PayPal Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company reflects significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding its customer service and support. Many reviews highlight frustrations with delayed transactions, ineffective resolution of disputes, and a lack of proactive communication. Customers frequently report feeling unsupported in cases of fraud or issues with received goods. However, some positive sentiments emerge, particularly regarding the perceived reliability of PayPal as a payment method for certain transactions, which customers associate with enhanced buyer protection. Despite this, the overwhelming trend indicates a critical need for improvement in customer service responsiveness and dispute resolution processes.

Why NOt to use PayPal
December 26, 2019

Why you should not use PayPal (UK)

We have been using PayPal for years without any issues.

Last week for the first time PayPal notified us of a suspicious transaction on our account that they were investigating. We looked at our recent transactions and there were two fraudulent transactions. We advised them of both fraudulent transactions. So far so good.

They advised us that they would refund one of the transactions, but the second (the transaction they had originally notified us of) was legitimate.

They closed the case in the resolution centre and there was no way (online) to get any further assistance. We contacted them by phone, they agreed to reopen the case, and we explained that both transactions were at similar times and for similar goods. Goods that we had no history of purchasing. They had no explanation for why one of the transactions had been refunded but not the other.

We contacted the seller and they advised they couldn't help and we had to speak to PayPal.

PayPal re-investigated and advised (once again) that the transaction was legitimate.

We have had fraudulent transactions on our debit and credit cards on a number of occasions over the last 20 years, in every case the money was refunded without any issues.

We investigated what our rights are "PayPal v's Debit Card v's Credit card". In the UK you have statutory protection for credit card purchases over £100 (Section 75) and a number of debit cards also include protection. But PayPal includes no statutory protection, if a transaction is via PayPal you lose the protection provided by your Debit / Credit cards.

We are still trying to convince PayPal that this transaction is fraudulent but we hold out little hope.

We are in the process of closing down our PayPal accounts and will now use alternative methods for paying for goods.

PayPal is very convenient, seems secure, but if you have a fraud issue you are completely at the mercy of whether PayPal agree it's a fraudulent transaction. This fraudster has happily got away with £90.

I used paypal to process an online transaction for my new startup business. I am currently using ZipBooks for invoices and I decided to go with Paypal to process their payment over Stripe or Square. However, little did I know that Paypal charges a 2.9% transactional fee without any mention.

The other online services (Stripe and Square) made sure that they were very clear about the transactional fee that was associated with the transaction. I feel this is very deceptive practice as on a $4,768.00 CAD invoice, I had to a pay $138.57 fee. Merry Christmas and take my money I guess, thanks for nothing Paypal - scummy business practice! Beware.

I purchased the advertised motorcycle helmet. I received a tin can push bike helmet from China. I filed a complaint. Paypal instructed me to return the item. They gave me an address written in Chinese characters, without translation. Australia Post would not accept the address. There was not way of contacting Paypal to get a proper address in English without providing a tracking code. Paypal cancelled my dispute because I did not provide a tracking code. There is no avenue for review. The vendor makes fraudulent claims worldwide, knows that the system is flawed, knows how to avoid the process, and Paypal support this fraudulent activity by complacency.

My PayPal account is since 10 year with perfect record, never did something intentional against theirs policy and rules. Now they Limited my account without any explanation or visible reason. No one want to help me or ether respond to my request!
I have previously requested a review/appeal of my case which was denied. Although i still disagree with the decision to deny my appeal i will abide by it however because i feel that holding my founds for 180 days for a non- fraudulent violation of Paypal Acceptable Use Policy is excessive and perhaps a punitive abuse of power.
That is the worst experience i ever had so far.
Paypal policy and theirs customer service are absolutely not acceptable! They do discriminating our civil rights!

I just wanted to post a warning about Paypal. A site that, until now, I have had full faith in! They are known for being a safe way to make purchases online-probably the main reason we all use them, right?
Last week I learnt that 'A' PayPal account is taking a direct debit out of my bank account without my permission. The only information I can see on my bank statement is 'PayPal account direct debit' and the amount.
Naturally, I have checked my PayPal account to see where the money was going but there is no record of this YEAR LONG direct debit. I have lost near £400 in total so far.
However, PayPal are not prepared to help me with the matter. They have simply written to my bank to say that I authorised the activity. DESPITE there being no record of the activity in my PayPal account at all! I am appalled.

They seem incapable of understanding that the PayPal Account that is taking MY Money from my bank account is not linked to me in anyway!

I feel as though there is no way of me getting this money back. I feel incredibly let down by PayPal. The company that is meant to keep money safe.

I will be deleting my PayPal account and instructing my bank to not authorise any activity through PayPal in the future.

I will also be warning all of my family and friends about PayPals lack of interest in the fraudulent activity on my account and advising them to also stop using it.

Buyers Beware
December 7, 2019

Paypal no longer supports the buyer, I ordered a quilt from TEXAS, I received something you can loosely describe as a quilt, not even close to what I ordered. The item is cheap, not homemade, not the materials described in the advertisement. I looked for reviews on that company and they have scammed many, many folks. Problem comes when I ask to return it they want me to spend my own money to ship it to CHINA. I knew without a doubt Paypal would have my back, boy was I wrong. Weeks into this fiasco Paypal sends me this canned response "Send the item back to (China) this address and you will receive your refund". So I tried to get anyone to listen to me from Paypal, nope, spend $70 of my money to get the $99.90 refund. Paypal is no longer the company it once was. So sad, I used to love Paypal, felt safe, that is no longer true.
PS: I just searched the address I bought the item and it's not even AZCozy's address, it belongs to another business but they have gotten many calls about AZCozy.

