Stay away from Lawn starter, the lie to you about when the service will be provided, then when you do get someone to finally show up they take a picture of the lawn first, then they cut the grass, then they charge you twice because they claim was longer than six inches which according to them entitles them charge you twice. They are a horrible service, I beg anyone reading this review stay away, Lawn starter STINKS. I am reporting them to the State Attorney General Office of consumer fraud.
Site did not allowing to leave a review about a provider that did poor work and did not complete my project. Very unprofessional and I was told by Lawnstarter that it isn't their problem, they o ly support customers who pay them directly. But they do falsely advertise providers who are scam artists. If you live in Houston, Id advise never hiring Matthew Wingate to complete any landscape work for you or using Lawnstarter.
I cancelled this service on the 5th of September 2020. They still debited my account. When I contacted them they stated my cancellation was not processed in time. Really, it takes more than 2 weeks to process? Maybe they need to hire better.
They state one price and then double it. I DO NOT recommend this service. They pass the buck to the actual person doing the mowing, that person states they have nothing to do with payments... A circle jerk. I do not appreciate their way of doing business. I expect to be treated with honesty and respect. The same way I treat them.
I had the worst experience with LawnStarter. First, they quoted me a price that was about $20 cheaper than what they invoiced me at and would not correct to invoice at what I had been quoted over the phone. On top of it, the "professionals" they send are just guys with a lawn mower trying to make an extra buck. I am fully supportive of people trying to start a business, but I am not comfortable with Lawnstarter advertising lawn professionals when they are not. They make you sign up for a minimum of three services, which I did for three of my properties. I had 6 out of 9 horrible experiences. At one point, the "professional" they sent, left CROP CIRCLES in my lawn. He left and there was literally circles on my property (damage in pics). When I requested a refund, they denied me. So needless to say, I do NOT recommend anyone signing up for their services.
Lawnstarter is completely unreliable. Over the course of one summer I had 7 different "crews" come to my house. Every time they would change the crew it would be last minute and thane at least another week for the new crew to come. Finally after the last crew change which took three weeks, they charged me a long grass fee. I cancelled and now I am still going back and forth with them to get it refunded. It has been a month now.
If you love your LAWN STAY AWAY! This company is not operating with its customers best interests. This company has a platform that gather sensitive and personal information. NEXT They expose your personal home address and contact information with shady contractors who are non professional, discriminatory, And criminal acting. As a NEW customer I HAD to terminate my agreement to receive initial services, because lawn starters contractor Jeff did not want to honor a request that I'm at the residence to Meet prior to the start of services. He declined to work at the property and claimed he would remove me from schedule. However, he sent a subcontractor to my home unknowingly and destroyed my bushes, left clippings all over the place and then vanished. My neighbors called and reported to cops suspicious people taking dozens of pictures in an unmarked car riding back and forth, while another person walks around with a hedge trimmer destroying the bushes. Worst experience of my lifetime! I hope no one ever work with these shady people.
The guy and his girlfriend (crackheads) showed up and cut (late) then charged me $48 additional (high grass) afterwards because it was my first time introductory $20 deal. My grass wasn't high. He didn't weed my island and left grass everywhere. This company is a rip off. Do not use them. The cutter blew grass on my friends Mercedes Benz after he was asked to blow it off, he took his time. I was sure there was going to be a fight. It hasn't been a week and it needs cutting.--------------RIP OFF--------------------------------------------------------
Great concept but awfully unprofessional crew.
They said a crew, therefore I expected a professional crew and job. I'm a 68 year old women and I can do a better job then this. It took this guy 20 minutes. Front, one side and driveway. He stopped at the middle of driveway and grass was so even, like he couldn't see. This was the second cut, They want you to have 3 cuts before you terminate. I will terminate.
I am disabled. I had Lawn Starter mow my lawn on a bi-weekly basis. I am on a very limited income and i can only afford $100 a month for mowing. Their price for mowing every two weeks was $49 and some change... perfect. I have four dogs. All small, all in house dogs. They get let out several times a day into the front yard. We have a chain link fence in front, a wooden privacy fence in back, and two chain link gates between the two types and an access gate in the front for the front only. The first time they mowed was September 2. The mowing was going to be the previous week but i had the yard mowed the Friday before that so I sent them a couple of emails about rescheduling. I got no response... As the mow date got closer, I went to their website and they had a way to message them on the site. Using this method, I, again, asked them to reschedule. The day before it was due, I got a response from someone I assumed was a rep from the company and they advised the schedule was changed. He/She also advised they did not pay attention to email and the website message board was the only was to contact them. They did come on the appointed day. They were very quick. The yard looked like it had not been touched. It had been mowed but there was no edging/weed eating along the fence line and leaves were piled up along the fence and scattered across the yard.
I understand they do not bag but at least the leaves should have been moved away from the fence if it had been trimmed. I was not expecting another cutting until sometime around the 17th. I was totally surprised when they arrived and mowed on the 10th. This time the results were the same with an additional issue... they left all the gates open. Our dogs were let out and they scattered like roaches. With a lot of time invested in driving around, screaming, some assistance from our blessed neighbors and a lot of luck, we were able to repatriate the animals. A couple of them cost quite a bit of money and emotionally, they are all invaluable. Again, using the website email, I messaged the rep and he replied with: "Can you call up lawn starter? See if they can make sure to take care of your account. It was on our job list for service today.", so apparently Adam is a contractor with LS. LS does not list a phone number on the site that I could find. Poor, slow communication, Poor lawn appearance, No attention to details to finish the job, Gate left open because of lack of supervision and laziness. LS is just a referral company. Because they do not have direct control over the staff that actually does the work, they should not be used. I will not use ANY company like that. I will contact mowing companies directly for services in the future.
