The company's reputation is significantly marred by pervasive customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from service delays, ineffective communication, and technical issues with their online systems. Customers frequently report frustrations with prescription management, including unfulfilled orders and lack of timely updates. While some customers acknowledge the efforts of individual representatives, the overall service experience is characterized as disorganized and unresponsive. This disconnect between customer needs and service delivery has led to a growing sentiment of frustration and distrust, prompting many to seek alternatives despite being tethered to this provider through employer mandates.

If you are able to choose a mail order service, do NOT pick OptumRX. This is the only choice we have other than using a pharmacy. I take an anti-depressant that costs me $160 per month in the pharmacy. Through OptumRX it is $25 for a 3 month supply. EXCEPT - my medication was not in stock. No one ever informed me of this. This medication was shown to be delivered 10/2/20. I did not receive it so I called. After 30 minutes (most of this time spent holding while speaking to Jordan), Heather finally informed me that the medication is on backorder and we do not have an expected date. Horrible customer service. It was scripted and extremely obvious that they did not care. I have two days of medication left. I go into severe withdrawals when I stop taking this anti-depressant, which is the closest I've ever come to experiencing hell. They offered no solutions or options. Just a very fake "I'm sorry this is happening to you". Fortunately, my pharmacy has a one month supply. Otherwise I would be in the emergency room. This is my first experience with OptumRX. It's much cheaper for me, but it left me in a dangerous situation. Withdrawals can cause seizures and in some cases death. If you value your health, don't use OptumRX.
My provider sent in 2 prescriptions of bp medication that is used for migraine prevention. The prescriptions were present on my account, but in a few days they were gone and not filled. One was a immediate action medication and the other an extended release form of the same medication. My neurologist is not a fool, she ordered both for a reason, they just completely cancelled the prescriptions and they disappeared from my account. It was a huge hassle to get hose re ordered and sent somewhere else. These were not narcotics, nor were they a medication that was an addictive drug, these are blood pressure medications. RIDICULOUS! Also i take a thyroid medication which they charge $40 for a 3 month supply with my insurance. I can go to Walmart or any other chain store and get these for $10 with NO INSURANCE. What a rip off. I pay a very large amount for insurance despite working for a hospital. We used to use CVS caremark which was much more efficient, easier to contact, and great prices. If there is a choice, dont use Optum RX, just get a paper prescription and use the GOOD RX app on your phone, it will probably be cheaper. By the way i am a RN, i understand medications.
Doctor sent an insulin prescription three times over a one month period (faxed and confirmed) and still they didn't acknowledge that they received it. It was a critical insulin that I cannot do without.
They call to push ordering prescriptions (as a friendly reminder) and when I say I'm not ready to refill they refilled it anyway. That means they charged my card when they wanted instead of when I was ready. This was for especially expensive medications costing hundreds of dollars. Their focus is on making money but provide poor service.
Worst prescription insurance company. Title of the review says it all. Call center employees are frequently incapable of communicating the solution of a single simple step to get prescriptions filled. Emails sent out contain no information on issues with pending RX orders. Once had to speak to three separate employees to find out that I simply had to update the credit card on file for their website to get a pending prescription to process. Website is next to useless.
Like the other reviewers I too have United Healthcare. And I too have had stunningly bad customer service. I have to call them for each refill because their automated contacting does not seem to work. Every call takes over half an hour because the services people seem to have no idea what they are doing.
The web site is also terrible. But there we are. There is no option to give feedback, and in frustration I have submitted my feedback to United. It will be interesting to see how they respond.
This company is evil and profit-focused. Their standard practice is denying prescription medications that insured users need, all in the name of profit. They make it so difficult to get the medicines you need to be covered. As they are part of United Healthcare, it's easy to see that they are profit-focused, not focused on helping they're insured. My experience with Optumrx has been very poor, but unfortunately, they give you no choice. Watch the movie "Sicko" and you'll understand how profit-driven the health insurance industry is.
It's only a matter of time before they mess up your billing. I've been in a year long battle with them over something that I did not authorize. I have placed over a dozen calls, all lasting over an hour. In the end someone tells you what you want to hear to get you off the phone, then they do nothing about the problem. I have chosen not to take my medication rather than deal with them
Do not use optimrx.