I strongly believe there in customer service department of PayPal no human being is working, actually. They are repeating bots and programmed with Commodore 64 (which was a great machine in its time but not enough to compete today´s technology obviously) or equal computer. On telephone you cannot get any real help. I had a refund which is not returned first for weeks, then returned partially. One part went into my bank account, other is not there. Nothing. I tried to email them 3 times. 2 times I got the same answer, they say I will get a refund in 5 days to my bank account and to my PayPal Balance if I paid with PayPal Balance. However, the very core of the problem is something other. No real human is working there to help. By telephone, it´s impossible to reach anybody and all you can hear and do is repeating tapes itselves. Not real customer service. Very slow in refunds and very very high fees.

9 payments were made by my account, but not by me.
Called paypal and they refunded them, but I didn't recieve the emails they sent me to reset my password and security questions. Still they told me to wait and not reset the password. Pretty confusing and just not a great customer follow up.

When i noticed this and called Paypal, they said they had done it on purpose because the credit transaction looked risky despite my zero balance. The purchase was only for $120. Luckily i had the money in my checking account, but sometimes i run my account very low.

I closed both credit accounts: Paypal Credit and Paypal Mastercard, then called Wells Fargo and spoke with a banker who said that even though the charge to my account was unauthorized, had it caused a bounce or indeed many bounces, i would have incurred all of the fees. The banker said she has spoken with several customers who have called in with this same complaint.

I have opened a claim as I got a sewing machine not working.

The seller tried everything to not to refund me, including taking the piss off me on the paypal opened case amd trying to make pass the time in order to get the case not opened, which I did.

I was ready to send the item back for have it fixed and I have offered all I could to sort the problem out.

Despite of all this and a broken item, Paypal UK decided in favor of the seller.

(The seller won't respond for the 6 years warrancy, he got my money and I got a piece of junk)

VERY disappointed.

I purchased a piano through PayPal when it arrived it did not work. I spoke to your customer service. They said I did not have to provide tracking details. Because the item I purchased was from china, and the shipping to return it was more then I payed for the item. When I made the purchase it looked like they were located in the united stats when I went to send it back It turned out they wanted it shipped back to china. So PayPal Instead they asked for a letter from a professional stating that it did not work.So I went through the trouble of bringing it in to a music shop to have it looked at. The gave me a statement saying it did not work. I submitted it to PayPal and they still denied my case. I lost all my money.

Pay Pal Complaint / UPDATE
November 21, 2019
Updated review

Since this original review, I've had TWO MORE complaints against Pay Pal. In BOTH case, they refused to give me a refund. I immediately contacted the Better Business Bureau and suddenly Pay Pal came to their senses and quickly gave me a refund! If you have any problems with this company always contact consumer agencies. They will help you!

Is pay pal becoming a SCAM?
May 25, 2017
Previous review

A few weeks ago l purchased computer software which did not work on my computer. L immediately removed it on the same day that l purchased it and requested a refund from the company. They completely ignored my emails and refund request. L filled a claim through the pay pal resolution center. L expected to EASILY WIN this claim. WRONG! Pay pal claimed that l must have MORE EVIDENCE to win my case! And that l needed a THIRD PARTY VERIFICATION! This so-called proof that l needed to win my case was impossible because this software company ignored all of my calls and emails. Ln the past, when l filed claims with pay pal, l EASILY WON with absolutely no problems. Now suddenly l need A LOT MORE PROOF to win my case? What happened to pay pal's BUYER PROTECTION? Ls this just becoming B. S.? What am l paying my pay pal FEES for? L had to handle this situation myself by contacting my bank and issuing a charge back claim which l won. Lf pay pal pulls this crap again with any of my future complaints l will cancel my account with them. Right now, my opinion is YES pay pal is a scam!

PayPal I thought was a staple. But I was mistaken. The difference between personal PayPal & PayPal business is night & day. I just set up a PayPal business account and as soon as I tried to purchase a service for customers, I received an account limitation & the card was declined.

The customer service is horrendous. The outsourced, they are illiterate & cannot understand the problem let alone fix a solution. It's not their fault. It is PayPal's greedy management's fault.

They should be ashamed of this. I have not found worst customer service than this. Where a customer service agent says "No" when you ask to speak to a supervisor.

No protection from fraud!
November 17, 2019

I ordered a product. Company sent a tracking number. Product did not come. Tracking said delivered. No specific address. Just the city i live in. Paypal denied my claim because the fraudulant merchant sent them the same tracking number indicating delivery. I called UPS. The tracking number had nothing to do with me or the merchant. It was a book order coming from a public library to the public library in my ciry. Paypal tells me I have to show them proof the item was NOT sent to me. WTF is wrong with this picture?

I initiated instant money transfer to my bank account on 11/8 of $558 but it never transferred to my bank nor fund isn't available in Paypal account as well. I called Paypal and they said that it will be resolved within 24-48 hours but today is 11/17 and my money is still missing same time I don't have any updates from Paypal yet. Reason people pays extra fees to use the instant transfer is because they urgently need fund available to them. It's been a 9 days since the transfer and I would not trust Paypal as a reliable financial institution.
