This site is fantastic, I sent in about 10 reels from the 60s and 70s and had them digitized with legacy box. They were quick and professional, the entire process was very easy. The quality of the videos sent back was amazing and truly priceless to be able to view the videos again. I would recommend this site for sure!
I sent in 2 packages (25 photos each) with the barcodes provided. I was under the impression that 2 separate bags- 2 bar codes- paying for 2 items- meant 2 separate DVDs. Wrong, I was informed that they would be all going on 1 DVD because they like to "consolidate all your photos on as little disc as possible".( we pay for the disc) I would have gladly paid for another disc but I wasn't given that option. I asked to have the photos sent back and a refund -was told the service rep. I was dealing with was out of the office. A couple days later she told me "too late your order is already on it's way". She also told me if I wanted to put some on a 2nd disc I could do that myself. So I paid $ 54.00 to have them scan some photos.
I sent in about 15 videos to Legacy Box. They only had 4 done. They said they could not do others, and I also complained about the fuzzyness of them. Kimberly from Customer Service partially refunded me for the videos they could not make, and also told me they don't edit them in anyways (which is why I download videos with blue screens for twice as a long as needed to be. In their email they say: "Every tape is monitored to ensure the best playback possible by a trained technician. We have state-of-the-art technology, and even fiber optics for fast digital storage. We could go on...
By the way, if your tapes are a little fussy and require extra attention or a repair, our technicians will take care of that for you"
But reality according to this kim person is they dont ever edit it. So I can't even get an honest answer. What a way to ruin a present to my parents. They hype this up on the radio and I am totally disappointed.
I recommend getting local recommendations and never using Legacy Box. I don't think they even check it well.
Hi David, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I apologize that we were not able to transfer most of your items for you, but I'm glad kimberly was able to address the problem and issue a refund for the unconverted items. As Kimberly said, we perform a 1:1 transfer, as advertised on our website. The digital quality will be a direct reflection of the original media. We do not offer editing or enhancements at the time. The quote you referenced above " if your tapes are a little fussy and require extra attention or a repair, our technicians will take care of that for you" Is not in reference to editing or enhancements but we can adjust tracking within reason and also offer splicing to broken tape or film. I apologize for any confusion or verbiage that may have been interpreted as misleading. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible but your review has shown us that we can do better!
I carefully used supplied labels as I placed 10 VHS tapes in shipping box (under the supervision of my wife).
Got back 9 VHS tapes. DVD labeled 1 thru 10 minus #8. They insist only 9 VHS submitted. I asked If not 10 VHS why not contact me. They say it's not part of the process. They emailed me to tell me one VHS was poor quality why not suppose shortage of VHS? Don't recommend this company.
Hi Paul, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I know you have already been in touch with our customer service team but I wanted to personally address your concerns. I've thoroughly looked through the details of your order and I wanted to clarify the situation at hand. We have reviewed the check in process of your order and have triple confirmed that only 9 VHS tapes were sent in to us. Your order arrived in the Legacybox with large white packing peanuts and VHS tapes wrapped in clear bubble wrap. All reviews confirm that there were only 9 tapes sent in to us. Upon reviewing the barcodes used for your tapes, number 8 specifically was omitted. To provide context on why you were not emailed is because customers don't always use the full quantity of their order and simply reach out to us for a refund or a credit for the unused items. Since we did not receive or process barcode number 8, I have gone ahead and issued a refund for that unused item, which you should receive email verification of momentarily. I do apologize for any confusion along the process of your order. Please reach back out to our customer service team if there is anything else that we can help you with.
I was a fairly serious amateur home movie maker in the late 1960s and '70s, mostly family vacation stuff. 25 years ago I decided to make video copies of a few, and used a camcorder/projector rig. Videoed while projecting on a 11x14 poster board. Results were watchable, but I wanted better. About a year ago I sent 5 films to Legacy Box. I had made scans of 35mm slides wit a Minolta 35mm scanner and got excellent results. The scanner focuses and controls exposure. I expected comparable quality with movie film. Sure, the image is much smaller, but it's the same kind of film and it's a matter of getting the image in the frame, focusing, exposing, and on to the next frame. Movie projectors have been doing this for about 100 years.
