The company's reputation is significantly marred by pervasive customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from service delays, ineffective communication, and technical issues with their online systems. Customers frequently report frustrations with prescription management, including unfulfilled orders and lack of timely updates. While some customers acknowledge the efforts of individual representatives, the overall service experience is characterized as disorganized and unresponsive. This disconnect between customer needs and service delivery has led to a growing sentiment of frustration and distrust, prompting many to seek alternatives despite being tethered to this provider through employer mandates.

I have used mail order pharmacies in the past. Optum RX is the worst! They lost my copay assist which is a saves me 95 dollars a month. I spent 4 hours for my son's meds to no avail. I am sick and tired of his meds and mine being held hostage by this company. They have NO idea what added stress they put into our lives. I frank do not think they care at all.
My husband's employer switched to the insurance company last month. I had been taking 60mg of viibryd for depression. They refuse to pay for 60, so I'm forced to take 20mg. They same deal with my pain med. I now have to cut that dose in half. This is horrible. I can't imagine what cancer patients, or heart patients have to go through. I would rate them in the negative numbers. The worst company EVER!
I can't use colorful language here, but you will find yourself using it, when dealing this company, because you will not be happy with the services they try to offer. It is one screwed up thing after another. It took 4 years for my physician and I to get the correct combination of 2 meds, which have been working great for the past few years. After being forced to use this company, someone sitting at a desk has denied pre-authorization coverage for one of those meds, twice. I've had to suddenly stop taking the medication at 2 months in, because I've completely ran out, and still have no coverage. Their appeals process will waste another month. They didn't have my insurance info entered into their system, so they said, and charged me $280 for 3 meds that was actually only $38. Things stay "in processing" for weeks and weeks. I'm getting irritated just thinking about this company.
I work in a medical setting and this company will not approve a simple drug like Albuteral for patients, with no other alternative listed. DO NOT go with this company, they will not cover medication that is medically necessary! If you are someone about to go on Medicare, do not pick this company, your medications will not be covered!
This company is the most archaic disfunctional company Ive ever worked with. They deny every medication the doctor prescribes then the meds they sat they cover you have to have them review the prescription by filling out a form then physically mail it in and wait for them to decide if they will pay for it. They do everything they can to make it a hassle
It's sort of indescribable how terrible this company is. Their systems are antiquated, as are their policies. I have to go to the post office to sign for my medication - an epic inconvenience, since I work late hours. I've had ExpressScripts and CVS Caremark in the past and didn't have this issue. Truly a bottom-of-the-barrel company, but I'm stuck, since my insurer has contracted with this clueless entity. And I agree with the other reviewers regarding the poor telephone service. Good luck getting resolution in a timely way, much less speak to someone who speaks English passably.
I am a pharmacist and this is the worst pharmacy (PBM) I have ever worked with either professionally or as a consumer. They completely messed up a recent order and it literally took me 4.5 hours on the phone (most of it spent on hold) to try and fix and it still was wrong. Dropped them after 2 months and won't be back.
I have been trying to get my testing supplies and pen needles through them for two months now. They keep saying the dr hasn't sent the prescription. Finally got one of my insulins in and test strips but no needles to take the insulin with and no meter for the test strips.
I started filling prescriptions at OptumRX this month for the first time. I have spent hours on the telephone, actually, not hyperbole. I am a nurse with a good understanding of my prescriptions. The first time I tried to set up my account on the website I had to call four times about issues. (Cost of a medication, dosage of a medication, change of a medication wrong dosage of medication listed.) I tried to contact them by email and waited days for an answer; received several computer generated replies that included no answer. When they did answer the email, it instructed me to call them, which I was trying to avoid. I did call, and I was just disconnected after being transferred twice. I called Costco to price my new prescription and it was 2/3 the cost of OptumRX. I am now going to price my other prescriptions through Costco. My recommendation is to check with other pharmacies for the cost of your medications. If they are the same price or below, use that pharmacy.
I have been using Optumrx for several years now and have never had a problem. My medicine arrives on time, always correct, I let my Dr"s do my call in, I occasionally have to talk to a rep at Optumrx and have been treated better than the local pharmacies, I highly recommend this company.
My husband sees a VA dr as well as one outside of VA. Because he is a diabetic we use VA for his insulin. He takes several other scrips also. Two weeks ago VA changed aome of his meds. We took the handwritten scrips to the outside dr and they faxed it to Optum for us. We get the email that it is being processed and gives a date to expect it to arrive. Few days later another email saying same thing with different dates. I called them to find out what the delay was and they said that one of them was out of stock and one was too much medication. Since when does a mail order pharmacy decide what a person they have never seen or examined determine how much medicine they should have? They keep saying they need the dr to call them. If you know anything about the VA you know they are far too busy to $#*! around with these idiots. So they have basically denied 2 if his new meds. We will be having VA fill all his meds from now on. I cant believe with all the bad reviews that this company has all over the internet that they are still being used by any insurer.
