The process was very easy and worth every penny I spent. Was thankful to be able to watch my old videotapes digitally that I hadn't seen in so many years and some very special ones that I had never watched. This is amazing and I highly recommend it!
After more than thirty years of storage I finally made the move to have a set of 20 8mm tapes digitized. Legacybox made the entire process an easy one-from packing & shipping the videos, providing a timeline for completion and providing options for the final product (DVD, flash drive or online). I am very pleased with the final digitized MP4's and have been sharing out snippets with family members and bringing smiles to my three daughters as they see themselves as they were 30 years ago. I am totally satisfied with my Legacybox experience,
Very cool service. From the start, everything is clear and easy to use. I was a little nervous sending originals but their process gave me some confidence. The conversion took longer than expected but it's been over 20 years since seeing these vids so what a few more weeks.
Final product was professional. The one complaint would be too much communication in the beginning, and after the sale. How many items can someone have? Overall, satisfied!
Legacy Box was professional, cordial and accurately processed our vintage family media. We will all be enjoying these safely restored images for years to come.
Great experience. Digitization of old childhood videos was good quality and completed in a timely manner.
I sent them photos of the 8mm reels. They responded that everything should go well. Paid the money sent in 2 reels. It took them three weeks to acknowledge that they were received. Seven more days to 'verify codes.' Then a message that they could not process the film, four days for items to be returned unprocessed. The process seems like a scam, to me. This company should not be stealing money like this. MAJOR RIP OFF!
Let me start by saying that I purchased directly through Legacy Boxes website but I need to review for others to know about how horrible they are. I purchased the 40 item legacy box for my parents for Christmas. Between the shipping, taxes, dvds, and a one time download the total came out to $610. Mind you, this was bought on Black Friday and 50% off! Well, turned out my parents already digitized their old VHS so I inquired about a return. I was told returns are good within 30 days minus shipping and restock fee. It took them 17 days and refunded $447. I got charged 150 dollars for a cardboard box that I paid shipping on! It is literally a cardboard box. Not even one of the nice ones that shows in the picture. There are so many options to digitize. Please do you homework. Great choices on Amazon for around 150 dollars and you can do all your VHS yourself. This is a shady company that won't be around for long.
Half of the videos I paid for weren't processed and LegacyBox refuses to respond and tell me where my videos are. This has cost me hundreds of dollars. Apparently legal action is all they will respond to, so that's the next step. Avoid this unethical company at all costs.
Thumbs way down for Legacybox. Since I see that they are advertising again, thought I should share my story of doing business with them back in 2016. I see from recent reviews that their way of doing business has not changed. I sorted, catalogued and packed family film reels and VCR tapes ranging from the 1940's to 2015 in boxes provided by Legacybox (see below) back in 2016. It took a long time but finally received back 3 dvds individually labeled Nelson Family Film, Family Film 1, Family Film 2. No chronological information. My reels, tapes and catalogue data were returned in total disarray (see below). Imagine my surprise at also receiving 22 DVDs that were not mine. I contacted the company. They were not interested in the DVDs received by mistake. I've kept them for the last 7 years in hopes they could somehow be reunited with their proper owners. They were labeled. Some of the names are Nathan, Tanner, Winston, Kevin, Bryan. If these could be your DVDs, please reply to this review and tell me how to contact you. I had more film reels and VCR tapes to be converted to DVD but would never do business with Legacybox again. Instead, I found a local business that does the same thing and they label each DVD and case with pictures plus dates. (see below). They are friendly and professional. I got my DVDs in 1 week at a fraction of the cost of Legacybox.I highly recommend Transfer Me to DVD in Toledo, Ohio. Check your local area. There may be someone nearby that will do the job better and cheaper. If not, Transfer Me to DVD takes mail-in orders.too.
My wife and I sent multiple old VCR family recordings and photos to Legacy Box a few months ago. Our intent was to digitalize these items so we could free up some storage space. We were initially very pleased with the results as we viewed our memories from the thumb drive that held all of the data. However, when I went to look at them again and begin to organize for our children the thumb drive would not load onto my laptop. This was the same laptop that was used initially. I contacted them to see what could be done and was told that they only keep data for 30 days and there nothing they could do. Since we disposed of the originals all of those priceless memories are gone forever. My advice? Do not dispose of your memorabilia until you have made copies or uploaded the the thumb drive to the cloud or other back-up device. It would have been helpful for LegacyBox to have made that recommendation when they returned our materials.
