I still had to pay full deposit and rental separately. What a scam. I really do not know what I paid this company for. No value for that money at all. This business should be illegal in South Africa. We have money problems and now to be scammed!
Watch out for their trick. They send you an email that the booking is not possible and 15 min later the email confirmating the booking. If you miss the second one no refund possible.
USA. Out credit card was declined, because the tried to charge EUR 3500 instead of EUR 300, which was clearly stated in the contract and TC. This was over the card limit. We had to use a second card to book/pay a second card, to not be without car on the airport. That was 2x EUR 1800 paid. Rentalcars did not refund the firts booking. We were not able to reach any customer support. They kept 100%. We issued a claim with the credit card company and succeeded. They charged rentalcars back and refunded us. Way to go!
The flight was delayed, I arrived later than planned, the rentalcars service worked very slowly, I couldn't even get to the consultant after waiting in line for 2 hours. Tired from the flight, I chose to go by bus. After all that happened I was refused a refund. Would not recommend this company to anyone
The "total" price quoted and listed in the voucher does NOT include all the fees and taxes (so in my case that added $111 more to the total. Very deceptive. And voucher was for Thrifty (one of the worst) which isn't revealed until after you pay (non-refundable). I will never use this company again
When I booked the car online I specifically chose this firm as the advertised product stated I could use a debit or credit card at handover, they took my fees online by debit card. The follow up email also confirmed I could use debit card for the deposit when i collected the car. On arrival at the car hire centre I was told I could not use debit card for this car/cover, and I left without my car, this caused me lots of problems. I then attempted to get a refund from rentalcars.com. Firstly I emailed Rental cars to the address they had emailed me from, i received a reply saying they don't accept email, I tried to use the "Manage Booking" link in their email but it did not work and went to a 404 redirect page, I tried calling and was disconnected. I finally spoke to someone on chat who offered another email address but it turned out to be a weblink that did not help. Back onto chat again and I finally got an email address. I emailed the address with a screen shot of the debit card offer. Jan replied agreeing it said debit card and suggested I make a claim on their site but with no link as to where. The saga continues. I wish i had read the reviews on here first
I reserved a rental car through this outfit for a trip to phoenix. I paid for the rental upfront. The fee was charged to my account, I checked. When I arrived the rental company would not accept my credit card. When I contacted rental cars dot com to try and understand what was going on all they would tell me is that they wouldn't give me back my money. I wasn't trying to get my money back, I was trying to get a rental car! Worst see vice possible. Do yourself s favor and don't even consider using this "service". Zero stars is the appropriate rating, they only get a one because zero is not an option.
Absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with! I asked for a price match in their online form. They didn't get back to me. I called and asked for it again. Was promised to get an email about it in 48 hours. They didn't get back to me. I called and asked again. They still didn't get back to me. When I was picking up the car the operator showed me her system which said that I should get a 25% discount. After my rental finished I raised a case to get my discount providing all the proof. They refused to give me the discount, claiming that it was some error. Very unprofessional behaviour and I am very disappointed.

I rented a car, a shuttle bus Renault Traffic / Opel Vivaro etc. and when I got to the place to pick up a car I was given a very small car with very little space for luggages! I just couldn't believe my eyes! I was so furious and my guest were waiting in the airport and I was terrible late because I had to refuse the car and I went to another company to rent a proper shuttle bus which cost me a lot of money stress, time and I was embarrassed in front of my 7 guests waiting for me in the airport!

Avoid! It's a scam! Don't be fooled by the cheap online price. It's a broker, it doesn't give your as much service/ protection when your book through car hiring company, especially when it comes to refund.
Once you made your booking and paid by credit card, they will not give your money back under any circumstances.
If you have time an energy to read and analyse all the fine prints and are ok with that then go ahead.
They bury everything in there to make sure they can make you pay extra or not to refund you.
Don't buy their insurance on their website either, it's a total duplicate with the car hiring company.
