Newegg Reviews Summary

Newegg's reputation is mixed, with a notable divide in customer experiences. On the positive side, many customers appreciate the wide selection of tech products and competitive pricing, often citing timely deliveries and satisfactory purchases over the years. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns regarding customer service, particularly issues with product authenticity, delayed or unresponsive support, and complicated return processes. Customers frequently report dissatisfaction with how complaints are handled, leading to a growing sentiment of distrust towards the company. Overall, while Newegg remains a popular choice for tech purchases, its customer service shortcomings are a critical area for improvement.

The benchmark in pricing
October 13, 2010

The benchmark in pricing. I come to Newegg first to compare prices to other retailers. Newegg is usually 90% better than Best Buy or other retailers. I've spent over $10k at this store over the years, and I recommend it to everyone.

Newegg has competitive prices, but their customer service is user-unfriendly. As a computer repairer (?) for a living I am always looking for good website to buy from. The pluses of Newegg: fast shipping, good prices. The drawbacks-- bad customer service that seems apathetic towards customers. I received a hard drive that was DOA, so I sent it back to Newegg. Instead of receiving a replacement, I was told I had damaged it and that I would not receive a replacement or refund. So I was out that money. Luckily it was a good price I got, but it turned me off to Newegg and I take my business elsewhere now.

Have been a Newegg.com customer for years and highly recommend them. There have been some items I've received that didn't work but returning them has never been an issue.

The prices are good, but there ARE issues. It seems that the website doesn't post negative reviews about products that they want to unload. I bought a Seagate freetheater+ and was very disappointed and left a review to warn others before purchase. Newegg then put them on sale, dumped their stock, and deactivated the item. I wonder if they do this ALL the time?

Newegg is the geeks Garden of Eden. The site offers the ability to buy individual computer parts at very low prices. One person can build a computer for as much as $300 and it be one of the best systems the have ever owned. Shipping is 1 of the sites strong points if it is free shipping it's very low priced shipping and you receive it fast. Not only do they sell computer parts but they also sell everything electronic from Tv's to gaming consoles. Newegg is #1 when it comes to buying the ltest technology.

I have a very long purchase history from NewEgg.com. In the past they have performed above average. My purchase in late July 2010 was so poorly handled and the resulting damage to my company is so severe that I will never purchase from this company again.

I placed an order early in the morning. I requested and paid for expedited shipping. By mid-day the order status had not changed so I contacted customer service via chat. The session was short, the customer service rep followed every question with "Is that all", my read was "why are you bothering me". The short conversation resulted in two tracking numbers for my order and no idea of what was shipping. I needed to know that to buy locally what was not coming next day. I did not like my experience so I submitted a poor review of "my experience". It is now the next day and I find that some of my order did ship but is now using 3 day service and not the next day I ordered and paid for. Perhaps a little petty retribution? In any case, by design or mistake, NewEgg.com has just cost me a fortune in a major lost sale in a critical new industry.

I will never buy from NewEgg.com again. My advice to you is steer clear. NewEgg.com was really bad for my business.

First off, I would say in general, I love Newegg and I have been ordering thousands of dollars a year or more from them. But, I am disappointed with a few things from them. Mainly, I have no way of knowing how many items are in stock. The only way to know anything is to put the item in shopping cart and it will let you know that just that many are in stock. (this particular item had a limit of 5 so I couldn't see if there were any more than that available. So I quote my customer based off Neweggs prices (had I known that only 4 were available I would have quoted higher to cover the cost of buying elsewhere), and the customer accepted the same day. So I turn around and go to order the parts, and what do you know, they only have 2 of the 4 available. Ouch. Ok, so I call up customer support to try and find out if/and/or when Newegg will restock. All they could tell me is that it was sold out. I already new that from the website. What I wanted to know is, is Newegg planning to order more, do they think they will restock within a week, or anything else that can help me decide how to proceed. All they could say was, we are not provided with that information, is there anything else I can do for you. So I ask to speak to someone that orders inventory... they say there is no one they can transfer me to and is there anything else they can help with. Um no. Then they ask if they have answered my questions. Um no. Then I get an "ok, thank you for contacting Newegg and have a nice day." So after all that, I still do not know if I should buy the other two at a higher price somewhere else and perhaps start buying all of my parts there, as they have them in stock, or if I should give Newegg time to restock. If only I could talk to someone that can tell me an ETA of the item to Newegg. It seems that Newegg is like a mother with a small child, she does not care if the child is hungry or not, when it is supper time, the child eats what she puts on its plate and that's it. No more or no less.

