My experience was beneficial and in a way not beneficial. Beneficial for the knowledge on having documents for my case more available on reach distance. Not beneficial because I was not able to get my verification correct until now because I am in person at a DOL office
I didn't even know this site existed until I got a letter in the mail from the IRS in November of 2024 stating that my information was used to set up an account with ID.me. It said if it was not me to call a number. I called said number and was told that I had to contact support through ID.me. I emailed support and they said they were going to review this and I didn't hear anything else from them. About a week later my employer called me saying that someone is trying to file unemployment under my name and wanted confirmation that I was no longer employed with them and that it was me. Of course I still work for the same employer, I have been working there for 9 years and no, it is not me trying to file. I immediately got with my bank and put my account on fraud alert and my credit on fraud alert. Fast forward to January 2025 when it's time to do my tax return. I cannot file with an IP Pin so to my accounts being on fraud alert. Where do I have to get this IP Pin from? Id.me. I cannot verify my identity with ID.me because, well, someone else has already used my identity to have an id.me account. I contacted support again since I never heard anything from them. Went back and forth with them about this unknown fraudulent account and I finally received an email today 2/7/25 saying my identity has been verified and I can now login. But guess what, I still cannot and NO ONE will confirm if the fraudulent account has been closed. I am freaking out and no one will help me

I tried Chime with April and after like 4 failed attempts to submit my taxes, I went to Direct Taxes, but this requires to use ID.me
They just need some document photos, but if they cannot identify you with a self-service portal/site you have to use their agents in a short video call (15 minutes of video call + 30 minutes of waiting)
The agent was a nice employee, she explained everything including if the documents I selected to present to her were in the right place.
Then you need to go and login again to ID.me and approve to give them all your data (which you already has submitted). You click in a button to approve and now you can go and do whatever service you wanted to use but you could not because the government needed your identify verified.
