I'm new to Site Jabber and it appears to me that folks mainly use this site to complain about negative interactions rather than to rate a website.
I can understand this, because if you have a negative experience, you need a place to post, so others and the company are aware. It's just a shame that there are not a broader breath of experiences/opinions.
As a former Poshmark reseller, I highly recommend Mercari. It is in every way a more professionally run business. About a year ago, I moved all of my Poshmark inventory to Mercari. It has been a far superior selling experience. I keep more of my earnings, don't provide their platform my free labor by constantly sharing, and I'm no longer exposed to terrible, vulgar and inappropriate listings.
It's easy to sell on and I've not had any negative experiences.
In the emails they said I was in violation because it wasnt what was supposed to be sold. My guess is handmade or custom items is what they claim. If you go on their page others are selling the same thing or others are obviously not custom as you can buy them at walmart. My complaint is that without notice they completely deleted my account without sending me any messages. They did this after I shipped and confirmed tracking on my items! It wasnt until I confirmed shipping that they deleted my account. And they claim that because I was in violation that I will not get my product or my money for my items shipped! I dont know what kind of business is ran like this but it is illegal to do what they did! My product wasnt stolen. And someone bought it.
Mercari has a good idea but they just don't deliver! I ordered (2) bottles of lotion in December with the understanding the seller would ship within 3 days. 2 weeks later I sent a message to Mercari Support via their Chat page. They responded that they would contact the seller, but that I could always cancel my order. Then, nothing. I contacted them again and got the same response. Now it is nearly a month later and I still have not received my order, nor any communication from the seller. I am left with no choice but to cancel my order and request a refund. Feels like a scam...
But I have been buying and Selling on Mercari and have had no problems with either transactions. I have purchased many items and have received them quickly and as described. I have also sold over 100 items in my first month and I am very happy with their customer service. 1 item was lost in the mail and they quickly refunded the buyer and paid me as per their policy. They do have time limits on things so you have to be diligent. I have closed my Ebay store, listed those items on mercari and sold most of them the 1st month. They sat on ebay at the same prices for 6 months... just costing me store fees. If you follow the rules and deal with customer service within the timeline in their policy you will have no problems. Just make sure not to rate a seller if you are not happy. Once you rate it's a done deal. Read all pi f the sellers guidelines seller and buyer protection policy so you know how to protect yourself. I think most of the complaints are because people are not reading how things work and they do not make exceptions for stupidity.
Seller sent wrong item. It is extremely difficult to contact customer service. You have to jump through many hoops just to get an email address. There is no phone number to be found anywhere. I sent photos and asked for correct item to be sent. The response I received was that my only option was to return the wrong item for a refund and this must be done within 3 days. Then I received an email saying my ticket was resolved and closed. No, it is not! I explained that I don't want a refund and I certainly do not want the hassles of printing a shipping label plus another errand to post office. I asked again for the correct item to be sent. I was told that the return is the only option. Shockingly horrific management and service. This entire operation is a scam. DO NOT BUY FROM MERCARI. COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE. YOU HAVE NO RECOURSE.
I've been selling via Mercari for just under a year. It's been excellent for Henri Bendel items, okay-ish for sneakers (be prepared for tons of low balls from children) & terrible if you're selling electronics.
I sold an iPhone that I specifically said was for parts via an offer. It's a new-ish model so the parts are about $400 all together. I figured the person could just dismantle it & use whatever they wanted. Well the person didn't read anything because they thought they were getting a perfectly working, unlocked X 256 GB phone at a price far lower than others were selling.
First the person told me it wasn't delivered. Then they said their post didn't deliver on the 23 or 24 of December (WTF? The 2 busiest days of the year? Really?) Next that their postman didn't believe they'd be home & so they marked it as delivered & left at front door but really had it at the post office (trust me, I'm as confused as you!) and so basically, his time for the 3 day release of funds was significantly delayed. I didn't get paid. Then he asks for my passcode, which I gave, but somehow he still thought I was selling it totally unlocked, etc. He filed a claim & somehow won.
