Common concerns include a lack of responsiveness from rescue organizations, frustrating website functionality, and perceived biases against quality breeders. Many customers reported unsuccessful attempts to adopt pets, often receiving no replies to their inquiries. I recently adopted two kittens from tiny kitty cat rescue on pet finder and it was an easy process, affordable and they are willing to work with you, so many lovely kittens it was hard to chose but I've found the perfect match and they are the cutest kittens so easy to contact through phone! Thank you for my furry babies

They lure kind-hearted pet lovers into a net of disappointment and taking their money. I believe, based on my experience, that most of the pets they advertise are either non-existant or have already been adoped. Just recently I immediately applied to adopt a dog advertised and received a response telling me he was nearly through the adoption and was not available. Why did they promote this dog. Are they stupid? Callous scam artists? I believe both. Don't be fooled and disappointed. Unsubscribe from their emails and block contact as I have. Shame on you Jared Saul and Betsy Banks Saul

Their policy states not to fill out your application unless you can meet the next Saturday. No one responds. Dogs that are listed are not up for adoption. It takes forever to get a response, just to find out the dog is not available. 2 weeks later, the same pup Is still listed. How are these animals ever supposed to find a home with such poor management skills. How hard is it to respond and in a timely manner.

Recently my husband and I lost our beloved Spookey Kitty of 11 years to diabetes. Our household mourned, as she was loved greatly as our baby girl. We decided to fill the empty hole with a new fur baby. Spookey was a very intelligent black Bombay who my husband had potty trained and she was taught to fetch. She was raised from a kitten with our two dogs and loved them dearly. Once we started the quest to adopt another Bombay based on our previous experience with our kitty, we tried Petfinder. Each time we followed the steps to adopt a specific kitten, we received a messages back stating that the kitten were interested in had to be adopted with another kitten because they had bonded to a sibling. My husband and I lease in senior housing that only permits one cat. We reached out about another single kitty on Petfinder. We received a response from Nora Leon who was fostering the kitty. She responded that the cat had to be adopted with her sibling, My husband expressed his disappointment and ask if there was a way to get around her two cat rule. She sent my husband a ridiculous post about how treacherous a single cat can be when separated from siblings. My husband sent back the loving pictures and videos we had of Spookey assimilating and snuggling with our two dogs and us for 11 years. He let her know that we were not children acting on a whim, but a hurting empty-nesting couple who simply wanted to share our love and attention with another kitty. We have seen that when cats are adopted in couples or groups, they ignore their humans who want to love them. Nora basically told us Petfinder could help us and to try another site. My husband saved all of the communications for future investigation. I think it should be made clear when posting an add for a single cat, that the sibling has to adopted with. When people make donations to a site to help feed and shelter pets, they would expect to have the opportunity to adopt on of the pets they are helping to support. I strongly suggest donating to a site with better transparency.

I have been trying to get information on dogs listed with Petfinder. Having done the application and answered all their questions, I still have had NO response to my inquiries. Makes me think there is NO management. Do these people actually get paid?

Cat adoption
April 25, 2021

My mother always taught me if I didn't have anything nice to say to not say anything at all but perfinders in Lansdowne, PA may be the worse in history! I'll condense my story as much as possible.

I purchased my house in 2018 in Lansdowne, PA the only thing missing was a family pet. So we adopted a beautiful long haired cat named lover boy and thats exactly what he was a LOVERBOY! Sadly he had a feline disease which the vet said it was best we put him down and although it was hard we didn't want to see him pain anymore so we did what we thought was best. It was tough for us but it was harder for my daughter. Finally we adopted another cat in January 2021 and she was a cuddler and lover and very special because she had an extra paw known as mittens. During a event at my house she became frightened by some puppies we were hosting and ran out the door. We were shocked she never ran out the door before and we would have the door open often. After a month passed and I got no hits on the ad I posted of her I decided to adopt another cat and to my surprise while looking on pet finder I saw MY cat, fluffy which petfinder had listed her name as buttercup. I reached out excited like what are the odds I'd find MY cat? A older woman called me that night from a private number, it was 4/20/2021 and didn't believe she was mine and asked me to send her adoption papers which I did send however she never called back or replied to my email. I initially thought I was about to get the best birthday gift ever as my birthday was 4/21 however all I felt was more sadness because now I know she has been found and ill never get her back. The woman never reached out again and now I can't even find her on the website which makes me feel like they sold her. For this, I will always have ill feelings towards petfinders in Lansdowne, PA and feel like the entire organization here is a scam for money.

