During the pandemic, I had purchased several Legacy boxes to convert old analog videos and photos to digital. I would rank the service as 4 star since it was just convert the photos "as is" with no attempt to improve picture clarity prior to scanning. On the videos, they converted all the videos but many were very poor quality which they did state in a note when they sent finished files. I don't believe they should have converted the very poor videos without sending a note to get my approval 1st. Lastly, it took more than 12 weeks to get each of the orders back which was a month more than the maximum processing estimated interval. They did provide the scanning for very reasonable price as I used Groupon deal for 1000 photos/30 videos.
There were parts in the DVDs that I thought they could have cleaned them up a bit more. I enjoyed seeing people I never thought I would see again. They were so quick that I was able to send them to my daughter in time for Christmas.
Very happy with the service that I received! Quick turn around and consistent communication from legacy box during the whole time. Very happy with the product, happy to finally watch the video from 25 years ago!
I will just tell you why legacybox is deceptive and unfair.
I sent a bundle of tapes and films to be processed, it was order number *******. Your company failed to copy three of the items adequately, because they do not adjust the TRACKING of VHS tapes. The resultant discs were just static. After arguing with your representative I was offered a 50 percent refund. I find this to be inadequate and insulting.
First off, your company puts a sticker on the supposedly defective tapes stating that they did everything possible to process the items. This is not true. Because I consequently paid a guy $55. To get my tapes copied properly. They came out fine with a slight tracking adjustment. Your company DOES NOT do everything possible to ensure ideal quality.
Secondly, you advertise on your website that SATISFACTION is GUARANTEED. We'll, since I am not satisfied with your production process and your inadequate refund policy, I am not satisfied and your guarantee is false.
There you have it. I challenge you now to post my feedback, or to process a full refund for the three faulty jobs.
They managed to digitize everything I sent them, including VHS tapes from the mid-1990s that had a decent amount of wear and tear. The movies look great and I am relieved that I can access these memories easily.
Our historical society here in Vermont owns many priceless old reels of citizens - now long passed away, speaking about their lives in the 1800s and early 1900s when they worked on the famous Grand Trunk railroad. Those reels were precious to us but - we had never been able to hear them since we did not have a machine to play the reels! The reels had been recorded in the 40s, 50s, and early 60s. Since then, the reels had languished in a cardboard box inside our museum, unplayed, neglected, and in deteriorating condition. When I first saw the adverts popping up for Legacy box's services I thought 'No. Our reels are too delicate, too precious, and too rare to send to Legacy Box for processing.". I ummed and awwed over it for weeks, then, in the end, took a decision to 'trust' the reels to Legacy Box. Believe me, as president of the Island Pond Historical society this was not a decision I took lightly. I am so glad that I did. In no time at all the reels arrived at Legacy Box, were put onto CD's, and sent back to me, all perfect, and in perfect condition. This transaction could not have been smoother, it could not have been more professional, and the entire matter was expertly dealt with, efficiently handled, safely, and at the lowest cost imaginable. I will continue to use Legacy Box and am very happy to trust this company with even the most fragile and deteriorated of our rare reels. This is an exceptional service with first class customer care service, too, and they're fast! Please, have no hesitation in sending this company your most precious items, they really care, and they do a really wonderful job. Sharon Biron, President of the Island Pond Historical Society, Vermont.
I have a ton of old tapes from a camcorder that no longer works. I have nothing to lose by sending these to Legacybox because currently I can't even view them. I love that you are able to salvage what you can but it makes me wonder what I'm missing from the videos. We'll never know but I'm thrilled to get what I can from them. Anything is better than nothing! Now that our sons are adults, they actually look forward to seeing the latest videos we've had restored. Thank you!
The following was a response I emailed back to Legacy =
="I checked my inbox, trash, junk and spam mail and far as getting a reply from Lennon I can't confirm I ever got a reply.
You guys know that memories are a fragile thing and my hope was to share the family memories, through your provided service, during the Holiday Season. Well, that's clearly not going to happen. I wish you would have been as prompt at sending the Legacy Box out as you were in taking my money.
Part of my plan was to have my Sister, Niece and Nephew share one of the thumb drives of memories since they each had lost a house and all of their belongings (including family photos) in the Paradise, CA. Fire a couple of years ago. At this point and having already spent the money I will await delivery of the Legacy box and consider whether to pay additional for expedited service or just let it all 'play out'. "
Note that my Legacy Rep Lennon never replied to the email I sent in response to Legacy's email requesting how are we doing in regards to your experience.
You asked me what was my experience with your company = Well, not a fond memory.

Hi Tim, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I do apologize for any confusion regarding your order. I see that Lennon did reply to your email and when she did not receive a response she emailed you again but did not get a response. The response to your email is on the same thread that you then left a negative review for her on. I believe if you scroll down on that email where you left your review you should be able to see all correspondence. I do apologize for any confusion regarding order processing time. For orders with paid rush processing, the deadline to have your order in to us to be guaranteed for christmas delivery would be December 1st. When you placed your order, we were unfortunately past that deadline already. I do see that your box was delivered to you yesterday and I wholeheartedly hope that you enjoy going through old memories with your family during the holidays.