I purchased a Mother's Day special deal which cost $443.00.
At that time I provided the shipping information. I waited 8 weeks for the box to ship which it never arrived at my home as a gift to my wife. I was working for several months out of town and expected the box would arrive at my home.
After much effort which took several weeks and months I get an answer back that my $443.00 only purchased a coupon and I had to do something to redeem my coupon. I tried following their complicated procedure to redeem what I now found out to be a coupon. When I entered the "coupon code" It responded that my code was invalid.
I've tried many times to contact Legacybox and usually I don't get a response but when I do they give me the same directions on how to redeem my coupon which results in telling me my code is invalid.
DON'T USE THIS COMPANY
It seems I am just out the $443.00.
I arranged the reviews newest to oldest, and noticed that negatives reviews happen randomly, but positive reviews are clumped around a couple of days. How can this be? I suspect Legacy Box employees have been assigned the task of writing positive reviews to get the average up.
Sent in 8 tapes, they converted 2 and sent the rest back saying they were blank or damaged. We viewed all of the returned tapes with no issues, bought a $90 digitizing unit and converted all the rest ourselves. Plus it took months to get them back with the only communication saying basically, "you're in the queue". Wish I had done more research before wasting the money with them. Oh, and the 2 we did get back in digital form were much worse quality than our DIY transfers!
Purchased a 10-kit conversion and my girlfriend purchased it for me as well as a Christmas present. Ask for a refund and they charge 70% of the discounted price OR 20% retail for the restocking fee. Which is crazy since it is basically covering the cost of shipping an empty little box. $70 for shipping an empty little box. What a joke - this is not a reputable company. DO not ORDER from them.
Not only do they take months to process an order, but they lose items you have sent. So much for preserving your legacy. I sent video tapes, photos, and films. What was returned was of poorer quality than the originals. All items returned were dark, out of focus, or grainy. Do not trust them with irreplaceable items as what i deemed most important was never copied or returned. The quality of the work is below what you would expect from children experimenting with photo software for the first time. You will save hundreds of dollars (I spent $700 with this firm) by ordering photo saving equipment from Amazon and doing it yourself or having a knowledgable friend do it, even for a fee. Learning to use and to process your own photos with your own equipment means you can process in the future, control the quality of the images, and not risk losing the originals. I estimate I would have saved $400.00 and 3 months waiting time had I done so myself. Also beware that they request additional funds before sending your items with no reason for the charges and also have a yearly charge for "preserving" your data.
I had used LegacyBox once, and had good results. I chose to use them again, and placed a large (over $500) order. Soon after, I lost my job, and requested cancellation and refund. Though I had just received their box for shipping tapes, I had not shipped anything. A few days later I received a refund equal to half the order purchase. I requested explanation why the refund was half, and was told they deducted the shipping cost of their box (understandable) plus a 20% restocking fee of $220. Again, I asked how they came up with 20% on $399.99 product order, and they stated it was based on the retail cost of my order, $1,099.99, not the actual discounted cost I paid! Note, there is nothing in their terms, that I can find online, that states their restocking policy. It seems to be random and at their discretion. I am now in the process of having to dispute this excessive charge with PayPal, and have filed a complaint with BBB. If I ever do use a transfer service again, it will NOT be LegacyBox!
The results were not very good. I realize that some of the tapes were old (Beta tapes from the 80's!), but it looks as though no one even took the care to "track" the tapes. Some are even unwatchable and no refund was offered for those. They kept my entire payment. Also took much longer than they said it would. I will never use them again and will look for someone local.
I purchased a 40 item package to do a large order and recovery of our old family videotapes. Even though I had used Legacybox before, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of my service this time. It took several months to get my tapes back, and they sent back tapes as unable to transfer. However, when I took the tapes to a local transfer company, they had no problem with the transfer. I essentially had to pay twice to have those tapes transferred, and Legacybox could not get the job done. I wish that I had gone with the local company from the beginning. When I tried to communicated with Legacybox's customer service, my concerns were dismissed.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well.