Dog to love
April 25, 2021

Ok since we are all on here to get a dog to love and part of our family. Let me point out a few mishaps that happened to us.
1, We did email about a dog that was up for adopting with Speak of Dog in Etobico. We only got one liners back or nothing.
2, We told them they ages of our grand kids no reply.
3, I admit I did something wrong with the application, but contacted them for help and gave my cell number.
4, No help no call.
5, we lost a dog because they accepted way to many applications, and never bothered to call us ones we e-mailed our application to them.
6, Please do not use Speaking of dogs they may be volunteers, but helping you out or answering questions is not on their radar.

PetFinder obviously does not monitor the organizations that post on their website. East Dallas Pet Rescue is not a reputable organization. The animals are not vet checked. They obviously don't know anything about how to determine a dog breed. They misrepresent the breed and age of the dogs. The dogs are not healthy when they are adopted out.

I found the database with the dogs useful but very disappointing. After looking on potential dogs to adopt, the following are my observations:

A different application has to be filled out depending on rescue organization.

We were interested in puppy and or younger dog. We were told on many of the puppies an older dog was required and no adoptions if children under 5 in home.
1) we are retired, the expense and care for two dogs isn't practical both financially and living in our home. I usually take my dog everywhere and two dogs becomes a challenge to manage. I would imagine there are younger families who would also find this difficult to accomplish especially financially.
2) getting thru to a human is another issue. I assume most of this is volunteer and their time is limited. I would find a dog I was interested in but they told me foster parents had to approve the visit. I never did hear on the older dog we were interested in. I found this morning the dog was removed from the site and assumed to be adopted.

We hadn't planned on going to a breeder but I'm not interested in trying to get a dog from this site any longer.

Improvements. One form to fill out for all. I think looking thru the applications most want the same info.

Rules on puppies and foster visitors needs to be revisited.

I have submitted numerous applications and made many attempts to adopt the alleged homeless dogs with no success, nobody ever calls back or emails. I finally realized that it wasn't the intent to put the dogs up for adoption but to collect sponsorship money based on a cute picture of the dog you really want. This is sad and trashy.

Three different dogs sold right under my nose. I made sure to put my filters on within the last few days I applied to adopt three different dogs and none of them are straight forward adopting they make you go to third party sited to file your paper work and then you have to wait on an email back meanwhile no one checks these emails and direct contact to the dog center isn't helping either they put you on a back burner every single time and they end up giving the dogs away to family or neighbors thanks for wasting my times filling out multiple spreadsheets from a different site each time JUST USE CRAIGSLIST

Carroll's asr
February 26, 2021

Petfinder may be informative, but how to choose a rescue organization?
I can tell you that Carroll's asr is awful, coaxing for donations while behaving like tyrants. They have special needs pets, while possible adopters are treated like an absolute intrusion. Rude, cruel, misrepresentative, full of excuses but begging for donations! Apparently they can fly away for weeks at will, as they did the day after I was told my application and privacy invasions would be done.
Don't encourage these people, as it's obviously all about them.

Like so many other reviews that I just read... Pet finder is the worst site to adopt on. There are so many animals that are in need of loving homes... but they make it so hard, with no response to any emails. I mean what does one have to do to adopt a pet... no wonder people buy pets, instead of adopting... Nice job pet finder for having readily available adopters giving up...

