There was no upfront explanation that ID.me was not part of the IRS, or US government. At one point in the process I was concerned that I had unwittingly become a victim of a scam to steal my identity. The MFA was complicated, confusing and did not work properly for me.

So I figured it was worth trying, and I was surprised that the site really did work, and I received a good discount that was well worth the time that it took to complete the application process. I estimate it took between 10-15 minutes, and for the discount I received it was definitely worth that time. I make less than the discount amount for an hour's worth of work with my job. So taking 10-15 minutes of my time to get $56+ off of my total was definitely worth it for my tight budget. I suggest submitting this application on a real computer not a mobile device because it requires a good amount of data to process through the website. I do not think it would have worked on my phone, and it would have timed out.

My drivers license is expired and has been for a long time because I can't drive due to the medication I take for my disability. I went to renew it because of ID.me and I have to have a birth certificate. I don't have a birth certificate. So I sent ID.me my: social security card, tax returns, military ID, utility bill, cell phone records, Wi-Fi account. Still ID.me wont confirm my identity. ID.me is just a big bully that keeps me locked out of my accounts. We need to file a class action lawsuit against them. It would be bigger than the 3M case.
