This is the most painful authentication process I have ever been through.
First, I wasted 2.5 hours trying to go through the automated authentication process. I tried different documents, different phone numbers... nothing worked. All I got was the extremely unhelpful error message "We could not authenticate you."
Then I had to way a day for somebody to review my documents.
Then I had to wait 1+ hours online for an agent to become available.
When I was finally able to start a video call, of course there were technical issues and the agent had to call me on the phone.
What a waste of time. I can't believe the government is making it so hard for somebody who wants to pay them money.
Avoid this service like the plague. Save yourself the hassle -- call the IRS (or whatever agency you need to interact with) directly, and avoid having to deal with this god-awful, time-wasting abomination of a service.

I like this option much better! My husband and I now have our own ID.me accounts and can see our joint information very easily.
