake ads trying to get you to sign up. They used to be reputable, but now they're just about having people put fake postings in places like CL, so that they can make money -- without the posting you're responding to!
Roomster is the way to go! Just used it in order to find a new roommate for my loft and couldn't have had a better experience on any other website! The whole process from listing to viewing applications and interviews has been a breeze. My new roommate is so sweet and she also had a good experience with Roomster on her end. ALSO I accidentally forgot to cancel my subscription after finding Jenna, and was charged twice and had to request my money back, which was handled within the hour with no issues! All in all, A+.
When it comes to the roommate game, I am an MVP by now. As anyone moving into NYC should know, roommates come and they go, and so do you. Have been around this block many times before, and it is never fun. Once I got onto Roomster, I never looked elsewhere again. It has everything you need to make finding a roommate/apartment a smoother experience than the headache I used to endure. Have used it twice by now, and will be looking on Roomster Paris once I move there next spring.
When I moved to New York a few years back I was looking vigorously for an apartment so that I could provide some stability for my chinchilla, Chleo, when a friendly stranger on the subway directed me to Roomster.com. I found a sweet roommate within a week, which I shared the space with for a couple of years, and then CAME BACK to look for a new roommate once she moved back to Utah. Have now had 3 different roommates via Roomster.com and will be coming back next year too if my current roommate ends up moving away too.
I decided to do a 3 day subscription just so I could get contact information for 5 people I thought would be good choices. Well, today I checked my bank statement and noticed I was also charged 29.95 for a 30 day renewal... Thanks
It seems very promising at first, but do NOT waste your money on the site. The contact information is mostly the roomster mailbox & you won't get any responses.
Ness, We would never charge your card without your permission and authorization. You are required to agree to the terms of use twice, and because we don't want you to have to read the small print, We also sent a message to this 24/7 support page thanking you again for your payment and a reminder to cancel your subscription with instructions and a link "Your subscription can be canceled at any time. There is a link to manage your subscription right on this page. And just in case you missed that... we also send you an email reminding you... and If you log into your account and contact 24/7 support someone who will be more familiar with your account can help you... so before leaving this review did you even bother to contact us?
If you are in the market for a home share this is the site for you, they sort the listings based on your criteria and needs and make it very easy to find something that suits you.
Was looking for a room to rent when I moved for my new job and I looked on Roomster. They had so many rooms to choose from and the site was very simple and convenient, will definitely recommend to friends.
One of the steps for setting up you account is a credit check with an affiliated website that Roomster partners with. I figured 'why not? They're partnered with a major website, they can't be TOO skeevy'. Yeah no, despite this being a 'free' credit check they require you put in your credit card information, as in they were going to pull some 'free after shipping and handling' baloney.
At that point I exited the 'free' credit check without finishing it, I wasn't interested. I immediately got a phone call from a credit agency and over a hundred spam emails from creepy loan websites and credit agencies, all in a 24 hr period.
If Roomster really pushes you to use their credit score system. Don't do it! Ever!
Free credit score is an advertiser on Roomster and it is not mandatory in any way to use the Roomster site. Sorry, you had a bad experience with the credit check people. Was the negative review of Roomster necessary?
Is the error you will get 90% of the time you try to use this sight. Regret spending money on it as I cant use it. Would be great other than that.
We do not appear to be having any technical problems, as many people are logging in and using their accounts without any problem. Did you contact our 24/7 customer service helpdesk? Are you continuing to have these problems? It may be an issue with your internet connection, our site is working with a 100% up time recorded over the last year.
Roomster.com is a great site. This site helped me find a really affordable room to rent rather fast. The site is easy to navigate and there are no hidden fees or tricks that they use to get more money from you. They also have a ton of rooms available so I m sure there is something on the site for everybody.
I was impressed with the responsiveness of their customer service and the efficiency of their site. No gimmicks here. Straight up roommate matching. If that’s what you’re looking for this is the place. I created a listing stating I needed a bedroom in a clean, affordable house in a good neighborhood. I ended up finding exactly what I was looking for after some due diligence.