Petfinder states they are a search engine for rescues!
If you were responsible industry, you would monitor the rescues' postings
They waste the Consumer's time and energy!
Upper management should read all the complaints on this site
These rescues in their posted bios are not defining criteria, they will only approve an applicant.
They are have DISCRIMATORY practices of not approving applicants of
1. Age of applicant
2. Housing type condo, apartment, rental, farm
3. Type of breed to any of above
4. Not having children
5. Single applicants
6. Flawed practices of approving families with young children, when breed known to be herders
This is disgraceful.
THESE ISSUES AT THE LEAST SHOULD BE POSTED OF THE RESCUES' TEAMS OR COMMITTEE
POLICE YOUR WEBSITE
IT IS A TURNOFF TO SUPPORT RESCUES FINANCIALLY
I KNOW I WILL NOT PURCHASEVANY OF NESTLE/PURINA PRODUCTS EVER!

When you go for adoption tell them that you are looking to make an animal Happy, Healthy, and Sociably Content! You'll let the animal do whatever makes it happy (You'll be in Hell though). You'll exercise the dog everyday (Even if you are disabled). Most of all, You'll organize "Play Dates" at least twice a Fkn week.
These people don't know $#*! about animals and it shows. Really, It is a "Show". It's hilarious to watch the big dogs tear the $#*! out of their jackets. Watch them try to control the dogs by standing on the leash. All the while saying "It's a Sweetheart! City minded idiots. The only thing they have right is that it makes the animals happy to outsmart the "Handlers" every single day. Animals are laughing at the handlers superior intellect.

I submitted an application to be approved as a registered nonprofit to submit pets for adoption. I completed the application, took the required form to the veterinarian who services the rescues and submitted all. THREE TIMES. No response. The kittens were 8 weeks old, rescues, now still submitting followup with NO RESPONSE, they are 4 mos old now. I searched other options, don't seem to be any. Good opportunity for someone NEW to be an option. Followed up, check junk/spam followed up, checked junk spam. Contacted with many inquiries. Still no reply.

Do you really care?
January 29, 2021

About 6 months ago I signed up with this worthless group. All the dogs and cats over the years have all been rescues. I lived in Tacoma for 50 years and all of them came from the Tacoma human society and Puyallup animal rescue never a problem. Now back to this outfit. Your prices are horrible you must be making all kinds of money. Trying to get you guys to respond to the emails I sent you about different pets you NEVER RESPONDED. Now after months you start sending me more emails what the hell? You guys are going in the spam folder. And by the way I did find another rescue she's a sweety gets along with my 2 rescue cats and 2 other rescue dogs. If I EVER am looking again it won't be with you. Thanks for nothing and I hope your rescues make it out of your hands SAFETY.

Read the contract before you even considering Petfinder.
Reads like a bad Auto lease to me.
Amongst many other things, if you become sick or disabled you are not allowed to give your pet to a friend or family member. They want it back!
They also want to dictate how you care for it & pet insurance is a must, even if you can afford anything that your pet needs. This is not ownership, this is a rental agreement that would be illegal if an automobile.
In my opinion it is a SCAM! Big money for a rental dog.
Pay a bit more and buy a dog without a dictatorship type contract.
Or, allow them to insect your home, make random vist and demand a large sum of money. And don't forget to bend over at your own front door!
In my opinion, just another FOR PROFIT, agency making money off those who really love animals.

We rescheduled a time to meet the dog we applied to adopt before leaving after being told that the foster couldn't bring him in. Got a call the next day telling me that the dog had just been adopted! These people have no idea how to run an organization and I am calling our local shelter tomorrow to tell them what happened. I will be advising them to disassociate themselves from Petfinder.

Not happy with staff
January 15, 2021
Previous review

Made an appointment several days ago to meet a potential new pet we picked from their website. My wife scheduled time off work and we had to take our other dogs to see if they could get along. 5 hour trip for nothing! They forgot to contact the foster parent to bring him in and she was at work, so couldn't come. An entire day wasted!
