The company's reputation is significantly marred by pervasive customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from service delays, ineffective communication, and technical issues with their online systems. Customers frequently report frustrations with prescription management, including unfulfilled orders and lack of timely updates. While some customers acknowledge the efforts of individual representatives, the overall service experience is characterized as disorganized and unresponsive. This disconnect between customer needs and service delivery has led to a growing sentiment of frustration and distrust, prompting many to seek alternatives despite being tethered to this provider through employer mandates.

Optum RX is a subsidiary of United Healthcare AARP, who of course want you to get meds from their own company. United Healthcare sets a very high yearly deductible, and Optum RX charges from 4 to 5 times as much as your local pharmacy. A complete, probably illegal way to fleece elderly Americans.
I am in need of a special medication. After them lying and said my Doctor office did not have my insurance I provide this information and the very next day they state it was rejected because I have two insurances which is not true. I explain what they were considering as an insurance was the company I actually work for that provides the insurance. Now the second day I am on the phone with this Optumrx company and have spoken with four reps. And they still don't know what is going on with the rejection after the insurance rep. Clearly stated the reason it's being rejected was due to the packaging. Which has nothing to do with me. When you are not feeling well the last thing you need to deal with is inadequate people dealing with your medication placing you on hold for ridiculous amounts of time. I've been on hold again over 30 minutes. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible.
I have taken maintenance medications most of my adult life. I am not impressed with OptumRx thru United Health Care. They often charge more for medications, mail deliveries are often lost, there is no convenience waiting by the mailbox, and service in general is extremely poor. If you try to fill the typical 90 day supply at your neighborhood pharmacy, they will restrict the fill to 30 days. They will then send you a letter to incite fear and bully you into using their mail order services. They warn you that if you do not use their mail order service that you will pay more for your medication and you only get a few limited courtesy fills through them. GoodRx pricing beats OptumRx nearly every time, it's a free service, and you can fill conveniently on your schedule at your neighborhood pharmacy. When you need your medication or have been given a new prescription from your doctor, it makes no sense waiting for poor mail order service. If I could give OptumRx zero stars, I would. I have no confidence or faith in their services. I speak from years of experience dealing with them.
Selling a travel COVID testing kit and claimed that customers should take the responsibility of the delay. I got the testing kit after my international travel, and they refused to refund. The delay was not just one or two days, but was a week. Don't know how a company can make the excuse like this.
My Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan carrier switched our mail order prescription service this year from ExpressScripts to OptumRx. Boy, it has been less than 3 months and I have had nothing but issues with OptumRx! Do not recommend this company at all.
Worst website I've ever interacted with. It's freakin sucks. It's blows. It's terrible. Super sucky!
This company is just ridiculous. Instead of actually answering a simple question, United will transfer you to Optum and Optum will say you have to call United. OptumRx will then, if you are lucky, answer a random question that no one ever asked, but only after its reps confuse two medicines with each other and one of them with an OTC supplement. They will blame anyone and everyone but themselves, if you can hear them over their barking dogs and crying children.
I am only using them because my company switched to them and I have no choice. I tried to get a specialty drug prescription for a 90 day supply. They tell me that under my new plan that isn't allowed. I filed for a special release. I was denied. Ordered a 30 day supply. They confirmed my order, I received an email confirmation that it was to be shipped and order was paid in full. The shipment never arrived. Contacted them and the only explanation I got was it was a computer glitch. So they scheduled another shipment. The next day I notice an additional charge on my credit card. I contact them again to find out that they were shipping a 90 days without notifying me and charged my credit card without my permission. So now second shipment did not get received and was held by UPS for an extra 2 days. The prescription has to be refrigerated. So because of the delay the prescription was bad. So now I had to have a third shipment. They don't ship it in a cooler, a dang card board box. I have no way to know if the prescription is bad or not. I am so disappointed And have no choice but to deal with this idiots.
Purchased four travel tests for reentry to the US. Results never sent for first test and second test was claimed to be expired. Had to spend additional time and money to locate a lab to return to the US. Customer service essentially said "oh well, sucks to be you. No refund"
AVOID RELYING IN THEIR COVID TESTS FOR TRAVEL
I had an eye drops prescription sent there. By the time I got to my car from the Dr. Office they had already processed my claim.
I called there and had to keep getting a new representative because they had such broken English. I said I have a copay assistance card but because the prescription was already processed I couldn't use it and charged me $175. After some back and forth they decided to cancel the order. I had to call back after 24 hours so I could then use the card. I called the next day and they processed the prescription and was told I had to pay zero because I had the card. 2 days later I received the prescription with a bill for $175. I called again and got the same run around with every person that I talked to. I refuse to pay the bill and will be getting them filled at Walgreens. I would rather pay the $70 a month there instead of the $175 for 3 months at optum and have to deal with their people.