I have spent 2 days on the phone with OptumRX about 2 prescriptions, no one knew what they were talking about, one person couldn't add correctly. I was told I needed a prior authorization when I didn't. When they couldn't answer me they switched me to the Medicare number hence I am not on medicare. I spoken to at least 10 people who all had the incorrect answers. I finally had my local pharmacy fill the prescriptions and they will be 66 dollars less for a 90 day supply of both combined meds. Don't know how this company stays in business. They are rip off artists, big time.
I have a 90 day prescription that has been returned to sender twice because they can't separate my street into two words. They were going to give me an emergency script to pick up at Walgreens. But when Walgreens called they said there were no refills. No duh it's was a 90 day supply that was the original that I still haven't received. Alex said to look it up a overdue from him, for an emergency script but everyone is so stupid and in another country so there's really no help. I am dropping out of this ASAP
This company is poorly trained and very uninformed... my son has been on the same exact med, same exact insurance however EVERYTIME I reorder they have a problem processing his refill... it usually takes at least a week to get things figured out each time. I have talked with there resolution team several times and they assured me that everythinh would go smoothly after talking/dealing with them... WRONG! I have the same problem still to this day... I HATE this company so much but cannot switch due to the stupid primary insurance company my son has... im stuck and nothing changes, honestly I hate calling them each month so much it gives me extreme anxiety and a massive migraine. Getting a script refilled should not be this hard
It's been 8 weeks and my prescription still isn't complete... I finally received my glucose meter, lancets but NO test strips for the meter. It's been every ridiculous excuse that they could come up with to not fill it. Then when the new year came and my copay wasn't zero anymore they could fill it all the sudden. They had received this order on December 2nd! I requested a review to back bill the insurance. I was told this process would take 7-10 more days. Well, it's been over 10 and not a word. I haven't been able to check my blood sugar in over 8 weeks! This company is the most unprofessional and useless Company that I have ever had to deal with. The employees are untrained and clueless. I will now move on with filing a complaint with the FDA.
This is the worst pharmacy experiences I've ever experienced. I've been calling since 12/26 about sending me my medicine and every time I call to check on my order it feels like I have to start from scratch. I've been without medicine for a week due to a mistake in the refill process. I just got off the phone with a rep who was too lazy to even read the notes from my previous call after I asked him multiple times to do so.
My doctor's nurse confirmed they have already sent the prescription but my last call, minutes before this review, told me they Do not have the prescription.
The cost of medicine Using OptumRx is not competitive with other pharmacies such as Costco. Without insurance with Costco I get 3 months for ~$90. With OptumRx, with insurance, it costs $100 and they still cannot get it right. If it wasn't for the fact that buying the medicine from them helps me towards the deductible I would not have chose to be subjected to such low level of service.
This is absolutely frustrating and unprofessional. I will also report this to my work so we can find an alternative
My husband works for the Michigan Corrections Dept. and Optumrx is contracted by the State and we have no choice but to use Optumrx to get a 90-day supply or pay the same amount for a 30-day supply if you don't use Optumrx and shop another pharmacy. That's the first problem we are not given a choice! I was at the ER for a bleeding ulcer. The doctor prescribed Omeprazole but wanted me to take two twice day. I got to Walgreens to have it filled after I left the ER (8:30 p.m.) and they said there was a problem because Optumrx had to pre-approve it?! I could still purchase it but it would cost $256.00! Of course I said "huh" it's a prescription from a doctor. The person behind the counter got some OTC and checked to make sure the mg were correct. I called Optumrx the next day concerning pre-approval and was told it would take up to 72 hours. Told them it was prescribed by a physician at the ER. Since when does Optumrx override a physician's prescription. Another stall tactic so you just buy it OTC since I would not be getting it through Optumrx. The less business I can have with them the better. No freedom of choice when the State LOCKS you into Optumrx. Oh wait, you do have a choice but it will cost you more.
When attempting to refill my prescriptions on line I noticed that the number of days covered had changed from 90 to 45. This was an existing prescription with refills available that had previously been filled correctly by them. The prescription number and dosage were the same but the number of pills had been cut in half. How can this happen? I know my doctor didn't change it and I know the prescription she sent to Optum was for a 90 day supply. The customer service representative was no help and just kept repeating that they fill the prescriptions according to the information they have which is, of course, the same incorrect information that shows on their web page. She was totally unhelpful and not very nice. This makes no sense. At the very least I expect customer service representatives to be civil to the customers and make some attempt to solve the problem. (By the way, I was not nasty to her at all, although by the end of our conversation I certainly felt like it!) Very frustrating!
This is the worst pharmacy you will ever encounter in your life: Untrained staff, extremely long wait time for a prescription to be processed and mailed to you, a poorly designed website and phone app. If you have a choice to go with a different pharmacy, go with that pharmacy and you still will be better off in terms of customer experience! Or you can use GoodRX and will have a pharmacy of your choice, but stay away from OptumRX.
I am transferring all my medications to my local pharmacy because I just can't depend on OptumRX at all. They not only screw it all up they can;'t get their stories straight about the problem and continue to screw it up.
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.
Answer: Don't hold your breath - they are all about money - not customer service
Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
Answer: Only bad part of this united plan. Optum is worse than poor. They misplace Rx's and then lie