So when I got back images that were over exposed and out of focus, I was furious. If I had sent in films I had never seen, made by a grandparent for instance, I might have assumed that the old technology was pretty bad and be happy with what I got. But I had my camcorder copies to compare to (see photos). Legacy Box graciously offered to do the job again and "meet my expectations". Well, the second run improved on the focus and exposure, but the images were somewhat enlarged resulting in significant cropping. About 20% of the left side of the image was cut off. (I suspect the copier was set for 8mm instead of Super 8. But I don't know anything about the equipment.) L. B. offered to do it again. The third run was pretty good, although the focus wasn't as good as the 2nd run, and by this time several film breaks (probably at old splices) had occurred and disrupted the continuity in a few places. The pictures below show various iterations of the same movie frame from my camcorder copy through the 3 efforts by Legacy Box. L. B. Stopped responding to my emails after 3 processing runs.
Another issue I have noticed in the third run (only one I liked well enough to watch completely) is frame jumping. The image will suddenly be displaced either vertically or horizontally by 1/4 to 1/3 of the frame. It doesn't happen a lot, but it's annoying.
Legacy Box may do well with their other copying services, but my experience with 8mm movies would lead me to look elsewhere if I had more to do.
I sent in two separate boxes of films to be digitalized. The first was of my kids growing up and a few of me as a kid. I was very excited to have these made. The second box was a mystery box of film from the late 50s early 60s from my grandparents house. This was a treasure of surprises. Oh how I wish there was sound back then! But still... these are memories from before I was born and when I was little that are beyond precious. Thanks for Legacy Box for such a gift.
I ordered Legacybox 3 weeks before Christmas. I didn't find out until it arrived a week later it takes 6 weeks to complete the order. The ordering website is complicated and will kick you to a different section without notice. I thought I had ordered 2 discs and a thumb drive. Turns out I ordered 1 disk and an online download. 6? weeks lateri received notice it had been shipped and I would receive it via ups within a week. I live I've grid with no postal service and ups won't deliver during the winter. Apparently Legacybox has arrangements with ups to drop packages ups can't deliver to the post office. The post office couldn't deliver so they were sending it back. If I hadn't known the local ups drive I would never known what was going on. I got home from to post office opened the box. There was 1 disk, no thumb drive. The disk envelope was mangled and the disk had fingerprints all over it. I cleaned the disk and ran it. The copy was excellent. I contacted Legacybox, they refused to send the 2nd disk or thumb drive saying I didn't pay for them. They did refund 50% of the disk cost ($3.00)! In the meantime the gifts I thought I was giving my sisters were ruined. Find another service if you can!
Hi Franklin, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I do apologize for any confusion regarding your order. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible but your feedback has shown us that we can do better! To provide some context, we do advertise on our website in a few places before placing an order that our average processing time is 6-8 weeks. The holidays are the busiest time of the year and we are also working with a limited staff to ensure the safety of our employees during the Covid-19 pandemic so we always want to set the right expectations up front! I apologize that you did not receive a thumb drive or a second copy of discs. As you stated, you placed an order for one disc set and one digital download. The team would not have known you had wanted a thumb drive since one was not ordered. This should be reflected on the order confirmation email received right after placing your order, as well as the email sent when your order arrives and passes through receiving as again we always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible every step of the way. We were unable to create a thumb drive or additional disc set since they were not ordered or paid for but the discs you received back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to make as many copies as you'd like. The digital download can also be shared with friends and family by simply emailing them the link! They can view and download the files as they wish as well, and can even be easily saved to a thumb drive! Again, we apologize for any confusion regarding your order. If you need any assistance in downloading your files, please reach back out to our customer service team and we would be happy to assist you.
I couldn't be more pleased with Legacybox! Not only did they help recover some of my fondest childhood memories, but they updated me every step of the way so I was always assured my photos and tapes were safe. If you want peace of mind when digitizing your memories, Legacybox is the best choice.
I researched on line the companies that digitize old film and photo media. Seems all the review complaints were of admin issues and others of expectations. I sent two 6 inch reels of 16 mm film for digitizing. I got a great deal on the (2) pack offer and recieved them back with the memory stick less than 4 weeks from ordering online to receiving the finished product. (the promise was 6-8 weeks) The reels were returned as sent and the digitized movies more than met expectations. I will be sending more in shortly for digitizing... Thank you for a flawless experience.
I mailed my box months ago and get an email from them about every 2 weeks stating that they are "processing" my order. What a joke! I have never seen a process so slow. Expect your order to take many, many months. I am still waiting.
Hi Tigran, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I just wanted to provide some clarification regarding your order. Our average processing time, as stated on our website before ordering is 6-8 weeks. Your order arrived to our facility on 11/10/20 and was completed and shipped out to you on 12/31/20, just shy of the 8 week mark. I do apologize that processing times are higher than normal as this holidays are the busiest time of year and we are also working with a limited staff to ensure the safety and well being of our employees. Please reach out to our customer service team if there is anything else we can help you with.
