Booked an appt for between 5/13-5/14 for lawn mowing service. Called as late as 4:00 p.m. on 5/14 and was assured the crew would be there by 7:00 p.m. NO SHOW, NO PHONE CALL, NO RETURN CALLS until this morning. I left 4 messages at Customer Service and they finally called this morningn to tell me they cancelled my account because they don't have service providers here in a very very busy neighborhood in Chicago. Completely unprofessional.
The lawn crew did a no call no show on the scheduled date. It was rescheduled for 2 days later and another no call no show. It has been over 7 days now with no sign of life from LawnStarter.
I have been trying to contact customer service for over a week now with no luck. Tried through the app, nothing. Tried calling, no call back, put on hold for over an hour with no answer.
Would give 0 stars if I could.
Very poor service. Signed up for every two week mowing, then was told I had to do every week or pay double. Mowed front yard once, said would come back for back yard, never returned, charged for full job. Subsequent mowing was not done as they were "trying to find a new crew" for my property. Then when I cancelled, was told would have to pay for 2 more "scheduled" mowings (which they didn't have a crew to do). Utter crap, not paying another dime.
Sent individuals with improper equipment to handle job who appeared to be high on drugs. They wanted to mow my yard in the dark showing up three hours after they messaged they were on the way. Customer service has failed to respond about getting a real company sent out. I would advise steering clear of them as they do not check out who they are sending to do the work.
My experience leads me to believe that the whole thing is a scam. Probably Web-Bots, and scripts designed to make you think they are helping you. They might only be collecting your information. I certainly did not get anywhere with them despite them texting me several times and wanting me to click on links that did not work, then telling me the main office would call in 24 hours. That was 2 days ago. Just be careful. Negative reviews are often someone mad about something. Mad enough to take their time and review it. A lot (or to many,) of gushing reviews are often some company buying those reviews. Think about the ratio of people mad enough to post a negative experience vs how may times someone will write about a company do a good job. If the numbers don't match, they are probably not real but bought positive review.
I started with Lawn Starter around April 5th in one month they have missed 4 appointments and no resolution was ever made. Read below the horrible experience in Virginia we had.
As a supervisor Katrina only offered after all the issues which is listed below as well as in my text, file and email documents a slap in the face $25 dollar credit which doesn't even cover the plants that had been chopped up by Carlos team who did my mowing.

This company does not care at all for there costumers and it is evident. It took from last Friday to this Thursday May 6th to received a phone call back from a supervisor after waiting a month for mulch, never came never called to tell me the plan never rescheduled until I called both times someone was scheduled. Again the same issue with fertilizer and weeding. Anytime you need to get in-touch with someone it takes up to 1 hour and still they don't answer... when you leave your number no one ever calls back. After finally 6 days of waiting the "Supervisor" who was a young girl said she could offered to put our name back out on the list for some other "real company" to pick up and offered $25 credit but only after I repeatedly asked her what she will do to ensure that I stay with a company after the hell I went through and after a month of my yard still looking disgusting. No guarantees we're made (because they are the third man) because what this company does is that they put your name out there and an individual contractor Has to be able to pick you up if that company doesn't fulfill the job all they do is put you back on a list and never call to let you know why (even though it is part of there policy) and so it's just never ending cycle. Even if you wait two weeks and they don't pick you up then you're back to square one or they pick you up and don't come (Oh well you go back on a list)your salon is never serviced it is a ridiculous practice that does not work... even after all my frustration it was clear that this "supervisor" had no idea nor care to fix the situation. Horrible just horrible Do better! I will be sharing this daily so that I can make sure no one ever goes through this again!

