The company, Roomster, exhibits a polarized reputation among its users. Positive feedback highlights the platform's user-friendly interface and a variety of affordable listings, with some customers successfully finding suitable rooms. However, significant concerns overshadow these strengths, including deceptive practices regarding message visibility, a lack of genuine leads, and inadequate customer support. Many users express frustration over payment models that feel exploitative, alongside reports of scams and unresponsive service. Overall, while some appreciate the platform's potential, the prevailing sentiment suggests a need for improved transparency and customer care to enhance user trust and satisfaction.

I just got divorced and my boy had mentioned this service as he had used it before. Since going through a lot in the past few months I did not have a lot of energy to look for a place. I initially was supposed to stay with a buddy but when that did not work out my boy put up an ad for me on this website and I started getting replies. Experience was fast and effortless.
My husband and I decided to use Roomster to find a place. We are so glad we did! We simply found a couple of apartments we wanted liked and then wrote the hosts. Once we came to an agreement and decided on which one we wanted we contacted the hosts and ended up with a great place. In the end, it was a great experience and we will use them again.
First, they make you pay for a subscription to communicate with the other party. Then, once you buy the subscription they spam you with emails, some of which are scams. 3 emails I got an looked into for finding housing were scams. They had the same template and bad english. I can't believe that I paid money and wasted my time on this website that advertises scams via sent to your email. Don't use this site ever.
Who doesn't love roomster? There is nothing negative about it. Customer service is top notch and you talk to real people. That's all I want man.
Genius! Roomster started out as a way for us to find a short term place in New York whilst in the process of moving. Since then we have used it again. The website helps you find what you are looking for and functions just as expected. I will continue to use them for my future moving experiences or until the time comes when we decide to purchase a home of our own.
I personally love this website. Found exactly the right person for my apartment! All in all GREAT and highly recommended.
Someone at my campus posted an ad on the bulletin board with a link to Roomster and that’s how I discovered it. Went on there without ever hearing about it before and ended up finding a much better place than posted on the original ad :D hadn’t have found it if that person had not posted that so I am stoked!
I wish I had found Roomster earlier as I had a totally different experience looking in other places… For a while I had crazy trouble with tenants and didn’t find any reliable people. It was not good and I was on the brink of giving up. So far my experience with this site has been MUCH better and I currently have a tenant that is working out and seems to fit in, so I have to say that I am satisfied with my experience. Also website is super easy to use. A+++
Best housing website evvvveeeeeeer! I had never used it before and am thrilled I tried. I was in a very stressful situation and needed to find something A. S.A. P. You get a lot of responses, just saying - be ready! Happy that I got my stuff in order and now, I'm living now with two awesome people. Will be using again for sure.
I’ve only used this website once. But holy cow I did not expect it to be easy to find a new house! It took me less than two weeks to find a place and seriously not much trouble at all. I am now living with two (very attractive, not complaining) girls and a guy that I have a bunch in common with and he’s my bro now. I’m a happy dude!
I have used this website on and off for a few years and I wouldn’t even think of using anything else – It’s user friendly and delivers results always.
I have used other sites to rent out my apartment but I found I got much less replies then on RMSTR. It seems to be a go to website for people looking for or looking to rent a room. Whether its to share or just for yourself, people are genuine on here and you will find someone. I have been lucky to be able to choose the right tenant for my apartment who fits well in.
I used this website to find a room when I moved to New York from New Hampshire. I like how it is set up and how you can search in different areas it just makes things so easy and with a wide range of places offered. In the end I found a great place in walking distance to my school and with everything I need in the neighborhood. Everybody should use Roomster!
I haven't used Roomster much simply because I haven't found much that suits my needs there. I did however pay for 3 day subscription in order to message some potential roommates. I have never received responses. But the reason I am giving only one star is because I was charged $30 as auto-renew for a whole month of service, after my 3 day subscription was over. They say that apparently it was written somewhere that they would charge you until you cancel subscription. I am pretty sure it wasn't written anywhere obvious! I wouldn't have signed up for 3 days only if I wanted a monthly service! I wrote to them and they said they will issue pro-rated refund after I cancel subscription. Fine, but I still think what they did in the first place is bad business.