I have never had such wonderful customer service in my life! I would highly recommend Legacy Box. I was told I would have a turn around time of 6-8 weeks, and due to it being Christmas time and Covid, I expected it to be closer to 8. I was SHOCKED when my entire box was processed and sent back to me within 4 weeks. Every time I asked for an update, they were very prompt, kind, and helpful. They even sent me a prorated refund with no hassle when they had a sale a week after I purchased my box. My videos all turned out perfectly, and it's truly the been such a delight going back and watching them all. This was a wonderful Christmas gift to my whole family, and I feel my money was very well spent. I will definitely be recommending Legacy Box!
My wife had some old 8mm reels form when she was a little girl and I wanted to surprise her by having them converted over into a DVD. I had seen Legacy add on Facebook so I gave them a call. They worked well with me explaining all options which were available and pricing. It took a couple of weeks to get my package but when it arrived it was easy to follow instruction that they had enclosed. The reels were shipped back promptly and emails from legacy advised me on every steep taken. Refreshing to do business and get what you were promised. Thank you legacy. I'm sure the wife will be thrilled on Christmas day. Sincery. Ed Scott... Ashland Ky...
I found the ordering of your service very easy, but you charge by the reel and not the footage of tape. If I have a 3 inch reel, it is cheaper for me to go through someone else. Also, I sent some reels of film to another company and was happy that they sent the DVD's to me in a hard case with pictures of the different segments on the cover. It made for a very nice gift for my family. The turn around time was about the same as the other company, which was 3 weeks.
Found some old 16mm films from 50 years ago... sent them in hoping that at least some of them could be saved. Legacybox did a wonderful job. So many memories were preserved and I am so thankful. Some of the films were so degraded that they could not be saved. Sent in 10 rolls and only received 3 CD's but I am grateful for what they could save and record for me... They also sent me emails to let me know how they were progressing.
After starting a conversion process of Super8 and 8MM, I discovered 16MM film, in which I could not convert myself. I never used LegacyBox for film conversion (or any other server). I sent it my 16MM reels being nervous, since I only have 1 copy of the films. I paid for Rush service before Thanksgiving, not expecting the conversion to be finished quickly. I received converted films back within 2 weeks along with my reels. Service and tracking was great. Highly recommend service.
We submitted 16mm and 8mm film. The finished product is priceless and much better than we expected from these old films!
Sent in some OLD 8mm rolls I found in my Dad's stuff recently! And the First VHS tape we ever taped 35 years ago! So got to see me as a kids and my grown children when they were very little! What a treat! What a service Legacybox has! The whole experience was great! Fast and lived up to every promise! Thank you Legacybox!
I recently received the box to pack up my 8mm movies & send to legacybox.com. I have NOT received my DVD or USB stick back as of yet, so I cannot comment on the quality of work just yet. I will leave a review after I receive my DVD.
We sent in 100 slides and viewed each one to make sure that they were good. Their work was terrible, the color was horrible, faces looked orange with black flecks all over the pictures. I wanted a full refund, but was told I could only get part of a refund. Customer service was terrible. They tried to charge me three different charges, over and above what I had paid. I would ask what the charge was for and the only answer they would say was an item. They finally figured it out, I didn't owe anything.
Hi Jorene, I see you have copied your response from YOTPO over to here as well so in lieu of any confusion, I have copied my response below as well. We apologize that the digitized version of your media did not meet your expectations! We always try to get the best quality conversion possible. However, the quality of the transfer ultimately depends on the quality of the original items. We do not offer any sort of restoration, enhancement, or editing of your items. If there is an issue with the original, those issues will translate over to the digital copies. To be more specific, we do not offer: color correction, brightening, HD remastering, combining footage, or otherwise alter the composition of the original media. There are companies out there who specialize in these types of services, but we simply offer a one-to-one transfer. I hope this is helpful! We do want to make sure you feel heard, so if you have any constructive feedback you would like to provide to our Customer Service Team or any issues you would like to discuss, we can certainly look into that for you! Our contact information can be found here: legacybox.com/pages/contact-us
Cost effective, quality transmogrification process. Peace of mind with family memories is foremost and Legacybox attends to that: put materials in a box-within-a-box that Legacybox sends. Return to any UPS store. Wait a bit and your materials are returned with the digital conversions.
It was well organized. Instructions straight forward. I have not received the videos back yet. Therefore, I cannot rate the quality of conversion from 8 mm to disc.
I can't write a review because I haven't received anything back from Legacybox as yet. I have to mention that the reviews you have posted do not give me a lot of confidence.
Hi Michael, I see that you mentioned you could not leave a review yet since you've not completed your process with us yet, but this was posted as a public review! If. You'd like to delete this and post a review on your overall experience once your order has been completed, we would be delighted! If there is anything we can help you with throughout the process, please feel free to reach out to our customer service team at [email protected]
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!

Hi David, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I see that you have already been in touch with one of our customer service supervisors handling your order. Just to reiterate: I understand your frustration and apologize that your expectations were not met. We advertise that we perform a one-to-one transfer of everything that we receive. If there is an issue with the original, those issues will translate over to the digital copies.
We cannot restore, edit or improve the quality of tapes. Due to the age and natural deterioration of tapes, sometimes quality issues may occur during the digitization process. I see that you were issued a 50% refund on the items you were not satisfied with and I have gone ahead and issued the refund for the remaining 50% on the 3 items in question. These items were transferred to the best of our abilities but we are willing to make an exception regarding the refund amount since you've had them re-done at another company that offers enhancements and adjustments. Please reach back out to our customer service team if there is anything else we can help you with.