I paused my account back in the fall of 2020. I get a alert in May of 2021 that my bank account is being charged a fee for a lawn cut for April of 2021. I couldn't get through for hours about this issue. I was only able to get through for choosing the prompt new services. I was told that being I didn't respond to a email about my account being froze it gave them the right to unfreeze my account with out my permission and charge me for a lawn I don't even own any more. So what's the point of offering a pause service if it can be on paused when they feel and charged at your expense. They told me they can't credit me back my money cause the grass was already cut mind you with out my permission.
They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, so I thought I'd share these with anyone who was considering getting work done. Half my hill isn't mowed, the grass is all different heights, there was no edging done, the grass was clumped all over the driveway, sidewalk and back deck. All services I'm locked in for 3 mows minimum, after my 3rd mow I will be canceling. This is just a few of the photos.
I tried to contact the crew and customer service for weeks. I never received a response and there's no option to contact someone on the phone. Two days ago I was forced to hire another company due to a code enforcement fine. Today I received a message asking for feedback claiming that they just finished my yard. I realized that they are trying to charge for the job that the other company completed. I sent another message to the crew letting them know that no one from their company came out to cut my grass so I don't want to be charged and I canceled my services. I finally received a response stating that they will send someone out to cut my grass.
I was booked on the April 12th for lawn mowing, they didn't show up, then re booked for April 25th, again didn't show up, and by now my grass is very tall and costing me three times more to cut. I called and email them so many times, and nobody bothered to call back or at least apologize. I filed a complained with the consumer protection agency in Maryland with all the communications, and payment made. This company shouldn't be in business. They lie, take money, and then you have to run after them.
Ok so story time, its a long one so grab a seat.
I inquired about lawn service on 4/14 and was suppose to have my first cut on 4/19 and when the crew came out, because of a issue with the app and somehow I had two profiles the lawn was not cut on that day. I spoke with someone on 4/20 after several calls to the customer service department I finally called the sales department because no one ever answers the customer service line EVER nor do they call you back EVER when you leave your number, but moving on...
I was rescheduled for 4/22-4/23 but the crew that was assigned to me had vehicle troubles and asked to reschedule for 6 days out and I agreed but when I went to the app I saw that I was reassigned to another crew "Marque brown lawn barbers" or whatever. I sent them a message and asked if they knew why i was reassigned and he said that he didn't but would likely be able to cut my grass sooner depending on how high it was. I stated that I was at work and would send a picture when I got home. It was dark when I got home so i sent the picture today (sunday) and stated that the previous person quoted me a clean up fee ( I believe was like $68 or $69, but i didn't tell him what was quoted to me) and that i wanted to know what he charged and that he was more than welcome to drive past (if he had time) before friday so that when friday came he could just cut it.
After a couple of hours i got a message to approve a quote so when i go to the app its $396.34. I live in a duplex and only the back yard his high and really I could just hit the front with a weed whacker or something but $400 for a side strip and not even half of a half of a back yard. What kind of company are you all running?
And WHY please tell me WHY is there NEVER ANYONE answering the customer service lines and they NEVER call you back. I am STILL waiting for a call back from customer service from Monday the 19th. The only time I can ever get a person on the phone is when I call sales and they can't help me but if I can't get this issue resolved in the next couple of days i will have to take my business elsewhere.
I was charged 27.59 on April 3 for yard work. On April 5, I texted and said I am not going to pay in advance for tshi not done. I get a message that they'll get back with me. Whatever. I send a message to them through the app that the yard was not done on April 6 but I was charged and presto! My yard gets done that day!
My bush trim is April 28 and I was charged $56.00 on April 10.
My yard trim is April 19 and I was charged $27.59 on April 10. I've got a screen shot of my app to prove it. I've got security cameras to prove when they come out. I have emailed and left my phone number for them to call me back. I've been waiting over a week for the next customer service representative to call me back. Fast chance in hell. Their boilermaker ‘policy' says they don't charge in advance. However, I'm on a first name basis with my credit card so I file disputes and get the money back but why should I have to do that?

PLEASE READ: LawnStarter was the worst experience I've had with a company. Their app is fantastic! It was actually the reason why I decided to use their service. It's easy to navigate and very well done. My good experience ended there. The crew assigned to me canceled my service twice. On the second time I received the message saying they were on the way and 10 minutes later a got a second message saying that the crew was no longer going to service my property. I tried reaching out to LawnStarter through their app, phone, and even through thumbtack. No response. Please don't let them fool you with their nice app. RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! I've never been seen such poor customer service.
Do not use this company! How do you immediately cancel this service? We can't reach anyone. We tried to cancel online after property damage left before, our metal fence is broken. Also no one is showing up for the 2nd job. Online it says we HAVE TO get two more cuts before they can stop. We want it canceled now. Big mistake hiring these people. End up paying money to have your property destroyed.
I am very disappointed in the service I received. They did not finish the job, blew wet grass all over my white patio furniture, damaged personal property, and they refused to take accountability. I will never use Lawnstarter again. You can't even reach anyone via phone. I got an email from someone, but she tried to send me on a wild goose hunt to dispute the incident, after already sending in a claim. I never heard back after that email.
This is the second time. Same thing last year. They do not show up. They do not return the money.
I wanted to give them a second chance. Looks like I ended being shot in the foot, twice. I stayed home for 4 hours for them to show up. They did not. I called everyday and left messages. Eventually, after 58 minutes and 20 seconds they pick up and they say we are not returning your money. Go ahead and dispute.
So, they stand me for 4 hours. They never show. Takes them about an hour to respond. They say try to get your money.
What do you all suggest I do to make more people aware of this?

I signed up for their service and paid, told my previous lawn care company I was switching. 2 days later LawnStarter emails me saying sorry we can't service your lawn now.
Such a joke. Now I have to call my previous service and ask to be added back. Thanks lawnstarter. STAY AWAY FROM LAWNSTARTER
LawnStarter is a great company to partner with and do business with. Very helpful at helping you start and grown your own business.
Worked for this app first day rude customer because of the person before me, handle it the best way I could did my job got out of there. Second gig someone had already cut the yard? Third gig got called a 1950's slur handle it again, in to the next gig success well I thought NEVER GOT PAYED!?! And to top it off lawn starter deleted my account...
Answer: This company is a scam, they get your credit card and charge for "extra services you did not request.
