I joined Planet Fitness in February 2021 after having been a member of a competitor (that starts with "24") that went out of business at the location I used. Planet was a good alternative due to location. So here are some observations, both good and bad, after my move to Planet.
Positives:
1. It's clean. Staff maintains a level of cleanliness that is really impressive. Hand sanitizer, paper towels, and cleaning stations are abundant. Signage is good to point out location of stations. Staff helps clean equipment and periodically 34rd party contractors come in and professionally wash, mop, and dry the floor.
2. It's well lighted and well ventilated
3. There are minimal announcements over the music system to interrupt music or interfere with concentration during workouts. (a very pleasant change after my experience at their competitor!
4. Staff is friendly, courteous, and professional. Planet sends out emails for surveys of customer satisfaction occasionally
5. Their phone app for touchless check in and features to gauge traffic at the facility over the app is very nice.
Negatives:
1. They have much signage regarding customers' responsibility to wipe down equipment before and after use. However, their policy is totally disregarded and is not enforced AT ALL!
2. They have the ability to track the demographics of their customers at each location and could base their music playlist on those demographics. Or they could even implement a system (at little cost) that would adjust the playlist to the average age of the clients inside the facility at any given time. But do they do this? NO! And if you are not 18-30 years old, the music on their playlist will make you want to puke. For anyone over 30, the playlist can be considered cruel and unusual punishment.
3. Customer concerns are not addressed in any objective form. If a complaint or concern is registered, do not expect to receive any feedback as to what consideration was given or what action was taken
Overall, I would neither say Planet is outstanding nor would I say it is terrible. It's adequate or maybe even a little ahead of other national chains.

I normally use a different Planet Fitness but I have a black card so I decided to use the Cranberry location because I was adopting a cat in the area later tonight. I was at planet fitness at 430. My adoption appointment is at 630.
After I entered the gym I went straight to the ladies locker room. When I exited the ladies locker room I went directly to the stair machine in front of the ladies locker room. The third stair stepper closest to the entry of the gym.
I was on the stairs for about fifteen minutes before I was approached by and employee and asked to leave the store for not cleaning the exercise equipment between uses.
I was not on multiple machines. I was only on the stairs that they interrupted me on. I was asked to leave the store for absolutely no reason. I explained to the employee I had not used any other equipment he said that maybe he confused me with someone else. Which is a near impossibility due to my heavy tattoos and long blonde hair. I am 100% being discriminated against for having tattoos in Cranberry.
I have never ever been treated this way in the city of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a loving community and I have always been treated with respect. This experience is shameful. In this day and age to be kicked out of an establishment because of the way that you look. There are cameras all over this gym. I can prove that I was on one machine for a few minutes before they kicked me out for not cleaning it. I cleaned it and left.
I am vaccinated. I am a social worker. I always treat my home gym with nothing but the utmost respect and would never not clean a machine. I was profiled and kicked out of this gym.
When I left I was in tears but spoke with a manager. He apologized but said he didn't have a corporate number and the only solution was to complete an online survey.
This company is purposefully making it difficult to cancel membership in hopes to deter customer in order to keep their membership payment. I spoke to customer service and was surprised when she said I have to go physically to the location or mail in a letter. I no longer live in the area and I would have to travel a ways to make it in person to cancel. When I asked what the letter needs, employee couldn't answer. What I was told was that I would have to make sure the letter is in before the next billing cycle. I asked her when the policy changed because I had canceled before and she said after they opened up again from Covid they were able to take cancelations over they phone but they have now changed the policy. I didn't receive the notice of the policy being changed or that Planet Fitness would begin to charge my account again.
I canceled my membership months ago. I even went down to the sh@t hole to speak to someone to cancel. This morning they charged my card 23.06 after months of not being a member. So I put my dispute in and I will be getting my money back. Be careful with them having your card information.
I had planet fitness when I lived in LA. I canceled my membership because I moved and was no longer going to the gym. 2020 right before the pandemic I joined here in Phoenix. Instantly, accounts were frozen since the shutdown. A few months goes by and I'm seeing charges on my back statement. I called they said I need to go to gym and close in person. I didn't even know the gyms were back opened nor was I planning to go so soon. Well I ended up closing that bank account anyways so I didn't worry abt it. 7/16 I decided to joined again and paid the $1. A few days goes by and I received an email saying there was a $10 reversal. On 7/17 PF ran my checking for $10. I called and asked why they didn't know said I need to call the actual gym. On 7/26 I paid the $10 plus $5 fee for calling in. The rep told me my account was current and no payment is due until next month. Today 7/30 received a text $10 reversal called PF they stated because there was a $10 late fee due to being my account current. Canceling my membership tomorrow, I rather pay $40 a month than deal with this
The staffing is bad especially the management lets employees disrespect customers. The manager let their employee harass and disrespect a disabled person thinking it was funny and banned the disabled eldery person.
The gym has broken instruments water leaking from ceiling. Employees are rude they treat there customers like scrap. People playing loud music on there phones. Bathroom is flooded woman restroom not cleaned. Complain about it nothing been done for week as per employee. Bought a drink at the cooler bottle is already open. Told the employee take another one same thing. Mis managed at this place.
Planet Fitness is one of the worst gyms to ever get involved with. The facilities are decent but their billing practices are unethical at best and their customer service is non-existent. This is a money trap. You can sign up online but you have to cancel in person or via certified mail. Beware.
