Was psyched to find this seasonal item from christmas and Never received confirmation or any advance communication but money was taken out immediately. I had to search & question (no way to get in touch with seller on this site) for two days until 5 days after I found a message on site stating ONLY "Seller could not ship item" That's it. No reason. So they have $135.00 of mine with a vague explanation of your money will be returned in 30-45 business days. Holy rip-off batman! Out of the blue my purchase and money are gone. This was my first time using Mercadi... and the last. Hope I get my hard earned money back so I can find another pallet.
Bought a synthetic fur vest that when it arrived. Not only was it damp it did not even look like the photo, looked like it was completely damaged from being machine washed and dried, cuz the synthetic fur was fried. It also smelled like they were trying to wash the smell of cigarette smoke out because even though you could smell heavy detergent and fabric softener it still had a really bad smell that it didn't cover. Thank God, I didn't spend anymore than 20.00 but still... sent them the photos of what it looked like when it arrived, and even though it looked horrendous, they still did not refund my money... don't bother to buy or sell with them... disgraceful...!

I sold a handbag to some scum bag. Two days later after the bag was delivered I got a message from Mercari saying the buyer requested a return and it was approved. Almost a week later my package was delivered except it wasnt my bag! The buyer put another cheap bag in the box and scammed me! Eventually I finally got in touch with mercari and guess what they did? NOT A $#*!ING THING! Now Im out $200. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this horrible site. Huge scam

I bought something for the first time from Mercari. Paid via PayPal, got tracking, got my package in expected condition. Should be done, right? Nope nut bag seller left me a one star review because I didn't communicate with her. Lol sorry I'm not looking for new friends, just want what I paid for. This is an absolute great site to shop on. Very easy to become a seller as well I believe in a few years from now this site will be in direct competition with eBay. Plus if you have a problem with an item and you let them know your account is credited back immediately. Mercari took money from my Paypal account in error. No purchase or transaction was made the date of this debit. The money was returned the following day BUT They never notified me. I saw another transaction I didn't recognize and I panicked and opened a dispute. Mercari immediately suspended my account. I had over 50 five star reviews, had been using the app for a year. I cannot get my $50 balance in my Mercari account unless I give them my birthdate and social security number.? Like I can trust a company that dipped into my PayPal account without authorization and then failed to notify me, suspended me and is holding my money hostage until I divulge all my personal information needed for identity theft. If this sounds like a good time to you then by all means use Mercari!

My very first purchase was for a black romper from Forever 21 size M. What I received was a very old brown button up XL sweater. They make contacting them impossible. I needed to contact them about this but there is no option for receiving the wrong thing. What a joke. I will NEVER buy anything from this company again!

I purchased a Nest Thermostat for $110. The seller assured me it was in not broken or defective but when I received it the glass was broken. I made a claim for a return to Mercari, right away, before rating the seller, as they require. However, they denied my claim. Now I am stuck with a broken device.

I just sold a $1500 Herve Leger Dress. The FedEx tracking didnt update so Mercari assumed it was lost cancelled the transaction, refunded the buyer and I got $100 compensation! FedEx then confirmed the item was delivered 2 weeks prior and despite this Mercari didnt care. They told me to try contact the buyer who removed themselves from the site after getting my dress AND refund! Furious I just lost $1500 dress for $100! Mercari should not have cancelled this without checking or investigating first.
On another note I sold a pair of brand new adidas sneakers. The buyer said there was a hole between the sole and Sneaker (which was the actual design of the shoe and was clearly seen on my images AND adidas website, it was a design feature) so they refunded the buyer and I lost the sneakers and my money! Such a joke! Im boycotting and advising my friends to do the same.
Been using eBay for YEARS and never had an issue once.

I have been selling on Mercari for several months now, having earned over 120 five star reviews, 100% customer satisfaction. I also made many purchases. Mercari decided to change their shipping policy, and listings automatically defaulted to seller paying shipping. I had an item on sale for $25.00 and my original posting was buyer pays shipping ($15.00, it was a large object). Because of the default I ended up making $7.50, having to pay the $15.00 myself. I have been in contact with Mercari multiple times, and have written negative reviews on other sites. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Mercari's response has always been they were sorry but unable to do anything, not taking responsibility and blaming me. I truly loved Mercari (was fed up with selling on eBay), but any company that refuses to resolve such a simple issue doesn't deserve my business. I pulled my remaining listings (dozens of them), and will no longer buy or sell on Mercari. If I can just steer one person away I'll feel better about it. They are greedy, do not care about sellers and any company willing to throw away many years of potential profits over a mere $15.00 refund seems on the road to self-destruct. I do not wish to hear a response from them, but their practice is to try and act like a caring company (they are not). It's tempting, but if you sell they will get you eventually.
I listed several items for sale on this app for about 2 to 3 week and was able to sell one item for $9. Since the amount was small I did not request a direct deposit to my bank account right away, plus for balance under $10 I hay to pay a direct deposit fee of $2 so I decided to wait till i sell another item. Out of sudden Mecari suspended my account without a specific reason. I contacted their customer service thru the app asking the reason, it took 2 days for them to reply stating they have to transfer my question to their compliance department, then a day later I see a message notification from the app my apps I hope it's their compliance department's response. However, as I click to view the message an error message pops up stating my account has been removed and this user (myself) no longer using this app, I am not able to list, sell, contact customer service, or request direct deposit etc... So I lost my $9 without any reason. They do not have an email address listed on their app nor a phone # to call, and take a long time to respond to my submitted question. That makes me feel like this is a rip off. They took my money and I don't have a way to request a refund.

