Went on line to check medicare payment and to ensure my passwords were up-to-date. Next thing I know I'm uploading my drivers license and my photo. Its just like uploading a check to my bank or when I created an IRS account for paying taxes. This process needs to be standardized across all areas requiring verification of who you are. Verify drivers license with state DMV. If I used my military retiree ID care, verify it with DoD or my passport verify it with DOS. This will safeguard all my identifiable information from bad people. However, I don't think all these agencies are on a single platform enabling easily verifiable personnel date. Why not is my question.

I was using ID. Me to access the IRS Direct File service and appreciated how few steps there were to create the account. There was a bit of a wait if you don't have a smartphone (like me), but the system did its job.
I needed to get into IRS web site so I had to identify myself and I did not have the same phone number from when I set up the account. Was happy to get thru and update all and still get on IRS website with no problem. Very pleased to have gone thru I.D. me thank you

If you don't have "Zoom" downloaded, you'll need to do that. ID. Me doesn't tell you that ahead of time, so after and hour of waiting, you get an impatient agent, who condescendingly tells you to "Ask and friend or neighbor to help you with your technology" and then hangs up. You have to download, and learn how to navigate Zoom before you call back. If you've never used it, there's a learning curve, which you have to battle the agent for more time whilst figuring it out, otherwise, another hang up and more time wasted...
