It took me over ten goes to make the self service section get to the pictures of your ID. After I decided to change it to video confirmation, that took several tries also to simply take pics again. Eventually, after a very long time, I got the invitation to start the video call for verification of my identity…they couldn't see me because their equipment wasn't working. After, several different methods of trying to get the call to work he could eventually see me but I could barely hear anything he was saying. Truthfully, I had to guess most of what he was saying by looking at his mouth. This is a serious deficiency in service given that people may have no choice but to use them. They are abusing and exploiting this need of verification of identity. It's an absolute disgrace

I HAD to re-verify due to losing my phone and using a different number. Everyone sends 2nd verifications by text. It really couldn't have been easier. When I first verified in 2017, it was computer only, this time it's more personal and in depth, the way it should be.

Using a picture of an ID and facial recognition - that's the way to go! It didn't take long (especially when compared to calling!) Highly recommend it.
I first tried to log in using the alternative to ID.me. The alternative login method is Login.gov.
In my situation, login.gov had to send an authentication code by snail mail - a 3 or 4 week process to reach me. Knowing myself, that basically gave me a 50/50 chance of completely forgetting to do this, or going through the whole process again, if using login.gov.
When I hit that snag, I tried ID.me. Through ID.me I was on my Social Security account in a few minutes.
