ALWAYS OVERPRICED :(
November 16, 2019

I feel like Pep boys takes advantage of the fact that there isnt much competition. They have the parts and do the labor at their facilities; however, they are ALWAYS CHARGING WAY OVER ANYONE ELSE! Its disheartening, I need a new battery for my car they want to charge me $178 which is insane. My car is 10yrs old, and I can buy this same battery for half the price anywhere else. BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO HV TO INSTALL IT. I guess to save the money I'll hv my husband use the 2 tools n 5 mins it'll take to put it in :) Like I said disheartening because they advertise FREE INSTALLMENTS BUT ITS NOT FREE THATS WHY THEY CHARGE DOUBLE. IM DONE WITH PEP BOYS

I trust them telling me my brakes where good. I wouldn't go to pep boy. Very disappointed with their service. I wish i would have read this review earlier.

I brought my van in to have a slow leak in a brake line repaired. The service manager went into the shop and asked the mechanic how long it would take for me to get an estimate. While I waited in the store. The manager was verbally attacked by the mechanic. He had is lot to do and I would have to wait in line like everyone else, he screamed and cursed for several minutes. I heard every word that was said about me to the manager. I felt embarrassed and humiliated for the manager. I apologized for asking him to see how long the wait would be. The nice manager said that's ok he's just in a bad mood. I was told I would get a phone call with an estimate in 60-90 min from 9:30 am. So I left. I received no phone calls, it was 2:30 pm. so I reached out to the mgr. He said they just brought the van in. He would call me back in 15 min. 1 hour later I got an estimate of over $1,100.00 I said absolutely not. I'll come get my van. He said OK. I go in the store I was handed my keys. I asked where is the van? The other service guy said one min. We have to push it out. I said "push it out" I drove it 8 miles here. He said it's unsafe to drive. I said ok. Thinking they didn't want to drive it w a slow leak. I walked around the building get in my van, and the brake line is completely blown. I went inside and said what happened to the brake line. He said it broke. I was never told it was worse than when I brought it in. I called pep boys customer service and brought it to their attention. They put me in contact with the area director. I thought Nicole would resolve the matter. She spoke to the service manager several times. And my van is still unfixed sitting in the parking lot of the store. All I want is to have it returned the way I brought it in. I wanted to post my estimate as credible info but I was refused a copy of my first estimate for $1,100 for a repair to a slow leak in my brake line from the service sales man. Nicole said if I pay for the parts they will charge me one hour of labor not two hours. (As per the manager) Still no calls back from anyone about the cost to do the repair I originally wanted. A slow leak fixed in a brake line.

Worst experience ever!
August 29, 2019

This company is no longer the company we all grew up adoring! The service is so horibble! I ordered 2 tires online since the 19th of August and they kept telling me the said item hasn't shipped or left the warehouse since the 19th of August 2019You will be lucky to reach them on the phone, and even when you do, they will disconnect the phone and have you call over and over again! Calling a local store isn't ideal either. I called the local store in williamstown and asked for the customer service phone# for online ordering, he literally told me he doesn't know the number! Not kidding! He doesn't know the phone#. You are better off taking your vehicle to the dealership or other vendor. Save yourself the headache. They have a bunch of untrained new mechanics and their price is usually not far off from dealership price. Factor in that they installed aftermarket parts which are usually a lower grade than the oem parts! I will never patronize this scam artists anymore.Am sure they are under new ownership because this new dodgy ways started about 2 years ago. Also coincided with alot of franchise owners selling off and new unscrupulous fellows coming on!

We took our only vehicle in to get a noise around the tires looked at. They thought it was one thing but it was something else. No biggie. Got it fixed drove home had my husband test drive it. A new sound appeared. My husband drove it back and barely made it. The looked at it and said it was the transmission lines and they were leaking for a long time. I have no leaks in my driveway or anywhere i park. I had to have my van towed to a shop to have them look it over. My transmission is shot and there is no problem with the lines. Now I can not get anyone in corporate to return calls. The whole company is a scam. BUYER BEWARE.

Putting two stars because the mechanics are doing a great job with my car but the customer service is unpleasent. One time i have yo wait 8 hours for a change of oil even with appointment and most of the times you have to wait for 4 hours. Right now i am getting my car they told me to wait and hour and a half, so i came in two hours and nothing and before they have a customer before me and they told them 1 hour BECAUSE IT WAS A REGULAR CUSTOMER... I AM REGULAR CUSTOMER AND I'VE BEEN TREAT DEFFERENT SINCE I START BEEN HERE, so if you are not friends of them they put your car at last even with appointment very unprofessional bussiness

Cheap products, crap service department. Check the prices on the retail side and compare it to the service cost. They charge you 3 times more for the same product. Also check the dates on the crappy tires and batteries they sell.

