Never received what I bought, seller never shipped out…been trying to get a refund for 60 days. Finally got a email receipt that they were refunding back on my card Aug 1, never got refund. Phone always on hold forever than their system hangs up on you. Back and forth on emails with no response to a solution. Disputed on my card still in review, all for $33.95. NEVER SHOP ON MERCARI! It's not eBay! A warning!
I sold a fragile cosmetic product on Mercari, following their recommended packaging guidelines carefully. Despite this, the item was damaged during shipping.
When I contacted Mercari for assistance, they refused reimbursement, stating that my packaging did not meet their standards, even though I followed the guidance. To make matters worse, the buyer was allowed to keep the damaged product, leaving me, the seller, with no choice or recourse.
I have contacted Mercari multiple times and filed a BBB complaint. Their response did not resolve the issue, and I remain dissatisfied.
This experience suggests that Mercari's policies favor buyers over sellers, particularly in cases of fragile items. Sellers should be aware that even when following packaging instructions, they may not be protected.
Mercari is a complete joke. Their customer service is absolutely unacceptable. The employees are rude, dismissive, and treat you like you're an inconvenience to them, rather than a customer they're supposed to help. It's clear they don't care at all about providing any real service. The whole team seems like they're just a bunch of clueless, arrogant, COVID rush hires who have no idea what they're doing. I was dealing with a simple return, and five different employees had a nerveous break down and couldn't handle it. Not a single one could solve the problem or even act like they cared. If you're looking for a company that respects you as a customer, look elsewhere. Mercari is definitely not it.
First off i sold a dior necklace to someoned Mina. Her real name isn even Mina. Beware she is a scammer because she claimed to not have receive the item when it clearly said delievered. Then i told her i have screenshot proof that it did and she stopped replying to me. Then she tried to cancel the order after it said delievered. But the item was already delievered I told her I contacted USPS Postmaster and I told where they are going to give me the gps coordinates where the package is at. A few hours later, she claims a return. Well Well, after all she caught lying and now she has to return my item as described. Even though she has good ratings dont trust people easily don't let people scam you! Mercari always sides with buyers and not sellers! PLEASE DONT LET MINA BUY THISS SELLER OR LET HER BUY ANYTHING!
I was disappointed after purchasing a wallet that had a horrible smell. Not a new chemical smell. More like moldy, mildew, mice infested smell. I heard Mercari doesn't allow returns for odors but I figured that applied to something washable like cigarette or thrift store smells on a shirt or overpowering plastic smell that will subside. I requested a return and was denied stating items can't be returned due to odors. I knew Mercari was a gamble so that one I lost. What upset me was they gave the seller a 5 Star rating! I was not able to warn future buyers and her rating was enhanced by my loss of money! Apparently if you request a return and it's denied the seller gets a rave review from Mercari! It makes no sense! Very wrong! Attached photos show them explaining' why I couldn't leave a rating or my own review and their policy for their 5 Star rating system. *Request return sounds so much better than denied returns. They make it sound like the buyer of the unsatisfactory purchase was refunded making the transaction at least neutral. That's not the case. You either deal with losing your money and give an accurate rating or request a return and possibly loose your money and that seller gets a 5 Star review thanks to Mercari!
Well ebay is not perfect but better than Mercari. Site is full of well I'll be good. Full of "goody good princesses " who take there time shipping. They think they can get a shipping label printed and that counts as shipping. I don't consider it shipped until the package carrier has item in possession. At least ebay sellers are mostly serious sellers. So far mercari is my worse second hand online shopping site.
Shipped out my item to the seller. It broke while in transit. The customer requested a refund and mercari asked if i wanted the item back or to let the customer keep the item. Customer kept her refund and money was deducted from my account. My post was removed from my own account so i could not even see it has ever been listed or sold. Clearly this was an issue during transit and mercari decided to keep my money. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Their ratings are horrible and an issue. I send all of my items overnight, still get low ratings for dumb things that i am happy to resolve between the buyer, but of course they don't reach out. UNFAIR RATINGS ARE A THING.
They like to let idiot individuals who sell things that are not allowed, and prescription drugs/items. Prescription items, that illegal. Just frustrating the $#*! they let the sellers get away with
STAY AWAY! I sold a jewelry and it was returned by buyer in an obviously intentionally damaged condition. Order was automatically taken down when it was delivered back to me. I filed a dispute and Mercari disapproved using a very scripted reply saying there was no evidence.