When I said WTF to Mercari they said they couldn't tell me exactly why they sided with the buyer. I showed the IMEI, said it was for parts/repair, said it was locked & somehow it's my fault the buyer is an idiot? That's the only dispute I've had on Mercari & I'm burned out with a lot of things but this just added to an already overwhelming stack. I realize that children don't (can't?) read anymore but maybe it's time they learn an expensive lesson? I had multiple people message me & ask questions, all of which I answered honestly & directly. Rather than a commission, perhaps Mercari should be paying their sellers 10% as a PITA fee. The level of idiocy on this platform is awful.
They say they offer $200 shipping insurance so sellers can feel comfortable shipping items, but they find every way to get out of protecting sellers' items if they are damaged during shipping. First time buyers can claim damage and get to keep the item for free. Ridiculous!
This is a horrible marketplace only designed for the seller NOT THE BUYER. I bought an item needing it in a hurry and paid extra for next day shipping. Merchant didn't even mail it out until 4 DAY LATER!
Seller has a 5 star review and now I know why, This site only published a review of the seller when the seller completes a review of the customer. So guess what, the seller never gave me a review, therefore their bogus 5 star remains. ALL SELLERS ON THIS SITE HAVE A 5 STAR REVIEW.

My mother who is not tech savvy has had me helping her with cleaning out her closets. She posted a pair of brand new Ugg Mules for sale. The woman who bought them got my mother to agree to sell them for $38. My mother shipped them in Mercari's three day time frame. Over 24 hours after receiving them, the woman claimed they were not as described and were not the size stated. Within 2 hours, Mercari's "customer" service had approved a refund. When we questioned why, they told us they couldn't release any information about the customer's request, to ask her. We did - her response was not as described/ not size stated. When we continued and bucked Mercari explaining that there is no way and we needed to know what exactly was not as described and how the size was not as stated, they said we could be assured they had gotten pictorial evidence but couldn't tell us anything about it. A representative told my mother to ask for the item back and then when she got them back to open a dispute. She did. Now she has been told - we already approved the refund so we're sorry you're upset but forget it we aren't changing our decision - EVEN THOUGH there is pictorial proof that the woman's claims were false AND that there is NO substantive reason a refund should have been processed according to Mercari's PUBLISHED POLICY. Their customer service is absolute BS, and if you get the right person, they will give a refund for no reason just because you didn't like the item once purchasing it. And I am reporting them to the BBB as well for false claims.
And Mercari - don't even try to silence me by saying I haven't had a genuine buying or selling experience with you! I've been a member since 2017 and my username is BrookeM! I see where you are trying to silence others by reporting a "breach" - don't even try that BS with me! I'm so furious that I'm ready to seek legal rulings against your company!
Doesn't do good business allows sellers to cancel orders and repost for higher prices I accepted an offer from the seller and two days later the order was canceled and updated at higher price mercari doesn't care I was on phone for over an hour I got no answer other than my money would be refunded in 5-7days it's sad that a company allows its customers to be treated like this
Mecari closed my account held my 84.75 that was, already processed st 1:15pm 12/30/19 an reversed it back at 9:35pm on 12/30/19 after I gave them a piece of my mind. Trying to say I had a previous account. This was the only account I had with them. They committed fraud back reversing a balance bank transfer that was already processed an I have screen shot to proof it. Scammers an thevies. I will getting my lawyer involved. Tired of lying companies that target hard working people
I purchased a second hand Apple Watch on Mercari. Received it on 12/16, rated them on 12/19 cause I thought I had to... daughter opened it on Christmas and it was locked with an Apple ID. I tried contacting the seller. The response was it was my husbands he forgot, we will call Apple, I'll check my email, try this and this passcode. I contacted Mercari about but of course since I rated the seller I'm screwed. It is unreal that they do not have any buyer and seller protection even after ratings. Stay away from Mercari! UPDATE: since I was unable to communicate through Mercari to provide my PayPal address for a refund, I mailed the seller a letter with all my information. The seller texted me once they received my letter and told me they were refunding me minus shipping. There are still amazingly fair people out there. As for Mercari... not fair.