Took my car in for emergency brake shoe replacement. Nothing more. Estimate was $100 plus parts. Estimate time needed, two hours (book time). 8 hours later, price was $1100. With no answers as to how it jumped. Parts swappers (the pep boys on hwy 6 at 529 has no mechanics) said I needed new rear rotor/drums (existing ones had 15k miles on them). New cables, and that they couldn't let the car back on the street in such condition. I sucked it up and paid the $1100. With the provismo that I would take the old parts to nissan for inspection. All parts passing factory inspection would be reinstalled by pep boys at no charge, and un necessarily installed parts and labor would be refunded by manager- agreed. Nissan inspected the rotor drums and cables replaced by pep boys. All components were well within factory spec. Cables were incorrectly installed by pep boys, emergency brake shoes were incorrectly adjusted, and new cables were not adjusted at all. (Pep boys didn't know how to adjust the emergency brakes). Took car back to pep boys 2 days later. Gave the manager the nissan phone number. Manager refused to call nissan. Refused to comply with agreement. Said it had been over 24 hours, so they couldn't correct any of their errors. Sales person took me aside and showed me how to adjust brake cables that pep boys manager, and parts swapper said was not possible, and didn't exist. Time required... 1 minute to adjust. So I'm out 7 hours plus the nissan visit, and out $900 dollars. Run, don't walk away from this pep boys!

They used to be a reliable place to get car repairs at a reasonable price. Not anymore. I've experienced worst customer service recently I made an appointment and when I arrived they told me they were booked for the day, as if it's not a big deal for them. I am very upset at the fact that this happened.

CROOKED
April 16, 2019

The Pep Boys in Pleasant Hills, a suburb of Pittsburgh, is crooked beyond belief. They practice double-billing. For example, it costs an hour of labor ($110) for replacement of a brake hose. Since it only takes a few seconds to actually replace a brake hose, you are paying for removal and reassembly of the brake pad and caliper. That's fine. But if the pad, rotor, caliper, etc. is already apart for replacement they will add $110 labor to the hundreds of dollars of labor for the other work! I took it to a higher level of the company and got my money back but that's not the point; they were caught trying to cheat me. Stay away.

RIP OFF!
April 14, 2019

Well Pep Boys here you go! First- you charge $145 an hour in labor, ridiculous! I'm in Staten island and other mechanics charge $95 an hour. You're going to lose a lot of business because people here are looking elsewhere. You've lost a lot of clients already on Bloomingdale Rd. Next to Dunkin donuts. You should really do something about your rates because Pepboys isn't all it's cracked up to be! I had to give a rating of one. To bad there wasn't a zero option... That would have been my choice as many others.

I scheduled an appointment which I promptly kept. I had an Alternator installed and the battery light was turning on and off. I had the battery checked at the place i had purchased it and it was OK. I sat around for an hour and half until someone finally asked me what i was doing there and 10 minutes later i was told the alternator was OK. Not a very professional group

Worst PepBoy Center
April 2, 2019

Worst pep boys service center in the area. Absolutely no communication among crews and poor customer service.

I booked an appointment on 3/30 and received appointment confirmation email. After arrival at 5pm on 3/30, I was told by a person at Service center, that they had few cars taking excessive time for inspection as a result they are not available at this time and asked me to reschedule for later. So I rescheduled my appointment for next day 3/31 at 10am. I arrived at 10am and women at service desk took enormous amount of time to even greet me. Anyways, I was told that it will take 1 to 1.5 hours for the state inspection and she asked me whether I'll be dropping off or waiting. I told her I would prefer to wait if it's going to take 1 to 1.5 hours. So she said she would call me when the car is ready. After 2.5 hours of wait, I didn't get any call so I called them and came to know that my car is just sitting out there. No one has started the inspection and the person on phone told me that there must have been some communication gap as they have lots of cars lined up for inspection so it will take more hours to get it done. I instantly came to the service center and asked the lady what exactly is the issue here. She said there must be more cars waiting, she do not know. So why did she gave 1.5 hours estimated time if she wasn't sure and why did she not call me if it's going to take more time?

As I said, very poor customer service. I took my keys and decided NOT to get the inspection done at PepBoys. I would rather go to a local service center who are family owned and value customer's time.

I already sent all details to pepsocial email address so dont bother replying unless you have definite response..

Next!
February 28, 2019

I stopped in to see if they could look at my car and see why I have an oil leak? I have a 2005 Nissan, Murano with 112,000 miles. The service guy said, it might take a while so I set up a service appointment for a week later at 12:00 noon. I mentioned, since my appointment is at lunch time, would that be a problem? He said, that wouldn't be an issue.

I arrived at the appointed time and they said, since I have an appointment I was next up. 30 minutes later, they still had not even looked at my car so I checked the status. The service guy said, they are a little backed up and I would be next. 45 min after my appointment time they finally moved my car into the service bay. At 1:15 the service guy showed me an estimate for the items they found ($3,796). I asked questions and the service manager couldn't answer them so I asked to speak to the mechanic. Instead, another service man came to answer my questions but frankly, his answers didn't make any sense either, so I asked if the mechanic could show me what's wrong. By that time, the mechanic had already pulled another car into the service bay and my car was in the parking lot. So now I had to wait until a service bay was empty to put my car up on the lift. At 2:30 my car was pulled into another service bay and the mechanic was ready to show me the items that were noted on the estimate.

Looking under the car was very helpful and the service guy did a good job showing and explaining the repairs needed. While I was paying for the vehicle inspection, an argument broke out in the store over one service person stealing another's customer. I had to remind the three service personal that perhaps this is something they would be better off discussing when customers were not around. I finally left Pep Boys at 2:50, almost 3 hours just to get an estimate and explanation of the repairs need.

Honestly, just observing their operation and way they do business was enough for me. I'm not going to trust them to repair my car. I won't be back!