I went to the Tigard Planet Fitness to join on May 12th, which was the last day to take advantage of a one free month offer they were advertising for new members. I was notified by the front desk staff that they would not accept my corporate credit card to use for payment of the monthly membership fee but rather they will ONLY accept checking account information for debiting these payments. This makes it impossible for my corporate membership. This also puts members at a disadvantage in the event of a billing dispute as the only way to prevent PF from debiting the dues/fees from your checking account is to close your account and reopen a new one. While the people at the front desk are nice enough, they have no interest in offering a resolution but merely pass you off to an 800 number. After numerous different referrals to different 800 numbers, multiple departments within each number and ultimately having to send an email to contact their billing department, I learned PF has no interest in working with customer needs to gain a new customer. It seems the "You Belong" should actually be "You Belong so long as you do just what we tell you to do". Be aware, it is actually a third party company that handles their billing and each department you speak to simply blames the other for their inability to work with a customer's need. It is just a ridicules runaround. Who has time to deal with this BS? Save yourself the trouble and deal with a gym who is professional and has years of experience with billing. One thing to keep in mind, companies are getting hacked on a daily basis. As such, wouldn't you rather a have a credit card to close and reissue than deal with your checking account exposed to NSF Fees, overdrafts, fraudulent debits? Remember, when you are dealing with PF at least two companies have your banking information. Double the opportunity for theft. Just something to think about if you are a business owner considering joining. LA Fitness and 24 Hour accept credit card payments without the hassle!
And eventually work out - if you have the time to wait for the "snowflakes" and 30 and 40 somethings to get off the equipment. At this club ( Parma, Ohio) they like to come in, plop down on a machine and text - some for quite awhile before actually doing something that resembles working out. I mean if you want to do all your routines, you might not get them done in one night waiting for one to finish texting. Other than that, friendly staff, a clean facility, and closeness to home make this place damn convenient especially if you have to wait for your machine!
You have to register your guest even with a black card membership. Which they deserve a courtesy. Total embarrassing for the guest makes the guests feel out of place. Never again.
These punks over charge, ridiculous one time fees, charged me during COVID when the gym was closed, it would be good if they charge by usage, but you're charged, charged, and charged, money hungry $#*! commercialized $#*! company, corporate creeps, eat a bowl of fat PF d*cks!
They charged $41.73 annual fee on March 1st, despite I froze the membership due to the pandemic; I spoke with the manager by phone and he told me that they will continue charging annual fees, no matter you use or not the gym; and also that you have to go directly to the gym to cancel any membership. We are having hardest time ever due to the virus; and they are not taking care of their customers needs.
Hampton Twp Pittsburgh PA refuses to cancel memberships for people in high risk categories that cannot go into the gym to cancel. Also for people who lost their job due to Covid-19. I have lost my job, could lose my home, lost my health insurance, and could lose my life due to Covid-19 but this situation is not a concern for the owner of the fitness center. There are and have been many programs to help business but they still continue to charge people who are significantly struggling.
I was working out at the Planet Fitness in District Heights MD at the Penn Station shopping Center. I was shocked when I was on the incline bench press machine and some idiot runs by me with sweats on and a black head band. I look up and this idiot is running around the work out area. Then he runs in front of the front desk, around the cardio equipment and back through area where people are using the various machines. My first thought was what the hell? Then I realized there are always fools that work out that want attention. The ones that scream and drop the weights so everyone can hear? Well this is the dumb dumb that just wants to be noticed. Doing defensive slides and stuff and hopping around people. This was so damn annoying to me. What was even more annoying is that not one person at Planed Fitness told this dummy to stop or to just run on the treadmill. If people have to look both ways just to get to the next machine, the staff are not doing their job. They will say something if your mask is not on properly right? So get off of your butts and say something about this. The working area must be safe at all times. People using this area as a track is just unacceptable. Does anyone know who I can talk to that can get this resolved?
I was a member of the Tallman, NY Planet Fitness club, which had to close down due covid. When they reopened, they expected all former members to come back as if there had never been a substantial lapse of service. I called and they gave me a month freeze to decide what I waned to do. Then during the month I called to say I didn't want to come back, that I didn't believe it was safe. They told me to either come in or send a certified letter. As scared as I was, especially being a senior, I came in to officially close the membership for my wife and me. They told me it was taken care of, and I then left in a hurry, since there wasn't any social distancing in the entry area where business is conducted. After some time, my credit card was charged $61.42. Why? Apparently the clerk cancelled my wife's membership but not mine. Okay, everyone makes mistakes; however, Planet Fitness refused to credit the $61.42. What a ripoff. And I had planned to rejoin after the virus. Please, don't do business with Planet Fitness in Rockland County, NY!
I love working out and I still go to this gym all the time but there workers are so rude and ignorant and always look like they try to not let you go to the tanning bed or are just rude in some way. There is one worker that is especially rude and her name is aleice I think (not sure)
I have been a regular at Planet Fitness for over 2 years. I have witnessed the manager change a minimum of 5 times in that period. With each new manager comes a new way to implement policy. Suddenly in 2 years of going daily, they have decided to nit pick about a supposed tanning rule. No common sense applied to their rule. On top of it, they show no proof of what their "new" policy says. The bulbs in the tanning beds have not been changed regularly in over a year, thus making the tanning experience not worth the black card membership. No log of light bulb exchanged is displayed in their tanning rooms and when asked to see it, they could not provide it.
Answer: They charge your card without knowing. Then don't refund it. Even also they will damage your credit rating. What a disappointment.
Answer: They come to work with a chip on their shoulder. They do not acknowledge that clients make their business. Instead, they belittle clients to try to cut clients down to their size. They are neurotic and mean and,of course, unprofessional.
Answer: No there is definitely no other similar companies to planet fitness prices