Creating an OptumRx account on-line has required a dozen sessions including 3-4 live agent calls. All the prescriptions I entered for refill on the website were lost, so started over with an agent (twice), I still get mobile messages asking me to order refills 2-3 times a day. Their software and operations process is totally broken.
Optum Pharmacy is the worst experience I have ever had with a pharmacy, and well quite frankly with any medical facility. They are unorganized, slow, and don't have a clue as to what any of their employees are telling the customers. They have attitudes and the worst customer service ever.
I would rather remain in pain all the days of my life than ever have to deal with them again. Very disappointed in their lack of knowledge, compassion, and overall existence as a pharmacy.
The absolute worst experience dealing with a pharmacy in 20 years I have been on meds. They intentionally deny every drug first and make you go through long tedious appeals process. Their hold times on the phone are criminal. No one answering the phones knows what they are talking about. Their scam is they keep referring you back to the insurance to appeal and the insurance refers you back to Optum. It becomes a loop you can't ever escape. They are destroying people's lives.
First order they double charged me the $200 I had to pay for 3 months of medication (only wanted and could afford 1, but they force you to take 3). Second order it's saying the $200 is for 1 month?
I send a message asking what's going on is this a typo? They reply based on my insurance I have to meet a deductible blah blah blah. Not helpful. They say at the end finally, it's $200 for 3 months, $67 for 1. (I can't buy 1 so...?)
I message again, saying it says $200 for 1 month what do I do? They reply that they've checked the pricing and yes, it's $200 for 3 months.
ARGH.
HELP ME WHAT DO I DO. Pay $200 for what says 1 month and hope I get 3? What! Explain what is happening, fix the error, HELP.
Time is running out and 5 days were wasted on waiting for their USELESS messages, and I need this medication TO FRICKIN BREATHE.
These people are garbage and I have no other option. Panicking, may literally die.

If it was up to me they wouldn't even have 1 star from me! Literally the worst company to have to go through to get a Prior Authorization approved just to have it denied on medication I have been taking for 10 years and now they want to deny it for my medical condition. WORST COMPANY EVER -TRYING TO "FIX" SOMETHING THAT IS NOT BROKEN AND HAS BEEN WORKING GREAT FOR TEN YEARS.
It's better off just to have your RX sent to Walmart then to deal with this company that takes forever to get your prescription.
Horrible Pharmacy for patients who take their meds as prescribed by the Doctor to stay healthy! Mr Doctor has prescribed cholesterol meds for me for over three years, all the sudden OptumRX DECLINED it! For months I have called, emailed, etc. and although they'll tell you they're mailing you paperwork to appeal the pre-approval denial decision, it never is mailed, you just don't get the medicine. Their medicine pre-approval process will approve a different med, don't care if it works so long as it's cheaper and they get more kickbacks I guess. Why else would a pharmacy deny a medicine that your Doctor says you need to maintain a healthy life. Seems It's all about the $$ not you or your health!
If you use their website, they have a "chat now" feature. I have used it several times to ask about the ordering process. There is a live person on the chat within 20 seconds, and each person I've talked to has been very nice and informative. My order is going through quickly and they were able to check the availability of my meds before my doctor even sent in my Rx. A lot of other reviews left very bad comments about their customer service. They must not have seen the online chat option.
I feel bad because literally every time they call and I see their number on my caller ID I'm instantly irritated. They call 5 times in a row, leave a vague message (which is fine because they're limited on what they can say) and then call back 20 mins later, several times in a row. The biggest problem I have is when I actually answer the calls or call them back at the number provided, I'm stuck on the phone for 20 minutes and no one knows why they were contacting me. I also go through issues every month through their specialty pharmacy for my chemo. I rarely give a bad review but after two years of dealing with them and there's been no improvement I felt it was fair.
I will say their employees are incredibly friendly but that can only get you so far if you can't help the costumer.
Complete idiots. They send the wrong prescription, then send you a kit to destroy it… more than once. Made another mistake and had to mail it back.
Credit card on file… get a bill in the mail.
Confirm an order, get half and have to call back to reorder.
Yes our life sometimes depends on medication but it shouldn't be with these idiots.
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.
Answer: Don't hold your breath - they are all about money - not customer service
Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
Answer: Only bad part of this united plan. Optum is worse than poor. They misplace Rx's and then lie