Service was terrible, the gentleman did not finish the job, kept telling me he will come back the next day, after the weekend I called the company because the subject indeed never came to finish the job and by then the company informed me that 5 days has passed by and they were not responsible for any refund or even a performance review on this subject after 5 days. Awful service- wasted my money. Do not recommend it.
We were existing customers and tried to change our credit card number due to a stolen card. First they cancelled our weekly service because they couldn't charge the card; DUH it was changed. When i emailed them (because they make it impossible to speak to a live person) to say yes i changed the card number and they were finally able to find the new one, they were unable to reschedule me for service for a month. Then they wanted to charge me for a long grass fee. WHAT?!?! Because of their mistake? I don't think so. The rescheduled day finally arrives and the crew cancels the mow the moment they arrive because we have 2 large boulders sitting in the yard near our mailbox (we had some emergency plumbing work done) both weigh over 1 ton each so they are not going anywhere anytime soon... instead of just mowing around them and trimming around them which would take an extra 3-5 minutes they just cancelled. I contacted customer service thru the app, no response. Email, no response. Phoned and got nowhere. Called in as a new customer with same conditions, rocks and all, and they agreed to mow my lawn same day... for less than what I was already paying weekly. Needless to say, I have found a new service and they will also be doing my rock removal and new sod this fall. Thanks, but no thanks.
The yard work was excellent when they came though... for what that's worth.
They came put for the first job and then never showed up for the next. Customer service kept.me on hold for 20 min to "figure out why" and then hung up. Tried calling back and tbey kept hanging up. Had to call from my husband's phone and they answered. Had them finally cancel the whole contract. I wasn't giving them 2 more times.
Quick response to my inquiry regarding services offered. Signed up and given the name of my crew and a date to start my lawn service. Still waiting for my lawn service to begin, after several re-schedules on their part, I decided to cancel my service and close my account with Lawnstater. Not a way to run a business.
I'd give them a -5 if it were possible. After receiving un-asked for texts I thought I had signed up with their Rep last Tuesday for a mowing tomorrow, Friday. I called today to confirm tomorrow and they have NO record of my address, name, telephone #, or email address!
The person I spoke to today has a shoe size number larger than her IQ, and apparently so does the person who supposedly signed me up on Tuesday.
Oh yes, and a manager was too busy to speak with me today... probably overwhelmed with complaints!

I was signed up for bi-weekly mowings and it has now been a month and a half since my last mowing. I've been through multiple crews and no one has showed up, citing multiple reasons, including "inclement weather" on sunny days.
I've complained to LawnStarter several times and received assurances that my lawn would be made a priority and yet nothing has changed. My neighbors are complaining. Small animals and birds are nesting in my yard, which looks like a field out in the country.
Even after threatening to leave the service, I was promised a mowing the next business day and was never contacted again. I don't like leaving bad reviews, and I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt, but after a certain point, it has become clear that they just don't care whether the job I'm hiring them to do gets done.
Unacceptable.
Terrible service, the landscaper cut my air conditioner wires with the weedeater and it cost me 180 to repair and they wouldn't even reimburse me. Stay away.
I thought it's a good company to work with. They said they'll charge me $19 for the first cut. They also told me that if the grass is not more than 6" high then they won't charge me extra. They come after 4 days from the day I called. My grass was barely 3" high as I mowed the lawn 5 days ago. They did not mention anything when doing my lawn. 3 days later I see a bill on my credit card statement a bill of $31.20. I called the lawn starter company and inquired about the bill. The woman 'Katie' tells me that they charged me $31.20 because my grass was 6" tall. I asked how did she figured that out? She tells me that the guys that cut my grass took pictures of the grass. I asked her to send me the pictures. 3 days pass no pictures and they still took that $19 +$31.20 = $50.20 from my account. A $19 service ended up being $50 service. They are trying to rip you off big time. BIG SCAM! I want to ALERT you all before thinking of getting their service. Btw, they also damaged a lot of our plants and did an average job. You have been warned!
I encountered Garrett Family Lawn and Landscape through LawnStarter they damaged my flower beds on the first visit. Joe owner sent co-owner Dale out to view the damage. Dale said my yard was not how he wanted his company represented apologized and said they had hired a new crew. Grass and weeds a mess. In the flower beds my hostas plants were weeded to the root. Dale said he would redo my flower beds and replace my 9 hostas plants. On the day that Garrett Family Lawn and Landscape was to return to service my yard as well as take care of my flower bed damage.
I got a message that they were unable to return to my home for lawn care and a new company would take over.
YOU CAN NOT DAMAGE Customers PROPERTY (Mine) and JUST WALK AWAY.
GFLL Joe and Dale have to be held accountable.
I'm highly upset and disappointed with this company. I DO NOT recommend GFLL or LawnStarter to anyone. LawnStarter should be ashamed for the no empathy customer service l received from Jessica in the property damage claims department.
Horrible horrible horrible. When I used lawn starter they promised service that they are incompetent to fulfill. Lawn starter repeatedly missed spots in my yard which resulted in violations with HOA and fines, and with repeatedly promised to fix the damaged yard then two weeks later decided that they don't have enough people to provide the service and that they will not be coming to fix the yard issue that they have caused. I would never recommend them to anyone

Answer: LawnStarter.com does not employ lawn guys. They use contractors that might be in the area and willing to do the work. Neither are responsible for property damages like sprinklers, shattered windows, etc.