I paid for the subscription because it said I couldn't review all the inquiries for my room for rent. Well after paying, I went thru every message with a response and no hits. I suspect that most of these accounts are fakes and spam bots. I've used craigslist before and have used them again, with 10,000% better response as I have not had one real response using Roomster. Don't waste your money! Craigslist is free and you'll have a better chance renting your room or finding one to rent. The price roomster charges for a month subscription does not justify the quality of service, or the likelihood that you'll find any real leads. Buyer Beware
The tone of the positive reviews just don't add up. I would not be surprised if Roomster hired an agency to create the reviews. Many of the reviewers have a few reviews in their profile, but if you check them, they do 2-4 reviews on one day (to add credibility) and then none whatsoever again.
You don't even need to verify your account on this website to make a review. You simply need the same prepackaged fake review, make a handful of other reviews of the random sites Sitejabber presents you, and click submit! There are plenty of photos of hotel rooms you can use as images off sites such as TripAdvisor. You can also go take random photos off the internet. It's a shame you can use any reverse image search tool to find out they're all fake. Maybe the fake reviewers need to get more creative; the "story" type setup of how horrible their former roommate was gets quite old. Also the "and then I found Roomster" is too. Is Roomster behind this?
Nearly every single positive review for Roomster on this site and on others is fake. The Roomster wikipedia page also constantly gets sanitized whenever someone makes an edit mentioning the service's negative aspects.
This review is just ridiculous. We ask satisfied customers who contact us about their positive experiences on Roomster to write good reviews on the review site. People love writing negative and hateful things on the internet. Roomster has worked so hard to provide the best service we can, we are glad that so many people have acknowledged it. This reviewer seems to only want to read hateful things about us. why?
Love the continuous scroll feature on the site, easy to read listings and affordable subscription plans, very cool website.
I cannot believe I did not know about this site before! Anybody looking to rent a room or find a roommate needs to know about this site! Super awesome
Required to upgrade to paid subscription to interact with listings. Listings on Craigslist respond register with Roomster and we can communicate safely. Roomster offers nothing by way of screening listings or seekers of roommates. A complete waste and the process for cancelling is painful and almost impossible >>>>> HATE IT!
This review is really unfair, and not very nice. I am sorry that you are not interested in paying for your service, but we offer a much better user experience then free message boards and every user is authenticated by social login like, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, instagram and google+. Being able to research a potential roommate using third party validation adds a lot of value. And as an FYI canceling your account is as simple as pressing "delete". Taking the time to leave a bad review like this is just bad energy.
Emailed renter about an ad on Craigslist, got a request for my phone number. Received a text 3.2 seconds later with a link to roomster. The link made it sound like I had to create a roomster account in order to prove to the renter that I was not a robot. Created an account, and the renter never responded back. Once I had the account I browsed around and messaged some renters about listings. I never received a response. I did, however, receive a few "messages" from "people" requesting to be my roommate in random areas all over my county. The only way to access the messages is to pay a (ridiculously high) fee to roomster. They use bail-and-switch tactics to lure you into an auto-recurring fee for a site that doesn't seem to do a good job at what it sets out to do. Side Note: Look at the responses from the representative from roomster. They are defensive and don't really respond to the allegations of users giving negative reviews. All bad.

Answer: These are untrue statements. We have asked our many satisfied customers to post their positive experiences about Roomster to counteract the negative, and mostly untrue statements posted about us. If you notice that Sitejabber has negative reviews of almost every company doing business in the united states. If it was all true, there would be no business left and everyone would be out of work. People never write good reviews, people love to be negative. Its sad.
Answer: Hi Aminah, Roomster did not post that ad on Craigslist, we did not create that link and there fore we can not offer support for it. This looks to be one of our affiliates, who should not be doing this. We will be removing this person from our affiliate program. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Answer: That makes little to no sense. Undeleted? What does that even mean? N you want to create an account after you deleted it? Go ahead.

Lina, This is just not true or the case. Roomster does not post anything on any classified sites. We do have an affiliate program, and tell all affiliates not to post on any classified sites. If they do, we remove them from the program. This review is really unfair. Please check out our affiliate page where we have a warning to all affiliates. https://www.roomster.com/affiliate/default