I purchased a plate through a dealer on this site. When I open the package I found the plate was broken. The dealer did a really bad job packing this delicate item such that it would've been more of a surprise had it arrived intact. Since I happened to be on vacation when the item arrived I was already outside of the 3 day window of opportunity to request a refund before I even opened it. There is no way of contacting customer service either through phone or email. So I paid $30 for a broken plate and have no recourse. It's really unreasonable to require any action to take place within 3 days of the item's arrival. Really bad business!
I am trying to get help from Mercari that I was scammed out of. Buyer asked to have it shipped out today or they would not buy it. I packaged it up and rushed it to Fedex. As soon I marked it shipped the buyer cancelled the order. Once the shipping wheels are in motion it is difficult to stop delivery. The thieves know this and take advantage of eager sellers that want to accommodate a buyer. Mercari is impossible to get hold of via telephone but they did respond to my email. They apologized and offered me a 5% discount on my next purchase. Thanks but no thanks... They really don't care that I had a laptop basically stolen from me. BEWARE OF PEOPLE ASKING FOR SAME DAY SHIPPING!
I bought an August smart lock on Mercari, and when it arrived, I inspected it as best I could. The box had the correct skew, all the parts appeared to be there, the lock appeared functioning and the WiFi bridge plugged in and connected to the internet so I approved the sale. I had to approve the sale before installing the lock because Mercari only proved you 3 days to approve the sale and it turned out the lock was not compatible with my deadbolt (no big deal, but I needed a locksmith to change it out and rekey it). Upon going to install the lock, I noticed something was off and realized when examining the TINY skew on the lock itself, it was a first generation version of the lock, not 3rd as the box said and the seller had advertised (years older and not compatible with any of my smartphone devices). Upon installation it became clear the battery compartment to the lock was jammed, rendering it unusable, and one of the pieces that appeared to have been in the box was actually just the outer plastic covering of the piece, not the actual sensor itself. In short, I recurved a broken old lock and there was really no way for me to know this, even with a good inspection of the product, until it was installed. I noticed the issue within 2 weeks of purchasing the lock and when I contacted the seller he blocked me. I notified Mercari, and asked they as least remove the 3 star review the scammer left me (what?), and they replied thanking me for letting them know, telling me they would investigate, but that, per their internal policies I would never know the result of the investigation and was never getting a refund. Worst customer service ever. I cannot believe I switch from EBay to them. I will be running back to them with open arms, happy to pay any additional fees for their transparency and relative integrity.
Mercari doesn't give buyers any protection. Purchases a Burberry bag from seller M-closet And also Mercado claiming all her bags are authentic, but Real authentication confirm that the bag is faked. I contacted both mercari and the seller, but the seller to request a return since Mercari claims that it guaranteed authentic or your money back. Seller didn't even bother replying nor concern that bag she sold me is Faked. No luck getting a refund from Mercari. Scammer! Stick with poshmark.
I ordered a phone, its says 10 days later that there is no shipping date. I cancel phone, they require 24 hours to notify the seller meanwhile there is no one to talk to. There is nothing to make you feel as if some one is doing something. I get a feeling that I am going to get ripped off. Lets wait and see but i should have read this site about staying away from these guys.
Bought a laptop. It went into a day download and i thought it would fix the glitches. Now... we can't get the internet browser up at all. Comes up... goes down... up down. So I'd like a refund but now out of the three say it's out of the three days. So I paid with PayPal do filed with them.
What I learned with my first (and probably last) experience with Mercari is that it is not a safe place to buy. And not because I think sellers there are all fraudulent and dishonest, but because Mercari's policies seem better designed to protect a bad, dishonest seller than a buyer in danger of being scammed. Mercari promises safety and protection to buyers but, in my experience, it provides none. You buy something that turns out to be nothing like it was described (as I did), or arrives broken or maybe never really worked... whatever the problem, Mercari makes it very difficult for the buyer to report or find help with the problem -- or perhaps more importantly to Mercari -- find a way to return the item and get a refund. And this is by design, starting with Mercari giving you very little time, only a few hours after your item is delivered to initiate a "request for a return" (which may or not be approved) and which includes providing pictures of the item as when it was first delivered (how many people have that?) and some such ridiculous requirements. Then you realize it is nearly impossible to find someone to contact and get help with your return request, you look for and find no way to report the problem or to get some information and guidance. Given the lack of support and how little time you're given for the return request (which may or may not be approved) and other complications, you might decide to take the loss and let the seller keep your money, but punish him/her with a negative review. And this is a choice, because at Mercari you can't do both... request a return (which may not be approved) and leave a negative feedback. This means many negative experiences are never reported, even though it is feedback that could warn others about a bad seller. So, if anything, it is not the buyer who gets the most protection at Mercari but those bad sellers who take his/her money. My experience has taught me Mercari is not a good and safe place to buy. And may be not a good place to sell either which is why I will stick with Ebay for now, where buyers do have some protection.