The comment by Mercari is an outright lie. I have weeks of emails showing that Mercari doesn't allow you to return an item no matter what (now they're claiming they do which is as bogus as it is laughable) and I have copies of emails where I show proof that a seller sold me a knock-off Kyllie Cosmetics lip kit (which they claim is authentic) and Mercari only stating that i can return it. Nothing is done against the seller who racked up a whopping 500+ reviews of people complaining of knockoffs sales (I sent over a dozen emails on this topic and Mercari just responds with form replies). Not a single ad was deleted. I ended up reporting Mercari, with copies of all the communications, to the FBI cyber crimes unit. They don't care if someone sells a knockoff as long as they get their profit!

Blatantly allows the sale of fakes (If you report any wrongdoing you get a virtual shrug and a 'just return it). WORSE if something breaks. I ordered a nail polish lot through them which was shipped without protection (by the seller). Not much of a surprise that it arrives so mangled that my mail lady had to use a special tray to keep it from damaging the other mail. Mercari's idea of a solution. Return it. Except that the mail doesn't take broken glass without wrapping in a cardboard box. No photographic evidence or confirmation from the post changes anything about their ridiculous position and leaves you with a dripping box of broken crap.

After almost a year and a half of being a Mercari user, with 288 positive reviews and excellent comments, Mercari suspended my account and immediately after my deposit direct month ago. I understand the reason, although it seems to me exaggerated. I do not want to belong to the site, it is not loyal, it does not provide good service to the client.The problem is that it does not want to return my refundIt, is absurd that because for a long time I passed my refund to my bank account, sending it and receiving merchandise and never had a problem. I've read the app reviews, I'm sorry I did not do it before. Today Mercari kept my refund. Although I always kept in touch, I gave them the requested information, I NEVER got an answer. No adviser contacted me. I want to know who is responsible for supervising the cases. I hope for a prompt and effective response. His procedure is not constitutional. I just want my 200 dollars back. I HATE MERCARI WITH A BURNING PASSION. I TOLD them that someone was trying to return my dress in a condition I did NOT mail it in. OF COURSE, they approved the return. I was then told my dress would ship back to me. The tracking information said I should have received the item, but I never did! I am so incredibly upset because mercari said there was nothing they could do about it. They better make this right. They don't answer my calls. I have photos of the dress in perfect condition. The person who tried returning magically stopped responding to my messages once the return went through. I would sue them if i could. NEVER USE THIS SITE. IT IS A SCAM!

I sincerely wish that I did not feel that I must write what follows:
Not one item that I've promptly paid for shipped, and even one that canceled, the seller didn't refund monies. I'm not sure what is going on but I only once have I ever written a poor review; I tend to simply not comment and then cease doing business with that person/company. In this case, I am most disturbed because there are too many unsuspecting other people out there who will also suffer if we don't draw attention to this site! I wanted to sell on it, but now have serious doubts.
IF BY ANY CHANCE, restitution is made and my items arrive, I will happily post a different point of view. Right now, it's been weeks since I placed orders and nada... on either side, except I'm out of my money paid.
Also be aware, that sellers don't seem to reply in any way, Mercari gives you an auto reply and only time will tell if they say anything, from anyone working there. This is why places like Amazon and PayPal make so much sense, as you can speak with a live person who holds their practices and employees accountable.

I sent out an expensive item that got stuck pending while transferring between FedEx and USPS. Mercari assumed that package was lost in transit, and cancelled it on the same day the tracking updated to a new location. I reached out to multiple sources for customer support but no one was able to fully correct this issue. They blamed me and told me if it isn't delivered on time it will get cancelled. I have been going crazy trying to intercept this item, and begging Mercari for a refund but they're so convinced it's lost in transit. Now someone somewhere is getting an expensive free item, it's probably going to be a good weekend for them while it's feeling like my worst over here.
I wish I had read all the reviews before even deciding to become a seller on this app, I deactivated all my items and I'm going to try to sell on another app. For anyone reading this, just don't do it, it's not even worth it anyways all they do is take take take.