I can only think that the positive reviews here must have been written by Newegg's marketing department. I purchased a DVD drive from them over a month ago. The drive was defective, so I returned it. After selling me a broken unit, they had the gall to charge for return shipping + a 15% restocking fee + the original cost of shipping. In all, they kept $20 of the $70 I paid. PLUS, they have STILL not refunded even that $50, despite having approved the (partial) refund nearly a month ago. I will never, never buy anything from Newegg again. Unless you like to learn the hard way, stay far away from this ripoff of a company!

My first order was over $500 for parts to build a computer (everybody seemed to want to rave about their deals). They do have a sweet selection and deals that would blow your mind, but as somebody else pointed out, their customer service stinks.

I had ordered the wrong CPU. I didn't read everything. That was my fault. When the CPU came (as it is OEM), It came inside a tiny plastic container inside of a much larger box (with the rest of the stuff I had ordered). The tiny box wasn't even taped shut (is that how you treat $160 of product?). The CPU had come out of its container and many of the pins had become bent on one side.

I had contacted customer service, only to be given a phone number to the manufacturer. The item itself was listed as "no returns--exchange only."

I had to unbend the pins and relist the item on ebay with a MASSIVE reduction in price. I will never order from there again.

If you have trust that karma will get you by without incident, that would be the place to go. You can't beat them on price.

I have been a customer of Newegg for years. I've bought all sorts of items from them with only minimal issues. Just before this years' Final Four, I purchased a HiDef TV from them, expensive to me ($1,500.00), but worth it in my estimation. I was excited about getting everything set up for the Final Four. The TV arrived on-time with a damaged screen and I refused to accept the delivery. Not Neweggs fault. When I contacted them however, their customer service was non-existant. They refused to replace the TV and told me my only option was to get my money back. No upgrades offered. No action to appease my anger or frustration, just a "that's not our policy". And this was after talking to 2 supervisors of Customer Service! If you need to depend upon an online website to purchase a product, I'd suggest you shop elsewhere... When I've dealt with other Internet sites, I've never been disappointed and received prompt, polite, professional customer service. I'd have to say that "Customer Service" is not their policy!

OMG! It gets worse!

I submitted my claim about the damaged TV on Monday 4/5/10 directly to Newegg. I was informed that "their policy" is that it takes 3-5 business days to process the claim even though their own website state 2 business days. I waited patiently... At 2 a.m. on 4/8/10 I received email notification that the claim had been received and approved. I then called my credit card company and they stated that the charge was still on my bill. I contacted newegg again and was told that the email that I received was notification that the claim was received on 4/7/10 and I'd have to wait 3-5 business days more! I then asked to speak to someone in their claims department so that this could be expedited, but those associates don't come in until 4:30 p.m. PST and I can't talk to them anyway because it's "not their policy"!

Stay away from www.newegg.com... it's not worth the risk!

I love newegg!
February 24, 2010

I love newegg! If you are thinking of buying ANY form of electronics, check prices on here before hitting up Best Buy, MicroCenter, or even Wal*Mart.

Prices are great, and even if you end up paying for shipping, you usually still wind up saving a ton.

I was a Newegg virgin up until a week ago when I placed an order for four cameras for my school. Of course I'd heard that Newegg was unbeatable in terms of its selection of new and refurbished goods as well as in its service. So it was no surprise that I also had an easy shopping experience. The cameras came in tip top condition.

DO NOT BUY NEWEGG GIFT CARDS!

I purchased online gift card from New Egg on 11/6/2009; the recipient never received email from NewEgg containing gift card.

I contacted NewEgg customer service and they said they would resend the card to me and the recipient; neither of us received the card. I contacted the customer service department three more times and was told the card would be resent to both parties each time, but again, neither of us received the card.

On 11/30/2009, I asked that the gift card be canceled and the money refunded and I was told it would be refunded within 48 hours.

I called again on 12/3/2009, as the money had not been refunded to my account, and was told by a customer service rep that the card had been canceled two weeks prior, long before I first contacted them inquiring about the status of the card. They were not able to tell me why it was canceled or by whom, and insisted that the money had been refunded to my account on 11/19.

My bank has no record of the refund, and NewEgg has not provided me with any information from their records indicating the refund ever happened, despite my attempts to gain that information.

I have spoken with numerous customer service reps and an escalation rep, all who have failed to provide me with any proof that NewEgg refunded the money. I have filed a dispute with Bank of America and the Better Business Bureau about this matter, as attempts to work with NewEgg to resolve the matter have been completely futile.

I have been a loyal NewEgg customer for years, but I will never purchase from them again after this ordeal.