I bought an echo show from a seller.it worked perfectly and there was no reason for me not to rate the seller. But immediately after I rate the seller the reported the device stolen and amazon disabled my device and replace him with another device. I told Mercari about the scam and they didn't even read the complaint.my point is they get the three days ratings before pay right what are they doing to prevent this type of scam. Now I have a device that don't work whilst the seller have my money and another device from amazon. Mercari is not safe they don't protect the buyer
To summarize: stay away. I have been using mercari since 2017. I joined when there weren't many safe options to sell your stuff. Mercari offered that. The customer service has went downhill. I'm both a buyer and seller. If you are Selling anything with value just don't bother. The buyers left are scavengers and lowballers because no one wants to spend and throw their money away by being scammed. Congrats mercari you drove the good buyers away. If you are buying be careful. I ordered a ring that looked like it came out of bubble gum machine. It was marked PANDORA and the size was a 9 not a 6. The seller blatantly misadvertised their product and all they said was sorry you are out of luck unless you can prove it is incorrect size and is fake. I wouldve had to drive and get it sized at a jeweler just to get a refund. Oh, but it gets better. After being verbally harrassed by the seller and jumping through hoops. I confirmed the sell because I wanted to review the seller and warn other buyers. I was respectful and did nothing verbally abusive compared to her review for me. Here's the kicker. Mercari removed my review from her page so She can do this to somebody else! There were other complaints to this buyer as well around the same time frame. They deleted my review for the seller! I blocked her because i felt uncomfortable knowing she had my address and like I said verbally abused me in the chat. I am still in shock. Mercari used to be safe and secure but not anymore. I will be closing my account with them. I suggest you look elsewhere. I did not want a free item or even a refund. I just wanted to send the ring back and be done with it. Unprofessional and unsettling. Disappointed because of the potential... its worse than dealing with ebay.
I guess wow is all I can say. It's one thing that they kept nickeling and diming and then now have added a processing fee in addition to increasing their shipping and then taking a cut of it... but what absolutely disgusted me is I shipped an item to a buyer and the post office damaged it. It was Mercari's shipping label that I bought from them so they canceled the order but did not refund me or give me any payment then put in the claim and kept the money! That's right Mercari kept the money from a damaged item so I'm out the cost of the item, The sale proceeds and because you're using their shipping label they got paid for your sale!

My account was suspended indefinitely after I attempted to transfer my balance of $1740 to my bank account... with no explanation why, so everyone be wary of Mercari they WILL STEAL any real money you make selling through their application. I will be reporting them to the BBB if they refuse to give me the money I am owed through selling my items on their site.
I paid $250 for a broken bottle of perfume from Upscale_save through Mercari and neither would give me a refund!
They closed out my account and are now withholding my funds and customer service wont even respond to my inquiries for help! SCAM APP
I have been selling on Mercari for about 7 months now and have done well with selling items I no longer want or need. Couple of times I felt the customer service and the way they handle issuses I didnt feel like my concerns were valid and not answered. It has been about 3 weeks now and still dealing with them and think my items are now lost or stolen. The many different reps all telling different things like wrong shipping labels being created, they need to be more organized! There escalated shipping team must be blind. Feel free to contact me if you would like me to elaborate. I love being able to have another place to sell my stuff but my confidence in them is none.
This site has NO means to talk to a reason. The phone number given is an auto-answer with menus. After you may make the appropriate selection, the call is disconnected. I called 4 times and made 4 different selections with the same result.? The reason for my calls? Seller sold me a misrepresented item: shirt was to be a XL and it was only a Large. I contacted the seller within an hour of receiving the item and sell said they would take back/refund, but did nothing.