I just reviewed my film to digital downloads and they are utterly dreadful. I spent more than $150 on a 10 reel deal - and all the video is grainy and faded. Every reel looks the same. This was a heartbreaking disappointment - precious memories that I wanted to share with family. A long wait for nothing
Hi Sharon, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We strive to be as clear and upfront as possible and we wholeheartedly apologize if there was any confusion over the services that we offer. We are a 1:1 transfer company. This means that the quality of your originals will directly reflect the quality of your digital output. We do not offer editing or enhancements at this time. Even in the best kept of conditions, film does start to deteriorate naturally after about 10 years so unfortunately this may have affected the quality of your digital transfers.
I will just say DO NOT use them. They lost my box and all the memories in it. After having my box for 3 months (and me giving them the benefit of doubt due to Covid, etc.) I found out that my box with precious memories is missing. We are now in Month #6 of them trying to find the box. They did refund me but I can assure you that does not make up for the lost memories so just don't use them.
Hi LeighAnn, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We wholeheartedly apologize for the issues regarding your order. Our entire team is continuing to monitor the situation and will reach out to you directly with any updates. We ensure you that we take these matters very seriously and will continue to keep you update on any changes.
I was given a box of VHS-C tapes to "see if I could get something from them." If you don't already know, VHS-C were analog videocamera tapes that required a special adapter to watch in your VCR. Having neither the adapter, nor a functional VCR, I sent them to Legacybox.
On the plus side, the videos are mostly clear and crisp, given they haven't been seen in 25 years and the camera operator was a rank amateur. I had no clue what the tapes were about and they were mostly vacation tapes or elementary school presentations.
My only minor complaint was I had no idea where they were in progress and returning the finished DVD's.
The website was hard to navigate. The digital download of our video tapes were hard to play on anything other than one computer
Hi Dan, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback on the website. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible and we wholeheartedly apologize if we could have done better! Our customer service team is available 7 days a week via phone, email or live chat if there is ever anything we can help you with regarding placing an order or answering any questions you may have.
We have been very happy working with Legacybox and plan to do more. I love the way they kept me updated on all that was going on. I did 25 old vhs tapes and they did as good as could be expected with old tapes.
Sorry^&*())*&. After months of going back and forth through the mail, my videos are better than the disc you made, Awful.
I cant believe you would send them back without looking at them.
And if you did look at them, and sent them anyway without an apology well that said it all. They are a mess.
Sorry but it is true.
John Fergus
Hi John, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I understand your frustration and apologize that your expectations were not met. We advertise that we perform a one-to-one transfer of everything that we receive. If there is an issue with the original, those issues will translate over to the digital copies.
We cannot restore, edit or improve the quality of tapes. Due to the age and natural deterioration of tapes, sometimes quality issues may occur during the digitization process. If you are certain that your original items are in better condition than the digital version you received back, we would be happy to set up a return for those items to be reprocessed. I see that you have been in touch with our customer service team several times to set up a new order since you had originally cancelled and then sent your order in, in two boxes and our team worked to get that straightened out for you since this is not our normal process. If you would like to have your items reprocessed, please let the customer service team know so that we can take care of that for you.
Paid for express return to have before Christmas! Did not get with no refund! Supposedly notified with email but never received! Doesn't show much concern for someone who paid extra $!
Hi Cary, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Please send us a private message with your order information or reach out to our customer service team at [email protected] with the attention of a supervisor, we would love to get this straightened out for you. If you paid for rush processing (this differs from express shipping) and your order arrived to us before December 1st your order should be completed by Christmas. If this is not the case we can absolutely refund you for the cost of rush processing if there was any error on our end. Our technicians do keep you up to date every step of the way via email regarding your order. Depending on your email settings, these may be filtered into the spam or promotional folder and I do apologize if you did not receive them.
Sent in 45 yr old 8 mm home films - they did an outstanding job, now these memories will never be lost. Thanks so much!
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!

Hi Joseph, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I apologize that separating the photos onto separate discs is not a service that we offer. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible regarding the services that we offer but your review has shown us that we can do better! When you reached out regarding the separate discs your order was already well underway in processing and once it is packed for shipping it is unfortunately too late to cancel and pull the order as the work had already been completed. As advertised on our website, if you would like to be able to easily move the files and separate them into separate groups, we recommend order the thumb drive or digital download option. The discs you received back are free from any copyrights so while it is unfortunately not something that we can accommodate, you are welcome to split the files onto separate discs or bring the discs to somewhere like Staples to have this done for you.
