The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and operational effectiveness. Common concerns include a lack of responsiveness from rescue organizations, frustrating website functionality, and perceived biases against quality breeders. Many customers reported unsuccessful attempts to adopt pets, often receiving no replies to their inquiries. While some users acknowledged the platform's role in facilitating pet adoption, the overarching sentiment reflects disappointment in the service's reliability and engagement. This feedback suggests a pressing need for improvements in communication, website usability, and support for both adopters and responsible breeders.

I have been going back and forth with *******@petfinder.com. I have asked for management or corporate to give me a call and discuss an issue we have currently been made aware of. We received an email from Quality stating that we could not charge an application fee from your site per Code of Conduct. So, we changed our application within your site and our Petfinder Pro account. Our business website remains with an application fee of $20. We charge this fee because we were getting inundated with FREE adoption applications (100's) that were frivolous and a waste of our volunteer resources time. We feel within our organization, that the $20 fee reduces the overload to serious inquiries only. Once we receive and application, the applicant is sent an email requesting the needed information and items to complete the application process. When they are not charged a fee, the apps just sit waiting on their needed documents. Once they sit for 2 weeks with no response we have to move them to inactive. We have never had an issue with any other organization because we charge this fee to deter frivolous apps. We also put the $20 app fee towards their adoption fee if they are approved. I am not understanding why if she changed our app for your site, why we would be removed from PetFinder. Thus, the reason I am wanting to discuss with management or a higher up. We have used your service since inception of SRGDRR which has been 8 years and because we are the largest Great Dane Rescue and Rehab in the United States with a huge volume we needed to find a better balance on the amount of apps we were receiving in whole. Again, we have no problem allowing the adoption apps from Petfinder being no charge. We just need to keep it on our business website. Please advise and do not send me back to Quality as they are refusing to discuss or even assist in escalating to management. Thank you and look forward to hearing back from someone. I was told there is no phone number to contact, they prefer to hide behind a keyboard.
They have hundreds of thousands of cats that need to go to loving homes, but the fosters are reluctant to give a kitten to a home with children. It doesn't seem to me that they really care to adopt them out, and have some ridiculous criteria and credentails. Home would need for a kitten. We apparently need another cat to be able to adopt. How many cats are
Euthanized a year?! Save yourself and your kids the heartache and adopt local, from people who would love to meet you, and place a cat that needs a home in your care.
I don't believe that this site is true to its pets. I have tried 7 times to adopt a puppy. Each time I have tried I've never received ANY kind of acknowledgement, I had filled out an application each time. I cannot in good faith recommend this site to anyone. So don't waste your time. I would get my hopes up on a puppy and then be let down. In short petfinder is a waste of your time
I went into petfinder so excited to have the opportunity to adopt a pet soon as I've been considering for a few years and now finally the time. Im in search of a small buddy dog for my condo. All I've been met with is disappointment and no response and invasive applications with more no response. It's a weird world on all ends as I keep hearing the statistics on continued euthanizations of animals yet they make it so very difficult for good people to take in a rescue. While petfinder is simply a database, it represents these shelters and is filled with outdated pets that have been adopted ages ago. After this emotional rollercoaster (I'm only two months in and know others have been trying much longer) I'm convinced my only true shot at being a dog mom is to get on a breeder list or go to a pet store.
You guys have swindlers in your website you need better protection policies. They are selling puppies ftom mills or nit giving uour money back
Bunch of Charlatans I'm surprised they didn't want to know my inside leg measurement. Their forms is ridiculous, ": what do you think your pet needs most, reading glasses and a good light?" no replies I'm conv inced they have an age cut off. The are no use. Don't waste your time They don't reply, do they want to have the animals adopted or not They need to be audit\ed by animal services and then closed down

At first I thought that I would never hear back but I stand corrected. I am pleased that this site brought me to a fantastic organization. Thank you!
Regardless of the adopter, no contact or very limited contact. Tried to learn the ropes and learned to inquire, first, if dog was still adoptable, which apparently was not always the case. Was told dog was adoptable, filled out app and dog was off the site (fostered dog) 3 days later. Inquired if dog had, in fact, been adopted and received no response. One week later, dog showed as "adopted". Other dogs, never heard a word. But, have been bombarded with ads suddenly for pet products. If you aren't going to consider me for an adoption, don't sell my name to sponsors. It's unethical. I know these sites depend on donations, but don't hurt people trying to legitimately adopt to gain a few dollars each month. Very disappointed and will explore other options. Raised a rescue from 8 months old to 14 years. Have a fenced in yard, no young kids or grandkids, work from home and have excellent vet and references. Willing to have dog trainer help with adaptation.
Not sure where these dogs are going but I guess they don't need me as they have enough good homes and not enough to go around. Great for the dogs, but people matter also.