This is my honest and first experience on the platform. I bought a skillet, but I didn't want it anymore. I spoke with the seller to arrange a return and she was fine with it. I just had to wait till I receive the item to initiate a return. When it did, I rated the seller thinking that the "return request" would appear afterwards. I was so wrong. That button didn't pop up anywhere... The seller told me I shouldn't have done that because then I cannot make the return. It was then that I read Mercari's policies on returns. Their return policies are horrible! I tried speaking with the seller to still arrange a return since she's located an hour away from me and oh surprise she ghosted me! I was so upset and disappointed, I emailed customer service. They simply said that per Mercari's policies, what's done is done, and if I want I can resell the item. But that's not a solution! Interestingly enough, a five hours after their response, they closed up my support request! Looking at my experience, Mercari is the perfect place to scam anybody with wrong or faulty items. Customer service won't help you. Mercari is not responsible if something happens. And in the end, I frikin lost my money. None of this is exaggerated. Please heed my advice to never buy items from this platform and save yourself some trouble. It's not worth the headache.
Josh86 from mecari site: Spoke with seller "ring deals" about buying the item above. Purchased the listing and 12 hours later cancel because item was on "hold" then why even have it listed. False advertising. Shame for allowing this type of business. Unprofessional
Overall I like Mercari. It is easy to list an item, and they only take a modest 10% commission or fee of the amount of the sale. But the thing I don't like is the potential buyers hitting the "Like" button. Now any Mercari seller or buyer know that when a seller gets a "like: about one of their listings, that is a cue from that buyer to "promote" or lower the price of that listing. I have played that game many times as a seller. I would see that someone "like" my item, and in order to entice them to buy it, I would lower the price a bit.
Lately that has not been the case. I would get a "LIke" and lower the price, only to see that the item still didn't sell. Now the price is lower than I wanted in the first place, and it starts all over again with another "buyer" liking the item and expecting you to lower the price again. So I would once again, lower the price, and the item would still not sell.
It is worse than running a garage sale, with everyone coming up to you with a item with a price tag on it and asking for money off. But to make matters worse, Mercari won't let you lower the price to what you want, they tell you that you must lower the price between two different amounts, or no go, Now you can always just re-price it doing an item edit, but then Mercari doesn't promote it to all the buyers out there.
I am an E-Commerce seller and not someone who is just trying to clean out the basement. Maybe that's why I feel the way I do about MercarI. And if that's who you are, just trying to clean out your closet of unwanted items, maybe it doesn't matter to you. I think that sometimes there must be a bunch of teenagers hitting the like buttons just to make us all lower our prices, and then you never hear from them again.
Answer:Please contact the Federal Trade Commision and Internet Crime Complaint Center. (IC3). It is illegal to keep anyones money! The IRS would like to know where all this money is also? Whos paying taxes on it? FTC will get your money! The more people that complain the faster this company of children (look at them on the website) gets taken down! The faster we all get paid!

Answer:Good question. Poshmark charges a ridiculous $6.99 shipping fee for everything, regardless of weight. Only thing is, you cannot mail anything for less than $2.66 but I see your point
Answer:Hi there,
When you purchase an item on Mercari, we hold payment to your seller until you confirm you've received your order and it is as described in the listing. You just need to rate your seller in order for payment to be released. If you don't submit a seller Rating within 3 days of receipt of the item, or if we can confirm delivery through the items tracking information, well assume the transaction was successful and release payment to your seller. Im also contacting the BBB. Others may want to as well. Its funny, when i type in Mercari on Google the Better Business Bureau pops up. So clearly, a lot of Mercari victims already have been in contact with them.
Answer:Hi Richard,
Many factors affect how quickly an item will sell; inventory, seasonality, competition, price, and so forth. Some items sell in minutes, some take a bit longer. Here are some of our seller tips: https://www.mercari.com/help_center/category/2/