Before you book, the website will tell you that taxes and fees are included in your rental price. Once you paid and print the voucher, it will tell you that additional taxes and fees will be due at the rental counter. And indeed, my wife was charged another $132 when she returned the car, on top of what was supposed to be an all-included rental.
Rentalcars.com is rated "F" by the Better Business Bureau - the worst rating that they can give. Trying to recover this money seems like a waste of my time, based on what other reviewers have reported about attempts to contact customer service. I have used rentalcars.com in the past and I just hope I will remember this in the future and not fall into their trap again.
Dollar looks to take advantage of and exploit disabled people. We came to the rental counter at MCO airport in Orlando Florida with my wife in a wheel chair. The Dollar employee said the car we had reserved would not have enough room for the wheelchair as well as our luggage so he offered us a free upgrade to a larger vehicle. He went to his supervisor and got the approval for the free upgrade. He even wrote the approval and the supervisors name on the rental agreement envelope holding the rental agreement documents. We were promised no additional cost for the upgrade to fit my wife's wheelchair. Our credit card was then charged over $1200. We have been working for a month to get this error on their part corrected. We have been given nothing but the run around and now we are told they cannot verify the conversation about the free upgrade. They are calling us lyers even though we have sent them copies of the signed agreement with the free upgrade detailed. It appears to me that Dollar saw an opportunity to take advantage of a disabled customer and they did so. I would never suggest to anyone to rent from Dollar or their parent company Hertz.
Booked a car with them to pick up at the airport. Was cancelled when I arrived even though I had all the documentation. NO REFUND was given. Don't risk it and book direct with the rental company or a more reputable website. I took the risk and ended up with no car and was charged anyway.
Do not use this company. They lack integrity, I ended up paying double what their system was showing as "total price". Their contracts include hidden charges, which you will find out about at the rental counter at collection point. Customer service is awful, unhelpful and rude. Avoid like the plague, use another company!
They screwed up and cancelled my international booking the day I arrived and won't refund my Mondel!
Had an operator tell me I would get a refund, followed their advice, yet when I emailed them about the status of the refund afterwards, they then used some loophole to withdraw full responsibility and refused to pay me back...Instead of being able to support my very ill grandfather in the hospital, I was having to sent documents back and forth to no avail and then believe it or not, despite their dishonest and injust practices, they had the guts to wish me a 'good day' after saying they were gonna keep/steal my 91 euros.
I never booking rental car on this Company again when i booking total charged $150 when pickup car got a bills charged $176 call them no body can help?
The customer service is terrible. Rental company charged me additional fees without any explanation so I decided to ask rentalcars customer services for help. First, I discussed in a chat window on rentalcars.com website with a guy, I explained him the situation and he asked me to send bank statement via email. I've sent the bank statement and got an email replay from Monalisa (that was her name) who claimed she would speak only with main driver and asked me again all information such as name, booking reference number, pickup duration, puckup location and other data which should be available in reservation and which I provided through chat. I provided required details and got a replay from another guy who sent me again on rentalcars.com web site to "Customer Relation" department to provide all this information again. The worst customer service I've experienced.
I'm not going to use their services again.
HORRIBLE! I pre paid through rentalcars.com. When I returned the vehicle, Payless charged me again... FOR SOMEONE ELSES RESERVATION! I PROVIDED ALL THE DOCUMENTATION... both companies say 'you have to contact them' And now both Payless and Rentalcars.com refuse to refund me anything. I AM NOT LETTING THIS GO!
Warning: credit vs debit card scam
I used my Visa card, issued by my French bank to book a vehicle through RentalCars. Payment went through perfectly.
On arrival at Reykjavík airport's Alamo car rental, my booking was rejected. Alamo stated RentalCars.com requires a "credit card" to proceed with the car rental.
"Credit Cards" do not exist in France. My Visa card is accepted by every other business and car rental company I have ever used, no distinction between "credit" and "debit" is ever made. I was obliged to conclude a new car rental contract with another rental company at the airport and was provided a car immediately. RentalCars.com refuses claim for reimbursement.
Advice: book directly with a car rental company, NEVER through RentalCars.com
