First, their tech support chat is absolutely worthless and their answer is "there is nothing we can do". I tried a number of things and finally hit upon a solution to its refusal to find the photograph on my Drivers License or Passport. Just keep uploading the file over and over. After a few tries it was able to recognize it and verified me. Since it is the same jpg every time, there is obviously a bug in their software. Why, you might ask, would I be foolish enough to give them images of my photo ID. Because the IRS requires it for access my tax information and I am having tax problems, so I have no choice. This is a horrible mechanism to prove identity as, now that I have uploaded the images, once hackers get it, they can use it to impersonate me. A photo ID is worthless on the Internet because they cannot see me or it, so it really is just proving I have access to the jpg photo, not that I am who I say I am.

Frightening
December 27, 2021

Absolute worst experience i've ever had with a website. Almost had a heart attack when they kept sending me a broken link to help me verify myself, thought I could lose my income. There's no customer service helpline on the site. Only way you can get assistance is to track down and contact the corporate officers and beg them for help. Really frightening, a lot of older people need to go through id me to get their social security and they don't know a lot about computers. I fear this service is hurting a lot of people and making it difficult on purpose so that less public assistance is handed out.

Garbage

0/10 user experience, horribly designed app and website. This is not a mature software, and is not something our government should be using/relying on.

Please give up, and let this unfortunate excuse for a business crumble. Nobody will miss you.

Edit: They responded to this review, yes - and I followed up with them, but they didn't actually offer anything different from their standard process.

I also have issues with ID.me. The delay of employment benefits. 500 negative reviews all based on delay of benefits. ID.me needs to be held accountable. I will be in contact with A. C. L. U. & Governor. Class action suit. Disgrace to the working class. Discrimination ID.me accountable for delaying benefits. Also *******@id.me does not work as per the five star review suggested. Let's go Brandon. Our government at it's finest.

As a veteran needing to get into my account I have spent the last 3months trying to contact someone for help with NO help at all. They are a scam! Do not use them they do not have customer service number only email and they just say we will contact u but don't! Horrible when they hold they key to ur lively hood in their hands and have all ur info. If I don't get a responding phone call soon I will be talking to the press No one needs to use them for any reason at all!

I was checking my information through the IRS.gov website and had to login with my credentials through ID.me and everything went smoothly after having them scan my face via webcam and answering personal information. Soon after that, my account gets suspended and I try to get assistance through their customer support. Turns out my old phone number on file that I previously changed is still being used an option for verifying my identity for some reason. Some stranger is literally answering security requests for me lol. And the funny thing is, it's the only option. I don't commit old numbers that I only used for a short period of time to memory after I acquire a new number, but it seems some jerk analyst that I was speaking to via email likes playing games to extent that no matter how many times I mention that I don't know my old phone number he still thinks he is going to get an answer eventually by asking me repeatedly. How the hell is the government affiliated with such a dumb company? H&R block has a feature where it asks questions about where I previously lived or what car make and model I have. Yet, this useless company only resorts to old numbers for verification.

A match made in hell

Had to use id.me for the IRS. Of course the government would foist the verification process onto such a nightmare pain in the $#*! convoluted as hell service. Also needlessly invasive and I can't do anything to scrub all of my info from their database even in closing my account :)

Terrible service

Everything about ID.me is horrible. Text SMS not working, very frustrating. They need a lot of secure information in a very specific format that is frustrating to supply, and then when the digital service inevitably doesn't work, you are forced to join a video call to verify your identity. All required to verify your unemployment information. 0/10

Worthless

If you lose access to your IDme account due to information updating and not being able to pass the two step verification, you're hosed. I have been emailing the most useless member support representative for days now. They keep asking for the same information and doing nothing. It is so frustrating that this is the only way to verify yourself to get into certain important government websites. It is easier for a hacker to get into my own account than for me to. I would call and speak to a human except you cant!

I have been trying to setup an ID.me account. It allows me to enter an email address, a phone number and create a password. I did that, so now I have an account.

But wait, there is no way for me to enter my name?

Huh?

There is also no way to upload my identity documents such as my California Real ID Driver's License or my Federal Passport Card.

In order to get my vaccine certificate into my phone the State of California asks me to setup an ID.me account.

ID.me is complete garbage. There is simply no way to add my name or address to the account.

It allows you to upload Alumni info or Nurse info … but there is no way to put your freaking name on the account.

ID.ME is a colossal mess
December 14, 2021

I went to verify for IRS access with ID.ME even though I already had an IRS account. I presented my DL which is really hard to read for all the new security features added at TSA insistence. The system scanned it but the address was completely hosed. Street # wrong, City wrong, no State and ZIP wrong. I tried to correct the errors but the system would not allow me to do that. After going through several hours of uploading documents and photos I finally gave up and set a help request. Once I got a response to that request I was given a link to a live video chat where I could present my documents to a real person, not some lame piece of software. My initial try said there was an estimated 59 minute wait so I was given the option to try another time and I took it. The next day I again accessed the site and the wait was estimated at 15 minutes but I actually got on in less than 5 minutes. A very nice young lady asked me some questions, asked to see my documents, took a picture and I was done. The whole process was less than 5 minutes after I had spent about 3 hrs of frustration and despair. My hourly rate is $125 so I want to bill ID.ME and/or the IRS for my lost time messing with this colossal mess of an app.

I can't use the service. I can't reach anyone to help. You are forced to leave a form that doesn't give any option for the real issue. The assumption is that you are the problem., This program has cost me money. I am considering suing this company for loss of business.