Hi Ivana, We would never charge you for a subscription unless you were fully aware that you created one. We do make you sign off on the terms of use twice, and do send you several email confirmations and reminders. Did you contact our 24/7 customer service help desk? If you had I am positive that you would be issued a pro-rated refund, which is our policy and keeping within our guidelines to provide excellent customer service.
They let you sign up without paying but then if you get messages you have to pay for the subscription. The messages I got just said "hello" and no one that I wrote to responded. I'm not sure if I just had bad luck or if the site is not legit.
Our site is a legitimate business, with offices in New York City. We do not have control over who send an email to another person on Roomster or what the content is.
This site is a complete scam and waste of time. I contacted 5 different users who all started off seeming great and that they think I am the perfect match. They all wanted me to contact their "family lawyer" which you don't need for housing in the state of CA(my mom is a realitor and told me herself), and to send their "lawyer" money. Which each lawyer is a real person I can find on Facebook, and most of them were old cashiers or nobody's. And everytime I would ask to see the apartment before sending any money or signing a lease, they were all convienently "out of town" and wouldn't be back for weeks although they wanted me to move in the next few days? Each email would progessivly get more fake and automated. It's total BS. Also, I was never able to find the people who apparently sign up on Facebook on Facebook or any other social media site.
Had to move out of my friends place after his girl moved in so I started looking for rooms on Roomster. A friend of mine warned me to be careful about finding a roommate online but after my experience I gotta say I'm a believer! Site was really nice looking and had a ton of useful features that helped tailor my feed to exactly what I needed. I went to meet with two different potential matches and one of them went off without a hitch. Moved in a short while after and I couldn't be happier. Would recommend, and will come back in the future if need be.
I’ve used Roomster two separate times now. Once when I first moved out of my parent’s house, and then again after I finished my degree and started my first job. Both times the process was pretty painless, convenient, and efficient. Subscriptions to the service were a great deal cheaper, and much more effective ill say, than going through a broker. The best part about Roomster is that I don’t have to waste my time going to see useless listings. I can find rooms that I like from the convenience of my home or office and for me that makes all the difference in the world. Running around getting everything I need done during the day is hard enough as it is, the last thing I need is to spend my time running through the city with a clueless broker when I could do it myself online for cheaper and better.
Had been looking for a room to rent for quite some time now but Ive never had any real luck. Always when I finally thought that I had found a place that would be good for me something last minute would always come up and id be left starting from square one again. I got desperate and starting posting online asking my friends if they could help. One person commented suggesting to use Roomster to find a room and Im glad that they made the recommendation. I found a really nice room to rent in the area I wanted to live in for a price that is really great for my budget. Would come back if I need to move.
I was unsure at first. Going through the process of finding people for your house can sometimes be a pain. No one wants to put a lot of energy into it, you just want it over and done with. I put an add up and on Monday morning and I had 3 people call me within a few hours and then endless emails kept pouring in. I interviewed people this week and by Sunday my room was rented out! Everything was so fast, efficient and streamlined! NO STRESS! And most of the people I met with were great. What more could you want?

Answer: These are untrue statements. We have asked our many satisfied customers to post their positive experiences about Roomster to counteract the negative, and mostly untrue statements posted about us. If you notice that Sitejabber has negative reviews of almost every company doing business in the united states. If it was all true, there would be no business left and everyone would be out of work. People never write good reviews, people love to be negative. Its sad.
Answer: Hi Aminah, Roomster did not post that ad on Craigslist, we did not create that link and there fore we can not offer support for it. This looks to be one of our affiliates, who should not be doing this. We will be removing this person from our affiliate program. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Answer: That makes little to no sense. Undeleted? What does that even mean? N you want to create an account after you deleted it? Go ahead.

We're sorry to hear that you were contacted by a scammer on Roomster. We do our best to stop these scammers from getting on the site, but we're not involved. These are generally foreign groups who create accounts on Facebook, Google or twitter, then use proxies to mask their true ip addresses to create accounts on Roomster. This is a problem for the whole internet, not just Roomster. Saying that we are a "scam" or "don't use this site ever" is just reactive, unfair and unjustified. Because it is FB, Google & twitter who are allowing these accounts to be generated. We switched to third party social network logins to solve this problem.