They are horrible. The customer service is non existent.
I get a different answer every time I call.
They don't make notes on my account for consistency.
I was told relion brand is covered. It us not.
I give this company a big F for failure.
They stopped covering my medication during treatment! If I stop. Cold turkey.it can be leathal! They have a policy to change your coverage at any time to not cover your. Medication! USE ANYONE. ELSE DO NOT USE THEM!
This is a horrible company! If I did not have to use them, I would not. I have been trying to get my medication filled for almost a month. The physicians office told me they spoke optum several times- still with no resolution. I have been taking this medications for years... never had such an issue with prior authorizations. My Insurance company has approved. Then Optum will tell me the physicians office have not spoken to them... I know this is a lie. The physician will call me and tell me Optum said they received everything and I call and Optum and they still need a prior authorization. Again, I have never had an issue until I had to start using this company.
I called 3 x to approve. They said my credit card is fine and each time said they would ship out 3 weeks ago. Then 2weeks ago then 1 week ago. Never shipped. Today I ended up in the ER tonight.
Bluecross Insurance should stop using, force and restrict its client to use OPTUM RX this is the worst company ever
All they do is repeatedly ask to same question and most of the time their systems are down and make all kinds of excuses, have to call atleast 3-6 times before a refill is shipped.
I am a physician and my cardiologist is one of my partners. Optum refuses to honor a 90 day prescription which of course increases my copay. No big deal initially but now I see online that they do this A LOT. Now they have lied to me by telling me that they have tried to get in touch with my partner 3 times this week to authorize a refill, which they have not. Online, there are 3 refills left on the prescription. I also told them not to call me because I wasn't going to give out personal information over the phone on any incoming call and they completely ignored that. They have called me 4 times in the last two days and the last one hung up on me when I informed her I wouldn't give her my personal information.
They have too many hoops to go through to get your medication. You get different answers from different people.
Now that i see other reviews, this is redundant. I've never dealt with a worse company. They screw up everything and good luck dealing with someone you can understand, I believe they only hire people with IQs of 80 or less
Call me every other day telling about some issue as to why my prescription did not get sent! Why in the hell would any doctor use this company. Made me rethink my doctor. Trust me, any good review is the owner or an employee. The supervisor I just had on the phone told me that she knows their service is terrible and she doesn't know what to tell me! United Health Group should be embarrassed to be associated with Optumrx.
Honestly one of the worst precription companies. When I'm out of medication I only have a few refills so I then have to call my doctor for them to call and refill it. Then it takes over a week for it to be mailed to me. When the medication is needed immediately I'm not able to get it at a pharmacy. When I do call and they say I get an overide to get at a pharmacy it doesn't go through the system. Extremely frustrating and a waste of time and energy. I wish this company wasn't required through insurance
Called in to get prescription. I was none. After a week I called back and woman said they could not even find the drug listed on my profile. Asked to speak with a supervisor. After being on hold for 20 minutes a representative came on and said they did not send the information to my current doctor but would have to send it to a former doctor
OptumRX seems to be gambling with our health. Some illnesses cannot tolerate a week without medicines... missing doses of medicines can greatly complicate treatment. My employer switched to Optum as the pharmacy provider in January and all prescriptions have been delayed to the point of being completely out for days in between. Our doctor electronically submitted the prescriptions more than 10 days before we ran out, but they were not "received" by Optum until the medicine was completely out 10 days later, then Optum shipped via ground, the slowest method possible, so we will be without the medicine for 6 additional days. The first time I'd call it an honest miss. But after repeated problems it now looks like the MO. Shame on them claiming to "manage health". Managing it all the way to the bank it seems.
Letter from OptumRX today is insulting. "Pay your outstanding balance to prevent a hold on account & a delay on future orders" total due $0.00. This is insulting to a customer who pays their bills on time. Management must do a better job separating payers from non-payers and appreciating those customers who pay their bills on time. That is why my rating is 2. Customer support employees are courteous & professional. Management is another story
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.
Answer: Don't hold your breath - they are all about money - not customer service
Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
Answer: Only bad part of this united plan. Optum is worse than poor. They misplace Rx's and then lie