I love looking at these pets and they have great service to but they have a sweet dog there named penny and she is a boxer mix with a german shepherd I think I have gone there 5 times just to say hi to her so if you are looking for an older dog that is sweet and clam look for Penny she has been there since she was a puppy and I have enough pets but I think she deserves a chance to so please look at Penny. In fact, I go on this site as much as I can just to find Penny and see if she has finally found a forever home. She won't be there forever so lets be there for her.
This service is a complete waste of time. Their response time is ridiculously slow and any kitten I put an application in for was followed by a response nearly 2 weeks or more later informing me that the kitten I was interested in was no longer available. You're better off combing through Craigslist. That's where I found my perfect little kitties.
My experience was my dog was in a rescue, when I saw near his ad that I could sponsor him It made me feel close to him the Petfinder site said would go to the organization my dog was in and named that organization. I started hearing that the organizations do not get the money. I filed a claim with my bank, Petfinder contacted me by email saying that the organization would get the money in January today is Oct 23, so how in gods world wld their be a chance of any of that money going towards my dogs care. It's a farce is what it is and if I had not filed the claim with my bank the money probably wld of never been sent. Donate directly to a rescue not to Petfinder is my recommendation.
This site pretends to be about adopting out dogs but the so called rescue groups make their own rules. They never return emails and funny enough there are never phone numbers to call. They charge exorbitant amounts of money for so called rescue dogs. Save your money and go out and buy a pup from a reputable breeder. I complained to the Pet Finder site as well and they are of no help. They turned a positive experience into a bad one. Shame on you and the rescue groups that are affiliated with you. I'm sure the highest bidder gets the dog.
Home sweet home rescue in Mississauga is a horrible rescue organization. Dog adopted and died 3 months after. Dog was 2 years old and obviously they did not disclose health issues. Hansel was dog's name. We are still devastated and petfinder did not help stop them from rescuing more dogs and making money from more unsuspecting vulnerable adopters.
I understand not everyone getting a reply or approved, however there's something wrong when within an hour or two of a new dog posting the ad is changed to "not accepting anymore applications"
How are people getting an application in so fast. I feel like there's a secret I don't know about.
Already the requirements to work full time from a home that you own is tough enough to accommodate and now there's not even enough time to throw your application in!
Too many missed homes that are deserving by these pup pals.
I have inquired about several pets on this site and they never get back to you, then after several weeks, you keep looking back and the dog is gone. I will never utilize this site again, it's a shame, you see the reviews!
My hubby and I are active retirees (75 and 80). We have our own home with a large fenced yard and are outside working in the yard or taking walks every day. We've always had a dog but when our last dog died at 14 yrs. We decided it would be best to hold off on getting another one until we had taken some of those international trips we were planning. Now, we are ready to bring another dog into our home and have been applying for adult/senior dogs for the past couple months. Most times, we never even get a reply. Yesterday, I was asked if our adult children would would be willing to co-sign. I understand that your first responsibility is to find the right home for the dog but I'm really starting to feel that seniors are being overlooked simply because of a number. There will always be reasons why people can't keep a dog but I would venture a guess that more dogs are returned from young, dynamic families than from stable senior citizens.
I have tried adopting dogs in the last few months over 20 times and never heard anything back. They act like there's so many dogs in need of homes yet I fit the perfect criteria and got nothing back. I reached out multiple times and donated money as well. I'll stop wasting my time, super unprofessional.
Horrible service. The chat function sent me to a scam email service to reset my password. The email service company wanted $1 to reset my password which would automatically sign me up for a $46/moth service that I would have to opt-out of at a later date to end. The chat agent (definitely a BOT, I think) ended the chat without asking me - just sent me to the email services. Honestly, there is no way I would trust a company with this kind of customer service (not even a customer service phone number - only BOT chats) and practices with dogs. Dogs deserve better.
I contacted Petfinders more than a month ago with a full application of my desires and qualification. I started receiving notices of pets that I definitely was interested in. I filled out many applications for many pets allegedly available at various shelters and got NOT ONE response. I was however inundated with requests to "sponsor" various pets or donate to various places. I contacted Petfindersand asked why I did not even receive any notices that the dogs I applied for were not available - just NOTHING. I would not recommend this service at all if you are serious about finding a pet.
They rejected our applications with no context there wasn't anything wrong with the application! We have a dog with separation anxiety and needs a friend after our chihuahua passed away and they say that's not good enough?
Answer: Not sure if Petfinders does this but AdoptaPet.com does.
Answer: They may be a legitimate site but they make it extremely difficult to use and arbitrarily refuse to allow you to use their platform. We started the process to list our foster rescues and it was so horrible that we looked up their reviews. We read many reviews of rescues that were taken down without warning or any reason. They use their staple response of: "We have determined that your group is not eligible for Petfinder membership at this time. Our Terms of Service state that eligibility for membership is determined at the sole discretion of Petfinder."
Answer: The only answer you will ever get is "contact the place/person you got the animal from or who has the animal". NOTHING ELSE.
